Episode 46: What's Interesting, SLCC17, Monsterhedz, and more!Hosts: Frank Shaw and John BellistonProduced by Relevant to Our InterestsScripting by Frank Shaw and John BellistonEdited by: Frank ShawGraphic Design by: Nathan NewellIntro Music: Morning Activities by F.G. ShawOutro Music: Morning Activities by F.G. ShawWe cover a lot of stuff in this episode. Some of it briefly, some of it more in depth. So let's dive in!John, through luck and amazing friends, has been to every Salt Lake City Comic Con and FanX since the first one in 2013. It's nine different events that he's been able to attend, and he's enjoyed himself every time. I have only been to one, unfortunately, but hey, there's always next year! To see some of the stuff that happened this year at SLCC17, just follow the link. It's an amazingly big convention, especially for such a small state, and it outranks a lot of similar conventions in a lot bigger areas. Of course one of the big things about SLCC17 for John was getting to pick up some more MonsterHedz art from our friend Ronnie Hansen. I've known Ronnie for years and I can tell you that he's one hell of a nice guy and he puts a tremendous amount of passion and work into everything he does. Check out his website, and for up to date info, the Facebook Page here.  John's Orklings and Cyclopslings from MonsterHedz. Next China Mieville: All things aside (if you know anything about him) China Mieville's worlds - specifically New Crobuzon - are amazing. I'm not going to go into any great depth here. I have a feeling that we will soon be putting Perdido Street Station on the calendar and dedicate a full episode to it. Here's an article from the AV Club as sort of a Mieville primer if you will. Finally, very briefly. 'Allo 'Allo is on Netflix, go watch it. John has, and I will be very soon. Magic the Gathering's next set, well here's their website go check it out. Here's some updates to the Disney/Netflix goings on.

Starling Tribune - Season 4.5 Special Edition – Legends Of Tomorrow Destiny (A CW Network Arrow Television Show Fan Podcast)   The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network   Episode:            Season 1, Episode 15 of DC's Legends of Tomorrow -  “Destiny” Air Date:           May 12th, 2016 on the CW television network, and on CTV up there in Canada Transcript:         http://transcripts.foreverdreaming.org/viewtopic.php?f=557&t=27155    IMDB:               http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4952752/?ref_=tt_ep_nx   Director:           Olatunde Osunsanmi IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1069989/?ref_=ttfc_fc_dr1 Similar to last week, this week marks another directorial debut on the Berlantiverse, with Mr. Osun-sanmi joining the DC TV family on this episode.  He's no stranger to behind the camera or to genre TV though                         Berlantiverse: Nothing Other Director Credits: 1x Bates Motel | 2x Sleepy Hollow | 2x Minority Report | 6x Falling Skies | 1x The Last Ship and others                         Writers:             No ‘writing' credit -- This week marks another week with no formal writing credit. Instead, as we run up to the finale, the showrunners pretty much took the helm, and if you're a fan of the show or this podcast, you're no stranger to the names of the fine folks who got the creative credits this week                           Story By: Marc Guggenheim                         Teleplay By: Phil Klemmer and Chris Fedak                         Executive Story Editor: Ray Utarnachitt   Weekly Ratings   Episode 15: Rating of 1.89 - This was up from series low of 1.62 the preceding week!     Monday 9 May 2016 Supergirl No episode Season 1 ended April 18th   Tuesday 10 May 2016 The Flash (Ep 2.21) Rating: 3.52 “The Runaway Dinosaur” Kevin Smith directs this episode, where Barry enters the speedforce to face his past and emerge stronger and faster.   Wednesday 11 May 2016 Arrow (Ep. 4.21) Rating: 2.16 “Monument Point” Darhk begins taking over the world's nuclear stockpile, and Felicity redirects a nuke to the town of Monument Point.   Thursday 12 May 2016 Legends Legends (Ep 1.15) Rating: 1.89 “Destiny” The team has the final showdown with the Time Masters after the reveal of the Oculus. Fight/stunt 3 Battle in the oculus chamber.  Lots of firing, heat gun, cold gun etc. Time travel: Thoughts on the tropes and mechanics Nice flashback to start, back to the recruiting scene in 2016 Great to see the team back before all the messing with the timeline Jax - “Something called time travel - the team's in trouble”.  Very Bill and Ted showing up in his own past once he's left the room. (Marty! It's your kids!) This timetravel model, there is no free will - only free will at the vanishing point Nothing you can do to change time?   