(23:28) Karen shared a story of her friend falling out of a moving car. Chaz and AJ couldn't help but notice a recurring theme to the event, which was alcohol. In 1946, as part of a strike-ending agreement negotiated between the Department of the Interior and the United Mine Workers of America, photographer Russell Lee went into coal communities located in remote areas across the United States, documenting miners in 13 states. Photographs from this federal project have rarely been studied or exhibited—until now. "Power & Light: Russell Lee's Coal Survey" is on view now at the National Archives here in Washington, DC. On Friday, I toured the exhibit with photojournalist Earl Dotter, known as the “American Worker's Poet Laureate,” and sat down with him afterwards to get his thoughts and reflections. Later in the show, the R.J. Phillips Band pays tribute to another great social photographer, Jacob Riis, born on May 3, 1849. On this week's Labor History in Two: The Battle of Harlan. We're in the business of creating memories that last a lifetime. While that's a nice, feel-good statement, it's also the attractions industry's business model. Once a guest leaves an attraction, their biggest takeaway is the memory of their experience, and our goal is to turn that memory into action: planning to visit again and influencing others to visit as well. And one of the best ways to solidify a memory is by capturing photos and/or videos of your guests. It may seem like a simple act of courtesy, but in this “minisode,” Matt recalls moments from his recent trip to Iceland where he offered to take photos of other tourists, which sparked memories for him from doing the same thing for guests while working in theme parks. Offering to take a photo initiates an interaction, which allows for personalization, and therefore creates a moment that is greater than the photo itself. Matt and Josh break down the benefits of capturing photos and videos of guests, and how they enhance the guest experience. The first is the photo itself, which, when taken by an employee, allows for the full group to be present and creates a higher-quality photo than a selfie. It also allows the employee to use their proficiency of their surrounding area, which is exemplified by Josh sharing how he took photos of guests during the fireworks in the Magic Kingdom when he worked in Tomorrowland. It also allows for the team member to build rapport with guests, learn about where they're visiting from, and exceed the guests' expectations, even if only by a small amount. We want to hear from you! What seemingly small interactions can you have with your guests that have a large impact? Let us know by chiming in on LinkedIn, X, Facebook, or Instagram. By the way, when taking photos of guests with their smartphones, please a) focus the picture to ensure that their faces aren't blurry, and b) do not take 50 photos and hope that one of them comes out great. They're usually all garbage. Just take a few, and make them count. What do you think of this episode format? Let us know if you want us to produce more minisodes! What if you left the dating apps, dropped any expectations, and dared yourself to meet people face-to-face? Today, I sat down with Crystal, who recently completed the 17-day Do The Thing Dating Dare Challenge. After getting divorced a year ago and moving away from everyone she knew, her dating life was on a slow path to nowhere. And a couple of failed dating app matches were enough to remove herself from those platforms. Would our challenge help her build the muscle needed to let her guard down and be open to new possibilities? Here's why Crystal embraced the Do The Thing Dating Dare Challenge, what she learned along the way, and how she thinks we can make the next one and even better experience. Ep. 58: Howse & Hypocrisy talk the controversy around taking pictures with wrestling vets when you're a wrestler, is it acceptable or not?
This episode is for BOTH new and advanced photographers because so often I witness all types of photographers doing these 5 things and it drives me crazy. It's a privilege for photographers out there that there are a lot of public places that we are able to shoot at. Right? It's like our own outdoor studio that we don't have to pay rent on. BUT, because (most of the time) it's free for us to use these parks, and trails, and sidewalks as a backdrop for our wonderful photos there are things we MUST DO as photographers, whether you are hired by someone or just out there practicing with your new DSLR. Now to be fair, some of you might just not know ( or realize you're doing ) some of these things. And honestly, I may have been guilty of one or two of these things at some point. But now you'll know. Listen here! Reno's Victoria Scott, a scientist-turned-writer, is capturing some of Reno's skyline and signage in her photography. After a career as a software engineer working at NASA, Scott came out as a transgender woman during the pandemic. Scott found going back in person to the Houston office and explaining this unappealing. With a few years moonlighting as an automotive writer in her free time under her belt, Scott decided to try that route full-time. The remote nature of the new job meant that Scott could work anywhere in the country. A subsequent road trip across the nation, admiration for the desert and a friend renting out space left Scott with the impression that Reno was the place for her to move to. Listen to some of her journey which includes discovering Reno through her lens with reporter Jesse Stone.
At this week's Round Table, Kenisha, Kris, Madeline, and Skyla spoke with Cindy Trinh, creator of @activistnyc, a documentary photo project about activism and social justice movements in New York City. Cindy is a photographer, visual journalist and activist who is passionate about social justice and human rights. Their photography comes from a place of wanting to connect with people and places through the art of visual storytelling. Cindy's work has been published and featured extensively by popular media, and they have exhibited at numerous museums, galleries and art spaces throughout New York City. We spoke about growing up feeling and being different; the challenges of choosing creative careers in first gen immigrant families; the life of a lapsed lawyer—and how radicalizing law school can be!; the toxic illusion of the American Dream; and the restorative power of taking pictures and working at the intersection of photography, activism, and social change. Oh, and we also talked about how badly society is failing young people and the lost art of just having fun. We were INCREDIBLY inspired by Cindy and know you will be too. Thank you for listening! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nextgenpolitics/message

Some early red flags of narcissists and toxic people. Taking pictures really fast or lying early Welcome my channel! If this is your first time seeing my face or hearing my voice, my name is Lee and I am a self aware #narcissist. I have narcissistic personality disorder ( #NPD ) and I've been in therapy for my personality disorder since 2017 and it has definitely changed my life because without it, I would have lost everything. The point of these videos is to help bring awareness from the other side of the narcissistic *buse spectrum. All my videos give perspective on why many narcissists do what they do and the possible different reasons behind them. The victims and survivors get validation and the #Narcissists (those that are willing) get to see that you can get help and that you are not alone. 1 on 1's and all my links - https://beacons.page/mentalhealness You can find me on - Tiktok MentalHealness - https://www.tiktok.com/@mentalhealness?lang=en Insta- Mentalhealnesss - https://www.instagram.com/mentalhealnesss/?hl=en Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/MentalHealness85 Click the BEACON up top for direct links.
