This episode is sponsored by AlixPartners The Disruption Matters special podcast miniseries is back for a third season, and this year, leading industry experts discuss how private markets can best use today's technologies to create value. In this fifth episode, we discuss tech's role in recruiting, onboarding and developing talent. Along the way, we address how best to recruit Gen Z, the limits of AI in this particular arena and how tech is changing the nature of talent management as a discipline. With tech tackling so many of the rudimentary tasks around talent management, human capital professionals will be freed up to focus on the more complicated tasks around motivation, evaluation and leadership. In short, tech may make some duties simpler, but the key challenges of managing people will still need to be addressed by humans. Guests include Christopher P Trendler, managing director and head of portfolio talent at Madison Dearborn Partners; Nicole Jones, talent director, portfolio support group at Advent International; John Sander, principal, portfolio solutions at Lightyear Capital; and Ted Bililies, the global leader of transformative leadership at AlixPartners. 800 Euro! Was macht die ehemaligen Leute nun? In today's Daily Fix:News broke yesterday that the staff of Annapurna's gaming division has resigned. According to Bloomberg, the resignations were over Annapurna Interactive's negotiations with founder Megan Ellison regarding the company spinning off into its own. Parent company Annapurna Pictures is a media company that also produces film and television. The gaming division is a publishing house that has published several hit games, including Stray and Outer Wilds. According to Ellison, all existing contracts to publish upcoming games will still be honored. In other news, Palworld developer Pocketpair is considering taking its hit survival/monster raising game free-to-play. The game currently sells for around $30 USD on Windows and Xbox (and also available via Xbox Game Pass), but could follow a free-to-play model. This follows several high-profile live-service game flops including Sony's Concord and Xbox Game Studios' Redfall, both of which required to be purchased in addition to microtransactions. And finally, the PS5 Pro edition could be a surprise hit, despite its high price. This conjecture is based on recent sales of the PS5 disc drive attachment—originally meant for the PS5 Slim model, but confirmed to work with the Pro edition. Apparently the attachment is sold out on Amazon and stock is reportedly running low on other retailers like Best Buy.

The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2024/03/binary-system-podcast-401-wtnv-243-lost-and-found-and-more-of-the-oscar-nominations/ On this week's Night Vale episode, we highly approve of Cecil devoting an entire broadcast to Lost and Found submissions, because writer Brie Williams is very good with lists of random weirdness, unexpected sweetness, and things with TEETH. From there we jump into three more Oscar nominated films we finally watched, namely Oppenheimer (brilliant but a bit too long, with "the most unnecessary nude scene ever"), Elemental, and Nimona. While we think Pixar usually has the better shot at winning the Animated Feature award, we're really pulling for Nimona. Along the way we wander off into tangents like the Hot Ones show, Florence Pugh, Redbox, nerd underwear, and the REALLY STUPID ADS in Amazon Prime. This week's outro is a clip from Keepsake by Beat Mekanik. Clarification: Redbox is 2.25, but that's just for one night, once you double it it's about the same as most of the 2-night rentals from Prime. Correction: Elemental did have a theatrical release, but according to the New York Times it had "the worst opening in Pixar history." It's since become a lot more successful. Correction #2 - Annapurna Pictures is the production company that took over from Blue Sky Studios when Disney axed Nimona. Kathryn got her Soot Sprite undies from All Teh Smol Things. A week that was supposed to bring more woe for Rishi Sunak has turned into arguably the biggest test of Keir Starmer's leadership. Labour has had to suspend two of its parliamentary candidates for making comments about Israel. For Starmer, who's staked his reputation on ridding Labour of anti-semitism, it's been hugely embarrassing. Nish and Coco reflect on the farcical situation in Rochdale, where Azhar Ali will appear as a Labour candidate on the by-election ballot in a couple of weeks, despite the party having removed its support for him. With the Horizon Post Office scandal having put the use of non-disclosure agreements back in the spotlight, we hear from a woman who has made it her mission to stop NDAs being used to silence victims. Zelda Perkins, a former assistant to Harvey Weinstein, tells