Patrick takes queries from callers about specific meditative practices and their compatibility with Catholic teaching, from a Hawaiian meditative practice and the use of the word "chakra" in essential oils to using meditative tapes that were popular in the 80's. Patrick also offers guidance on dealing with personal and family matters, such as how to approach a son's behavior with his fiancée and whether it's appropriate to have a plot of land blessed for interring family members' remains. Mary Ann – Patrick, you have brought more clarity and I'm closer to God because of you. Thank you! Jessie - Ho'oponopono is a Hawaiian practice of forgiveness, is it okay for us to practice that? Jane - I am related to a Catholic woman whose ashes will be scattered on her property when she dies. If I am able to get the ashes, can I have a priest bless my land and keep the ashes here? Patrick responds to a listener who is disappointed in the show for missing an opportunity when talking to a young man who called in earlier today Mike - There is an ancient form of meditation by Roy Masters. Is that okay for me to do? Danna - My mom was thinking about getting buried in a Mormon cemetery. Is that okay? (25:47) Chris - How do you deal with a sister who lives in the past and is there a good bible verse about this? Judith – Should I use essential oils that use terms like “chakra”? Glenda - My daughter's father died and requested he be scattered in the black hills. What should we do? Maria - Instead of complaining today, people should be thankful that we have Relevant Radio and not to judge others but look inwardly. Mike - Blessing of same sex couples seems like the camel's nose under the tent. Vincent - Son is engaged to a woman who is disrupting the family. What should we do? (47:18)

Thoughts on lessons learned in content and info marketing from the late Roy Masters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLyPlpEQFSA Transcription Content Marketing Mastery. I am Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live. This is a picture of a fellow who just passed away this last week, somebody who I got to know because I got to work with him a little bit early on. In the early days of BrianJPombo.com I got to meet this guy named Roy Masters. And Roy Masters is a very controversial figure. Especially out here in Grants Pass Oregon. So he was when he first came to town, he was running a very large church. It was a church made up of basically followers that had began listening to him over the radio. He was somebody who I got to work with directly and see how content marketing works on a very large scale. So I'm not going to talk about his views. I'm not going to talk about any of the controversial things about this guy, you can go and look that stuff up yourself. But his ability to create content was pretty amazing. And I'm going to tell you about three different three different things that he was a master at when it came to content marketing. Okay, first off, he began in radio back in the 60s, and start started very early did not really know what he was doing, and ended up getting into a situation where he was, in a sense, purchasing radio time. And because of that, he could basically say whatever he wanted, and so he would have these, these he would do, basically whatever he wanted with his show, it ended up becoming an advice based show where people would call in with their issues, and he'd give them advice. But it could go in any direction he can cover politics could cover anything he wanted, which oftentimes would get him into hot water. This was very early on long before talk radio was considered a major deal. And, you know, the conservative talk radio and all that wasn't in existence when he first started out. But he was very early on one of these people that was a pioneer he got out there and just just got in there and did it and was very early on even during a time period when infomercials, infomercials were illegal. He was able to skirt around that being that his his dealt more with religious and, and more, one on one nonprofit help. So because he was able to do that he was able to purchase time on the radio and was able to basically give an infomercial and to be able to sell his books and so on so forth. Which brings me that so the first one is really his ability to be able to go in early and take advantage of opportunities that other people weren't taken advantage of in media. And you got to keep your eyes open, because things are always changing. Laws are always changing and new mediums are opening up all the time, new forms of social media. I mean, if you just talk online, there's new formats always being opened up. Right now when we're recording this in 2021. There's a clubhouse is one that I've been hearing a whole lot about this is I believe it's only on the iPhone, the Apple iPhone, but it is an app where you can go on, nothing is recorded. But there are there are verbal conversations going back and forth with everybody. And people host kind of little radio shows. It's something that did not exist much earlier. But now it is. And now it's a thing and it may morph into another thing. And people are taking advantage of it and they're making money off of it and making relationships and everything else. Here's the second thing that Roy would do. Roy created content in mass. I mean, he pumped out content…so he died at 93, during a period of time when I was doing some work for him, he had and this was as as a contractor for BrianJPombo.om I run into a lot of colorful characters in this line of work you can imagine. And what he had was he had a radio show that was on five days a week, three hours a day,

After hearing about the passing of his long time friend, Roy Masters, MZ invites Andy Anderson and David Masters to discuss the influence that Roy had on KSCO's staff and audience. Roy was a spiritual counselor, radio host, author and founder of the Foundation of Human Understanding. Roy's views would often provoke extreme opinions from listeners. We remeber Roy Masters on this week's edition of "The Saturday Special with Michael Zwerling".

