We talk about polarization in terms of media, algorithms, and politics. But what if we've simply forgotten how to sit down with people who aren't like us?In this episode, David sits down with Tim Jones, founder of Longer Tables, a real-world initiative that brings strangers together over shared meals to rebuild social trust and human connection.Tim argues that humans are “slow-cooked.” Trust, belonging, and meaningful relationships don't scale at the speed of technology—and that mismatch may be driving much of our social division. This conversation explores what happens when you remove job titles, politics, and performance from the table—and what it might take to design connection in a polarized world.Text me your feedback and leave your contact info if you'd like a reply (this is a one-way text). As a dedicated professional intuitive, she has spent years honing her ability to connect deeply with energies and emotions that shape our experiences. Her journey into this realm began at a very young age, she was gifted with the ability to perceive things that others often overlooked. Her heightened sensitivity allowed her to see beyond the surface, but as she grew older, she felt pressure to suppress her gift to avoid being labeled as "weird". This internal conflict led to a lifelong struggle with severe anxiety, culminating in a period where she was committed to an institution and heavily medicated for 4 years. Despite her efforts to find relief, she felt trapped and hopeless, and it came to a point where she was ready to end her life. In a miraculous turn of events, she discovered hypnotherapy which profoundly changed the course of her life. This transformative experience not only helped her reclaim her mental well-being but also reignited her connection and intuitive gifts. Today, as a professional intuitive and shadow work practitioner, she is devoted to helping others navigate their own journeys of self-discovery and healing. By blending intuitive insights with the principles of shadow work, Stephanie creates a safe and supportive space for clients to explore their inner fears, and embrace their authentic nature. Her mission is to empower individuals to trust their intuition, heal from past traumas, and cultivate a life filled with purpose and joy. Together, you will uncover the insights that will guide you toward a brighter, and more magical future. Connect with Stephanie on Instagram: @stephrobins3
In this episode, I'm sharing five simple (but not always easy!) ways to deepen your connection with herbs as part of your personal healing journey. These practices may seem straightforward, but their true power comes from consistency and patience over time. Whether you're new to herbalism or have been working with plants for years, these steps will help you build a more meaningful and intuitive relationship with herbs. The five key ways to connect are:1. Grow Herbs – Cultivating plants at home fosters a hands-on, sensory relationship.2. Learn Botanical Names – Knowing an herb's true name deepens understanding and respect.3. Observe a Single Plant Through the Seasons – Watching its life cycle brings insight into its nature and uses.4. Study One Herb for a Year – Immersing yourself in a single plant teaches you its nuances and gifts.5. Practice Open Visualization – Engaging with herbs beyond the physical enhances intuition and connection.I'll share how I incorporate these practices into my own life and offer tips on how you can get started—no matter where you are on your herbal path.

Hi everyone! Welcome back to another episode of The Chai on Life Podcast. I'm Alex Segal and today, I'm speaking with Rebbetzin Sarah Feldbrand. She is a former principal of adult education programs in the U.S. and Canada and has taught Jewish philosophy and history for decades. Her teaching evolved into 40 books on Jewish philosophy and history as well as biographies, and historical fiction for adults and children. Currently the Rebbetzin is the moderator of a Mechanchos Forum and also provides Torah counseling via email at asktherebetzin@gmail.com.We decided to focus on her two volume series called Towards Meaningful Prayer and really get into some of the common issues women have when it comes to connecting to tefilah and how to solve them.Prayer is something that hopefully we all do everyday. Because it's every day it has the power to connect us like nothing else but also because it happens every day it can become rote or something we do quickly to then get on with our day versus a mitzvah that only comes one time a year.We all know prayer has immense power but sometimes it's just hard to seize that — you may feel like you're lacking in connection. So in this conversation, we speak about why davening and prayer is such a powerful tool for women, how to change your practice if things are feeling rote or uninspired, how your mindset has everything to do with tefilah and how to set yourself up for success mentally, which prayers specifically may help you connect more deeply and so much more.If there is someone you want to see on The Chai on Life Podcast, email me at alex@chaionlifemag.com or send me a DM @chaionlifemag. Thanks again, see you next week!