Nish and Coco about the traumatic experience of signing her NDA, which she likens to “legal waterboarding”, and why she chose to break it to help expose the film producer's crimes. Based on ND Stevenson's graphic novel, Nimona started life with Blue Sky Studios, and when Blue Sky was acquired by Disney in its purchase of 20th Century Fox, originally Nimona's production continued. When Disney officially cancelled Nimona, it came as no surprise to the team working on the movie. While officially the reasons for cancellation were financial, rumours swirled that Disney didn't like the LGBTQ themes, and opposed a same-sex kiss. But Nimona, and the crew behind the movie, refused to give up, and thanks to Annapurna Pictures and Netflix, Nimona was reborn. Nimona is more than a character. Nimona is the story of the making of this movie. Nimona is the scrappy underdog who refuses to back down from a fight. Nimona refuses to let a corporate entity subdue her and control her. Skwigly.com presents Animation One-To-Ones featuring Ryan Gaur in conversation with ND Stevenson, discussing the Netflix feature film adaptation of his Eisner-winning graphic novel 'Nimona' Released on Netflix earlier this year, the world of 'Nimona' began with Stevenson's National Book Award-nominated and New York Times best-selling graphic novel that tells the story of the titular teen shapeshifter Nimona and her adventures as sidekick to wronged knight Ballister Boldheart. The film adaptation is directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane based on a screenplay by Robert L. Baird and Lloyd Taylor. Alongside being known for the much-loved comic series 'Lumberjanes', which picked up multiple Eisner awards, ND Stevenson initially introduced Nimona to the world as a webcomic in the early 2010s, which would ultimately see itself published and snag an Eisner of its own, among other accolades. His career in animation has included writing work on Disney's 'Wander Over Yonder' and showrunning the acclaimed 2018 reboot 'She-Re and the Princesses of Power', while ongoing attempts to translate the world of Nimona to a feature film were stymied by delays and cancellations before finding a home on Netflix with production house Annapurna Pictures. Denne gang med seje Camina Drummer fra The Expanse-universet i hovedrollen i spillet The Expanse: A Telltale Series. In this episode of Journey to the Blue Sky, Arun and Patricia bend the rules a bit by discussing about the 2023 animated film Nimona based on the 2015 graphic novel by N.D. Stevenson. A commoner named Ballister Boldheart is being knighted in the Institute for Elite Knights where ordinarily people who are descendants of royalty from Queen Glorith would be chosen. Things go horribly wrong when he is seeing killing the queen with a laser coming out of his sword and is deemed a "murderer" and "monster". A shapeshifter named Nimona wishes to be Ballister's sidekick to cause mayhem, but instead he wishes to find out who framed him so he can clear his name. Originally produced by Blue Sky Studios, it was cancelled in 2021 when Disney bought the rights to the company and shut it down. It was picked up by Annapurna Pictures and released as a Netflix exclusive. When the film was released, it became a critical hit for its animation, voice over performances, its LGBTQ representation, and satirizing the formula of animated films. The ThawedCast: Conversations About Animation

'Nimona' is an animated film released by Netflix on June 30, 2023. It was produced by Annapurna Pictures and the animation team formerly of Blue Sky, the studio behind 'Ice Age' (2002) and 'Spies and Disguise' (2019) and a casualty of the Disney/21st Century Fox acquisition. Nimona is set in a world of futuristic technology combined with medieval chivalry and opens on the televised knighting ceremony of Ballister Boldheart. Immediately upon being knighted, Sir Ballister is framed for assassination and forced on the run. Wounded and desperate, he encounters a mysterious young girl who seems impervious to danger. Nimona is a shapeshifter who volunteers to assist Ballister in his efforts to evade capture and clear his name. This uneasy alliance could upend everything Ballister has come to value as a knight, exposing a darkness that has always existed within the order he has sworn to protect. Two Dudes Watch Cartoons

