Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with John Rubinstein, Iconic Stage, Movie & TV Star About Harvey's guests: Today's guest, John Rubinstein, is a highly acclaimed, multi-award winning actor, composer and director whose illustrious career and body of work have made him a respected and beloved icon.   He made his Broadway debut starring in “Pippin”, for which he won a Theatre World Award, followed by “Children of a Lesser God”, for which he won a whole slew of awards including a Tony and a Drama Desk Award.  He also starred in “The Caine Mutiny Court Martial”, for which he received a Drama Desk Award nomination, “M. Butterfly”, “Love Letters”, “Ragtime” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.  Off-Broadway, he starred in “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” and “Counsellor at Law”, for which he received the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Lead Actor in a Play, as well as nominations for both the Outer Critics' and Drama League Awards.   He's appeared in over 200 movies, TV shows, made-for-TV movies and miniseries.  Some of his most popular feature films are “Getting Straight”, “The Boys From Brazil”, “Someone to Watch Over Me”, “Another Stakeout”, “21 Grams”, “The Candlelight Murders” and “Being the Ricardos”.  On TV you've seen him in dozens of TV shows including “Family”, for which he received an Emmy Award nomination, “Crazy Like a Fox”, “Bureau of Alien Detectors”, “Star Trek Enterprise”, “The Young and the Restless”, “Desperate Housewives”, “Dear White People”, “Claws” and many more.    His TV movies include “The American Clock”, for which he received a Cable Ace Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, “M.A.D.D.: Mothers Against Drunk Drivers”, “The Gift of the Magi”, “Norma Jean and Marilyn”, and “Liberace”.   And some of his noteworthy miniseries are “The French Atlantic Affair”, “Roots: The Next Generations”, “The Two Mrs. Grenvilles”, “When we Rise”, “Feud”, and “Headless: A Sleepy Hollow Story”.   He's directed many stage productions, including “Les Liaisons Dangeureuses”, “Macbeth”, “Wait Until Dark”, “Brigadoon”, “Guys and Dolls” and many other shows.  Our guest is also a brilliant composer, which comes as no surprise, given that he's the son of the greatest pianist of all time, in my opinion, Arthur Rubinstein.  And he's the grandson of the renowned Polish violinist, conductor and composer Emil Młynarski.   He's written the music scores for a number of movies and TV shows including “Jeremiah Johnson”, “The Candidate”, “Family”, “The Ordeal of Patty Hearst”, “Johnny Belinda”, “China Beach” and “A Walton Wedding”.  And believe me, I'm just scratching the surface of this man's prodigious body of work. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ To see more about John Rubinstein and the film, go to: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0748270/https://www.playbill.com/person/john-rubinstein-vault-0000020233 #JohnRubinstein    #harveybrownstoneinterviews

The nominations are in for the 96th Academy Awards. And wow, 13 nominations for "Oppenheimer," which of course has been racking up awards at all of the awards shows this season. But the big story for us is the Best Lead Actor category, where Jeffrey Wright ("American Fiction") is up against Colman Domingo Rustin. This is the first time in Oscar history where two Black men have been nominated in this category that weren't named Denzel Washington and Will Smith. And these guys are up against some tough competition with Paul Giamatti in "The Holdovers." My next big hoorah goes to the ladies in the Best Supporting Actress category: Danielle Brooks ("The Color Purple"), America Ferrera ("Barbie"), and Da'Vine Joy Randolph ("The Holdovers"). Both of these categories really represent in terms of diversity. But the talk of the town, of course, is the big snub for "Barbie" director Greta Gerwig and the star Margot Robbie. Both were snubbed for Best Director and Best Actress nods. But I'm very excited for Sterling K. Brown's nomination -- his first for the Best Supporting Category -- also for "American Fiction," which got a nod for Best Picture. I've got to tell you, it is really my favorite for this year. We'll have a lot more on the Oscars as we march on to the date when it airs on ABC. That will be, of course, March 10th. Stay tuned for that. What if instead you could stand out in a crowded field of professionals and be noticed as the real entrepreneur, leader, and talent that you are? Here are some key points from this episode that truly work.Be disciplined. Most entrepreneurs are people of impulse, and most passionate people live by feelings. But those who understand and practice the art of discipline can channel those impulses into something of substance.Know yourself. Get feedback from others and learn as much as you can about how you come across. Then you can accurately target how you appear in a crowd and what you need to work on.Be conscious. Showing up consciously means always being on time, honoring your commitments, and being prepared. Nothing is more powerful than an individual acting out of a well-developed consciousness.Be confident. When you truly believe you can create what you envision, when you're not afraid of the obstacles, that confidence will automatically make you stand out from the rest.WATCH IT ON YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQQHzelWsyqUXmKpVymyWhwWATCH IT ON TIKTOK:https://www.tiktok.com/@thecreativetalkpodcast?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc✅ For business inquiries contact me at thecreativetalkpodcast@gmail.com✅ Let's connect:INSTAGRAM:https://www.instagram.com/thecreativescoopjansantos/FACEBOOK:https://www.facebook.com/thecreativescoopjansantos/

