We learn in Lessons in Tanya chapter 35 with the concept of Hashem's Shechina dwelling in our life, the mashal of the candle. Our generation with the war with Iran brings out this special level even though Benonim can reach of Bital Hamitziut by doing Torah Mitzvot... We then learned some meforshim which ALSO overlapped yesterday's explanations, before doing a somewhat deep-dive into the Meiri's understanding of the word תפילה. We concluded with R' Sheishes's practical idea about tefilah, paired with an excerpt from R' Eliezer Berkovitz on tefilas shav. All in all, I was delighted to see how my favorite subject of Mishlei was able to shed light on one of my other favorite subjects: tefilah!-----מקורות:משלי טו:כטמיוחס לרד"קאבות ב:דרד"ק - בראשית ד:ג-דר"י נחמיאשרבינו יונהמאירי - משלי טו:ח,כטר' ששת בן יצחק גרונדירמב"ם - משנה תורה: ספר המדע, הלכות דעות ב:גRabbi Eliezer Berkovitz – Is Prayer Answered? Some thoughts on the limited, philosophical approach to prayer vs. the mystical approach to prayer
Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text!Length: 56 minutesSynopsis: Tonight (3/12/25), in lieu of our Wednesday night tefilah shiur, we took up a Purim-related tefilah topic: Esther's tefilah! "But wait," you might object, "where in the Megillah does it say that Esther davened?" The answer: it doesn't—at least not explicitly. But the Midrashim and midrashic Targumim contain several references to her tefilah, and we analyzed the Targum Rishon on Esther 5:1, where her tefilah is spelled out in detail. I wasn't sure if we'd arrive at an understanding, but one of the guys in the shiur offered a great explanation, which I supplemented with my own insights to help us implement Esther's strategy in our own davening.-----מקורות:רמב"ם - משנה תורה: הקדמה, מצוות דרבנןאסתר ד:טו - ה:אתרגום ראשון לאסתר ה:ארלב"ג - שמות יז (סוף פרשת בשלח)תרגום שני לאסתר ה:א-----The Torah content for this week has been sponsored by my friend, Rabbi Dr. Elie Feder. Taanis Esther is one of many fasts we keep, but something feels different about it compared to all other fasts. Rabbi Stark dives into the mystery of, and reason for, Taanis Esther.
Hi everyone! Welcome back to another episode of The Chai on Life Podcast. I'm Alex Segal and today, I'm speaking with Rebbetzin Sarah Feldbrand. She is a former principal of adult education programs in the U.S. and Canada and has taught Jewish philosophy and history for decades. Her teaching evolved into 40 books on Jewish philosophy and history as well as biographies, and historical fiction for adults and children. Currently the Rebbetzin is the moderator of a Mechanchos Forum and also provides Torah counseling via email at asktherebetzin@gmail.com.We decided to focus on her two volume series called Towards Meaningful Prayer and really get into some of the common issues women have when it comes to connecting to tefilah and how to solve them.Prayer is something that hopefully we all do everyday. Because it's every day it has the power to connect us like nothing else but also because it happens every day it can become rote or something we do quickly to then get on with our day versus a mitzvah that only comes one time a year.We all know prayer has immense power but sometimes it's just hard to seize that — you may feel like you're lacking in connection. So in this conversation, we speak about why davening and prayer is such a powerful tool for women, how to change your practice if things are feeling rote or uninspired, how your mindset has everything to do with tefilah and how to set yourself up for success mentally, which prayers specifically may help you connect more deeply and so much more.If there is someone you want to see on The Chai on Life Podcast, email me at alex@chaionlifemag.com or send me a DM @chaionlifemag. Thanks again, see you next week!

Parashat Vayigash... Explaining Zohar's comparison of tefilah and tefilinپاراشا وییگش by Rabbi Benjamin Lavian
There are moments when certain prayers are תְּפִלּוֹת שָׁוְא. This is not one of them!
Now that we understand how Yaakov is the synthesis of the middos of Avraham and Yitzchak, the questions is how does one practically apply this concept.

VaYera: Tefilah as a Conversation by Rabbi Avi Harari
We all know what a "Yeshiva" is, but does anyone actually know what "yeshiva" means?
In this class we study the early history and later development of the 16th Beracha of the Amidah which was an early staple of petitionary prayer and a hotbed for embellishment in medieval times.
Many of us may experience an emotional rollercoaster over Rosh Hashanah but really it should be a day of "simcha" and rejoicing.
Podcast: Maor Vashemesh defines deveykut as access to Mochin Ila'in which is only possible through the attachment of Tefilah. The "residue" that follows when back in the real world ("shearis Mochin") gives him the ability to put into action the product of the inspiration. Punning on the word "beasamecha" as things that are "samui" hidden from view...the thoughts and inner work not open for scrutiny...even when performing mitzvot publically.

Zvika Krieger, spiritual leader at Chochmat HaLev in Berkeley, California, joins Dan and Lex for a conversation about the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Together they ask and explore a variety of questions: who is the God of the High Holidays? When Jews and their loved ones gather to pray, are they praying to that God? Are they (we) doing something else? Should we chuck most of the liturgy out and re-focus ourselves in a different way?
