Onnur einstaklingaútgávan hjá Agnethu á enskum hevur løg um 'One Way Love' og 'I Won't Let You Go', ið javnan hava verið spæld í føroyskum útvarpi. Ljóðið er eyðkent fýrsáraljóð við nógvum synthi, men vanlig ljóðføri sum gittar, bassur og trummur verða eisini nýtt. Abba-bassgittaristurin, Rutger Gunnarsson, lat el-bassspæl til hesa plátuna, umframt at synthbassur varð nýttur aftrat. Framleiðarin, Eric Stewart, skrivaði fleiri løg til útgávuna og 'I Won't Let You Go' saman við Agnethu sjálvari. Elvis Costella sigst vera ein Abba-fjeppari, ið fegin vildi, at Agnetha nýtti sín sang, 'Shatter Proof', men eftir øllum at døma hevði Fältskog ikki hug at hava hann við á Eyes of a woman. Hvat Costello segði til tað, vita vit ikki. Men annar kendur komponistur á útgávuni er Justin Hayward frá Moody Blues. Hansara íkast var tað sorgblíða 'The Angels Cry'. Endalagið, 'We Move As One, skrivaðu Asia-tónleikararnir, John Wetton og Geoff Downes. Og 'One Way Love' var ein bílegging frá Jeff Lynne í E.L.O.
(mg)

This week's episode of TWTW is a 'voyage' into the swinging world of knitted sequin hats, platform silver boots and Eurovision.Yes, cabaret star Luke Merideth, really does a great job in knowing me, knowing you, and decided it was high time we took a deep dive into the torrid love story behind the stars of ABBA! But, as we didn't have three hours to record, this time we focus on what went on between the one half which contained Agnetha and Bjorn. Did the winner take it all when this romance ultimately failed, or were our erstwhile couple glad that the other took a chance on love? As always Grainne and Chantal are ready to divulge the details and lay all the love on us, so here we go... Come and see TWTW LIVE at this year's Cheerful Earful festival in London on October 19th 2024! Full info and tickets can be found HERE! And a VERY special announcement as to who the guest will be is imminent, so stay tuned! See you there XX Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
It's November 2023, and the world's most successful compilation series is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Five decades of compiling the latest hits, the occasional miss, but always the songs that soundtracked our lives. Always there, always democratically and expertly sequencing the music that the UK buying (downloading/streaming/swiping) public were grooving to, laughing to, dancing along with, or crying about (add in your own band or artists here). What else is still with us from 1983? And still having such an impact?Breakfast Time? Well, certainly not Frank Bough. The Ford Sierra? Taxi!£1 coins? Down the back of the sofa.Kajagoogoo? Hush hush, as they say. (One for the older listeners)So, as our friends at NOW rightly celebrate the past through a stunning array of special albums and even see podcasters pop up across several TV programmes waxing lyrically about the famous compilation series (well, no-one else will talk about it, will they?) the numbered series that started it all in November 1983 continued to do exactly what it set out to do; bring together the songs of NOW.Perhaps no longer just the Top Chart Hits, that tag line that emblazoned the front cover of earlier volumes, but now taking into account the various ways we actually DO consume music in the third decade of the 21st century.NOW 116 - The Best of the Best.47 tracks. Tik Tok stars, Film soundtrack anthems, legendary decade surviving artists. Pop, rock, dance, soul. All present and correct, all breathlessly exciting, all taking that snapshot in time of pop culture. And as we know, an invaluable window into the soundtrack of our lives.Where, indeed, Agnetha, do we go from here?To understand the past and the future, we always need to be in the NOW. (Take a note of that line, its a good one: Ed)And joining me to make sense of this dazzling volume of the world famous compilation series is award winning writer, journalist and NOW fan David Quantick.David explains why he wanted to get in 'at the deep end' and why he thinks that NOW116 highlights that pop is in a fine healthy state in. We explore what actually is a 'hit' in 2023/24, why short songs are always an indication of great songs, why NOW continues to keep getting it right and how the compilation series is Top Of The Pops in exile.Along the way, discover who David describes as 'the Dr. Who of Pop', who are 'The Strokes for Queen fans (or was that the other way around)' and what a bad AI version of George Michael may look (and sound) like. We also revisit why Pop continues to Eat Itself (yes, David came up with that one!), why the female artists are leaving the boys behind, who the 'ASDA Madonna' is and who the real Madonna is. And did Chris Lowe really offer Tracey Chapman a lift in 1988?We really do (watch what I do here) Paint The Town Red!Jump in, buckle up and remind yourself why pop is still very, very important. She's My Kind of Girl".

Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
"People Need Love". Le groupe ? Abba !
