In this episode of the Drive Pink Dialogue podcast, Scotty and Saur discuss Inter Miami's 0-0 draw against FC Cincinnati, Gonzalo Lujan, Fafa Picault, Telasco Segovia, Luis Suárez, what went right, how Javier Mascherano managed the game, and as always, they give out some awards.
On paper, FC Cincinnati fans may have approached this next game with some confidence. After all, keeping Lionel Messi off the scoring sheet is no small feat. Despite losing Kevin Denkey for a prolonged spell, the Orange & Blue rode Evander's brace to silence the Herons 3-0 at TQL Stadium. However, the confidence this weekend could be harder to measure. The news could focus on Evander and Messi again testing each other's MVP chances. However, Messi's absence from the All-Star Game on Wednesday has ruffled feathers in the Winged Lions' fans. That should lead to a suspension if history dictates anything, but can we honestly expect the G.O.A.T. to miss another match against Cincinnati? That possibility still exists, so we ask Alex from Bleacher Report and The Heron's Nest about such a threat. Did Pat Noonan play his cards correctly last time? Can the Orange & Blue pull another fast one against South Beach's Super Squad? What could Javier Mascherano drum up to resume Miami's defense of the Supporters' Shield? Subscribe to Ensemble PSG on Substack for more episodes. For the second match in a row, Paris Saint-Germain will take on a Major League Soccer squad that they should defeat. However, the matchup against Inter Miami comes with a little extra motivation.Joining me on the latest Ensemble PSG Podcast are Daniel and Kris from Battered Herons, and Ethan from PSG Fan Club Boise. We talk about PSG's upcoming match against Inter Miami in the Round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup and some of the drama swirling around the matchup. We begin with Daniel and Kris telling us about their podcast, and then jump into their initial thoughts after it was official that Inter Miami would face PSG. With a significant amount of prize money up for grabs to the winning squad, I ask whether that will be a strong motivator for the MLS team.Lionel Messi is obviously the biggest star for Inter Miami, but Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and even their manager, Javier Mascherano, will be familiar to PSG fans not only because of their careers but also from the 6-1 defeat to FC Barcelona in 2017. I ask about other Inter Miami players who could make an impact against PSG.Of course, we discuss PSG fans wanting to win big against Messi after some of his statements about the club following his departure. We also discuss whether Messi has to deliver an MLS Cup this season. We wrap up the show talking about Messi's impact in Miami, and we give our predictions.Thank you for listening and subscribing. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Atlanta United will try to right the ship after a disappointing loss in Charlotte on Saturday. Maybe most disappointing because they didn't allow Charlotte to create very much, created quite a bit themselves, but didn't get anything to show for it. Red Bulls await on Saturday night at the Benz.Plenty to chew on after week 2 in MLS. Columbus has proven me, and many others, wrong as they won their second match of the season. San Jose and Vancouver have been two of the big surprises with two straight wins. Tai Baribo has 5 goals in 2 games for Philly, leading the Union to a perfect start. LAFC have completed their transformation into a defensive brickhouse with back-to-back 1-0 wins.Miami went to Houston without Lionel Messi and demolished the Dynamo 4-1. The story after was a red card after the final whistle to Ian Fray from referee Joe Dickerson. Miami manager Javier Mascherano was very frustrated afterwards, and I agree with him. The match was not managed well down the stretch, leading to many issues, and Fray did nothing to deserve a red card. The referee who did not give a straight red to Milwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts might need to be disciplined, it was one of the worst challenges you'll ever see. Jean-Phillippe Mateta needed 25 stitches to close the wound it created.Paulo Fonseca, who just started at Lyon, might be suspended for a while after making contact with a referee in Lyon's 2-1 win over Brest. He was, rightfully as it was proven later as it was overturned by the VAR, arguing a late penalty decision that would have given Brest an opportunity to level the match. However, making contact with the referee, even if it is on the minor side like this one, will result in a suspension. The takeover in Scotland of Rangers by a group including the San Francisco 49ers is in the closing stages. It will be very interesting to see their plans for making over the club.Tigres fired manager Veljko Paunovic with the team in 3rd place in Liga MX and gave the job to now-retired Guido Pizarro, who played in their win over Necaxa on Saturday. Yeah, it's confusing. Pizarro will be on the touchline for their next match, tomorrow night in Cincinnati in ConcaChampions.IFAB announced that starting with this summer's Club World Cup, goalkeepers who hold the ball for more than eight seconds will concede a corner kick. This is a changed from the rarely enforced (sorry Canada in 2012) six-second rule that saw an indirect kick given inside the 18 yard box.
ESPN FC's Jeff Carlisle, Bill Connelly and Lizzy Becherano join Luis Miguel Echegaray ahead of the start of the 30th MLS season.
