Ahoy, pirates! The latest Sea of Thieves Hotfix has officially dropped, bringing a fresh wave of adjustments to the chaotic Last Ship Standing mode. Rare has been closely monitoring the community's feedback and stepped in to tweak the overall pacing of matches. You can expect a better flow that keeps battles from dragging on indefinitely, alongside a much-appreciated extension for victors to catch their breath and claim their spoils at the end of a fight. They've also squashed a major bug that was leaving some crews stranded before the battle even began. However, the seas aren't entirely smooth just yet—the developers are actively tracking a few lingering performance hiccups behind the scenes. Because of this, a couple of lobby and queue features have been temporarily paused while they iron out the kinks. Time to gather your crew and see how the new waters feel! In this episode, Tamara Buzyna Adams, passionate genealogist, family historian, and occupational therapist, joins us to share her transformational journey of turning a lockdown project into her published book, Last Ship to Freedom. Tamara discusses how turning 50 and navigating the pandemic sparked a deep desire for self-discovery, leading her and her mother to translate her grandmother's 100-year-old diaries from Russian to English. She reveals how this incredible archive uncovered a gripping piece of history—the 1920 Crimea evacuation—and allowed her to trace her family's resilience back to an 18-month survival journey on a refugee ship. Beyond exploring how understanding our ancestors' struggles solidifies our own modern identity, Tamara opens up about using old photographs, memorabilia, and family albums as powerful cognitive props to maintain meaningful, emotional connections with her father during his battle with dementia. Packed with inspiration, this conversation serves as a beautiful reminder of our modern tools to interview loved ones, bridge generations, and preserve the stories that define us. The latest Sea of Thieves update introduces Last Ship Standing, an intense six-Sloop battle royale mode in the Sea of the Damned featuring shrinking boundaries, custom arena environments, and placement-based Allegiance rewards. Alongside this major PvP addition, the developers have addressed player feedback by replacing the blinding red edge-of-map effects with a cleaner greyscale tint, doubling Reaper's Chest rewards to 20 Doubloons, and moving Duke and Larinna's markets back to a monthly restocking cadence to better match player earning rates. The patch also delivers essential game health improvements, resolving item desynchronization bugs in supply barrels and officially clearing out a glitch that accidentally spawned a prototype "Silence Ball" cursed cannonball across the outpost islands. As admirers of "working actors" who bring their experience to each new assignment, Leonard and Jessie are pleased to share their chat with John Pyper-Ferguson, who is now on theater screens in Casa Grande, a feature based on a popular miniseries starring Lou Diamond Phillips. Jon has made a vivid impression in shows like The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. and Suits as well as features including Unforgiven, where he was directed by Clint Eastwood. You've seen him in Agents of SHIELD, The 100, and The Last Ship. Now meet the man who fills those roles so well.
As Season 19 enters its final act, Sea of Thieves players are preparing for the May 14th launch of Last Ship Standing, a high-stakes Sloop battle royale that pits up to six crews against each other in the Sea of the Damned for increased Allegiance rewards. However, the excitement for this event is currently being overshadowed by a heated debate within the community regarding a massive overhaul of the Season Pass scheduled for Season 20. Rare plans to condense progression from 100 levels down to 50 "meaningful" stages and shift Renown earning away from passive activities like sailing toward more deliberate actions like completing voyages. While the developers argue this adds value and clarity, many veteran players in the Insider forums have labeled the changes as "anti-consumer," citing the removal of free-earnable Ancient Coins and the introduction of purchasable level skips as a move toward more predatory monetization. Amidst this controversy, pirates can still look forward to lighter content, such as the ‘Soulflame Captain' soundtrack release and a new batch of Twitch Drops starting May 15th, featuring the Amethyst Mercenary set and the Graveyard Gladiator Figurehead. The rock musician Sting talks with Mark Phillips about his stage musical, "The Last Ship", in which he stars, and which is being performed on a global tour. He calls the show an elegy for what Newcastle and its people represented to him growing up. He also discusses why, for him, uncertainty is a key component of art; why performing "Roxanne" today is never tiresome; and why, for him, music is a church. In Episode 