The day my DEXA scan results revealed osteoporosis was a wake-up call I dreaded. No symptoms. No warning signs. Just a family history of poor bone health. The casual “take medication and see you in two years" was a no-go for me. Like so many women in midlife, I knew there had to be another way.In this episode, I share my personal journey of reversing bone loss and improving my DEXA scan results—without relying solely on pharmaceuticals. If you are being presented with an option of drug therapy, please have the conversation with your doctor about what steps are best based on the severity of your disease. From strength training with proper form and lifting heavier weights, to increasing protein to 110–120 grams daily, optimizing supplements like vitamin D3, K2, calcium, magnesium, and collagen, and making lifestyle shifts around alcohol, sleep, hormones, and daily sunshine—this holistic approach has transformed my health in many ways. You'll learn:Why osteoporosis is called the “silent disease” (and how to catch it early)The nutrition, supplements, and workouts that actually support bone densityHow lifestyle choices—sleep, stress, and hormones—affect bone remodelingThe real results from my follow-up DEXA scanIf you're a midlife woman worried about osteoporosis, fractures, or staying strong and independent as you age, this episode will give you practical strategies and hope. With nearly 20 years of experience in healthcare administration, Brian offers valuable insight into aging, long-term care, and how families can support loved ones in staying at home safely and comfortably. As financial advisors, we understand that one of the biggest threats to a retirement plan is the rising cost of long-term care. Brian's work directly supports families in managing that risk — not just financially, but emotionally and practically — by helping seniors age in place with dignity and independence. His organization focuses on helping clients age in place by providing non-medical home care services, including assistance with daily activities, transportation, and companionship. They are dedicated to improving the quality of life for aging adults while also being a trusted resource for families navigating the challenges of caregiving. Equally important is the financial side of care — knowing how to plan for it and how to ensure your loved ones are protected. It all starts with a conversation. In this episode of The Aging Well Podcast, Dr. Jeff Armstrong and Corbin Bruton explore one of the most debated topics in modern nutrition: the role of fats in our health and longevity. From the controversy surrounding seed oils to the ongoing debate about saturated fat, this episode seeks to bring clarity to a conversation often clouded by conflicting advice and outdated dietary guidelines.Drawing on evidence from metabolic health research, historical dietary shifts, and real-world examples, Jeff and Corbin examine how different fats influence inflammation, heart health, and the aging process. With curiosity and a shared commitment to practical wellness, they ask the critical questions many listeners are wondering: Which fats support healthy aging—and which may be undermining it?If you've ever felt confused about what oils to cook with, how much saturated fat is too much, or whether "heart-healthy" really means healthy, this episode offers the context and clarity you need to make more informed, confident choices.Takeaways• Aging well is more about living better than living longer.• Seed oils have been vilified by social media influencers.• Inflammation is a complex issue influenced by diet.• Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for reducing inflammation.• The American diet is heavily reliant on processed foods.• Balancing omega-3 and omega-6 intake is crucial for health.• Cooking methods can significantly impact the healthiness of oils.• Quality of oils matters; not all oils are created equal. Please, support The Aging Well Podcast by hitting the ‘like' button, subscribing/following the podcast, sharing with a friend, and….BUY the products you need to… age well from our trusted affiliates and support the mission of The Aging Well Podcast*.The Aging Well Podcast merchandise | Show how you are aging well | Use the promo code AGING WELL for free shipping on orders over $75 | https://theagingwellpodcast-shop.fourthwall.com/promo/AGINGWELLRebalance Health | products created by hormone health experts to lower cortisol, improve sleep, and minimize the impact of stress on the body and mind | Use promo code AGINGWELL for 20% discount at https://rebalancehealth.comProlon | The Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD) is a revolutionary five-day nutrition program scientifically formulated to mimic the effects of a prolonged water fast while still allowing nourishment - supporting the benefits of fasting without the challenges and risks that come from water-only fasts. | For the best available discount always use this link: https://prolonlife.com/theagingwellpodcastL-Nutra Health | The medical division of L-Nutra, focused on helping people manage and potentially reverse chronic health conditions, like type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, insulin resistance, and obesity, using personalized, lifestyle-based programs grounded in evidence, not prescriptions. | Use this link: https://l-nutrahealth.com/theagingwellpodcastThrive25—Your personal longevity advisor | https://www.thrive25.com/early-access?via=william-jeffreyFusionary Formulas | Combining Ayurvedic wisdom with Western science for optimal health support. | 15% off Code: AGINGWELL | https://fusionaryformulas.com/Jigsaw Health | Trusted supplements. “It's fun to feel good.” | Click the following link for 10% off: https://www.jigsawhealth.com/?rfsn=8710089.1dddcf3&utm_source=refersion&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=8710089.1dddcf3Auro Wellness | Glutaryl—Antioxidant spray that delivers high doses of glutathione (“Master Antioxidant”) | 10% off Code: AGINGWELL at https://aurowellness.com/?ref=1957Dr Lewis Nutrition | Fight neurodegeneration and cognitive decline with Daily Brain Care by Dr Lewis Nutrition—a proven daily formula designed to protect and restore brain function. | 10% off code: AGINGWELL or use the link: https://drlewisnutrition.com/AGINGWELL*We receive commission on these purchases. Early Conversations and Legal Documents for Aging Parents: Jordan McIntyre emphasized the importance of discussing aging and estate planning early to ensure legal documents are in place. These crucial documents include powers of attorney and a will, which help manage assets outside of probate. Greg McIntyre highlighted the dangers of not having these documents, such as losing capacity and needing to go through guardianship proceedings to manage financial, legal, or healthcare matters.Protecting the Home and Tailored Planning: Jordan McIntyre suggested a "lady bird" deed as a simple and powerful way to protect a home. Greg McIntyre added that a trust could also protect the home and other financial assets, stressing that each family's situation, assets, and needs are unique, requiring an individualized plan. They mentioned that foundational documents like a general durable power of attorney, healthcare power of attorney, living will, and last will and testament are mandatory to avoid future complications and forced guardianships.Key Planning Tools and Consultations: Greg McIntyre further elaborated on essential planning tools, including deed protections like life estate deeds and ladybird deeds, as well as various trusts such as revocable living trusts and irrevocable trusts like Medicaid asset protection trusts. They concluded by offering consultations for families to create a tailored plan for their specific needs, which can be scheduled at mcelderlaw.com/scheduling