The principal architect of the project was Olivier Vinour of the firm Marye, Alger and Vinour. The design is supposed to replicate an Arabian courtyard, complete with 96 flickering lights and clouds that move across the ceiling. There is an Egyptian Ballroom that is designed after a temple for Ramses II at Karnak while the mezzanine Ladies Lounge features a replica of the throne chair of King Tut and makeup tables that feature tiny Sphinxes. The theater opened on December 25, 1929, just two months after the stock market crash. Originally build for the shriners, when the project went over budget, they leased the building to William Fox, a movie mogul who was building theaters around the country at the time. The theatre closed December, 1932, 125 weeks after it opened due to the Shriners defaulting on the mortgage and Fox going bankrupt. It was purchased by Paramount Pictures and Lucas & Jenkins, a Georgia company that owned a hundred theatres. In the 1940's the Fox because one of the most popular locations, with the Egyptian room drawing big bands and country and western swing bands of the era. It was notable for being the only club in Atlanta at the time that would allow both black and white patrons. Though still segregated, with a seperate entrance that still remains today at the back of the theatre for historical purposes. The Fox would fully integrate in 1962 In the 70's there was a decline in the theatre attendance, and was almost sold to AT&T with plans to tear it down and put a parking deck in its place, but was ultimately subverted by a group and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in May 1974. Celebrities that assisted saving the Fox include Liberace and Lynyrd Skynyrd (recording their first live album there and debuting guitarist Ed King's replacement, Steve Gaines, to the world). The U.S. Department of the Interior subsequently named the Fox a National Historic Landmark on May 26, 1976, citing its architectural uniqueness. Currently, the Fox is the only remaining movie palace in Atlanta, being run by the non-profit group, Atlanta Landmarks, Inc. An estimated 750,000 people visit the Fox every year. The venue was the site of Prince's final performance, held one week before his death on April 21, 2016. Notable acts who have played the Fox are Elvis, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Marley, Pearl Jam, the Allman Brothers, Ray Charles, James Brown, B-52s, A fun bit of trivia... When the shriners built the theatre, they built a 3,640 sq/ft office space in the theatre that was converted into an apartment that Joe Patten, the technical director from 1974 to 2004, occupied with a rent free lease for life. Patten died in 2016. Since then, the space has been unoccupied, but there is a passageway leads from the bedroom to a former spotlight platform at the top of the auditorium. Thoughts and impressions of the Fox theatre? Would you visit again? Special thanks to Megan George and Aly Grubb for the media tickets they gave us, they were fantastic seats.  Letterkenny Live Produced by New Metric media Staring:Jared KeesoNathan DalesK. The dates were not announced to be rescheduled on July 19, 2021. Based on the show of the same name, the stage performance consists of some old, reworked, and new sketches with the cast. Including a set of stand up by Mark Forward and K. Trevor Wilson... and as themselves, not in costume. Which is funny because they reference the actors may resemble the characters. Letterkenny, the tv show, debuted on Crave tv in canada in Feburary 2015, which was based on the YouTube channel Keeso developed called Letterkenny Problems. It arrived in the US in July 2018 on Hulu who now owns exclusive distribution rights in the US. Its been nominated and won numerous Canadian screen awards, including best comedy series, best directing for Jacob Tierney (who directs all the episodes of Letterkenny), Best Lead Actor for Jared Keeso, even technical awards like best editing and best photography for the Sleepover episode. Back to Letterkenny live, Mark Forward, as Coach, welcomed everyone to the show and then informed us that due to an injury, Taylor Johnston who plays Stewart will not be performing that night... Which prompts some boos, and I yelled that it's fucking embarrassing... Which Coach agreed with. Roald then comes on stage and addresses the crowd, being weird and funny, then the hicks start coming on stage. Staring with Squirrely Dan, followed by Katy, then Dary, finally Wayne enters to thunderous applause. They do some back and forth, and crowd interaction with How're ya now? The crowd yells