5 Minute Drill | Avoid this Accountability Mistake

Asking someone else to hold you accountable is a good thing, right? Well, not exactly. If you're anything like me, you've heard some variation of "Accountability is what separates the elite from the average.” So, it seems natural that if you want to win and achieve your goal, you'd approach someone to hold you accountable. I did this for years. But here's the hard truth: If you're relying on others to hold you accountable, you're missing the point of accountability. For years, I believed that accountability meant someone else tracking my progress…reminding me to do the work…pushing me when I slowed down. But after seeing this attempt at accountability fail over and over, I realized the biggest mistake I was making - I was putting the responsibility of accountability on someone else instead of creating a system for it myself. But the good news? I found the fix. In this week's episode of the Coming Up Clutch with J.R.™ show, I break down the one mistake that's holding you back from true accountability and the success you deserve — and then give you a simple strategy to get it right. No more waiting for someone else to chase you down. Elite performers don't ask for accountability — they create an environment where accountability thrives. So, if you're tired of relying on others to keep you in check and you're ready to take control of your success, then lock into this episode. Let's get it! In this episode, you'll hear: Why accountability starts with you How to build a system of accountability that works for you The key steps to creating an environment where you're automatically held to a higher standard How to make sure your performance stays elite—no reminders needed. “Jesus, take the wheel.” No, I'm not admitting I'm a Carrie Underwood fan. I don't know about you, but whenever I hear her song or hear one of my fellow Southern sisters say the phrase, my initial reaction is, “Ha! Easier said than done.” Because us highly driven people LOVE us some control, right? We LOVE the driver's seat…calling all the shots. But here's what I've learned - both from my journey and walking alongside some of the best in the world… The person who thinks he's in control is the one more likely to lose it.  So, today, I'm on the mic with a guy who knows all about the challenge of giving the keys over to God and trusting that He'll get you to where you're supposed to be. Dr. Mary Vieten | Stop Retreating From Your Fear

FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real When I first saw this acronym, a BIG light bulb went off. For the first time, I realized that there's absolutely ZERO truth behind the door of our fear. Although WHAT we fear isn't real, the WHY behind our fear is. …and a lot of it has to do with the lies we believe or the lie-based stories we tell ourselves. So, what do you do when you feel trapped by your fear?   Today's Guest answers this question and then some. This week, I sit down with 22-year U.S. Navy Veteran, Executive Director of Warfighter Advance, and Internationally Recognized Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Mary Vieten. For decades, this woman has helped American war heroes overcome their fears and severe levels of trauma. She's going to break down how we can master ours. Dr. Mary draws from personal stories and real-life experiences while she unpacks a range of topics from hilarious military moments to serious mental health concerns. Join us as we reflect on the strength of overcoming fear and trauma, as well as the significance of showing up for those who come to us in times of need.  If you want to overcome your fears more confidently and consistently, then don't miss today's episode. In this episode, you'll hear: What to do when you feel like you're trapped by your fear. Signs that you're dealing with unresolved trauma. How you could be a better citizen, friend, and family member in today's crazy world. Importance of faith, forgiveness, empathy, genuine relationships, and unconditional positive regard in the healing process. The unfortunate case of a military man's struggle with the mental health system's over-reliance on medication. The power of overcoming fear and trauma and how societal conditioning often instills fear of our own feelings. Dr. Mary's plea to shift from living as human doings to thriving as human beings. Key Quotes When someone is sharing their struggle with you, your first response shouldn't be, ‘You should talk to someone.' It should be to tell yourself to ‘shut up and listen.' - Dr. Mary Vieten Instead of retreating from your fear, look at it. - Dr. Mary Vieten The answers to our challenges are already built into our body and brain - we just don't take the time to access them. - Dr. Mary Vieten We need to be more focused on being human BEings, not human DOings and TALKings. - Dr. Mary Vieten Connect with Dr. Mary Website: www.warfighteradvance.org  Medicating Normal Movie: www.medicatingnormal.com Facebook: @warfighteradvancereintegration | https://www.facebook.com/warfighteradvancereintegration Instagram: @warfighter_advance | https://www.instagram.com/warfighter_advance/ LinkedIn: @warfighter-advance | https://www.linkedin.com/company/warfighter-advance%E2%84%A2/  Connect with J.R.  