Editor - Eric Kissack, ACE THE STUDIO editor Eric Kissack began journey his journey with series co-creator and star, Seth Rogen, on the Sasha Baron Cohen film, Bruno. From there their partnership would continue, spanning projects like Sausage Party, Black Monday and others. For their current project, they would be working closer than ever before, as Seth's vision for THE STUDIO necessitated Eric's presence on set, fostering a tighter creative process that brought editorial not only on location, but into aspects of prouction. Episode 337: President and CEO Danny Liedka is in his sixth year at the helm of Visit Syracuse, Onondaga County's official tourism promotion agency. Visit Syracuse plays a critical role in the county's economic development strategy through its focus to grow the area's business of leisure tourism, meetings & conventions, sporting & special events, and film/television production. Through his work, Danny has strengthened the organization's ties with elected officials and community leaders to ensure resource development, overall strategic direction, and quality programming to the region. While under his leadership, the organization has successfully restructured to handle the effects of COVID-19 on the hospitality and tourism industry, moved into a new downtown office space, and brought in and expanded the Visit Syracuse Film Office. Liedka also has seen convention sales increase by nearly 85% during his tenure. During Danny's tenure, the Visit Syracuse organization has seen several major conventions return to the area and has undergone several marketing initiatives to better promote the region and partners, including a completely redesigned website, an increase in video production promotion, and a newly designed Visitors Guide. Danny has several years of experience in a variety of tourism and hospitality roles, including Senior Sales Executive at Marriott International and Sales Manager at the Double Tree Hotel Syracuse. He holds several awards recognizing him for sports, sales, and marketing efforts. Before joining Visit Syracuse, Danny was a former Onondaga County Legislator District 7 (2012-2017), having served as Chairman of the Health Committee, Budget Task Force, and Vehicle Use Review Board. In addition, he was the former mayor of the Village of East Syracuse (2007 – 2013). Danny has written award-winning legislation that addressed the quality of life in his Village. Danny is on the East Syracuse-Minoa School District Wall of Distinction for his contribution and achievements in the community. The Visit Syracuse president was also an on-air television commentator at Time Warner Cable Sports Channel, Big East Network, YES Network, and ESPNU, as well as a game radio host for Syracuse University Basketball on Clear Channel Radio. Danny is a recipient of the ACE Award, which is the cable television equivalent of an Emmy for excellence in sports broadcasting. Danny is also an ABCA Certified Professional Baseball Coach, Coaches at Sports Zone Baseball Academy, and is the current president of ESM Little League. He and his wife, Kim, and three children, Luke, Jack, and Hannah, and k9 partner Milla reside in East Syracuse. On this episode of Destination on the Left, I talk with Danny Liedka about the importance of showing the authentic experience of the destination through storytelling done by real people and how Visit Syracuse does that via their photo and video library. We also dive into how to forge tighter relationships with stakeholders and some transformational projects coming to Danny's community right now. What You Will Learn in this Episode: How Danny went from a successful career in Politics to becoming the CEO of a destination promotion agency The importance of building a mutually supportive relationship with stakeholders Why learning to communicate effectively using the right language can help your organization access more opportunities How Danny and his team put together proposals that helped Syracuse win recent transformational projects — the new aquarium, a road project that will change the walkability and accessibility of downtown, and a major employer choosing Syracuse as look the location for their new manufacturing facility Why having the right people on your team is critical to your success Building a Great Team Creating a solid team and fostering a positive work atmosphere has been a priority for Danny as a leader. While he recognizes that Visit Syracuse may not always be able to compete with private sector jobs in terms of financial compensation, he believes that by going the extra mile for his employees, they can minimize the importance of money in their overall job satisfaction. One way Visit Syracuse achieves this is by offering special perks and benefits, such as the ability to work from home. Danny explains why even before the COVID-19 pandemic, they had already implemented a remote work policy, which proved valuable when the crisis happened and allowed them to hit the ground running. Showcasing Authentic Experiences People crave genuine experiences and prefer seeing real individuals rather than staged content. When Danny and his team realized this, they decided to invest in various initiatives, such as professional photography and partnering with an agency that could help them source a vast collection of authentic images. By showcasing real-life experiences in Syracuse, they aimed to establish an emotional connection between their audience and their brand. Recognizing the power of video as a storytelling medium, Danny made it a priority to excel in this area. If you explore Visit Syracuse's recently launched website, you'll notice a strong emphasis on video content, immersive experiences, and captivating narratives. This approach has allowed them to build a dedicated following and stay ahead of the curve, ensuring they are proactive rather than playing catch up with industry trends. Danny's Best Practices for Collaboration When seeking the right partners, making everything about them and creating a likable connection is important. Show them a problem they may be unaware of and position yourself as the solution. Understanding their communication styles and needs, and adapting your approach accordingly, is crucial. Effective communication and listening skills play a significant role in establishing successful partnerships. By embracing these principles and focusing on the partner's needs, you can build strong relationships and achieve mutual success. Welcome back to another killer episode. This one will certainly not disappoint especially for my