back, Good'n you?! It was fun. They exit the stage and Reily and Jonesy come on and do a bit talking about hockey, referencing the Atlanta Thrashers hockey team, when we hear Shoresy start chirping them from the toilet as he did in the show... But Shorseys chips also work in local attractions and themes, like coke and hot chicken. This goes for a bit, as usual, but its very engaging and works well. I feel there were more sketches, just a little cross over stuff. Roald then introduces Mark Forward to do a small set of stand up. His humor is very misdirectional, like when he walks on stage, he says things like, "yes, thank you, I'm very good." His set was funny, but I honestly don't remember much from it, but he ended it was a joke/song that he admitted before he started that it was "stupid" Xavier McCutchins, who named bears until the end. After Mark finished, another hick skit ened with Coach telling the hicks people want to see the classics. They started updating the crowd on what everyone else in Letterkenny is upto, also giving the crowd a sneak peek to season 11, and showing a cold open to an episode. They moved to an intermission, during which we were able to move everyone from our original seats to about 7 rows back, right in the center. It was awesome. Going into the second half, they continue giving humorous updates to other characters in letterkenny, as well as showing a preview for Shoresy, and a blooper reel for S10. Followed by K. Trevor Wilson coming on and doing a stand up set. His standup is totally different from Mark Forward, and Squirrely Dans character. His long form, informal storytelling type of jokes were a change of pace. We got another skit of Reilly and Jonesy being chirped by Shoresy, again throwing in references to Atlanta like the Varsity and chili hotdogs. And coach drunkenly talking about barb. The final skit brought back one of the best bits from the show, when the whole cast comes on stage making porn sounds, yes yes yes yes yesing and "aw fuck, aw fuck." The lights go out, the cast had a group hug, as they did their curtain call, they introduced themselves and each said something they loved about Atlanta. Two final bows, and they exit stage right. Lights up, and the show is over. Thoughts on the show? While we try to make this podcast diverse year-round, we always shine some extra light on black cinema in February and 2021 is no different. For our first episode of Black History Month, we're looking at the films that lead to the first black winners of Best Lead Actor and Best Lead Actress. First we have Sidney Poitier's winning performance in the passion project Lilies of the Field in 1963. It's an incredible, much deserved achievement that serves as a landmark moment in film history. Then we have the 2001 indie film Monster's Ball that gave us a slew of great performances, but none as powerful as Halle Berry's portrayal of Leticia. Berry won for this performance and herself made history as the first black actress to do so. Enjoy!

ACT: a new podcast series with host Dawn A. Westbrook about the craft of acting, the art of directing and embracing the proce

Born in the small town of Lubbock, Texas, Steven Skybell knew at the age of 10 as Pavel the peasant boy in the local theatre version of Fiddler on the Roof that the stage was where he belonged. A graduate of both Yale University's undergraduate and graduate theatre studies programs, in 1988 Steven stepped right off the stage at Yale Repertory and onto the boards at the Neil Simon Theatre for his broadway debut in Eugene O'Neill's Ah, Wilderness! Classically trained in Shakespeare, ironically Steven does not think of himself as a musical theatre performer. But to everyone else? His performance as Tevye in the Yiddish version of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF directed by Joel Grey is a tour de force and the performance of a lifetime. The show was sold out and seen by celebrities and politicians such as Hillary Clinton, Hugh Jackman, Baryshnikov, Lin-Manuel Miranda (to name a few). The production won the 2019 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Revival, the 2019 Critics Circle Special Citation Award and Steven won the 2019 Lucille Lortel for Best Lead Actor in a Musical. The show was the brain child of both Joel Gray and the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene's (NYTF) Artistic Director, Zalmen Mlotek. Steven has appeared on broadway in shows such as, Love! Valour! Compassion!, WICKED, and The Full Monty. He and his husband, Michael Cole (who is Stephen Schwartz's personal assistant), live a couple of hours north outside the city in a little town known as Mahopac, NY. They have 2 children "fur babies" named MacKenzie and Caleb both are Blue Merle Australian Shepherds. If you ever find yourself on the lake in this lovely little hamlet, you might even see Tevye slaloming across the wakes and doing some tricks.I will tell you that that Steven is as lovely to converse with as he is on stage. Honest. Charming. Kind. Funny. Interesting. He says the trick to acting is If the thought is clear then the actor's message will get across. Steven Skybell is truly a very rich man!

