As temperatures drop, having reliable heating becomes crucial—Eric advises RVers to prepare for the worst-case scenario, especially when temperatures plummet to double digits below zero. By applying these strategies, RV enthusiasts can embrace the winter months without compromising their comfort or safety, allowing them to explore even the coldest regions with confidence. Takeaways: Staying warm in cold weather while RVing is crucial for comfort and safety. Investing in quality RV parts, like Wago connectors, ensures better performance and longevity. Proper insulation and sealing in your RV can significantly improve heating efficiency. Always check RVs for leaks and functionality before finalizing any purchase or contract. Having multiple heat sources in your RV, such as electric heaters, is highly recommended. Consider using dehumidifiers to reduce moisture and improve comfort during cold weather. This is Eric Stark with The Smart RVer Podcast, Delivering the Smarts you need to enjoy the freedom of the RV Lifestyle without the fear of breaking down! Enjoying the RV Life: Dealing with Difficult RVers — Cash Saving Tips Part 1 Alexis thoughtfully discusses the importance of handling disruptive fellow RVers while camping. While certain individuals may test our patience and threaten to spoil the experience for us and our families, Alexis offers guidance on how to navigate these situations calmly. Her advice helps us find ways to manage these challenges without escalating tensions, allowing us to still enjoy our stay at the campground. Cash Saving Tips #1 1. Have You Ever Considered Boondocking or Spending the Night in A Parking Lot? One common challenge for RVers is finding a place to park for the night. While there are countless RV parks, resorts, and campgrounds across the country, they often come with a price tag. Some fees might be reasonable, but in areas with limited camping options, you could be looking at over $100 per night! If you're looking to save on overnight costs, consider dry camping. This is where you park for free on public lands, like those managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) or national forests. While you won't have hookups, you can rely on your RV's battery and water storage systems. It's a great way to enjoy the freedom of the road while keeping more money in your wallet! Another budget-friendly option is to stay overnight in a parking lot. You won't be able to set up a full campsite, but several business chains welcome RVers for a night or two. Popular spots include Walmart, Cracker Barrel, Bass Pro Shops, and Cabela's. To make things easier, use a trip planner like RV LIFE Trip Wizard to locate these convenient stops along your journey. Staying On The Road: Why and How to Prepare Your Rv For Winter Storage! Eric delves into the importance of preparing your RV for winter storage, sharing insights from his years of experience as an RV expert. This is Eric Stark with The Smart RV'er Podcast, Delivering the smarts you need to enjoy the freedom of the RV Lifestyle without the fear of breaking down! Enjoying the RV Life: Today, Alexis and I will talk about something crucial for all you RV enthusiasts out there: winterizing your RV. Winter can be tough on your RV, and it's not just about protecting the freshwater system. There are other aspects to consider to ensure your RV stays in great shape during those cold months. Inspect the Seals and Roof: Check all the seals around windows, doors, and roof vents. Ensure they are intact and not cracked or damaged. Replace any seals showing wear and tear to prevent drafts and moisture from getting inside. Clean and Store Your RV Thoroughly: Give your RV a good cleaning, both inside and out. This will help prevent dirt and grime from causing damage during the winter months. Once it's clean, find a secure storage location for your RV if possible, away from the elements. Tire Care: Maintain proper tire pressure and consider using tire covers to protect them from the cold. Cold weather can cause tires to lose pressure, and keeping them properly inflated will prevent damage. Also, occasionally move your RV to avoid flat spots on the tires. Propane Tanks: Shut off the propane supply and make sure all appliances are off. If you're storing your RV for an extended period, it's a good idea to remove the propane tanks and store them in a safe place. Battery Maintenance: If you're not using a trickle charger or solar panels to keep your RV's battery charged, it's essential to remove the battery and store it in a warm, dry place. Cold temperatures can damage batteries. Interior Preparations: Empty out all perishable items from your refrigerator and pantry. Leave the refrigerator and freezer doors open to prevent mold and odors. Also, open all cabinet doors to promote air circulation and prevent moisture buildup. Water System: Drain your water tanks, water heater, and all water lines. You can use RV antifreeze to flush the water lines thoroughly to prevent freezing. Don't forget to drain and clean the black and gray water tanks too. Heating System: If you have an onboard heating system, make sure it's in good working condition. It'll help keep the inside of your RV from freezing during the winter. Rodent Control: Seal any openings or gaps where critters could enter your RV. Mice and other pests love to seek shelter in warm places during the winter. Regular Check-Ins: Even if your RV is in storage, it's a good idea to check on it periodically. Ensure that everything is in order and that there are no unexpected issues. Winterizing your RV properly can save you a lot of headaches and repair costs down the road. Remember, it's not just about protecting your plumbing; it's about preserving your entire RV for many more adventures to come. So, take the time to prepare your RV for winter, and you'll be all set to hit the road again when the weather warms up. Thanks for tuning in, and happy RVing! Staying On The Road:
