Jeff Gibbs' documentary "Planet of the Humans" is essential viewing. And you can do so for FREE right now by visiting the film's website planetofthehumans.com. We caught up with the film —which is Executive Produced by Michael Moore— last summer at the Traverse City Film Festival.

We hear from Glenn Greenwald about the Intercept's work uncovering a massive judicial corruption scandal at the heart of the Bolsonaro regime in Brazil. Then to lighten things up, we take a look at Mohammed bin Salman's plan to do both the Jetsons AND the Flintstones in the middle of the Saudi desert, and read Toby Young's paean to the overt manliness of Boris Johnson. ABOUT MR. ROOSEVELT In her feature directorial debut, Noël Wells portrays Emily, a talented but hard-to-classify comedic performer who left behind her home and boyfriend to pursue career opportunities in L.A. When a loved one falls ill, Emily rushes back to Austin where she’s forced to stay with her ex-boyfriend (Nick Thune) and his new-and-improved girlfriend (Britt Lower), a totally together woman with a five-year plan. Though Emily is the same, everything else is different: her house has been smartly redecorated, her rocker boyfriend is training to be a real estate agent, and her old haunts show serious signs of gentrification. Holed up in her own guest room, Emily--who has no idea what she'll be doing five days from now, let alone five years--is forced to question everyone's values: are they sell-outs or have they just figured out what makes them happy? And is she following her dreams or is she just a self-absorbed loser? MR. ROOSEVELT premiered to great acclaim at SXSW, where it won the Audience Award in Narrative Spotlight and the Louis Black Lone Star Award, and has continued to garner plaudits on the festival circuit, most recently at Michael Moore’s Traverse City Film Festival, where it won the Founders Prize for Best US Fiction Film. MR. ROOSEVELT is written and directed by Noël Wells, who also stars and serves as an Executive Producer. Michael B. Clark, Chris Ohlson, and Alex Turtletaub produce. Cinematography by Dagmar Weaver-Madsen, editing by Terel Gibson, music by Ryan Miller. MR. ROOSEVELT is distributed by Paladin Pictures. RT: 90 minutes / Not Rated
Leonard and Jessie took their show on the road and broadcast for a live audience at Michael Moore’s Traverse City Film Festival. Their conversation ranges far and wide; one hot topic is the critic’s quandary of swimming against the tide, when everyone seems to like a film more than you do. Audience members chime in with questions, as well, in this lively hour of movie talk.

Eric and Matt are back on the airwaves to round up the last two weeks of creative culture! They recap the 12th annual Traverse City Film Festival, get into the fantastic "The Night Of" now airing on HBO, and look ahead to a few exciting THINGs Just In. For the main event this week, the guys have a bittersweet discussion on the much anticipated "Jason Bourne" and whether or not old J.B. should just stay off the grid and take up a hobby (perhaps golf or woodworking?). Come on down and get a roundhouse punch of ThingPod in your ear!
We are half way through the summer and thought tonight would be a great time to have a quick STR get-together to catch up and talk about what’s new with Stana and each of you. We hope everyone has read or is still reading this summer’s STR Book Club selection, “The Girl on the Train” and will be able to participate in our discussion next month on September 6th. Looks like we also have some more reading with Stana’s recommendations of “Freedom” by Jaycee Dugard and “The Power of the Herd” by Linda Kohanov. So, if you’ve finished “The Girl…” you already have two great recommendations to check out yet this summer. If you were able to attend the “Sister Cities” World Premiere at Traverse City Film Festival – we’d love for you to call or skype in and tell us your thoughts. We ALL can’t wait to see this film along “Lost is Florence” and “The Rendezvous” this fall.