Hi everyone! Welcome back for another week of reviews! This week, we have so much in store for everyone! I’ll get to today’s exciting Sponsor Sunday review in a bit, but that’s just one of seven amazing reviews for you this week. Tomorrow, Ryan L. Terry returns for Matinee Monday with a review for the comedy horror reboot, BLUMHOUSE’S FANTASY ISLAND. Tuesday, the Comics in Motion Podcast return to cover the DCEU’s latest entry, BIRDS OF PREY. On Wednesday, I’ll be reviewing the low-budget, independent thriller TURBINES, featuring interview segments from writer/director Igor Breakenback. On Thursday, Christina Eldridge returns with her review of the latest GKIDS distribution, RIDE YOUR WAVE. On Friday, Andrew Campbell returns with his review of Shudder Exclusive BLISS. And I round out the week with a Chinese animated film called HAVE A NICE DAY, as part of our Under the Kanopy series. But today is Sunday, and more importantly, Sponsor Sunday, thanks to the monthly contribution by Ken at the Ocho Duro Parlay Hour. Sponsor Sunday is one of the benefits you receive when you sign up as a sponsor at patreon.com/onemoviepunch, where you get to force me to review a film of your choice, as long as we haven’t reviewed it yet, with just a few exceptions. Honestly, I’m really starting to wonder if people don’t realize what forcing actually means, because you do NOT have to force me to watch 2008’s THE DARK KNIGHT, easily one of my favorite films with one of my favorite performances. I also have a fun story about catching the midnight showing, and the power of avoiding trailers. But that’s not all! Over at patreon.com/onemoviepunch, we just posted our next installment in “One Movie Punch Presents: Zero Percent”, where I review films which have acquired the lowest possible rating at Rotten Tomatoes. This installment we look at 10 MINUTES GONE (2019), a crime thriller that didn’t fare well with the critics at all. The review is available publicly for a limited time, but you can maintain access by contributing to One Movie Punch at any level. And then you can participate in Sponsor Sundays. Also, check back next week for our full interview with Igor Breakenback for his most recent feature film, TURBINES (2019). Subscribe to stay current with the latest releases. Contribute at Patreon for exclusive content. Connect with us over social media to continue the conversation. Here we go! ///// > ///// > ///// Today’s movie is THE DARK KNIGHT(2008), the landmark comic book film directed by Christopher Nolan and written for the screen in collaboration with Jonathan Nolan, based on a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer, based on the characters by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Jerry Robinson. In the wake of BATMAN BEGINS, Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) has escalated his campaign as The Batman against the criminal underworld of Gotham, while a new District Attorney named Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is putting mobsters behind bars in the courts. But when a mysterious new criminal shows up, inspired by the actions of The Batman, he begins to change Gotham for the worse, one terrorist act at a time. Oh, we’re definitely spoiling things. I mean, how have you NOT seen this film? I love the midnight showing. It used to be that the midnight showing was for the limited run independent feature, or the classic throwback picture, usually with a raucous, slightly intoxicated crowd. Eventually, the distributors and theaters got wise to this social phenomenon and started offering midnight premieres for blockbusters. My first taste of this STAR WARS: EPISODE I – THE PHANTOM MENACE, in 1999, which could have had a better theater and a better movie, but I loved it. It wasn’t until I moved to Denver, and was working in Los Angeles, that I saw more of the independent fare. Two years of midnight showings, whenever practical, and back then, I had all the energy in the world. And then a kid showed up and I spent more time as a parent and settling into a new job. It was the beginning of my second major movie drought, where I mostly watched films on DVD, and before online streaming was really a thing. I sure as hell missed BATMAN BEGINS in the theaters, with a one year old, a busy job, and frankly, not enough desire to see what the guy who did MEMENTO might do with Batman. I mean, I saw INSOMNIA, and it wasn’t as mind-blowing. What could Nolan possibly do? And a bunch of other things I told myself, because what I really wanted to do was get out of the house. The folks who saw it seemed to like it, though, and I just missed making it to the theater before the longer wait for DVD. My life got a little easier a few years