Let's head to Sweden to meet that country's most famous songwriter and guitarist, best known for his work playing with the smash hit group, ABBA. In our interview from Stockholm, JANNE SCHAFFER talks of his experience building his own guitar in school when he was just 12 years old. He tells us stories of how his disapproving father came to a gig one night to haul him off the stage and how he had to continue practicing and playing in secret. He talks about how he formed a friendship with ABBA's Benny Andersson and how it was, in part, his efforts that brought Agnetha and Anni-Frid into the group. Janne has a great story to tell that also includes hanging out and recording with artists like Bob Marley and Johnny Nash. Do you remember Canadian band, THE FIVE MAN ELECTRICAL BAND? Perhaps not the name but definitely that 1971 anti-establishment song 'Signs' which made it to the top of the charts all over the world. The group featured guitarist/vocalist Les Emmerson who sadly passed away recently as a result of Covid 19. The band was originally known as The Staccatos and this week current members Steve Hollingworth and Mike Crepin tell us about not only that song, but about their other hits and their resurgence in popularity, partly due to their recent efforts to raise awareness about climate change. We also catch up with Nashville singer-songwriter KELLY LANG whose dad was the road manager for country legend Conway Twitty. Kelly regales us with stories about performing with Sir Barry Gibb, Ronnie Milsap, Loretta Lynn and her dear friend, the late Olivia Newton John. Kelly's also married to county superstar T.G SHEPPARD and tells us what life is like working and living with him. Is there someone you'd like to hear from? A musician from the 60s, 70s or 80s who you'd like me to interview? All you have to do is get in touch through my website www.abreathoffreshair.com.au or send me a message directly sandy@abreathoffreshair.com.au and I'll be happy to follow up for you. Calling all Dancing Queens, we think you'll love our fABBAulous chat with ABBA The Museum's Creative Director and Curator, Ingmarie Halling (she also used to tour with ABBA overseeing their costumes, make-up and hair). Ingmarie knows more about the Swedish supergroup than anyone else (apart from Agnetha, Benny, Bjorn and Anna-Frid of course) and our chat with her comes just as ABBA Voyage arrives in London. Find out all about the museum, its history and how you can chat to a member of ABBA there, as well as getting Ingmarie's lowdown on Stockholm itself. Continuing the museum theme, this month's Top 5 takes a look at travel website wanderlust.so.uk's choice of the world's strangest and quirkiest museums - the Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum in Tennessee, USA; the British Lawnmower Museum in Southport, England; The Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb, Croatia; New Delhi's Museum of Toilets in India and Japan's Cup Noodles Museum in Osaka. But what about Iceland's Phallological Museum dedicated to penises - has Wanderlust cocked-up by not including it, we ask? We've also got our regular Where in the World feature - does Andrea outwit Heidi for the third month in a row? And we kick off the show by asking if anyone sends postcards anymore (Andrea certainly does, from far flung places including the Falkland Islands and North Korea) and we look through Heidi's box of cards from years gone by as well as the custom and practice of what to write - weather here, wish you were lovely! SUBSCRIBE to our podcast - we would really love that! And follow us here: Instagram Twitter Facebook Find ABBA The Museum online here. Thanks, as always, to our good friends from Northern Ireland band 3D Shark, who provide our theme tune. If we plug them enough one day they'll get into the charts and they'll buy us a pint! Thanks for listening and see you next month.
Amongst all his other difficulties, Boris Johnson has promised to improve the outcome for rape victims, saying he will fix the system. It was a pledge made after the murder of Sarah Everard. Today, long awaited guidelines on evidence in trials have been published which campaigners say will do just the opposite. They'll deter women from coming forward because police and prosecutors will STILL be allowed to ask for personal records like medical and therapy notes and even school reports. We discussed this last month - when our reporter Melanie Abbott heard that draft guidelines prepared by the Crown Prosecution Service were being overturned. She joins us to tell us the latest. Bravehearted is a new book that explores the extraordinary story of the women of the American ‘Wild West' during the 19th century. Whether they were the hard-drinking hard-living poker players and prostitutes of the new boom towns, 'ordinary' wives and mothers walking two thousand miles across the prairies pulling their handcarts behind them, Chinese slave-brides working in laundries, or the Native American women displaced by the mass migration, all have one trait in common: extreme resilience and courage in the face of the unknown. We speak to author and historian, Katie Hickman about a period of history she believes has never been as well-documented by women as this. The Living Wage Foundation has said that women are being disproportionately impacted by the cost of living crisis as they are more likely to be in low paid work. Today the government is set to announce support, the Financial Times' Clear Barrett joins Jessica on the programme to discuss how this could help you. Producer Svana