474 of Hidden Forces, Demetri Kofinas speaks with commodity economist and energy market analyst Rory Johnston — founder of CommodityContext.com and host of the Oil Ground Up Podcast — about the mechanics and cascading consequences of the Strait of Hormuz closure, now entering its second month, and what the two most plausible resolution scenarios mean for energy prices, regional security, and the global economy. Recorded as part of an ongoing short-form series tracking the US and Israeli military campaign against Iran, the episode examines why the full physical impact of the supply disruption is only now reaching end markets across Asia, Europe, and North America, how the oil market is fracturing across both time and space, and why middle distillates — things like diesel and jet fuel — have become the epicenter of the crisis. Rory and Demetri also discuss how importing nations and companies are responding through emergency reserve releases, demand rationing, and accelerated behavioral changes. The conversation then turns to the long-term structural consequences of the shock — what it means for electrification and alternative energy adoption in Asia, for strategic stockpiling and supply chain resilience, and for non-OPEC production capacity across the US shale patch, Guyana, Canada, Brazil, and Argentina. They close by examining the geopolitical dimensions of the crisis, including the role of the Houthis, the risk of a secondary closure of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and the possibility that Trump — having set off an open-ended conflict — may ultimately abandon long-standing US security commitments to the Gulf States, leaving the region in chaos. Book your Free Call https://howwegothere.ca/roadmap/ and we can help build a strategy that works for you.In this episode, Brian sits down with Tamara Buzina-Adams, author of The Last Ship to Freedom, to discuss the captivating journey of uncovering her family's escape from post-imperial Russia. Tamara shares how her genealogical journey began unexpectedly while researching her husband's Polish ancestry, eventually leading her back to five long-forgotten diaries written by her grandmother starting at age eleven. These diaries, written in beautiful pre-revolutionary Russian cursive, detail a harrowing yet vibrant 18-month period spent living aboard a ship during the chaotic Crimean evacuation of 1920.Throughout the conversation, Tamara highlights the "detective work" required to piece together a historical narrative when traditional records seem out of reach. She describes utilizing a diverse toolkit—from collaborating with fluent family members for translations to using Google Translate and connecting with distant relatives who possessed matching photographs of the very ship her grandmother lived on. By matching family stories of horses in the Black Sea with historical events like the evacuation at Novorossiysk, Tamara demonstrates how understanding the broader political and historical context can breathe life into the "dash" between an ancestor's birth and death dates. How to Find Tamara Buzyna AdamsLast Ship to Freedom is on Amazon: https://amzn.to/45QcsKwWebsite: https://www.tamarabuzynaadams.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_tamara_adams/ How We Got Here: Genealogy is hosted by family historian Brian Nash. Roundtable Excerpt with Eric Dane In this excerpt from a roundtable I covered, we hear from actor Eric Dane, whose career spanned television and film with memorable roles in Charmed, Grey's Anatomy, X-Men: The Last Stand, Marley & Me, Valentine's Day, Burlesque, and Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Born in San Francisco, Dane's early life as a high school water polo athlete took a dramatic turn after performing in All My Sons, sparking his passion for acting. He moved to Los Angeles in 1993, where small roles sustained him until his first film appearance in The Basket. In 2012, he took command of the USS Nathan James as Captain Tom Chandler in The Last Ship, a role that brought us together for this roundtable conversation. Dane was candid, thoughtful, and engaging—a presence that left a lasting impression. Beyond the screen, Dane's life was marked by personal challenges. He married actor Rebecca Gayheart and together they raised two daughters. He faced depression and a dependency on prescription drugs, and was later diagnosed with ALS, the same disease that afflicted baseball legend Lou Gehrig. As the illness progressed, Dane lost the use of his right arm and by October 2025, was in a wheelchair. He passed away on February 19, 2025, at the age of 53. This excerpt captures a moment of connection with a man whose talent and humanity touched many. I encourage listeners to support the ALS Foundation in his memory. Though I met him only once, Eric Dane's warmth and candor made a lasting impact. I send heartfelt wishes to his family and loved ones. Listen in and remember the legacy of Eric Dane.