later, though, and I went back to watch BATMAN BEGINS via rental before organizing a bunch of friends for a midnight showing at our local IMAX theater for THE DARK KNIGHT. We went out for drinks, then made our way to the theater, and settled in for what I hoped would be at least as good as BATMAN BEGINS. And I walked out of the film at the end completely and quite literally speechless. If you haven’t been able to tell on this podcast, I generally have a lot to say. So, to leave a theater speechless, born out of complete admiration, means something phenomenal has happened. The last time this happened to me was the first time I walked out of JURASSIC PARK, completely in love with the film, and returning to see it in the theater about eight times, most of which were packed weekend dollar showings. I wouldn’t have the luxury of doing that for THE DARK KNIGHT, no matter how much I wanted to, but I did sneak back a second time for the details I missed picking my jaw up off the floor. I spent a full week processing how great it was, and not being able to communicate how great it was to anyone. It wasn’t just that I was afraid of giving away spoilers. I didn’t have the critical vocabulary to describe what I had just seen, nor did anyone I know understand Batman the way comic book nerds did. Geek culture hadn’t quite hit its crescendo in 2008, so when most people thought about Batman, they thought about four properties: the original Batman television show; the original, fragmented, and flawed film franchise; “Batman: The Animated Series” and its successors; and the aforementioned BATMAN BEGINS. Most people who were Batman fans didn’t even read the comic books, or not as obsessively as I did. My uncle would feed me trade paperback at birthdays and holidays, including “Batman: The Killing Joke” and “The Dark Knight Returns” and a host of others. I picked up a few series, even, before I had to ship off to college. I knew I didn’t want a Nicholson repeat, or a cartoon Joker. I wanted the real deal, from the comics I loved, and I was convinced a PG-13 rating just wasn’t going to cut it. I didn’t know how to communicate that to anyone. And luckily, I wouldn’t have to, because the Nolan Brothers would do just that. If there’s one thing I admired with BATMAN BEGINS, it’s that they didn’t lead with the Joker, but made it that exciting teaser bit at the end. As mentioned in my review for JOKER (Episode #630), Joker wasn’t really intended to have an origin story, at least not Jerry Robinson’s version. Joker just explodes on the scene as a full-blown psychopath before the Comics Code took the sting out of him. The Nolan Brothers take the same approach to Joker, swooping in to thrive on the chaos created by Batman’s campaign against organized crime. The opening sequence gives us a taste of what Joker has in store for Gotham thematically, setting his fellow bank robbers against each other with their greed, and revealing his motivations are not guided by money or even power. It also gives us an idea of how this war will be waged, with very real modern weapons and none of the circuses, clowns, or playing cards of the previous renditions, aside from the wry masks they are all wearing. Most importantly, it brings the story back down to the street level, where Batman flourishes best. Let’s face it, when the Justice League gets together to square off against the world-destroying entities that threaten the planet, you kind of wonder why Batman and Green Arrow are even on the team compared to the rest of the superheroes. I mean, aside from their multi-billion dollar fortunes depending on the timeline and incarnation. I always think Batman looks a little stupid against those massive threats, which is part of the reason BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE never really sat well with me, despite pulling heavily from “The Dark Knight Returns”. Opening with a bank heist and keeping the scope of each target or objective relatively narrow throughout THE DARK KNIGHT only enhances the believability, and with that firm base in realism, we get to go on the ride of a lifetime. Clearly the major star of this picture was Heath Ledger as Joker, for which he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor posthumously, but not undeservedly. Ledger made his own Joker, taking the thematic influences for the script, and developing a character that I still cannot believe was played by the same guy who was William Thatcher in A KNIGHT’S TALE. His speech and mannerisms and entire performance combines with the incredible costuming and make-up to make a perfect character, which the Nolan Brothers then take him through a genius script. I actually argued at the time that he should have been put up for Best Lead Actor, but that was probably my heart talking more than my head. Little did I know that would come later for Joaquin Phoenix. The rest of the cast is also great, building off the genius casting for BATMAN BEGINS, with the obvious and unavoidable anomaly of Maggie Gyllenhaal taking over Rachel Dawes, after Katie Holmes declined to return. With the exception of a few lines where Bale can’t breathe through the mask, nearly everything is perfect. I’m not sure how many times I’ve seen this film. I must have watched it at least ten times when I got the DVD, and then our family went through the whole trilogy one summer with our daughter. But each time I watch it, I see different things. This time around, I was struck by how each scene reflected the main character, with stark, empty spaces for Bruce Wayne/Batman; crowded, chaotic places for Joker; and destroyed places when we too briefly get to see Aaron Eckhart’s Two-Face. I also loved the humor, which poked fun at BATMAN BEGINS in some funny ways, along with the property as a whole. I laughed out loud when Alfred realizes he’ll end up being an accomplice, and Bruce quips he planned to say the whole thing was Alfred’s idea. For me, the mark of a truly great film is one that you can watch over and over again and continue to discover new things. Christopher Nolan has spent a lifetime building a filmography of truly great films. THE DARK KNIGHT is such a great second act film that I wish we would have had a few more films before ending on THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. A Nolan Riddler, or a Nolan Poison Ivy all have a lot of potential. But I wouldn’t trade any of Nolan’s recent work for those films. And I suspect that would have been the price for such fantasies, aside from the coming comic book film avalanche. I will continue to re-watch this film and will continue to find new things about it that I like, as all great art does. I came to understand film better because of THE DARK KNIGHT, and this past viewing has shown me that I still have things to learn. THE DARK KNIGHT is probably the greatest comic book movie ever made, a near perfect adaptation of source material for the modern era, proving comic book movies could be something truly profound. The Nolan Brothers would return for an excellent second act film, building off their work on BATMAN BEGINS, and providing a backdrop for one of the greatest performances of all time. I would recommend this film to everyone, as many times as possible. Rotten Tomatoes: 94% (CERTIFIED FRESH) Metacritic: 84 (MUST SEE) One Movie Punch: 10/10 THE DARK KNIGHT (2008) is rated PG-13 and is currently playing on Netflix and Roku.

Jordan most recently starred in Marvel’s Black Panther for which he received critical acclaim for his role as Erik Killmonger. It marked Jordan’s third feature directed by Ryan Coogler. The film was released by Walt Disney Studios in February 2018 and went on to make over $1.3 billion worldwide. In 2015, Jordan starred in MGM and Warner Bros.’ Creed alongside Sylvester Stallone and Tessa Thompson. For his performance directed by Coogler, Jordan garnered numerous accolades including the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture and the NAACP’s Entertainer of the Year Award. Jordan will reprise his role as Adonis Creed and serve as an executive producer in Creed II, which is set to release on November 21, 2018. Later this year, Jordan is set to begin production on the upcoming Warner Bros. legal drama Just Mercy, directed by Destin Crettin. Based on the book Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption, Jordan will play Bryan Stevenson, a gifted young lawyer’s defense of the most vulnerable in our country and his fight for equal justice in a flawed legal system. Additionally, he will star in 20th Century Fox’s A Bittersweet Life, an action-thriller remake of the cult classic 2005 Korean film, and will reteam with Coogler in Wrong Answer, which follows the true story of how Atlanta high school educators participated in an intricate, systemic standardized-test cheating scandal in 2013. Jordan garnered industry-wide attention for his breakout role in Fruitvale Station, which won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at Sundance Film Festival in 2013 among other accolades that year. The film, which marked his first collaboration with Coogler, is an account of Oscar Grant's controversial slaying by police officers on a San Francisco train platform. For his performance as Oscar, Jordan took home the award for Breakthrough Actor at the 2013 National Board of Review Awards, the 2013 Gotham Award for Breakthrough Actor and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Lead