Gisla has kept the whole production on track for five years. Around three- quarters of the estimated two hundred and fifty thousand people suffering from ME, in the UK are women. This month the Health Secretary, Sajid Javid, announced a new plan to tackle Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in England, with better care and support, more research and a pledge to “trust and listen to those with lived experience” of ME. Woman's Hour is joined by Sean O'Neill, a senior writer for the Times, who described that announcement as “the most bitter of bittersweet moments.” Sean's eldest daughter Maeve, passed away last October at the age of twenty -seven, after suffering from ME since she was a teenager. That news from the Health Secretary made him decide the time was right for him to tell his very personal story about Maeve and her debilitating struggles with both the illness and the NHS. Emma also talks to Dr Charles Shepherd, medical advisor to the ME Association. The Derringer Brothers - Alton, Dave, and Paul - welcome a new member to the team: Laura Derringer. They are now The Derringers (or Team Derringer). The Derringers usually don't talk about Money, Money, Money, which happens to be a hit song by ABBA, the world-renowned pop rock band featured in this episode. However, since ABBA is from Stockholm, Sweden, the same place that is home to Spotify, the Derringers have been vigorously debating which entity is the bigger Swedish export: ABBA or Spotify! Going against Spotify is the fact that, in FY2020, they posted a €581 million loss and FY2021 is not yet public. In ABBA's corner, the following factors give them a financial edge: The four members of ABBA - Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, and Frida are each reportedly worth about €150 million. When ABBA does absolutely nothing, they still manage to generate around €2.5 million in royalties every year and have done so for the past 40 years. ABBA recently reunited after a 40-year break and their presence on the world stage is about to explode, starting in late-May 2022. To celebrate the return of ABBA, the Derringers will undertake the following five tasks: (1) Reveal ABBA's Top Seven songs, as selected by ABBA-superfan Vivian and the four members of ABBA, as well as listener streams on Spotify; (2) Review the album Voyage, ABBA's first new collection in 40 years, and their upcoming ABBA-tar tour, scheduled to start in May 2022; (3) Consider whether Agnetha or Frida is the better singer; (4) Answer whether or not ABBA Jumped the Shark; and (5) Did they Cross the Rubicon? The Derringers will relay interesting trivia, such as: (1) Why did Saturday Night Live (SNL) post a disclaimer on the TV screen during ABBA's performance in 1975? (2) What song sparked ABBA-mania in Australia? (3) Why did three of the members of ABBA sue their manager Stig Anderson? (4) Why didn't Frida join them in the lawsuit? In addition, Derringer Discoveries will introduce you to a fantastic Swedish recording artist named Mats Dernánd. Plus, the Post-Episode Bonus will feature Monique Angele, an up & coming singer-songwriter from Canada who now calls ABBA-mania Australia home. And at the very end, Derringer Discoveries will reveal the #1 song on The Turnip Music Radio (TMR) Top 25 for the month of January 2022. All of the songs discussed in this episode are included on Sweden's Biggest Export: Reunited After 40 Years! playlist. Send your feedback to feedback@derringerdiscoveries.com. ABBA has reunited for its first album in nearly 40 years, and we're saying, “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" Thankfully, the curator of Sweden's ABBA-museum (that's a real place), Ingmarie Halling, was nice enough to join our show from Stockholm and help us celebrate. In fact, she actually toured with the band in the 1970s, and has öödles of stories about being on the road with Agnetha, Björn, Benny, and Anni-Frid. We also discuss ABBA's new music and virtual "ABBAtar" performances, myths about the band, how Sweden apparently doesn't find ABBA as cool as America does, and famous misheard lyrics of their songs (our favorite pastime). If you have any comments, questions, ideas, celebrity impressions or personal misheard-lyric stories, you can send them to IfYoureAnOldSoul@gmail.com.
Abba reunited after 40 years earlier this month, but only did a small number of interviews to promote their comeback - and Dickie Wilkins thought he'd bagged a world exclusive with member Agnetha Fältskog. Instead, Fitzy & Wippa just found a Swedish woman called Anna to pretend to be Agnetha over the phone …all whilst telling her some very inappropriate things to say. Special Guest Star: Craig SmithIn this episode, Craig Smith (Pods & Sods, Same Page Cast, & Moronophonics podcasts) and me delve into the Swedish pop phenomenon known as…ABBA!While ABBA was very successful during its ten years together, their biggest success as a group would come decades after their breakup. In that spirit, we take a deep dive into the music, the flashy costumes, and most importantly, Agnetha's butt. And while this episode is primarily focused on ABBA, we get sidetracked into the following:· Craig's conspiracy theories as to how KISS ripped off ABBA· Bruce Springsteen's Tunnel Of Love· Why Craig won't listen to Aerosmith, but he'll listen to my podcast episode *about* AerosmithThis is a rip-roaring episode, as Mr. Smith is not shy about expressing his opinions in any manner he sees fit. Strap yourself in and get ready for a spirited discussion about Sweden's greatest export.