TV, VoiceOver and theater peeps. Join me as I sit with the incredible Ace award-winning talents of Rolonda Watts. Listen in as she talks about the hidden agendas and the manipulation of words by the powers that be to entice racism, skepticism and miss information just for the sole purpose of sensationalism just to grow followers and ratings and how it's destroying the integrity of real journalism. We talk about how tricky it can be to navigate between the gifts that we desire to do and what we're destined to do and to continuously check in with yourself and prioritize what is truly important in your life right now to avoid getting trapped in the illusion of perception as seen through the eyes of social media. Finally we discuss the importance of telling the truth but even more importantly telling honest and good stories that change laws, educate and change minds as Rolonda has successfully done by not being afraid to talk about controversial topics like pedophilia, white supremacy, and hidden agendas used for separation which is evidently destroying the unity of the world.

The hard work and dedication Douglas has exhibited in his many years of business has brought him widespread recognition and awards. He has been awarded the ACE Award through American Classic Agency for four consecutive years. National Life Group has recognized him as a Chairman's Club Qualifier and Diamond Club member, a significant recognition reserved for the company's top insurance representatives throughout the nation. Douglas is a distinguished member of the exclusive Million Dollar Roundtable, an organization of notable financial representatives. He was awarded the 2013 EPNET Male Entrepreneur of the Year in addition to being nominated among the Top 100 Financial Advisors of 2013 by the International Financial Leadership Association (IFLA). His passion for this industry is what is behind his belief that Largo Financial is “where financial dreams come true.” Largo Financial Services' mission is to help clients discover their path toward wealth and financial independence by improving their financial intelligence. Key Takeaways: Personal branding builds strong relationships - Clients wanted to work with Douglas because they trusted him specifically, not the company he was working for. This made him realize he could start his own company and entrepreneurial journey because his personal branding was so strong. A good company invests in its staff - Douglas's company “Largo Financial Services” is so successful because he ensures his employees are always getting continuous training and education. He provides room for his staff to build a “franchise within a franchise” and create their own personal branding within the company. People are always watching - Whether they make it known to you or not, people are always observing your every move and action. Be sure to act in a way that makes others recognize you for how you want to be seen. Words of advice for success - In order to succeed, stay consistent with your efforts by focusing on your goals. Never cheat anyone or step on others to get to the top, and don't be envious. Try to give back when you can and remember that you control money, not the other way around. Create a solid income foundation - Having multiple income streams is the dream, but you must have strong foundational income first or else you'll ultimately fail. Douglas is known as the Wealth Strategies and Generational Wealth Creation Expert, a role that serves as his foundation. Thanks to this foundation, he is able to pursue separate income streams like real estate and Airbnb. This conversion of culture and conscious business was so fluid that you would have thought that Kindra and her two guests, Adam and Thomas, had known each other and talked for years. This was the first time we have done a live stream where the guests could listen and post questions on the Culture Crush Business Podcast- and it was awesome! Thank you to all of the listeners that chimed in and posted questions in the chat. Thank you to Phoenix Business RadioX and Conscious Capitalism Arizona Chapter for sharing it out. They were great questions that we went over toward the end of the show. This conversation dove into many stories and examples of the actions and importance for growing a conscious business- even if it seems a little backwards sometimes. For example, Adam discussed how Goodmans Interior Structures no longer requires their office staff to come into the office to work. This might seem a little backwards for a company that builds and sells office furniture. Instead, they are assessing and redesigning the office into a place where employees want to come into the office. They took into consideration what the employees said and wanted and are putting it into action. This conscious business move will help grow and support the needs of the employees, and therefore the overall culture of the company. This conversation is a great one to listen to if you are a leader trying to improve your company culture and wanting to learn more about conscious capitalism and how it can help influence and support the change you are trying to make in your company. According to Thomas, “Consciousness has no finish line” which means we can always learn and add to our growth and our tool box. When it comes to helping companies grow in conscious ways, Thomas is the man for the job. He has supported the growth of various Conscious Capitalism chapters as well as helped over 800 leaders in his program on developing their conscious journey. He gives away a few of these tips in the podcast conversation with Adam as well. Thank you to our sponsor, the Conscious Capitalism Arizona Chapter, for seeing the value in this conversation of conscious capitalism, culture, and these two amazing gentlemen. About the Host Kindra Maples is spartan racer, past animal trainer, previous magician's assistant, and has a weakness for Oreo cookie shakes. Her journey working with people actually started working with animals as a teenager (don't worry we won't go that far back for her bio). She worked for over 15 years in the zoo industry working with animals and the public. Her passion of working with animals shifted into working with people in education, operations and leadership roles. From there her passion of leadership and helping people develop has continued to grow. Then came the opportunity for leading the Culture Crush Business Podcast and she jumped on it. Leadership, growth, and strong company cultures are all areas that Kindra is interested in diving into further.

