Here at Calvary, the next generation is our priority. Each year, we set aside a Sunday to feature our Young Communicators as they share God's Word with our church family. This weekend, we heard from seven outstanding student speakers, including Eden Vasquez who teaches us the importance of having steadfast faith and worshiping even when it's hard.

This week we're taking a short break from our Embodied Love series to welcome special guest speaker Pastor Loey Wittink from C3 Amsterdam – City. Drawing from Jesus' parable of the sower in Luke 8, Loey will bring a message titled “Steadfast Faith: The Secret is in the Soil.” Together we'll explore what it means to develop a faith that endures through trials, remains rooted in God's character rather than circumstances, and bears fruit with patience.

Num 13:16-14:10 As we continue our study in Joshua we pause to look at a younger Joshua in the book of Numbers and we consider this question - What does great faith look like?

The Apostle Paul teaches through 1 Corinthians 15:51–58 about the mystery of the resurrection, the instantaneous transformation of believers at Christ's return, and the victory over death through Jesus Christ. This message draws practical application from this truth: "be steadfast, immovable, and abound in the work of the Lord, trusting that labor for Christ is never in vain."

Acceptable worship requires a sacrificial love that dies to self.

This week we commence a series on the letter of James. Ray will give a more in-depth introduction to the letter next week, while my sermon will focus on Chapter 1 verses 2-12. There James asks us, as his readers, to 'count it pure joy' when we encounter various trials. Is that reasonable? Is it even possible? Well, yes it is if we know that through trials God is maturing our faith so that we become steadfast. God is at work in us and will generously grant us the wisdom we need to endure each trial and remain firm in our trust in his goodness and sovereignty. Such trials may include poverty or wealth - both can test our faith - and James gives instruction on faith's response to both situations. When we are tested and remain steadfast in faith our love for the Lord deepens because we know he is the one who achieved this in us, such is his mercy and kindness to us in Christ Jesus. James reminds us that, as those who love God, we receive the promised 'Crown of Life', which, much more than the gift of immortality, is eternal life with the One we love. Could there be any greater blessing than that?!

Hold fast through every stormy trial, self-denial, and cross-bearing with your eyes on Jesus, the King of Glory. He will return ushering us into His kingdom of everlasting peace and righteousness.

The stability of your eternal hope rests on how you respond to Jesus.

As Christians, we possess a better inheritance in the new covenant than we could have ever received with the old.

The discipline of the Lord strengthens weary Christians to keep running with endurance.

Like runners in a long-distance race, we're called to run our race with endurance. Be challenged to persevere, on Revive Our Hearts Weekend.

Second Baptist Church - Houston, TX | In 1 Peter 3, Peter addresses an age-old issue: cultural push-back in the form of questioning, shaming, and mockery. He encourages the believers to endure, specifically by telling them what to expect, how to prepare, and where to hope. 

In Acts 21:1-36, we encounter a chapter filled with a man earnestly pursuing the will of the Lord. As the Apostle Paul journeys to Jerusalem, he gains deeper insight into God's purposes for his life: some expected others surprising. Yet through it all, one truth remains clear: Paul understood that God's will for him was to walk in the footsteps of his Savior.