Actor. In 2016, Jordan launched his own production company, Outlier Society Productions, with a multiyear first-look deal with Skydance Media. Jordan is currently executive producing and will guest star in the sci-fi hour-long series Raising Dion, which has a straight-to-series order from Netflix. Through Outlier Society, Jordan will make his feature film directorial debut and produce the film adaptation of the David Barclay Moore novel, The Stars Beneath Our Feet. ***This is a Spoiler Free Episode*** It’s our 2017-18 Best Lead Actor Overview, and we avoid all spoilers. Twitter Update (Our new handle is at MMandOscar - Please follow.) WHY HE’LL WIN/ WHY HE’LL LOSE THE 2017/18 BEST ACTOR OSCAR: Timothee Chalamet - 3:52 Daniel Day-Lewis - 13:27 Daniel Kaluuya - 23:51 Gary Oldman - 30:00 Denzel Washington - 36:38 Perfecting Perfection - 41:50 Final Thoughts - 50:56 Here’s our overview of this year’s Best Actor category. The format is simple. We make the case for and against each of the 5 nominees. Then we rank them in a segment we call Perfecting Perfection. Mike No. 1 has the intro flow of his life, and then we dive right into some big questions. Does Armie Hammer’s snubbing help or hurt Chalamet’s chances at the Oscar? Is he too young to vote in his favor? Will Kaluuya and Chalamet split the new Academy vote? What is Daniel Day-Lewis’ real life persona?? What can derail the favorite, Gary Churchill at this stage? And who’s the best actor of this generation, Denzel or DDL? Also Mike explains why he’s so obsessed with Phantom Thread, both Mikes gush over how versatile Daniel Kaluuya is, Mike No. 1 does another Oscar Level impression of the best line from Darkest Hour, and we both wonder if Roman J Israel Esq is a good enough film to give Denzel a chance at redemption after last year’s denial for Fences. This episode is filled to the brim. Enjoy. Feel free to chat with us on social media. We’re on Twitter, and we’ll be LIVE TWEETING the BAFTA’s this weekend. We’re also on Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, and Gmail. Do please continue to help us spread the word about our show and remember, we’ll be going strong after the big night. Of course, we’ll have multiple recaps of the Academy Awards. Then we’ll transition you into the next year by previewing the upcoming slate of 2018 movies, predicting next year’s Oscars, we’ll have Movie Events & Early Bird Oscar Profiles where we review current films, Netflix Quarterly & updates on the streaming world of film, Hollywood Hot Take episodes where we cover and comment on the Hollywood news of the moment, and of course, we’ll mine Oscar History for lots of great audio entertainment in our retrospectives. All that and more we can’t yet talk about, so do stay tuned. A Black Panther review and Best Supporting Actress pods are coming. Don’t forget to tweet with us during the BAFTA’s, and as the news of the world continues to spiral down a toilet bowl, know that when reality sucks, you can watch movies with us. We’re Mike, Mike, and Oscar. Thanks for listening.

James Wilder is that rare breed of artist that is not drawn to the flame of fame and fortune but rather the exhilaration of a new challenge. Committing only to that which truly inspires him -- be it a film, TV or stage role, designing award-winning Hollywood Hills homes or an exclusive line of leather jackets and jewelry -- Wilder has been successfully merging creative spirit with entrepreneurial instincts since his early teens. It was then that he first discovered he could earn more money as a fire-eating/knife-throwing street performer than bagging groceries. And it was far more fun.  Almost always judicious in his career decisions, it’s been a while since Wilder found a project compelling enough to distract him from his other ventures.  But the opportunity to play a duplicitous washed up screenwriter in the soon-to-be-released indie psychological thriller “3 Holes And a Smoking Gun” (formerly titled “Three Holes, Two Brads, And a Smoking Gun”) was just too juicy a role to pass up.Co-starring Joaquim de Almeida, Rudolf Martin, and Richard Edson, “3 Holes And A Smoking Gun” has since accrued a slew of awards -- including the “Grand Jury Prize” and “Best Lead Actor” (Wilder) at the 2014 Red Dirt International Film Festival, "Best U.S. Narrative Feature Film" at the 2014 Laughlin International Film Festival, and “Best Screenwriter” (Scott Fivelson) at the 2014 Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles. The film also screened at the Winter Film Awards in NYC (Feb 26, 2015) where Wilder took Best Actor, and will screen at the Garden State Film Festival (March 19-22) in Atlantic City prior to its early spring theatrical release.
