In this episode of Next Steps 4 Seniors, host Wendy Jones and Dr. Danny Seidman, DO MPH discuss the importance of making informed food choices, the obesity epidemic, and the significance of preventative screenings as we age. Dr. Seidman shares practical tips for interpreting food labels, the benefits of organic foods, and the necessity of maintaining a strong relationship with healthcare providers to ensure a healthy aging process. Eating food without labels is a great way to go. Preparing food at home is healthier than eating out. Good food goes bad; avoid ultra-processed products. Organic food is preferable when financially feasible. Education on food choices is crucial for health. Half of adults are overweight or obese in the U.S. Maintaining healthy blood vessels can decrease dementia risk. Preventative screenings remain important as we age. An active relationship with a primary care physician is vital. Discussing health concerns with family can aid in care. ☎️ Got questions? Through personal experience Kathy Mendham discovered the significant, challenging, shortcomings of acute-focused seniors care and restricted information exchange.  So she did something about it … a service to fill the gaps and deliver cost effective, customized care specific to the individual needs of every client.   The team at Proactive Seniors propose and recommended a collage of free and for-fee services, and provide information specifically identified for the individual health, wellness and assistance needs, preferences and ability of each individual senior.  The multi-disciplinary team helps families to achieve their individual goals, manage risks, provide personal assistance and enable their clients to thrive.Kathy's most important advice – plan lifelong health and wellness in a similar way to financial or retirement planning. Give yourself enough time; the earlier the better!Tune in to hear about: Four factors thriving seniors consider in wellness plans for quality of life. Timely appropriate information improves health and wellness. The tangible family cost of not having it. This episode of the ESCN podcast features an insightful conversation with senior healthcare leaders to discuss an initiative aimed to optimizing transfers from Long-term Care Facilities to an Emergency Department. The ESCN is partnering with Seniors Health, RAAPID, Community Paramedicine, and Long-term Care (LTC) Facilities. The solution is a centralized and standardized LTC-ED care and referral pathway for LTC facilities considering transfer to ED. In conjunction with the implementation of this new pathway, targeted INTERACT® (Interventions to Reduce Acute Care Transfers) tools will be implemented within LTC. This new standardized LTC-ED care and referral pathway will help to better optimize use of both the emergency department and the community paramedicine program, in a way that is patient-centered. Studies have shown that the provision of community paramedicine within LTC can significantly reduce transfers to emergency. This initiative will be implemented within 36 LTC facilities in the Calgary Zone between August 2019 and March 2022. If the evaluation of this change demonstrates improvements to both LTC residents and the health care system outcomes, it will be spread to other zones within the province, starting with the Central zone. Participants Host: Andrea Golding, Senior Project Manager, AHS Emergency Strategic Clinical Network Guests: • Dr. Jayna Holroyd-Leduc, U of Calgary Geriatric Medicine Division Head within the Department of Medicine, and Medical Director of Specialized Geriatric Services in AHS Calgary zone • Dr. Eddy Lang, Scientific Director of the AHS Emergency Strategic Clinical Network and U of Calgary Head of the Department of Emergency Medicine • Dr. Vivian Ewa, U of Calgary Section Chief of Seniors Care within the Department of Family Medicine, and Medical Director of Integrated Seniors and Facility Living in AHS Calgary zone

So obviously I wanted to do this closer to say, June versus it now being the cusp of August. Maybe not so obvious, but I really wanted to! Main inspo being my mom taking Dad to the hospital and today not being a day they had a check up. Me throwing out kabocha I think tasted off because of my own human error in prep. A charge on the one card I have that is pending but shouldn't even be pending in the first place because it should have not even been authorized. Finances: pretty rad. Supporting my artist friends and fandoms monthly even if it is tiny amounts. I believe in sustainable support. I spend up to 150 in groceries a month (up to), I can support people I believe in monthly for a few bucks. Mentally in a good place. Seeing my parents and trying to find support groups for mobility and senior care on facebook of all places because reddit has nothing for this. Streaming more on twitch and hoping to meet requirements for partner. Hoping everyone finds sustainable habits to prolong the best quality of life for themselves. We all age. But we can try to live our best lives for as long as possible. Health is so important. Mental, physical, all of it. I hope we all do what we can to adjust to life changes and have the best quality of life. Cheers everybody! I'll see you next time!

Hosts Anna and Mirella provide a brief introduction, origin and motivation for their Blooming Boomers podcast. They discuss the format of the podcast episodes (sharing their personal views, invited guests, "On the Street" ), the wide range of topics they will cover during the 1-2 on average episodes per month.  In each episode they draw from their own authenticity and truth as they continue to remain curious, and learn and grow in these stages of one's life. Join them in this journey. The ultimate goal is to start conversations, to inspire, even to provoke, and, above all, to understand and evolve what it means to be a senior today -  someone 50ish and up and up -  in the blooming and booming autumn and winter stages of one's life.