Part 2: The Characters Rip Hunter Rate on a scale of 1 (Capt. of the Titanic - Edward John Smith) to 10 (the best - Picard) Freaking out with “NO ONE CONTROLS ME” which breaks him. “You lot guard the entrance”. I'm sorry, but is “you lot” the official way to address the crew. Well, it's either that or walk the plank Argggg! Shrinks Ray to carry him. Vandal Savage “An appointment I have… with Destiny” kinda sounds like an exotic dancer Execution of Rip's family - still murders Miranda and Jonas Time Masters The Reveal of the oculus and the reveal of the master manipulation of the entire crew Ordered Savage to kill Rip's family to motivate him.  Super dick move. Guy doing the induction process kinda enjoys it. Love the time ships preparing to jump in the hangar, like the rebel fleet about to attack the death star or the Mass Effect Pelicans getting ready for a combat drop or the Space Marines about to assault the Alien Queen with Ripley The Atom - Ray Palmer Still cares for Kendra - freaked out when she was shot by the prison guards. Continues the theme of believing in the face of adversity Interesting bonding with Mick & how he survived not being turned into Chronos “All I wanted to do was make a difference.”  Keeps working even though that's how he dies. White Canary - Sara Lance And she's a badass pilot.  “Punch it Gideon” “Want to steal a kiss from me… you better be one hell of a thief”.  Dammit, I really wanted these two to get together. - then the final kiss just kills me. Hawkgirl - Kendra Saunders Kinda loses it when she realizes Savage is going to kill Rip's family.  That was the whole point of the mission… well, that and saving the earth from Savage's destruction and reign. They arguably failed at all of that and made it worse. No barista reference. Hawkman - Carter Hall In stasis - not in this episode Captain Cold - Leonard Snart I freakin' love Snart in the past Dammit - I want an entire show of just Sara and Snart “There are no strings on me”  Frickin beautiful line. He was a hero. Heatwave - Mick Rory Soliloquy when faced with becoming Chronos again - “I focused on vengeance. I focused on how much I hated all of you” “Oh yeah, that's good… break my arms” - Mick has the best lines “For a time master, you sure waste a lot of it” Executes the a**-hole time master “Get me out of this stupid robot suit” “If you tell the team I actually care, I'll shave your head” - focused on the team Firestorm - Professor Martin Stein Arrogant interaction with Jax in the past Nice speech to Jax about something having gone right on the mission re: Jefferson maturing and he being less of an asshat. Firestorm - Jefferson Jackson “It's the best decision I never made.” re: being roofied and going on the mission. Waverider/Gideon Calls on the ye olde fashioned phone - uploaded into the latency core. Love the firing effects on the vanishing point   EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS:   Season 1 Episode 15 “Destiny” (Date: 12 May 2016) Article:http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/05/13/legends-of-tomorrow-things-you-might-have-missed-in-destiny/ Thanagar: Legends of Tomorrow made Thanagarians - DC's alien hawkman species and home to Nth Metal with strong ties to Hawkgirl and Hawkman, this just became cannon for the DC TV Universe.  Lots of comic references and lore, and on the cartoon Justice League Unlimited Smugglers Hatch: Pretty obvious reference to Star Wars and the Millennium Falcon Time Sphere: When Jax heads back to 2016, we get a look at he and Martin working on the Time Sphere that was broken in the season finale of The Flash last year.  In the comics, the Time Sphere (also sometimes called a Time Bubble) was the primary means of time-travel used by Rip Hunter, Time Master...as well as Booster Gold, The Legion of Super-Heroes, and other characters. “I'll shave your head”: The threat Mick uses against Ray -- that he'll "shave your head" -- is presumably a nod to the fact that all season long, he's referred to Ray as "haircut.". “No strings on me”: Iconic Pinocchio line, used by Ultron in the second avengers movie Tabula Rasa: While "Tabula rasa" has a broader cultural meaning outside of DC Comics, meaning "blank slate," as explained by Ray…  it's worth noting that there are two major DC Comics uses of the phrase: one is a Batman story in which he is forced to work with Bane -- and the other is an organization in the Wildstorm universe whose actual name is Tabula Rasa. Diane Nelson and Geoff Johns – the people at Warner Bros. on the feature side, the people at Warner Bros. on the television side – are all in the business of making the best products for fans. The second is dealing with the fallout from the final fight with the Ninth Circle. * First issue with Stephen Byrne taking the art over from Juan Ferreyra, and the art style is less realistic and more anime, which isn't really