Cross TrainingLet the Lord’s Values Shape Your AffectionsRead or WatchWhen I was little, I loved watching Westerns with my dad. He loved them, so I loved them. We wore cowboy boots, and it brought us closer together. Now, my kids love to share the things I love too. On football Saturdays, we all dress up in our Buckeye gear and watch College Football Gameday together. My daughter even made a drawing of Brutus the Buckeye she hangs next to the TV each Saturday. They don't know much about football, really, but they love it because I love it, and it's something we can share. As we follow Jesus and seek to grow closer to him, we want to bond with him by sharing the things he loves, delighting in his delights. Roy Masters said, "Loving what is right is different than hating what is wrong and feeling right about it." If knowing the truth is the first dimension of discipleship, what comes next in Cross Training to be Jesus' disciple? We need to let the Lord direct our affections so that what Jesus values shapes our whole inner life. What You Need to KnowWhen the Bible talks about the "heart" it refers to the "center and source of the whole inner life, with its thinking, feeling, and volition" (Bauer-Danker-Arndt-Gingrich). So it includes our emotions, but also our thoughts and will. When King David was a young nobody, God sent Samuel to anoint the next king. As each of David's brothers came before Samuel, he thought, "ah, here's the one, I'm looking at the next king of Israel!" But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart" (1 Sam. 16:7). After doing that song and dance seven times, Samuel asked, "Is this everybody?" And they sent for the youngest, who was out tending the sheep. When David ran up, the Lord said, "Arise, anoint him, for this is he" (1 Sam. 16:12). God called David "a man after my heart, who will do all my will" (Acts 13:22). Why did God so value a person "after" his heart? Why does he ignore what we tend to value and look "on the heart" (1 Sam. 16:7)?Your life flows from your heart. "Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life" (Prov. 4:23). Like a fountain, your heart bubbles up and spills out into the world (Luke 6:45). It's no wonder God cares about your heart more than all the stuff that occupies most people's time. What You Need to DoJesus' disciples must pay constant attention to transforming our affections and attitudes to reflect the Lord's character. In John's gospel, the first words of Jesus are "What are you seeking?" (John 1:37). Have you ever asked yourself that? The reality is, you'll often get what you're looking for (cf. Matt. 7:8). At times, we all fight against our desires to choose the right thing (Rom. 7:19). But a significant change comes in a Christian's life when what we want changes (cf. Rom. 8:5-7). It's not an automatic switch that "just happens" one day. Keeping our heart with vigilance requires us to recognize what's happening in our hearts (Prov. 4:23) and do the daily work of exposing ourselves to God's transforming power. The Psalms begin with a blessing on those who meditate on God's instruction (Psalm 1), envisioning a tree planted by the water. A drizzle on the surface won't change our hearts. Like a tree whose roots get soaked in a flowing stream, we need to get drenched in God's nourishing word. While Bible study helps us understand the truth (Dimension 1), Bible meditation lets it seep into us so that our response begins to change in the moment of action. Take the time to think deeply about it, pray it, and talk about it. Finally, it's a daily practice — catching ourselves going down the wrong mental pathways and redirecting. Our mindset slowly changes from frustrated to grateful, from bitter to forgiving, from covetous to content, and from irritable to patient. God's word gets etched onto our hearts, and his Spirit brings fruit into our lives (Gal. 5:22-24).Through the WeekRead (Mon) — Luke 2:41-52; Prov. 4:23; Acts 13:22; Matt. 7:7-8; Gal. 5:22-24Reflect (Tue) — What do I really want? Is that the same thing that God wants?Request (Wed) — "Lord, create in me a clean heart. Renew a right spirit within me." (Psalm 51:10)Respond (Thu) — Write a letter to yourself describing who you want to be.Reach Out (Fri) — How have your aspirations and attitudes changed as you've matured? What future "heart" changes do you want to make?Support the Show