In Part 3 of Episode 256 of the Mike Drop Podcast, hosted by Mike Ritland, Navy SEAL veteran Kevin Kent continues his unfiltered recounting of high-stakes operations and his unexpected transition into Hollywood. This segment dives into the gritty details of Iraq deployments, from textbook raids gone awry—like hitting the wrong house marked by a faulty blue chem light—to intense firefights in Abu Bali, where Kevin unloads 400 rounds from a 46 gun in a chaotic ambush. He shares vivid stories of hauling bodies wrapped in carpets, mistakenly crossing into Syria, and a surreal encounter with Iranian soldiers on a river op in Basra. The episode also explores Kevin's post-military career, sparked by his twins' acting gigs, leading to technical advising on major films like Transformers and The Last Ship under mentor Harry Humphries. From navigating Hollywood's feast-or-famine nature to launching the Liberty Risk podcast with fellow veterans, Kevin's journey highlights the camaraderie, chaos, and adaptability of a SEAL turned storyteller. A native of Wroclaw, Poland, Martin started his career as an international sportswriter, broadcaster and author, spending two decades covering NBA games and publishing two acclaimed books on basketball. It was during this time that he met the late Kobe Bryant, who encouraged him to follow his passion for performance. Inspired by that advice, and an obsession with classic films, James Bond thrillers, and the work of Robert De Niro, Martin began training as an actor in his 30s, studying intensively at the Stella Adler Theater and the Beverly Hills Playhouse. He officially made the leap to full-time acting in his early 40s and quickly built an impressive resume, appearing in hit series like Stranger Things (Netflix), The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon), Better Call Saul (AMC), and Young Sheldon (CBS). His film credits include James Gunn's reboot of Superman, Amsterdam, The Gray Man, The Hunt, and Red Notice, where he played a prison tower sharpshooter. He's also recognized for his villainous turn as Lt. Nikolai Zybulski in TNT's post-apocalyptic series The Last Ship. In addition to his on-camera work, Martin does significant voice work for computer and video games, most notably as fan-favorite “Krueger” in the Call of Duty video game franchise. A lifelong rock music fan, he once fronted a heavy metal band in Poland called Army of Darkness. He's also an avid art collector, with a particular interest in South American contemporary art and 18th-century English portraiture. want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)
Award-winning and prolific Broadway producer Jeffrey Seller has finally made it to the podcast! Jeffery has produced Rent, Avenue Q, In the Heights, Hamilton, The Cher Show, and revivals of West Side Story and Sweeney Todd, just to name a few. Altogether his shows (currently) have 22 Tony Awards, and he's the only Broadway producer to have put up two Pulitzer Prize winning musicals: Hamilton and Rent. Jeffrey is the author of Theater Kid: A Broadway Memoir, which the New York Times describes as “a combination coming-of-age and rags-to-riches story that is unsparing in its description of his colorfully challenged-and-challenging father, unabashed in its description of his sexual awakening, and packed with behind-the-scenes detail, especially about the birth of Rent.” Not to mention the audiobook is voiced by a stellar cast of Broadway voices, and talking about them gives Jeffrey an idea *in real time *during our recording. In our hour-long conversation, Jeffrey expands on his experience producing Rent with Jonathan Larson, including an emotional retelling of what it was like working on the show after Jonathan's tragic and unexpected death. He also discusses working with Lin-Manuel Miranda on In the Heights and Hamilton, expounds on Hamilton's social and political responsibilities (rejecting the current administration's hostile takeover of The Kennedy Center, for example), discusses ways around Broadway's current ticket prices, and candidly opens up about Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party and The Last Ship with Sting in never-before-heard specificity. Plus, Baz Luhrmann's La Boheme, the power of writing a letter to get what you want, and how when it comes down to it... it's all about making shows with your friends. For a 30-year period, from the 1880s to World War I, 2.5 million Jews, fleeing discrimination and violence in their homelands of Eastern Europe, arrived in the United States. Many sailed on steamships from Hamburg. This mass exodus was facilitated by three businessmen whose involvement in the Jewish-American narrative has been largely forgotten: Jacob Schiff, the managing partner of the investment bank Kuhn, Loeb & Company, who used his immense wealth to help Jews to leave Europe; Albert Ballin, managing director of the Hamburg-American Line, who created a transportation network of trains and steamships to carry them across continents and an ocean; and J. P. Morgan, mastermind of the International Mercantile Marine (I.M.M.) trust, who tried to monopolize the lucrative steamship business. Though their goals were often contradictory, together they made possible a migration that spared millions from persecution.Today's guest is Steven Ujifusa, author of “The Last Ships From Hamburg: Business, Rivalry, and The Race to Save Russia's Jews on the Eve of World War I.” His great-grandparents were part of this immigrant group, and he describes how they moved from the shtetls of Russia and the ports of Hamburg to the mansions of New York's Upper East Side. We explore how debates on immigration have changed from the 1880s to today, and what it takes for the interests of billionaires and the interests of society's poorest members to align. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3101278/advertisement