my style, but I can see it work with Emi and a Japanese setting for the current story. * Problem with a “dire” cliffhanger for Emi is that we know she's not in any danger, which made it a poor choice for a cliffhanger from a writing perspective Comixology:https://www.comixology.com/Green-Arrow-2016-6/digital-comic/397908?ref=bGlzdC92aWV3L2Rlc2t0b3AvZ3JpZExpc3QvbGlzdDEzMDI4 CBRU: http://comicbookroundup.com/comic-books/reviews/dc-comics/green-arrow-(2016)/6 * CBRU (Metacritic) aggregate Score is brought down by a couple fours, but other than that scored pretty-much 8's and 9's   NEXT EPISODE   Promo for Next Week: Legends Of Tomorrow Season 1 Finale - “Legendary” Article:http://www.comicbookmovie.com/dc_tv/legends_of_tomorrow/new-extended-promo-for-legends-of-tomorrow-season-1-a141630 Video: https://youtu.be/lrsVKX1nU0A IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5052438/?ref_=tt_ep_nx   Episode:                                       “Legendary” [Season 1 Episode 16] Air Date:                                      Thursday, May 19th, 2016 Summary:                                    After the numerous sacrifices the team has made since the beginning of this ride, Rip decides that it's time they each decide their own destiny and returns them to Central City a few months after they first left. We were privileged to have former LDS Church member, author of Woven, and new member of the atheist community, Michael Rupp, in-studio with us for an interview.    You might remember that Michael had a hard time getting his book published because the initial publisher he signed with refused to put Michael's chosen bio on the book. The bio tipped readers off to the fact that Michael is a gay man by including a line about living in Salt Lake City with his then partner, now husband, and their four dogs. The publisher "wondered what effect [Michael's bio] would have" on their LDS readers. Michael wasn't about to be forced back into the closet, so he stood firm and nearly lost the book deal entirely - until, that is, his partner put the publisher on blast by creating a press release that went viral.  We ride an emotional roller coaster with Michael to cover everything from his upbringing in a very devout LDS family, the mission he served as a member of the LDS Church, his time spent studying at Brigham Young University, coming out as gay to his family, writing his novel, and the abuse he suffered when he tried to get his book published.  You can meet Michael during this year's Salt Lake City Comic Con, where he and his co-author will be signing copies of their book!   Closing Song, as chosen by Michael: Barbra Streisand - Don't Rain On My Parade   Show Links: Internation Business Times: Publisher Cancels Novel Because Author Is GayBoing Boing: "God gave you a penis for a reason" – publisher cancels gay author's novelHuffington Post / Fox 13 News: Michael Jensen, Gay Author Of ‘Woven,’ Claims He Lost Book Deal Because Of His SexualityPatheos - The Friendly Atheist: After Publisher Blocks Book’s Release Over Mention of Author’s Same-Sex Boyfriend in Bio, There’s a Happy EndingFacebook: Michael Rupp's Fan PageWebsite for Woven book  You can find the Godless Rebelution around the Internet at these links: Podbean Facebook Twitter You can also send us hate mail, show ideas, questions, corrections, whines, and rants at:  GodlessRebelution@gmail.com  ~ OR ~ Send us a text or leave us a voicemail message at: 330-81-REBEL

Axanar creates connections to the Star Trek that we know and love, and does so in two directions. It bridges the gap between Enterprise and The Original Series, and does so through story, technology, and people. One familiar face is Ambassador Soval … and not just the character, but the man who brought him to life on Enterprise. In this episode of the official Axanar podcast, hosts Robert Meyer Burnett and Alec Peters are joined by that man, Gary Graham, to discuss how he became involved in Axanar, how he got the role of Soval on Enterprise, and how crowdfunding is changing Hollywood. Gary also tells stories of how he first got into acting, what it was like to be a young actor in the 1980s, and even tells you the “correct” way to pronounce his last name. In news, Rob and Alec are joined by the Goddess of Fulfillment, Diana Kingsbury, for an update on those Axanar perks and recent developments in the production process, and a recap of their visit to Salt Lake City Comic Con. An Author's View of Axanar with James Swallow. One of the most exciting parts of writing a story like Axanar is the opportunity to add richness to the Star Trek universe. This is something than few people know better than James Swallow, author of many novels including The Poisoned Chalice, part of the New York Times bestselling Star Trek series "The Fall." So how does a novelist view the story of The