The food industry has long recognized the consumer demand for clean, healthy snack options. However, many store-bought snacks, while appearing healthy on the surface, contain hidden sugars, additives, and preservatives. Solely recognizes these needs and is up to the challenge. They lead the clean snacking movement by offering simple, transparent, and delicious snacks made with whole, organic fruits. Their commitment to using only a few natural ingredients sets them apart from other brands that rely on artificial ingredients. In this episode, Jen talks with Simón Sacal, Founder and CEO at Solely. With more than 20 years of experience in the food industry, Simón is a pioneer in creating healthy snack options. He started Solely by inventing a technology to make fat-free potato chips and has since expanded the brand to include fruit jerky, gummies, dried fruit, and pasta. Simón's mission is to provide consumers with clean, nutritious, and guilt-free snacks made from ingredients that humans have used for thousands of years. Simón talks with Jen about how Soley uses real ingredients, like organic fruit, to create their fruit jerky, gummies, dried fruit, and pasta. Simón also shares how he sources organic fruits and the challenges in developing these products. He highlights the significance of organic farming in ensuring that the fruits used in their products are free from harmful chemicals. Key Takeaways [01:30] - An overview of Simon's background and how Solely got started. [02:59] - The fat-free movement. [05:04] - The challenges of creating clean and simple snacks. [07:21] - The challenges companies face in creating clean snacks. [09:18] - Solely's source for organic fruit. [11:15] - Solely's fruit jerky products and their taste profile. [14:57] - How Solely's fruit gummies are produced. [16:02] - Harmful ingredients in popular fruit snack brands. [20:13] - How Solely produces its pasta options: spaghetti squash and green banana. [23:34] - The best way to get Solely products. Quotes [04:08] - "At Solely, we go far beyond better for you. We do good for you. So, we only have food that humans have been eating for thousands of years and that we know nourishes and is good for you." ~ Simón Sacal [09:34] - "Being close to the farmers is a huge part of the business in many ways. It makes it sustainable. It makes it human. It makes it work. It's the only way you can really control the fruit and make it long-term sustainable." ~ Simón Sacal [10:19] - "Sometimes, you think you're eating clean because the ingredients look clean. But if you have a lot of pesticides on the product, it could be even worse than having something that is not perceived as clean. So, we make a huge effort to go organic." ~ Simón Sacal Links  Simón Sacal on LinkedIn Solely Fruit Snacks Solely on Amazon Jimbo's Naturally Costco Kroger Albertsons Target Connect with our host Jen on Instagram Jen on Facebook Wake Up and Read the Labels! It's nearly been 2 months since the last episode, the long breaks usually come with a life change or a lack of motivation. I am very proud to say that it was not the latter. January & February were one of the most busy I've ever been professionally. Being able to speak at my alma mater was truly a pleasure, continuing to executive produce the #1 rated PM drive show, and fly my mom into the city was just the beginning of all the things I've been working towards. On February 25th of this year, I launched my apparel line and brand "Faith & Fruit Snacks." And it's been by far been the most rewarding thing I've put nearly all of my free time into. In this episode, I cover: Where the idea came from Issues that came along with it just being an idea Becoming an entrepreneur How I came to the launch date of Feb. 25th What's coming next within the brand including the next shirt dropping in March The brand can be found on Twitter & Instagram. Have you ever noticed that almost every single packaged food item sold at the grocery store contains some form of vegetable oil? I recently walked through the grocery store aisles flipping over packaged foods simply to read their ingredient labels because I was curious, how many products contained vegetable oils? To be honest, I guess I wasn't really shocked when I realized that almost every item I picked up contained some form of plant-based oil such as sunflower oil, canola oil, grapeseed oil,  peanut oil, safflower oil, soybean oil, or sesame oil. Even the “healthy” organic foods contained vegetable oil. Pizza? Vegetable oil. Trail mix? Vegetable oil. Ice Cream? Vegetable oil. Fruit Snacks? Pretzels? Protein bars? Vegetable oils! Now, I am not saying that all vegetable oils, which are high in omega-6 fatty acids, are bad. Nor am I saying that we should never eat them again. In fact, our bodies need omega-6s fatty acids as they're essential fatty acids. Meaning, our bodies can't produce them so we need to get them from an external source. So, what's the problem?  