Facebook: @jamesJRreid Instagram: @jamesjrreid LinkedIn: in/jamesjrreid/ Twitter: @jamesJRreid Website: jamesreid.com Check out The Clutch Club™️: jamesreid.com/club (For Men Only) Follow and Review: We'd love for you to follow us if you haven't yet. How much energy and brain space do your problems and challenges take up? Let's be honest, they take up more space than we typically want to admit. Two approaches usually happen when hurdles pop up:  #1: Complain #2: Do everything humanly possible to find solutions to them (and don't stop until they're solved).  #2 Seems better than #1, right? That's what us high achievers do…we find solutions. But at what cost? Oftentimes, it's burnout. Because we have a tendency to OBSESS about solving our problems, even when it's not our problem to solve. Then we wonder why we have more problems and less blessings in life. In today's 5 Minute Drill, let's talk about how to put yourself in position to receive more blessings in life. There's a key paradigm shift and process surrounding life problems that I want to share with you. On a scale from 1 to 10, how much peace do you have in your life and career right now? (10 = total peace, 1 = minimal, if any) I'm asking because I look at the conversations and headlines around social media these days and I'm seeing a LACK of peace. Even in the conversations I'm having with people around me…pressure seems to be mounting… At home… In the career… With finances… And all the news around the economy and the continued political division with the upcoming election isn't helping. So how do you find peace when all you feel is pressure? I lean in to that question on today's episode of the Coming Up Clutch with J.R.™ show. I sit down with Michele Cushatt - 3-time head and neck cancer survivor, 4-time author, and one of the best communicators and leaders I know. If there's anyone who knows a thing or two about navigating seasons where peace isn't present, it's Michele.  But here's what else Michele knows - how to stay relentless when the fire around you keeps getting worse. Michele and I get real about the challenges of life that we all face. If you want more peace in your life and career, then lock in to today's episode.   In this episode, you'll hear: The role of laughter and humor in overcoming public speaking mishaps and finding common ground for growth. Strategies for transforming uncertainty into momentum and the importance of authentic connections. The intersection of faith, suffering, and resilience, and practices for building faith during tough times. Embracing vulnerability as a means to foster genuine relationships and personal growth. The significance of internal groundedness and having an anchor for enduring peace amidst life's challenges. The impact of showing up flawed and courageous, and how authenticity can lead to greater confidence and authority.   Key Quotes “Pain at any level is a very loud voice that captures our focus and attention and ends up sabotaging our perspective.” “We must believe that our struggle won't be wasted.” “During a challenge, you have two choices: Be defined or derailed by it, or be developed by it.” “People don't connect with perfect performances. They connect with real people.” “Pride is a terrible companion.” “You have to own your own growth. It's no one else's fault or responsibility that you are where you are.” “The secret to peace is finding eyes to see.” “A boat anchored to itself is not anchored at all.” “Peace comes from an internal sense of groundedness, not an external ability to control.” “The moment you think you've arrived is actually the moment you're lost.”   Resources from this Episode Twitter: https://twitter.com/MicheleCushatt  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michelecushatt/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MicheleCushatt  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michelecushatt/  Website: http://www.michelecushatt.com/  A Faith That Will Not Fail: 10 Practices to Build Up Your Faith When Your World Is Falling Apart: https://amzn.to/42DjpvK    Connect with J.R.  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jamesJRreid  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jamesjrreid/  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamesjrreid/  Twitter: https://twitter.com/jamesJRreid Website: jamesreid.com Check out The Clutch Club™️: jamesreid.com/club (For Men Only)   Follow and Review: We'd love for you to follow us if you haven't yet.