Four Years War and how Axanar is expanding upon events and characters that we've learned very little about in past Trek? In this episode of the official Star Trek: Axanar podcast, Alec Peters and Christopher Jones are joined by James to get an author's view of the Axanar story, the way the Klingons are being portrayed, the backstory of Garth, and where the story might go next. Plus, James gives us a few teasers about his next two Star Trek books, included the Titan novel Sight Unseen. In our news segment we recap the events of Salt Lake City Comic Con, discuss the first steps in pre-production of the full Axanar film, which kicked off on September 8 (the 48th anniversary of Star Trek), learn a bit more about Garrett Wang's Klingon role, get a post-Kickstarter update, and find out what kind of Axanar merchandise is in the pipeline.   Send us your feedback! Nasir and Matt cap off the week talking about San Diego Comic-Con suing a comic con in Salt Lake City for trademark infringement. They then answer the question, "I want to bring on a new shareholder in my S Corp. The only problem is they are not a US citizen. How can I get around this issue?" Full Podcast Transcript NASIR: Welcome to Legally Sound Smart Business. This is Nasir Pasha and… this is… MATT: This is Matt Staub. NASIR: Matt, Matt Staub. Darn it. Welcome to our business legal podcast where we cover business in the news and also answer some of your business legal questions that you, the listener, can send in to ask@legallysoundsmartbusiness.com, and that’s an email address so just don’t mail that in to that address. You have to use your email system to do that. MATT: You know, all week, you’ve been trying to introduce me, say my name at the same time I say it. It’s two different audio recordings so I guess, if you really wanted to, you could just have it be at the same time. I don’t know if it really matters. Even if you would have gotten the exact same recording, we could have changed it anyways. NASIR: Well, I assume you haven’t been listening to the previous episodes because I’ve had Chris cut out your name pretty much every time, and your voice. So, it’s just been me this entire time for the last few weeks. I was wondering if you were going to mention anything but you didn’t say anything so I assumed you knew. MATT: Just dead air time in times when I was actually speaking? NASIR: Yeah, and it sounds like I’m talking to myself and I’m hearing voices which, sometimes, I do feel that. MATT: Well, we’re going to go close to home with this story because we’re dealing with San Diego Comic-Con, specifically a lawsuit, of course, because that seems to be what we usually talk about. This is interesting because I obviously knew San Diego Comic-Con. It’s a huge event every year but I had seen some other Comic Cons that have popped up and I didn’t know if there was an affiliation with the San Diego Comic-Con or what the deal was and this kind of gives me an answer because San Diego Comic-Con is suing the Salt Lake City Comic Con. I guess this lawsuit was just filed – very fresh lawsuit, basically saying that they’re infringing upon their trademark with the Comic Cons. I guess the difference is the Salt Lake City Comic Con must have been awful. I take that back. It was either awful or it was so good and so lucrative that San Diego is trying to get money from it. It’s one of the two, probably. NASIR: Yeah, and I don’t know, have you ever been to the Comic Con in San Diego? MATT: I’ve never been. I’ve gone down to the area a few times but I’ve never actually been inside for any of the actual stuff. NASIR: Yeah. I’ve always wanted to go and I’ve come close but then I feel weird. I feel like it’s not for me. I feel like I’m almost depriving other people that are more interested in those things than I am so I feel like, “Okay, I’ll just let other people go,” because there are very limited tickets and it gets sold out every time and you have to go in the wait list. They come out I think six-plus months in the year and so forth for the San Diego Convention. But, the Salt Lake Comic Con, it’s actually pretty popular apparently. It’s only been going on for a few years and so forth. In Utah’s defense, they talk about that’s why they’re being targeted – because of their recent popularity and so forth. But what’s interesting is what you said. You were assuming that there was some kind of affiliation and that’s kind of an issue. The organizations are suing this Salt Lake Comic Con because it confuses fans into thinking the two are affiliated and that’s pretty much the basis for an infringement – if there’s a likelihood of confusion. Here, obviously, I mean, you have Salt Lake Comic Con and San Diego Comic-Con. When people say the Comic Con, pretty much everyone I understand knows that that refers to San Diego Summer Comic Con...
