Salted caramel spent roughly 50 years travelling from a Parisian chocolatier to a British supermarket staple. Nduja took a decade. Kimchi felt like an overnight success, but it wasn't. So when a flavour trend lands on a developer's radar, how do you know whether you're early, right on time, or already too late? The answer, our expert panel suggests, is rarely found in data alone. It lives in the gap between what a trend tracker can tell you and what a developer's gut tells them. And knowing how to triangulate the two is one of the most underrated skills in food innovation. In this episode of the Food Matters Live podcast, recorded at our London Olympia event, we explore how both a major retailer and a multi-brand manufacturer approach the now, next and future framework for flavour trend tracking. Our panel debates the cuisines that have genuinely crossed over and the ones that are still waiting. And they dig into the tension between authenticity and accessibility, the power of the silent ingredient, and why calling something a tortilla instead of a Spanish omelette can be the difference between a product that flies and one that sits.If this has whet your appetite for next year's Food Matters Live events - you can already register your interest to partner with us in London and Rotterdam. MARK 9:49-50 49 Everyone will be salted with fire. 50 Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other." NIV 84 LESSON NOTES "Everyone will be salted with fire" (v. 49) isn't a threat about hell — it's an honest statement about a broken world. Trouble touches every person regardless of wealth, faith, or character. Jesus doesn't promise His disciples an exemption from pain; He promises to be with them in it. The phrase "salted with fire" echoes the Old Testament practice of adding salt to sacrifices to purify them (Leviticus 2:13). Jesus invites His disciples to see their trials the same way — not as pointless, but as a purifying process that can produce perseverance, endurance, and Christlike character. Salt itself doesn't naturally lose its saltiness — but salt mined in Palestine was often mixed with gypsum, making it useless. Jesus uses this image to warn against a discipleship that has been mixed with something else.  Being "in the world but not of it" means disciples still live fully in the world — but their loyalty belongs entirely to Christ, not split between Him and the world's values. Jesus said we cannot serve two masters; salt that's mixed with impurity is useless. In the ancient Middle East, sharing a salted meal was a sign of friendship and covenant. Coming right after the disciples argued over who was greatest, Jesus' command to "share salt" is a call to unity. Few things damage the church's witness more than believers fighting each other. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Icebreaker - what are your top three favorite spices/seasonings? What food item is it essential for you to add salt?    2. Looking back at a past trial, what specific character traits (such as endurance, compassion, or reliance) did God produce in you that could only have been formed through that fire? 3. "Saltless salt" comes from mixing pure salt with something impure until it can't be separated again. What are some subtle ways our devotion to Jesus gets "mixed" with other loyalties — money, comfort, approval, politics — without us noticing? 4. Jesus links our unity directly to our witness (John 13:34-35). Is there a relationship — where you need to "share salt" and pursue peace? What's one step you could take this week? 5. Of the three salt teachings - Salted with fire, Saltless salt, Share salt - Which one speaks most directly to your current season of life, and what is one practical step God may be asking you to take this week?

From Burnout to Balance: How God Restores What We Surrender with Vivian Cumins!

Friend, if you've been feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or like you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, this conversation is for you! We're wrapping up a special week on the Anchored by the Sword Podcast! Earlier this week, I had the privilege of talking with Stephanie Esposito, co-host of Salted on Abundant TV, and today I'm joined by her co-host, Vivian Cumins. I love that each one shares a unique story of God's faithfulness and restoration.Vivian's story is one that so many of us will relate to. For years, she believed perfection was the goal. She excelled in her career, poured herself into ministry, and gave everything she had to everyone around her. But underneath all the accomplishments was a woman who was physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually exhausted.Eventually, everything came crashing down. Vivian shares the moment she found herself lying on her living room floor, completely depleted, crying out to God because she simply couldn't keep going. And that's where everything began to change. In the middle of her darkest season, God whispered words that would become the foundation of her healing:"Hold on. I will restore you."Through surrender, a wilderness season, and even a battle with melanoma, Vivian discovered that restoration isn't about going back to who we used to be. It's about becoming who God originally created us to be.We also talk about her two books, Break Down Better and A Better Way, where she encourages burned-out women to slow down, heal from the inside out, and rediscover God's design for balanced living.Vivian's reminder that God never intended for us to strive ourselves into sickness. He created us for relationship, not relentless performance.Friend, if you're running on empty today, hear this:You don't have to earn your rest.God is inviting you into it.If you've ever struggled with perfectionism, burnout, anxiety, overcommitting, or believing your worth is tied to your productivity, I pray this episode reminds you that God never asked you to carry it all.Bio:A small-town girl from Chickasha, Oklahoma, Vivian Cumins is the author of Break Down Better: 52 Restoring Devotionals for Burned-Out Women, and A Better Way! The Break Down Better Guided Journal, co-host of Salted, the hottest new women's television talk show on Abundant TV, and the host of the Juggling Life, Finding Balance Podcast. A retired career professional with over 26 years of service in the United States Air Force and Forest Service, Vivian draws from a wealth of experience and a heart for helping others find peace amid life's demands.Vivian knows first-hand the challenges women face while juggling multiple personal and professional responsibilities. Having walked through her own season of burnout and breakdown, she now shares how partnering with God can bring calm, strength, and joy. With authenticity, warmth, and wisdom, Vivian equips women to honor God, care for themselves, and live a joyful, balanced life.Vivian is married to her best friend, Eddy, and is the proud bonus mom to two adult children and a “Glammy” to five grandchildren.Anchor Verses:1 Peter 5:10Jeremiah 29:11Isaiah 43:19Connect with Vivian:Website: https://viviancumins.comIG: https://www.instagram.com/viviancuminsFB: https://www.facebook.com/share/1JGhJF3DGX/?mibextid=wwXIfr***We love hearing from you! In this episode of The Spiritual Cupcake Podcast, Candace shares a memorable conversation from a recent publishing conference that sparked a powerful reflection on advice, wisdom, and self-trust. When someone tells us what not to do, they're often sharing lessons learned through trial, error, heartache, and hard-earned experience. There can be tremendous value in listening to those stories and considering the paths that others have already traveled. But when it comes to being told exactly what to do, things get a little more complicated. What worked beautifully for one person may not be the right fit for another. We each carry different dreams, values, experiences, and callings. Advice can offer perspective, inspiration, and possibilities—but it shouldn't replace our own intuition. Candace explores the balance between remaining open to the wisdom of others while honoring the inner voice that knows what is best for us. Because sometimes the greatest lesson isn't following someone else's map—it's learning to trust your own compass.