Hosted by David Green of The Cultural Alliance Of Fairfield County. The Norwalk Art Space – Increasing opportunities and equity in the local arts community Our June program featured The Norwalk Art Space (TNAS), celebrating its first anniversary this month as a 5-star arts center that promotes local artists, offers free art classes to high-schoolers and provides a welcoming space for the public to enjoy the arts and music. It is located in a beautifully renovated Christian Science Church adjacent to Norwalk's Mathews Park. TNAS celebrates its first anniversary with a gala June 23, has just signed an agreement with the Sono Collection mall to host an extension gallery, has just received an Award of Merit from PreservationCT for the quality of the renovation of this historic building, and the visionary founder of TNAS, Alexandra Korry received a posthumous ACE Award from the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County at its 2022 ACE Awards Breakfast this month. Alexandra died shortly before the Norwalk Art Space was opened, and the building, ADK House, is named in her honor. Hear Alexandra's husband and partner in this venture, Robin Panovka speak about the journey to create the Space and how he judges its success; Duvian Montoya, Artistic and Education Director speak about the impact of the first year of TNAS on himself and the community; and hear Lorena Sferlazza, one of the first four "Resident Artists," who taught Norwalk high-schoolers in exchange for a studio in the building speak about its impact on herself as an artist, her students, and the community.
An elder C.S. Lewis looks back on his remarkable journey from hard-boiled atheist to the most renowned Chrsitian writer of the past century. The Most Reluctant Convert features award-winning actor Max McLean as the older Lewis and Nicholas Ralph - breakout star of PBS Materpiece's All Creatures Great and Small - as young Lewis. Beautifully filmed in and around Oxford, this engaging biopic follows the creator of The Chronicles of Narnia from the tragic death of his mother when he was just nine years- old, through his strained relationship with his father, to the nightmare of the trenches of World War I to Oxford University, where friends like J.R.R. Tolkien challenge his unbelief. Norman Stone Norman Stone began his professional career in television as the youngest producer/director to be working at the BBC, and soon established himself as a top film maker with his highly acclaimed film A Different Drummer about the blind and deaf Christian poet, Jack Clemo. Four years later, he created Shadowlands, the gripping film drama on the love and loss of C.S. Lewis, which earned two BAFTA awards, an International Emmy, and the coveted ‘Prague D'or' for Best Director. This film went on to be an award-winning stage play, as well as a Hollywood movie.Other dramas followed included Martin Luther – Heretic, starring Jonathan Pryce; New World with James Fox; The Vision starring Dirk Bogarde, Lee Remick and Helena Bonham-Carter, and the award-winning Burston Rebellion with Eileen Atkins and Bernard Hill. Stone was also asked to direct the internationally acclaimed CBS co-production Pied Piper, starring Peter O'Toole. He then directed two of the famous BBC Miss Marples films, starring the iconic Joan Hickson in the title role, and also, The Black Velvet Gown, which earned him his second International Emmy. Always interested in experimenting with new forms of filmic storytelling, Stone went on to create and direct The Dream of a Ridiculous Man, which starred Jeremy Irons and was nominated for a prestigious ACE Award in the category of Best International Drama. This experience led directly to Tales from the Mad House, an award-winning series of one-man dramas, featuring such stars as Jonathan Pryce, Dame Eileen Atkins, Joss Ackland, Claire Bloom, James Cosmo and Helen Baxendale, before making the gritty, Glasgow feature film, Man Dancin' which collected more international awards.A string of new dramas followed, including C.S. Lewis - Beyond Narnia, Florence Nightingale, The Narnia Code and KJB - The Book that Changed the World (winner of The Templeton, Movie Guide, Epiphany Prize). In 2020, Norman completed a major Feature Documentary narrated by Ewan McGregor, The Final Fix, exploring a remarkably effective new treatment for drug addiction, and in 2021, during lockdown, he wrote and directed a new, creative drama on C.S. Lewis called The Most Reluctant Convert. This film was cinema-premiered in over 500 American cities in November 2021 and has already been seen in over 120 countries around the world.Norman is currently preparing a dramatically challenging feature film, Raising Hell, the true story of the battle to beat child prostitution in Victorian England, and is also developing an exciting, new TV action series, ROK, set in Gibraltar and the Mediterranean.Website: https://cslewismovie.com/Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBd8bYTMoTKlUAk4IVyb16QFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/CSLewisMovieInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/fpa_theatre/IMDB: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBd8bYTMoTKlUAk4IVyb16Q

