In a quiet English town, 13-year-old Billie Jo Jenkins was brutally murdered on the porch of her foster home. Her foster father, Sion Jenkins, was convicted of the crime, but after two retrials, he was acquitted in 2006 - leaving one of the UK's most notorious murders unsolved. Despite his acquittal, the jury never delivered a ‘not guilty' verdict, making this case even more perplexing. Professor Adrian Linacre is a forensic blood spatter expert, who's worked on hundreds of cases across the world, including the Billie Jo Jenkins murder investigation. In this episode, uncover the twists and turns in this highly controversial case, go inside the courtroom drama, and unravel the delicate balance between forensic science and justice. Zechariah proclaims that the LORD alone provides rain for the fields; idols are worthless. Because the leaders of God's people have pointed them toward idols, the LORD of hosts will punish them, and He will send the Savior as the cornerstone, the tent peg, and the battle bow. Through this Savior the LORD will save all His people and bring them back to Himself, even from the farthest reaches of the world. Rev. Zelwyn Heide, pastor at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hanover, ND and Zion Lutheran Church in New Salem, ND, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Zechariah 10:1-12. "The Post-Exilic Prophets” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through the books of Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. Through the preaching of these faithful men, the LORD sent His Word to His people who returned home after their exile in Babylon. Not only did the LORD encourage His people in the work of rebuilding the temple, but even more than that, He pointed them forward to the fulfillment of all the Old Testament promises in the coming kingdom of our true King and great High Priest, Jesus Christ.
We're at the point in Judges where the leaders haven't yet gone off the rails. In this message we meet Deborah and Jael, two women who lead Israel to victory with God's guidance. It's a great lesson in trusting God's promises and making the most of the spiritual gifts He blesses us all with.
God uses the unexpected to accomplish His purposes.

(Judges 4:1-24) Yearly Theme: “Kindness is… Action” Series Title: “Kindness in the Land” March 12th, 2023 Follow along in the Bible App: https://bible.com/events/49043607 We come to another passage of Scripture today that reflects the kindness of GOD towards the Israelites. However, the narrative starts rather grim due to the fact that the people of Israel have, yet again, devolved into rebellious behavior and are doing evil in the LORD’s sight. As a result, they suffer ruthless oppression from a group of Canaanite people under the leadership of a king named Jabin. However, it in the midst of their suffering that the people of Israel begin to cry out for GOD’s help – and out of His loving-kindness for them – sends them leaders to redeem them from the clutches of their oppressive captors. Let’s take a closer look:

In Judges we meet the characters Deborah, a prophetess, and Barak, called to lead Israel's army. But the story of these people and those around them, doesn't work out quite how we might expect it. What can God do with a woman, a tent peg, hammer and a plan?
What can God do with a woman, a tent peg, hammer and a plan?
We take up the story of Deborah and Jael, two women who upend the conventional church model of Godly women. Deborah is judge. prophet and warrior. Jael has an unusual notion of maternal hospitality. And because we are a men's podcast, we also consider Barak, Deborah's reluctant general. Was he stymied by analysis paralysis? Was he afraid of battle? Or did he just not like taking orders from a woman? Mike, on the other hand, thinks he deserves more credit for his courage, Listen and judge for yourself. In our series called “What the What?” we hand picked some really strange stories in the Bible that might leave you scratching your head. Today we dive into the book of Judges and take a look at Jael “The Tent Peg Assassin”.
Liam Doyle brings us our next in our judges series, a tough and often hard to understand book, but a really valuable one that ultimately points to our need for Jesus! This week we see an insane story, where the hero is an unexpected woman who drives a tent peg through the skull of the enemy. But what should we make of this gory story, and how does it speak to us about following Jesus here and now? To get in touch please visit our web page at lakemacchurch.com.au
It all started with a promise--God's promise to birth a nation through a childless couple: Abraham and Sarah Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:1-3

Today we read about an unusual story that ends with murder with a tent peg. At first glimpse, this story may be hard to find practical application. Yet, it has a profound impact for our life with God.
Sometimes we think we know what the Bible is going to say before we even read it. We see the Bible as pretty strait-laced…good, but predictable. But then we get to the stories we'll look at in this message series…stories that are just plain crazy and we struggle to understand why they are even in God's Word. How did they make the cut? Is it possible that just maybe God is using these crazy accounts to teach us some crazy important things we otherwise might miss? Here's the first question we're going to look at: What do you need to drive a tent peg into? When the battle comes to your house and you have to choose what to do, you'll be glad God included the crazy story of Jael and her tent peg in His Word, because it will give you a roadmap for what to do. Liam Hooper, a Trans Bible scholar, talks about Jael in Judges chapter 4, her famous tent peg, & the naughty unconventional way she uses it. Fierce, subversive, and gender non-conforming, Jael stands as a bold figure in the Bible. Peterson Toscano joins in the discussion then shares an "other" text. He reads a poem by Sapho (ca. 610-580 B.C.E.) from Andrew Harvey's The Essential Gay Mystics. In each episode of Bible Bash Podcast, Peterson, cisgender gay Bible scholar and co-host, trans Bible scholar, Liam Michael Hooper take turns presenting the text. They then discuss. In addition, each episode they present another text, a non-Biblical text of note--religious or secular--that may or may not correspond to the Bible text. Pastor Terry's message is the "The Tent Peg of Jael." The message is from Judges 4:17-23. This year is the "Year of the Tent Peg." It is a year to stake your claim for the future. It is time to drive a tent peg into the mindsets of the enemy so we can realize all God has promised us.
