Terry Davis was a schizophrenic computer programmer who wrote an operating system by himself. TempleOS, as this creation came to be known, was intended to be the Third Temple, with which Davis could talk to God. Davis achieved a degree of obscure internet fame from, among other things, his streams, where he would show off features of TempleOS, talk to God, play hymns, browse the internet, and shout racial slurs to fend off psychological attacks by the BBC and CIA.

A previous article of ours covered the merger of the two in the music programming language, Sonic PI. If you're curious about the weird extremes of operating system development, check out TempleOS. Cassidy and Alex both take copious notes through Obsidian. Alex has a plugin that may help you organize notes automatically.

From the mind of a very talented yet troubled programmer, Terry Davis, came a pretty crazy operating system known as TempleOS! What led to its creation? What is this operating system all about? We discuss this on the Halloween 2021 edition of Joey's Totally Tech!

The Elixir community continues to flourish and evolve in these uncertain times and in honor of this we have put together a live show with a number of special guests! In part one today, we are joined by Andrea Leopardi and René Föhring, who we are so happy to welcome back. We get the lowdown from each of them in turn, discussing personal preferences, tips and tricks, and recommendations for Elixir and beyond. Andrea gets into some of his pet peeves and comments on the trend of slow interfaces. We then look at future possibilities for Elixir including the outside chance of it being run on mobile and for crypto-mining! Andrea also updates us on the book he is currently working on so keep an eye out for that in the future! René then steps in to talk about his work on Credo, his hopes for it in the future, and some suggestions for listeners using it. We do some comparisons between Elixir and Ruby before René offers some thoughts on Electron and functional programming concepts. This week we're talking about an internet legend and tragedy rolled into one. TempleOS was a unique, highly idiosyncratic project created by programmer Terry A. Davis, a bright but troubled man whose project went through various stages. Starting as a pet project, later labeled as an educational tool, and ultimately manifested as the will of God, the creation of this project is the story of one man's complete and thorough obsession and struggle with mental illness. Along the way he became the stuff of internet legend and an unforgettable piece of history.
Bart, Norma and Voretaq discuss TempleOS, Gerry Brooks and his take on cold weather school cancellations, the Superbowl happened, DNA testing is a great way to shed your (and your family's) privacy, and insurance is terrible...as is our local hospital system...
Terry A Davis believed himself to be God's chosen programmer. He believed that his new operating system was the temple of Solomon as foretold in the bible and that he was God's high priest. He was also a schizophrenic with delusions of grandeur. Today Al and Tony dig deeper into this tragedy. || More Human Echoes stuff: http://humanechoes.com || Become a member for BONUS PODCASTS: http://bit.ly/1NkSWnQ || Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HumanEchoes Bad Ideas Podcast on iTunes: http://apple.co/2yrDfyx Buy some T-shirts: http://bit.ly/1NetNNP Join our Community Discord: https://discord.gg/vyMvJx7 Listen to Bad Ideas: https://youtu.be/8RDb6jlY_4A Watch Dirt Block: https://youtu.be/MfdHU-E_N70 Watch Dwarf Fortress: https://youtu.be/H2KR9Ny4iy8 You can also follow the Human Echoes Peeps on Twitter! @HumanEchoes @tsouthcotte @albert_berg @josephdevon @ManicPix