Animal Planet Considers Us for a Show If you haven't seen The Secret it is in the E Center and it is responsible for us being right on track with our 2006 Vision of having our own local series and a series on the Animal Planet show. Locally, our pro bono CPA is on the board of the Community Network Television channels 19 and 22. They are going to train Jamie in video production and then make her an Associate Producer for the station which gives her use of all of their equipment from cameras to editing and then she can air all of her work on their stations. This is all being done for free. AND… Our pro-bono attorney Russ Alba just got the following email: Subject: Television Series Dear Mr. Alba, Thanks for your time. To reiterate...what we'd like to propose to Animal Planet (Discovery Communications Inc.) is a "fly on the wall" series with "Big Cat Rescue" as our venue. This would entail some considerable shooting over a period of time, giving the audience (hopefully world-wide) a "through the keyhole" look at the sanctuary, the animals and the people who devote themselves to this truly noble cause. The series would ultimately be personality driven, the drama, melodrama, comedic and triumphant moments being drawn from the staff, the volunteers...and of course, the animals. While we have proposed the concept to Animal Planet, we have not been specific with venue and style. The final proposal would be based on our having knowledge of what and with whom we're dealing. If this is of interest to you, let's arrange to meet. As I told you, we have a place on Sand Key...and I'm eager to get a bit of Florida summer in my veins. (How's that for madness!!). Looking forward to hearing from you, Best, Ron Lyon For a bit more about us, I refer you to our web site, www.wizardsofweird.com or check IMDb.com. Their credits include: Lyon produced and directed some thirty 90-minute specials for ABC, including “Organized Crime in America”, “Manson”, “Hitler” “In Search of Howard Hughes” and “Assassinations: An American Nightmare” from which came numerous awards. Included among his many television films are the highly rated “City in Fear”, starring David Jannsen and Mickey Rourke, “Love's Savage Fury”, starring Jennifer O'Neill, Raymond Burr and Perry King, “Sins of the Father” starring James Coburn as well as director Jan Kadar's award-winning film, “The Other Side of Hell” which starred Alan Arkin. As President of Ray Stark's television company, “Rastar” a division of Columbia Pictures, Lyon acquired the vast collection of Robert Ripley's “Believe It or Not!” facts and oddities. In 1981 under the banner of Haley/Lyon/Rastar, Lyon created, produced and directed the Ripley's pilot which spawned the long-running series on ABC starring Jack Palance with Lyon based in Paris as Executive Producer. Subsequent to “Believe It or Not” Lyon's special “Exploring Psychic Powers” hosted by Bill Bixby featuring James Randi and Uri Geller was a huge international success. After a stint at both Universal TV and Kings Road (as President, Kings Road Television) he and his partner Jenny Paschall launched the Nickelodeon series “Beyond Belief!!” which appeared in dozens of countries and was later the basis of a best selling book written by Paschall, published by Random House. Jenny Paschall went on to write 3 more “weird” trivia books: Hatches, Matches and Dispatches, Odd Laws and Brain in a Box. Lyon and Paschall's Discovery series “Would You Believe It??” began as a one-hour special/pilot which received spectacular ratings on its June ‘95 premiere on the Discovery Channel. Produced by Lyon and Paschall, directed by Lyon, and written by Paschall this intrepid team's work continued to run on Discovery through 2004. It can be seen in over 60 countries world wide. Based on the success of “Would You Believe It??”, Lyon and Paschall crafted “Simply Unbelievable” a series which debuted on the Travel Channel in 2001. In addition he and