Everyone you meet can help you open more doors in terms of friendships, business, love, and so on. Bright Side has compiled a list of must-know rules for those who know the true value of making new acquaintances and business contacts. TIMESTAMPS Do a research about the person you are going to meet 0:44 Prepare for the context of the meeting 1:23 Learn people's names and use them 2:12 Remember that nobody feels relaxed 3:18 Be friendly and confident 3:45 Watch your posture 4:47 Focus on your body language 5:21 Take care of your appearance 5:40 Never show off 6:18 Pay attention to the person's interests 6:43 Finish the conversation correctly 7:39 SUMMARY You don't need to spend a lot of money on a private detective. Just find the person's page on Facebook and look through it. It's likely that you'll find some information about his or her professional experience, hobbies, and personal interests. There are many kinds of meetings: it can be your first date, a job interview, a meeting with your child's school teacher. Of course, you should be prepared differently for every kind. Dale Carnegie wrote: “To recall a voter's name is statesmanship. To forget is oblivion”. This might sound like an obvious piece of advice, but you can't even imagine how powerful the effect is that names have on us. In sales, it's essential to learn a buyer's name and use it a few times during the conversation. Very few people can feel comfortable when talking to new people. Everybody is worried about how they look and what they say. Don't forget that the person you've just met is also just a person! A fake smile is usually the one when your lips are smiling, and your eyes aren't. Practice a little in front of the mirror, and once you believe yourself, you are ready to go. But remember: a fake smile is worse than no smile at all. Your posture can tell a lot about yourself to other people. Don't stoop if you don't want to look like a loser. Hold your back straight — that way you'll look self-assured and open. Keep your hands in the person's sight. Use your hands when talking. Gestures help to relax your memory because they kind of does a part of talking. Don't cross your legs or hands — this might indicate that you are insecure, which, of course, you aren't! The most important rule is always to stay yourself. If you don't feel comfortable wearing suits, then don't put them on. You don't want to think about your outfit during the conversation. Whatever situation you are in, whoever you are meeting, never show off. After all, you're not Tony Stark! Even if you have a lot to tell about how much money you have or where you go on vacations, keep this information to yourself and only share it if you are asked directly. Show your deepest interest in what the person is telling you (even if it's the most boring thing you've ever heard). Listen attentively, don't interrupt, and ask questions. Do not interrupt the person in mid-sentence. Let them finish. After that come up with a good reason why you need to leave now. Don't let the person think that you are leaving because you are bored. Smile, and say that you had pleasure meeting them. Being a patient can feel like a lonely experience, especially when you sense your doctor is disconnected. In this episode, we explore five ways to build connection in the exam room quickly, why small gestures matter, and how intentional preparation can change the entire dynamic. Finally, we dive into the emotional complexities of patient care and the essential role of listening and presence in preventing burnout. Our conversation centers around the ‘Presence 5 Practices' from this article.

Food can be a wonderful tool of connection. You can use it to connect with others, to a nostalgic memory, while traveling to a new culture, or even connecting to your own heritage. But food is not the only way you can connect to these things. In today's episode, join Georgie as shares some ideas for other ways you can connect with and enjoy time with others without feeling like you have to eat a particular way or default to socializing over food or drinks. We want you to have strong bonds to other people, without worrying that it conflicts with wanting to get healthier and eat better. Connections with people are fostered by what you say, how you listen, and whether you show interest and curiosity about them. It's not about how much or what's on your plate or in your glass. “You can really kick off a positive cycle of increasing transparency and closeness.” This episode is a part 2 of sorts to the friendship from episode 190. I am talking about things to do when you feel lonely. I had a great newsletter from Ellen Hendricksen that started it off with 4 things you can do when you feel lonely. She begins by defining loneliness which I share. Then I especially liked the suggestion which she says, “Use each bout of loneliness as a cue to make social plans.” Then I also share some things from two other articles. Two highlights that I share are: When you are feeling lonely - call your mom and turn that feeling of loneliness into an opportunity to serve and drop off something for someone. There are a lot more suggestions as to what we can do when we are feeling lonely. So if things are feeling that way for you - come listen for some ideas and try out a few. I would love to hear from you! You can reach me at camille@findingthefloor.com or dm @findingthefloor on instagram. Thanks for listening!!Thanks to Seth Johnson for my intro and outro original music. I love it so much!
On this week's mini-episode, I just have a very quick idea for you and it's this. As back-to-school hits, it's easy to immediately become isolated in your classroom. You've got a million to-dos for your space and your students. But the school year is going to feel better if you feel connected to the teacher across the hall, the teacher next door, and the teacher upstairs. Know what I mean? So this week I want to recommend that you host your department for something this back-to-school season. And I'm going to give you a few quick ideas for what that something might be, though really, the what doesn't matter nearly as much as the why. One super simple way to get the department together would be to suggest a lunch potluck in your classroom during the return week. Just send a nice email out saying you'd love to catch up with everyone and you'll be there with some kind of shareable food. Invite everyone to come, bringing their own shareable food. Emphasize that a veggie tray or chips and dip are just fine - no need for anyone to spend hours making homemade strawberry rhubarb pie unless they WANT to. (That would be me, I would want to). Feel free not to even bring up work at this little lunch bash, just welcome the new folks and chat with the returners and generally take a second to remember that you're going into fall as part of a team. Another easy option would be to suggest an ice cream or Boba or even afternoon tea after work outing, following up on one of the teacher workdays. Again, very little prep needs to be involved as the “host.” Simply choose a venue and send out an invitation. If you want to use a fun Canva template for your invites, so much the better, but there's no need to spend more than five minutes on it when you're already busy. Last but not least, a third option is to invite your colleagues to a pedagogy breakfast. Now, you may laugh, but I've actually done this quite a few times, and it was fun. In this case, either choose a coffee shop or bakery near your school and invite your department to gather there in the morning before work for half an hour. You could invite everyone to share an idea they're excited about that they found over the summer, something that worked well the year before, or something around a particular theme on everyone's mind, like AI in the classroom or how they're promoting choice reading. Of course, there are dozens of other ways you could get together for some no-fuss department bonding. Bowling? After-work swim at the lake? Happy hour? My goal today is just to say that as you turn your attention toward building community and connection with your students this fall, you might also want to think about some easy ways to do it with the adults you work with. Feeling like part of a team, maybe one that shares fond memories of the oatmeal-raisin scones down the road or the time Diana rolled three strikes in a row to defeat Shonda, will only help you feel safer and more supported at work. Maybe your decision to host a no-fuss gathering now will also lead others to sprinkle in team gatherings of their own throughout the year.