Two Dudes review Annapurna Pictures' new animated feature, Nimona. A mischievous shapeshifter (Chloe Grace Moretz) helps a disgraced knight (Riz Ahmed) prove his innocence in a royal assassination plot. Based on a ND Stevenson's webcomic and 2015 graphic novel of the same name, this thoughtful queer allegory has fought its way to screens after almost meeting its demise in the hands of Disney. Nimona - Was lange währt, wird endlich wahr! Editor - Randy Trager, ACE NIMONA editor, Randy Trager, ACE makes a return trip to The Rough Cut to share the inside story of how his latest film went from dead on the cutting room floor to live and loud on Netflix.  Beginning its development life under the banner of Blue Sky studios and its parent company 21st Century Fox, NIMONA and the rest of the Blue Sky team were moved under Disney during their acquisition of Fox.  The film's rocky development road seemingly ended in April 2021 when Disney shuttered Blue Sky.  With her relentless, never-say-die attitude, NIMONA found new life again with Annapurna Pictures and Netflix. NIMONA tells the tale of Ballister Boldheart (Riz Ahmed), a knight in a futuristic medieval world, who is framed for a crime he didn't commit.  The only one who can help him prove his innocence?  Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz), a mischievous teen with a taste for mayhem - who also happens to be a shapeshifting creature Ballister has been trained to destroy. But with the entire kingdom out to get him, Nimona's the best (and technically the only) sidekick Ballister can hope for.  And as the lines between heroes, villains, and monsters start to blur, the two of them set out to wreak serious havoc - for Ballister to clear his name once and for all, and for Nimona to...just wreak serious havoc. RANDY TRAGER, ACE Randy began his editorial journey as an assistant editor on features such as NURSE BETTY (2000), WHAT WOMEN WANT (2000) and MEN IN BLACK II (2002).  He then made the move to working in feature animation as an assistant on ROBOTS (2005) until he got bumped up to the editor's chair on RIO (2011), THE PEANUTS MOVIE (2015) and SPIES IN DISGUISE (2019) Editing Nimona In our discussion with NIMONA editor Randy Trager ACE, we talk about: How to pack and unpack an animated feature Keeping the tone light while keeping it real The virtual future of animation studios Voice over and over and over again Breaking the law with needle drops The Credits Visit ExtremeMusic for all your production audio needs Check out what's new with Avid Media Composer Hear Randy discuss his work on Blue Sky's SPIES IN DISGUISE Subscribe to The Rough Cut podcast and never miss an episode Visit The Rough Cut on YouTube

By epbechthold - de.wikipedia epbechthold, CC BY-SA 3.0.Details, credits, errata: This week’s guest is friend of the pod and all-around good guy Spencer Ackerman, who won the Pulitzer and the IRE Medal for his work on the Guardian’s Snowden coverage team and a National Magazine Award for his reporting on anti-Muslim training materials used to teach FBI recruits. His book Reign of Terror, which builds on that excellent reporting, is due out from Viking on August 10; you can pre-order it here. Sam has read it; it’s very good. Our film, I’m sorry to say, is Kathryn Bigelow’s despicable 2012 Oscar-bait torture apologia Zero Dark Thirty, one of the most morally repellent things I’ve had the misfortune to watch, down there with The Birth of a Nation and Triumph of the Will. Spencer is great on it; we apologize for foisting it on him since he is also one of the great writers on the topic of torture, but his expertise on that subject is absolutely invaluable and so we hope you enjoy his perspective. Spencer has also consulted on better movies, notably Armando Iannucci’s UK-US politics farce In the Loop, and he has a lot to say about the difference between verisimilitude and veracity here. Spencer broke the news that the CIA tried to suppress the work of Dan Jones, a staffer for Dianne Feinstein, as he helped the Senate compile its torture report (you may remember this from the excellent movie The Report, which is about Jones’s disclosures). One other writer we want to shout out is Jason Leopold, who did the incredible reporting revealing the extent of the filmmakers’ cooperation with the CIA in the making of the movie. Our image for this week is from Wikimedia commons, used with our thanks to user EPBechthold; it is of a number of supposed torture devices including the Iron Maiden of Nuremberg, a coffin with big spikes in it that the medievals supposedly closed on victims, which would indeed have been a horrible way to die if it was real, but it wasn’t. It was made up to demonstrate the barbarity of a different civilization, which certainly had its flaws and cruelties but wasn’t composed of bizarre, sadistic un-people. Some of the devices are real, and some aren’t. The tendency to invent atrocities to justify atrocities is worth bearing in mind if you watch this movie along with us.Our theme song is Louis Armstrong and His Hot 5’s Muskrat Ramble, made freely available by the Boston Public Library and audio engineering shop George Blood, LP through the Internet Archive. Zero Dark Thirty is copyright 2012 Annapurna Pictures.

