“Glassheart” is a modern-day reimagining of the well-known tale of Beauty and the Beast playing through February 23rd 2025 at CityLit Theater on Chicago's northside near Bryn Mawr and Sheridan Road. What are you willing to sacrifice to be the light in someone else's life? Are you able to look past the superficial and artificial barriers that cause us to disregard and reject those who may be deserving of affection?Review by Reno Lovison

It took Chet Griffith a few years after moving to Kenosha to finally explore the local art scene, and when he finally did, it rekindled the love of art that had lay dormant. He picked up his pencils again and became a member of Lemon Street Gallery and ArtSpace. A few years later, his skills at framing helped him launch his own art supply and framing store – ArtWorks. We preview Sunday evening's Sing Along Messiah at Kenosha's First United Methodist Church (at the corner of Sheridan Road and 60th Street) - a much loved event that is back for the first time since 2019. In Part One, I speak with Jessica DeBoer, who coordinates the event. In Part Two, we share an archival interview from 2007 featuring choral legend Weston Noble, who conducted the choruses in that year's performance - as well as Trevor Parker, a Carthage graduate who was that year's tenor soloist - discussing the work.

The podcast is back, and we've got a winner! Editor Neal Pollack welcomes Stephen Garrett to argue with him about Jordan Peele's Nope. As a loser in the Hollywood wars, Pollack likes Nope's central theme of Hollywood chewing up and spitting out talent. Stephen thinks the movie is all over the place and is too clever for its own good. However, they both love the “Gordy's Home” scenes and wonder if that should have been the whole movie.Omar Gallaga returns to our stages to talk to Neal about Nathan Fielder's ‘The Rehearsal‘ on HBO Max. Nathan sets up various absurd simulations to help people prepare for difficult life simulations. Omar seems to like it though he's not sure what Nathan is really up to. It's dark and weird and very meta. And Neal's conversation with Omar is just a rehearsal for the actual conversation. Then Daniel Cohen comes by to talk with Neal about Hulu's ‘The Bear,' the most realistic depiction of restaurant life ever put to film. Neal also admires the realistic way The Bear depicts Chicago. It's like going to see community theater on Sheridan Road on a Friday night. Great performances from the whole cast, especially Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. After some questioning by Daniel, Neal determines that he wants his Italian beef hot and dipped. It's the only way to go. And this is the only entertainment podcast you need all week!

The first 2019-20 Parent Ed speaker was Sheridan Road alumna and Harvard professor Sr. Nancy Kehoe, RSCJ, PhD. She spoke to our Middle School students about antidotes to stress and anxiety and with parents about ways to help minimize stress in children's lives. Sr. Kehoe graduated from the Academy in 1955 and in 1956 entered the Society of the Sacred Heart. After teaching for 10 years at both Woodlands and the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Cincinnati, she went to Boston to study for her doctorate in psychology. She did a postdoctoral internship at one of Harvard's teaching hospitals and then had a private practice for 23 years. She currently is a part-time Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
Elizabeth Connelly, the 2019 Sr. Carol A. Haggarty, RSCJ ASH'59 Leadership Award winner is our next podcast guest. As part of a Sacred Heart legacy family and parent of four Sheridan Road alumni (A'08, H'10, H'13, A'18), Mrs. Connelly has been an integral part of the school for almost 20 years. Whether as a classroom volunteer, committee member, or chair of both the Board of Trustees and Masterpiece Campaign, Mrs. Connelly has devoted her time and talent to Sheridan Road.
Our first episode of the season features Anthony Nichols H'54, the 2019 Seiker Award winner, and his daughter, Paula Bork ASH'93. As a Hardey alumnus, proud parent, and grandparent to current students, Mr. Nichols addresses what Sacred Heart-Sheridan Road was like 70 years ago and how the school has changed and remains the same. Ms. Bork talks about how her father's pride in his own school affected her upbringing, her attendance at Sacred Heart's high school, and why she sent her own children to Sheridan Road.
What could be more fitting than to end the academic year with a podcast featuring four of our Sacred Heart graduates from the Class of 2019? Sitting down to talk on the The Heart of Sheridan Road, were Academy students Luka Dalecki and Alex Kerr as well as Hardey students Teddy Braman and Will Farrell. The conversation was wide-ranging and covered several topics—from the students' experience of single-gender classrooms and which Goal has had a special meaning for them, to choosing a good high school and what they will miss most about Sacred Heart. They even shared some wise advice geared to younger siblings, students in other grades, and parents.
We were lucky enough to have Sr. Suzanne Cooke, RSCJ as our latest guest on The Heart of Sheridan Road! Listen now to hear Sr. Cooke, RSCJ discuss the Sacred Heart education, her own upbringing in a Sacred Heart school and her thoughts on Sheridan Road.
We are thrilled to talk about one of the most significant things to happen at Sacred Heart on Sheridan Road. We are bringing Sacred Heart education to 3- and 4-year old students in Fall 2019. In this podcast, educators discuss their passion for education and how they will creatively brighten the hearts and minds of children in the Sacred Heart tradition.
Lori Mabee of Restoration, a home accent store at the Studios on Sheridan, 929 N. Sheridan Road, is an organizer of the popular First Friday and Spring Market events. She chats with the Journal Star's Steve Tarter about the weekend events, running a small local business and life on Main Street Peoria.
This week, Daily reporters interviewed students on Sheridan Road about their Spring Break trips and heard from both Associated Student Government campaigns about their platforms and why they are choosing to run.