Friend, this week is a special week on the Anchored by the Sword Podcast! Not only am I joined by Stephanie Esposito, author, speaker, military wife, and host of the #1-rated Abundant TV show Salted, but this is also the first of two incredible Abundant TV hosts you'll hear from this week. Stephanie joins me today, and be sure to come back Friday for another inspiring conversation with a fellow Abundant TV host.In this powerful episode, Stephanie shares her personal freedom story—one that began in a hospital room when her young son was facing a life-threatening illness. After weeks of unanswered questions, Stephanie found herself crying out to God and standing on His promises like never before. What happened next changed not only her son's story but her understanding of faith, healing, and God's faithfulness forever. Stephanie shares how she learned that God's promises are not just for "other people." They're for His children.Together, we talk about what it means to trust God when life doesn't make sense, how disappointment can sometimes keep us from seeing God's hand at work, and why it's so important to anchor ourselves in Scripture instead of our emotions. We also discuss her journey from television news to ministry, her book The Covering: Spiritual First Aid for Families, and the incredible success of her Abundant TV show, Salted, which is creating space for authentic conversations about faith, mental health, relationships, purpose, and the issues Christian women are navigating every day.One of my favorite moments from this conversation was when Stephanie reminded us that sometimes God answers our prayers in ways we never expected. We can become so focused on what we think the answer should look like that we miss the miracle standing right in front of us.God cannot lie. His promises are still true, and His faithfulness is still your anchor. If you've ever struggled with disappointment, fear, anxiety, unanswered prayers, or wondering if God's promises really apply to you, this conversation will encourage your heart. Bio:Stephanie Esposito is an author, speaker, military wife, mom of three and a Boston Terrier, and host of Salted, the #1-rated show on Abundant TV.She loves people and has always wanted to be a voice for the underdog. She has had that opportunity both as a journalist and then in conventional ministry. She has over 15 years of experience in leadership, building teams, leading people and communications. She is also the author of The Covering: Spiritual First Aid for Families, a resource designed to help families stand on God's Word during life's most challenging moments. She loves working out, cheering on the Phillies and Eagles, and eating pizza. Anchor Verses:Jeremiah 29:11Hebrews 6:17-19Connect with Stephanie:Website: https://www.stephanieesposito.comFB: https://www.facebook.com/share/1D62z9dQUj/?mibextid=wwXIfrIG: https://www.instagram.com/stephanie.esposito***We love hearing from you! Pastor Jon Verwey 42 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea. 43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. [44] 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. [46] 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, 48 where “ ‘the worms that eat them do not die, and the fire is not quenched.' 49 Everyone will be salted with fire. 50 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.” — Mark 9:42–50 NIV Does what I am doing move me toward Jesus or away from Him? Does what I am doing make me more like Jesus or less? Everyone will be salted with fire. v. 49 Being “salted with fire” happens when we offer ourselves to Jesus by submitting to Him and His ways. Then the trials of life become a fire that strengthens, purifies, and preserves us instead of destroying us. …let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves. — Galatians 5:16 NLT But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. — Galatians 5:22–23 NLT Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other. v. 50b And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another…— Hebrews 10:25 NLT “The Church is the Church only when it exists for others.” — Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? v. 50a Don't manage sin—fight it, so that we can be a purified people who bring the life-giving presence of Jesus to the world.

Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.” — Mark 9:42–50 NIV If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble… v. 42 …encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. — Hebrews 3:13 NIV theft, hatred, jealousy, envy, sexual immorality, witchcraft, greed, murder, rage, selfish ambition, causing division, lying, drunkenness, orgies, slander, gossip, arrogance and boastfulness, lack of mercy, obscenity and filthy speech… Does what I am doing move me toward Jesus or away from Him? Does what I am doing make me more like Jesus or less? “All sin leads to spiritual ruin and death — and that drastic measures are necessary to fight it.” We can't just do sin management; we need to fight it aggressively. Everyone will be salted with fire. v. 49 …let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? v. 50a Don't manage sin—fight it, so we can be a purified people who bring the life-giving presence of Jesus to the world. How do we fight sin instead of managing it? We start with questions Does what I am doing move me toward Jesus or away from Him? Does what I am doing make me more like Jesus or less? We offer ourselves to Jesus every day. We submit to His authority. We walk in step with the Holy Spirit. Why do we fight sin instead of managing it? So we become “salty” So our lives make people thirsty for Jesus. So our homes, our tables, and our relationships reflect His love and peace.