And there are so many times where you’re excited that the story did take off, the wind did catch the sail and it went off on its own. And that just feels so good that it far outweighs the times when you make a mistake, or let something go wrong, or too long, or hit the wrong tone. Which is going to happen. There’s no way around it. This conversation reveals how language can be used to silence people rather than open up discussions, and how we need to 'decriminalise bias' if we are to acknowledge our conscious and unconscious biases.    Pooja and Simon discuss their personal experiences of working with diversity; Pooja from a perspective of her 'hyphenated' Indian-UK identity,  and Simon as a white UK male.   They discuss shame and guilt, and how racism is often repressed but returns in different ways in each generation, the latest wave being the Black Lives Matter movement.   Organisations are often performative in the way they use woke-slogans to cover up hidden toxic cultures. A shift is needed from woke and blame cultures towards creating safe spaces that encourage curious conversations, which can reveal what's really going on, and enable positive reform and changes to be made.  Enjoy this podcast.  Note: Pooja and Simon will be leading a Webinar titled 'Diversity and Inclusion: Are you performing or reforming' on January 28th 2021 3-5pm UK time.  For more information contact simon@analyticnetwork.com (mailto:simon@analyticnetwork.com)     Bio Pooja is a business psychologist, organisational consultant and founder of Rewire Consulting (www.rewireconsulting.com (http://www.rewireconsulting.com/) ).  Pooja is co-author of 'Rewire: A Radical Approach to Tackling Diversity and Difference', which was published by Bloomsbury in 2015 and described by the FT as "the most refreshing approach to diversity I have read" (Nov 4, 2015). This may be the most valuable, content-heavy podcast we've ever released! We open with us revisiting Battlefield of old. Austin redownloads Battlefield 3 and 4 to talk on how he misses the modern combat era. This leads us to speculate what's to come from Battlefield 6 when it arrives next year?In the news, we focus on 3 big things: Destiny 2's upcoming expansions, the Guerilla Collective indie games show and the PC Gaming Show. Destiny announces not one, but 3 new expansions to cover the next 3 years of content. Beyond Light is up first and we'll also see Destiny 1 content make a comeback in the rotation. Guerilla Collective is a show featuring MIX and Kinda Funny and they covered a ton of awesome indie games including some new footage from Baldur's Gate 3. The PC Gaming Show also had a 2 hour epic and we cover about half of that event with some reveals such as Torchlight 3, Dwarfheim, Icarus and Godfall for PC.In the discussion, we were ecstatic to talk about the fantastic Playstation 5 reveal event. What we thought would be just a games showcase, ended up revealing the gorgeous new console as well. This show was packed with announcements such as Spiderman Miles Morales, Horizon 2 Forbidden West, Rachet and Clank: Rift Apart, Project Athia, Deathloop, Godfall and much more. [Watch the video interview on our YouTube Channel] In this All Access we are joined by Academy Award nominated composer, Nicholas Britell. Based out of New York, Nicholas has quickly garnered critical acclaim after he found himself thrust into the world of film composing. Through some chance meetings and introductions, Nicholas found himself scoring for amazing directing talents such as Natalie Portman, Steve McQueen, Adam McKay and Barry Jenkins. These collaborations led to scores such as A Tale Of Love And Darkness, 12 Years A Slave, The Big Short, Moonlight, and recently Vice and If Beale Street Could Talk. In this All Access we dive into Nicholas's path to becoming a composer, and what the turning point was for him to make a career out of his passion. We discuss working with directors like Steve McQueen, Adam McKay and Barry Jenkins. Nicholas breaks down his approach on scores like The Big Short, Moonlight, Vice, and If Beale Street Could Talk. We also look at how Nicholas wrote all the diegetic music for 12 Years A Slave, and how different that process was compared to writing the actual score which was done by Hans Zimmer. We cover a whole slew of other great topics that pick apart the composing process and how Nicholas learned to build new ways of collaborating with filmmakers to truly find what is best for the scene. Nicholas is one of the most talented and in-demand voices in the industry, and it was a joy to finally have him as a guest. In this episode, Brett plays the game Donut County by Ben Esposito and published by Annapurna Pictures. This game has you playing as a raccoon collecting things into a hole that gets bigger as you grab things. It's a fun puzzle platformer with a clever little story. Find out Brett's final verdict in the show. In our gaming news, we talk about all the new Nindie announcements from last week, the reveal of gameplay for Cyberpunk 2077 and Pewdiepie maybe getting dethroned. We also talk about Xbox's new all access deal with a console, Game Pass and Games with Gold all in one. Finally, we dive into Battlefield V. It's coming out now in November after being delayed a month. We look through the history from announcement to current time and review whether or not it will survive based on some of the issues brought up by the community. We're still hyped about it but there is some concern about its commercial success. Check out video clips of our discussion every week over at youtube.com/theinnergamer. Boots Riley is the writer and director of Sorry to Bother You, a film he describes as "an absurdist dark comedy with magical realism and science fiction, inspired by the world of telemarketing." Prior to the film, the poet, rapper, songwriter, producer, screenwriter, humorist, political organizer, community activist, lecturer, and public speaker was best known as the lead vocalist of The Coup and Street Sweeper Social Club. Courtesy of Annapurna Pictures, Sonos and Interscope Records, this live recorded session of Innovation Crush is an examination of the 6 year long, rule-breaking creative process behind the film and it's soundtrack, along with snippets from a few of the songs Boots created with guests like Janelle Monae, Killer Mike, and Tune-Yards.