The problem is that we are consuming too many omega-6 fatty acids and not enough of their counterpart, omega-3 fatty acids. Which in the long run can become problematic to our health for a variety of reasons. But, as consumers, this is where things tend to get a bit confusing! I mean, aren't vegetable oils healthy? And, what's the difference between omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids? And, is there a balanced omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acid ratio we should strive to achieve? Luckily for us, here to help simplify and unpack all of these questions (and more!) is the one and only Ayla Barmmer, MS, RDN, LDN. Ayla is a registered dietitian nutritionist, functional medicine practitioner and the founder, and CEO, of FullWell, a fertility wellness and education brand. Her entire career focus has been to advance the health and empowerment of practitioners, patients and families through nutritional science, functional medicine and evidence-based holistic solutions. In today's episode Ayla shares why women should consume more omega-3 fatty acids, especially women who are struggling with period pain, have a hormonal imbalance, or pregnant or breastfeeding, the differences between omega-6's and omega-3s, how to easily add more omega-3 rich foods to your diet, and why she developed FullWell's Fish Oil supplement. We also go off on a tangent and talk about her passion for herbal medicine and the differences between nervines and adaptogens. I absolutely loved chatting with Ayla and know this is a conversation that will inspire and encourage you along your own personal health journey! Today on One Clap Speech Love, Whitney Brooks dropped in for a really fun and enlightening discussion.  The three-year Cheyenne Central Senior and 2022 Wyoming State Champion Original Orator is the president of the talented Central squad that captured the 4A Wyoming State Championship trophy this season.  In a previously aired Speech Spotlight episode, Whitney shared her conspiratorial oratory: “Down the Rabbit Hole.”In our conversation, Whitney discussed her Speech and Debate story - how she got involved in this world and what makes her embrace a leadership role in her Speech community.  She talked about what she loves about Original Oratory, gave some great advice for others pursuing oratory success, and also specifically discussed the inception, the development, and the speaking moves in her “Down the Rabbit Hole” speech.  We then got into the ways that students can take leadership roles on their teams and in the Speech and Debate community.  Whitney revealed her terrible secret: she is a self-acclaimed band nerd!  Additionally, we extolled the tenants of fruit snacks and Diet Coke as speech tourney snacks.Don't miss Whitney's Speech Spotlight Episode:Down the Rabbit Holehttps://www.oneclapspeechanddebate.com/post/original-oratory-speech-spotlight-down-the-rabbit-hole-by-whitney-brooks If you have any ideas or requests for topics to explore on the One Clap Podcast, shoot Lyle an email at lylewiley@gmail.com or check out our blog and social media here:One Clap Website: www.oneclapspeechanddebate.comFacebook: @oneclappodcastInstagram: @one_clap_podcastGet your cool One Clap Speech and Debate merchandise here:https://www.bonfire.com/store/one-clap-speech-and-debate/The One Clap March Newsletter: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1enR8akzWQXvHylx_vJeBaDZFhqte9H11M7L1Rrt-9vI/edit?usp=sharingSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/oneclapspeechanddebate)

A major goal of the trip, which took Dave to all 48 contiguous states, was to raise money to support research into Cholangiocarcinoma and to spread awareness and bring hope to patients, caregivers, and others along the way. At more than $50,000, exceeded the goal of $45,000 – and more donations are still being accepted. The road trip, in a car with a specially designed wrap promoting cholangiocarcinoma awareness, included stops at hospitals and healthcare institutions that specialize in research and treatment of the disease, plus the get-togethers with patients, caregivers and healthcare providers who were important in Sarah's life. In today's episode, Dave reports on more of these meetings, some that proved to be especially meaningful to him. One such meetup was with Tom Lietzke, a 14-year survivor of Cholangiocarcinoma, and who prepared the image used for this episode.Cholangiocarcinoma starts in the bile duct and is an incredibly deadly cancer, which afflicts about 8,000 people in the United States each year. Most of its victims are 65 or older, but Sarah was only 31 when she was diagnosed. She passed away at age 35.The trip was supported by the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, which made the specially designed Honda SUV available for the journey. Sponsors were Incyte, Ken Garff Honda, QED Therapeutics, Servier, Taiho Oncology, Welch's Fruit Snacks and Zymeworks.
