The Avalanche are back at .500 thanks to a thrilling 3-2 win over the Predators on Monday night! Samuel Girard was the hero in overtime, Alexandar Georgiev played great and there's no longer much of a goalie controversy. Join Will and Mike now!

The Willie Jackerson experiment

The Colorado Avalanche have indeed showcased their dominance in the first round of the NHL playoffs. Led by a potent combination of offensive firepower and solid goaltending, they've been a force to reckon with. Let's break it down a bit: Offensive Prowess: The Avalanche boast one of the most dynamic offenses in the league, featuring stars like Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Valerie Nichushkin. Their ability to generate scoring chances and capitalize on them consistently puts immense pressure on opposing defenses. Depth: Beyond their top line, the Avalanche possess considerable depth throughout their lineup. Players like Walker Lehkonen and Wood provide secondary scoring options, making it difficult for opponents to focus solely on shutting down their top stars. Defense: While often overshadowed by their offensive firepower, the Avalanche's defensive corps is equally impressive. With standouts like Cale Makar, Devon Toews, and Samuel Girard, they excel at moving the puck up the ice and contributing offensively while maintaining solid defensive play. Goaltending: In net, goaltender Alexander Georgiev has been outstanding, providing a reliable last line of defense for the Avalanche. His consistent play between the pipes instills confidence in the team and allows them to play with aggression knowing they have a strong presence behind them. Overall, the Colorado Avalanche's stellar performance in the first round of the playoffs is a testament to their depth, skill, and ability to execute their game plan effectively. As they continue their postseason journey, they'll undoubtedly be a team to watch closely. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/willie-jackerson/message

With training camp starting on Thursday, now is a great time to start our player season previews, and who better to start with than one of the more polarizing players on the Colorado Avalanche than Samuel Girard. At this point we kind of feel like we know what we are going to get from Sammy G. His numbers could go up a tick, but don't expect that season that comes out of nowhere and leaves his career numbers in the dust. The one thing that will always be over his head is that cap number. He could potentially play on the 3rd line pairing and have a higher cap hit than the two players on the 2nd pairing. We also bring up Val Nichushkin who is back in Denver and expected to speak to the media for the first time since leaving the team during their first round playoff matchup with the Seattle Kraken. Should we expect any answers about exactly what happened? Don't count on it. We all know the Colorado Avalanche have a pretty thin prospect pool, but that doesn't mean they don't have guys they are anxiously waiting for to make their debut. Nikolai Kovalenko is easily their #1 prospect and word spread over the weekend that he is close to signing a deal with the Avs. Kovalenko would have to finish this season in the KHL, but would come to the Avs when that season is over, usually in March. Which will be a very interesting time of the season to join the squad. We discuss. We also put our guessing caps on and guess if we think four players, Samuel Girard, Devon Toews, Artturi Lehkonen and Val Nichushkin, will go over or under a specific number in points for this year. We should start by saying the Avalanche did the most important thing in Game 3 against the St. Louis Blues and that was win the game, giving them a 2-1 lead in the series and taking back home ice. Now that we have that out of the way Game 3 in all likelihood will be a tipping point in the series. Up until now both teams have been pretty much on their best behavior. But two plays in Game 3 speak to a different tone. The first was Samuel Girard getting checked hard into the boards by Ivan Barbashev. Girard immediately went down, did not return and we later found out he will be out the remainder of the year with a broken sternum. A little later, Nazem Kadri, going for a loose puck right in front of the net, collided with Blues defenseman Calle Rosen who was also trying to play the puck. The momentum of both players carried them into goalie Jordan Binnington who also left the game and did not return. We found out later Binnington will not be back for the remainder of this series. The talk on social media, because it's Nazem Kadri, is that the play on Binnington was deliberate and dirty. Why? Simply because he wears the name Kadri on his back. The Colorado Avalanche showed no rust as they took the ice for the first time in a week against the St. Louis Blues in Game 1 of their second round matchup.