We enter Hope County this week with Far Cry 5. Does this game deliver on the promises or is Ubisoft finally reaching the end of the road? Brett also plays a simple little mobile game called Florence from Annapurna Pictures. Our news this week covers Sea of Thieves being the best-selling new IP on this generation of the Xbox, new content coming from Pokemon Go and No Man's Sky and the drop in price of the Playstation VR. Our discussion this week is on the unfortunate state of experimental indie games. Games that push the bar but can't reach the right audience. With the recent post-mortem from Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, we talk about ways indie developers (from a gamer perspective) can better reach people with their game. Don't forget to check our video segment on this talk Thursday at youtube.com/theinnergamer. Open up that MI6 dossier because it's time for Episode 9 of The Words Are Not Enough! In this episode Griffin (@griffschiller) and Brody (@brodyserravalli) discuss the following:Tomorrow Never Lies:* Christoph Waltz apparently won't be returning for Bond 25 * Speaking on the red carpet at the Festa del Cinema di Roma, Christoph Waltz confirmed to Italian movie news site Talky Movie that he would not be coming back for Bond 25 to reprise the role of Blofeld: "No, I'm sorry, I'm really sad, but that's the tradition, that there is a new...name. Sorry. I would've liked to." * It was previously understood that Waltz had an option to return to a future Bond film, and these latest comments contradict comments the actor has made in the past stating he would only return if Craig was still in the lead role. * MGM works out new distribution deal * MGM and Annapurna Pictures have formed a new joint venture for theatrical distribution in the U.S. With MGM moving back into distribution, it seems like the natural set-up to distribute the next Bond film* Monica Bellucci * This Tuesday evening in Rome, where she was feted with the Virna Lisi lifetime achievement award, Bellucci smiled at reporters who asked her to comment on the rumors, telling them: “I can't say anything.”* Denis Villeneuve will NOT be doing Bond * In an interview with The Playlist, Denis Villeneuve spoke out about the recent rumours surrounding his involvement in Bond 25: “The thing is I don't now about that, but listen. Daniel Craig is a very inspiring actor and I had some contact and the thing is that I'm busy right now doing Dune. But, I will say to have the privilege to work with him it would be a dream. I would love to work with Daniel and a Bond movie for me would be a treat. It's a matter of timing, I guess.”* Karin Dor * https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4875795/karin-dor-dead-bond-girl-you-only-live-twice-sean-connery/Shaken but Heard:- Ranking All 6 Bond ActorsSUBSCRIBE to the Men vs. Movies YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/channel/UCAlhR6RxXQux2LWok1cIL6wFollow us on Twitter: @MenVsMoviesLike us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/menvs.movies/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-words-are-not-enough/support

In this episode - which, despite being inspired by a film called The Irishman and being recorded over St. Patrick's Day weekend, is categorically not a St. Patrick's Day episode - Ed is joined by critic and podcaster Kayleigh Donaldson (@Ceilidhann on Twitter) to discuss Netflix's recent acquisition of Martin Scorsese's long-gestating gangster epic, as well as how the growth of upstart studios and distributors like Netflix, Amazon, A24, Blumhouse and Annapurna Pictures are shaking up the status quo in Hollywood. There's also some talk about whether or not Jeff Bezos is trying to kill God. Kayleigh's piece on The Irishman, "How Netflix Stole Martin Scorsese's Dream Project From Hollywood" can be found on Screen Rant. 00:00:00 - 00:01:30 - Intro 00:01:31 - 01:10:44 - Ed and Kayleigh discuss The Irishman, Netflix and Amazon's original film slate, the death of the mid-budget movie, Blumhouse.
