Talk about rising through the ranks! Chief Deputy David Danzig is the number-two man at PCSO, second only to Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, and has done just about everything at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office (PCSO). Coming from a law enforcement family, he knew he wanted to be a cop practically since he was a baby. In fact, his reward for potty training was a ride in cruiser running lights and sirens. From his first arrest (charge: Cat Running at Large) to his first week as the new chief, he's never had a bad day at work. Despite the many challenges of law enforcement, he has always loved his job, whether he was working in the Marine unit where he saved lives with the right combination of “skillset and guts” or leading the Violent Crimes Task Force that reduced homicides and gun crimes in the county. It's a peculiarity of law enforcement that as you rise through the ranks, once you get comfortable somewhere they move you somewhere else. But Chief Danzig thrived wherever he went because of a collaborative leadership style and a willingness to learn. In this episode, we talk about Chief Danzig's career, and why he thinks the resiliency, strength, knowledge, and training of today's PCSO deputies makes them the greatest generation of law enforcement officers.Email us your questions and suggestions at lets56@pcsonet.comFollow PCSO: Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTubeFollow 56: InstagramPCSO Website

Welcome to Game Changers with Jeff Newkirk, where we speak with people who have done something to make this world a better place. It's simple: inspire, educate and let's go change this world! On today's episode, Jeff welcomes returning guest Mr. Larry Vaughn to discuss all things leadership. This is the very first episode of a series of 3 episodes that will feature conversations with Larry about topics such as collaboration, mentoring and more. Larry has been in the printing business for over 48 years, owned and operated a successful print company for 30 years, and helped found two premier international business cooperatives. He recently wrote and published his own personal memoir Business Cards and Shoe Leather. To begin, Larry shares about his struggles with dyslexia growing up during a time when most people didn't understand the condition. He was able to leverage technologies such as spell check and talk to text to write his book. Now, he has travelled the world giving talks about all of his accomplishments within the printing business. Larry details the vast amount of change the printing industry experienced over the course of his career thus far. His company was the first commercial printer in the state of Texas to purchase a digital printing press. First, Larry was invited to be part of HP's Digital Council Group. Then, HP invited him to help them spread the word about the new printing press and equipment. At the age of 22, Larry took his very first sales job, which helped prepare him for a life of future speaking. He quickly found that being kind, personable and helpful to potential customers would inevitably lead to success. He applied this philosophy to the way he treated his employees over the years. Jeff prides his company on their high retention rate among employees, something that is increasingly rare today. Your employees want to know that you care about them and about their lives. When they do feel cared for, they take pride and care in their work. Most importantly, this kindness and care has to come from a genuine place. Next, Larry offers his best advice for young people who want to be strong and effective leaders themselves. First, clearly communicate and articulate your expectations. It's also important to build trust among your team by delivering on the promises you make. Then, Larry identifies the leadership qualities that he believes are missing in today's environment. Leaders are not acknowledging that their hard working employees are the ones making their business possible. The most important thing we can do is educate young people to ensure that they are prepared to navigate the world professionally, socially, spiritually and financially. Learn more about Jeff Newkirk. Larry Vaughn, author of Business Cards and Shoe Leather: How Dyslexia Help Me Found One of the World's Premier Business Cooperatives, wrote a personal book about being dyslexic and thriving as an author, speaker, and businessman in spite of struggling with the disorder from a very young age. Vaughn started out selling print and because of his dyslexia, resorted to perfecting the art of storytelling. In order to be a good salesman, he says, all you need is “business cards and shoe leather. If you have good business cards and a good pair of shoes, you just hit the street and start selling.” With this book, Vaughn decided to share his own personal struggles to encourage other professionals with the same disability to take this perceived weakness and turn it into a strength. He adds, “Once you realize that, good things will come.” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

People can claim that they have faith until they are blue in the face, but if they don't have any works to back their claim up, it is just a bunch of hot air. Faith results in obedient action. The story of Naaman highlights the importance of being obedient to God.
We have come to associate the internet with narratives of appealing unpredictability. We have become accustomed to scanning for the next best thing, to expecting novelty at our fingertips. We are habituated to stories of people using computers to throw established authorities into disarray: stories of surprising computer-related business start-ups, from Apple and Microsoft around 1980 through Facebook and beyond; of peculiar digital inventions taking the world by storm; of internet use by political rebels from Howard Dean to the Tea Party to the Arab Spring; of disruptive events that throw entire industries into disarray, like college students downloading music or uploading videos. The habit of throwing money at internet-related businesses in rough proportion to their air of rebelliousness persists to some degree, even if dampened by memories of the stock collapses and scandals of the early 2000s. Novelty in the digital does not surprise us; it is an expectation – at the same time that we have nearly given up on the idea of change in other in other aspects of our lives (e.g., in dysfunctional politics, our dependence on the automobile, the persistence of poverty). The Net Effect (2011) attributed this pattern in part to an American tradition of reading experiences through a romantic individualist lens. Widespread interactive computing introduced common experiences to large swathes of the population: the compulsive draw that often comes with computer use, for example, or the repeated wonder of plugging in a new gizmo that a short time ago would have been impossibly expensive or just impossible, or the cubicle dweller’s secret pleasure of discovering, on a slow day at work, something striking on computer networks that is unknown to the powers that be. Romanticism provided a framework for making sense of those experiences, and thus a way to frame computing as an exploration, not a means to an end, as a means of personal expression, as an art. This presentation elaborates on the sociology of this pattern of expectant novelty, using Papacharissi’s suggestion that the digital world offers a “habitus of the new,” with its own distinct inducements and blindspots. Bourdieu’s notion of a habitus offers a non-dualist, non-determinist way to make sense of the way digital novelty has become woven into the fabric of how we live our day to day lives. Thomas Streeter is Professor of Sociology at the University of Vermont. He has also taught for the School of Cinema-Television at the University of Southern California, and was a Member of the School of Social Science at the Princeton Institute for Advanced Study. The Net Effect: Romanticism, Capitalism, and the Internet (NYU Press, 2011) is a study of the role of culture in the social construction of internet technology. His award-winning Selling the Air, a study of the cultural underpinnings of the creation of the US broadcast industry and its regulatory apparatus, was published in 1996. He edited, with Zephyr Teachout, a volume about the use of the internet in Howard Dean’s run for President, called Mousepads, Shoe Leather, and Hope, published in 2007. He has published articles and chapters in outlets ranging from the Cardozo Arts and Entertainment Law Journal to the Journal of Communication to Critical Inquiry.
Wisdom and Righteousness are not just high-sounding spiritual terms that we read about in the Bible. Wisdom and Righteousness are meant to be worked out in the practical, every day parts of our lives, especially as they pertain to how we see and relate to others.