Paschall have created many specials for both Discovery and Travel including “Strangest Remains”, ‘Most Haunted in America” “The Best Places To Find UFOs” and “Most Haunted Journeys.” Today, Lyon continues to produce and direct for cable and television networks worldwide. Paschall co-produces with Lyon, and writes the shows. She is also a regular feature writer for the English paper, The Express on Sunday, specializing in trivia and ghost articles, and she has a regular food column in a New Jersey newspaper. Showtime's Ace Award winner Christmas perennial “Daisies in December” is based on a short story by Paschall. Both Lyon and Paschall, as “experts” in the world of the bizarre and the paranormal, lecture throughout the United States as “The Wizards of Weird”. In addition both continue to conduct seminars on producing, directing and writing at both colleges and high schools. http://www.wizardsofweird.com/bios.php The entire 2006 Vision: 2006: Exotic cats may no longer be sold or traded into canned hunts. Action: Meet with legislators in our area, specifically Mike Bilirakis and Senator Bob Young (head of the appropriations committee) and gather the support of non animal groups, such as the Florida Chamber of Commerce. Big Cat Rescue will become better educated about the legislative process and teach classes on ethics and legislation. We will contact HSUS to find out how the best way to do this will be and to see what training they provide. Big Cat Rescue will train members in ways to gather the information needed to end the cruel trade in exotic cats by demonstrating that so small a percentage of the public approves canned hunts or is supported by canned hunts that the legislation really does represent the majority. The Big Cat Picture will be narrated by a celebrity, widely distributed via sales, public and private showings and the website. We will edit the clips to load faster and play better or switch to streaming media for maximum effect. Big cats will have protection under state laws in all states in that they may not be owned as pets. Action: Big Cat Rescue will provide better state, county and city level resources to educate and enable our expanded supporter base to create laws that better protect the exotic cats. In part this will be on Big Cat Rescue's own Animal Planet program called Big Cat Rescue which will showcase big cat rescues by accredited sanctuaries. These weekly segments will include discussion of all of the issues that exotic cats face, expose the perpetrators and the effect that each person makes with their choices and will be a means by which to broadly spread the message that no exotic cat should be kept as a pet or in a cage. We will film anything and everything that could make for an interesting 30 minute television documentary. Big Cat Rescue will solicit video from other accredited sanctuaries for use in exposing the big cat issues. We will find someone in the film editing industry to help us turn these segments into something saleable to Animal Planet. By suggesting permits, permit fees and substantial fines for non compliance we can insure that the laws have the funding needed to make them effective. Once game farms are no longer licensed to keep exotic cats the exotic cat pet owners who circumvent the pet laws by keeping exotic cats under the guise of a game farm will be unable to renew their permits. This decreases the number of buyers for their offspring significantly. The Sanctuary Standards and Exotic Cat Standards will be accepted as the guidelines for exotic animal care and used as a model for the new laws. Big Cat Rescue will introduce a federal bill to prevent the trade in all exotic cats across state lines as pets. Big Cat Rescue will continue to encourage implementation of the federal bill The Captive Wildlife Safety Act signed Dec. 19, 2003 that makes it illegal to breed, buy, sell or donate a big cat as a pet across state lines. We will continue to research and work on making the breeding, buying and selling of exotic cats at a state level illegal. We will research ways to close the USDA permit loopholes that allow private pet owners to pay $40.00 to call themselves a commercial enterprise in order to circumvent the law.

This bonus episode is a raw recording of my recent appearance at the wonderful event Editfest in Los Angeles where I was on a panel sponsored by Avid Technology titled, “The Extended Cut: How to Survive and Thrive in Editorial.” The panel was moderated by Matt Feury of Avid Technology, and in addition to me the panel also included Lillian Benson, ACE (ACE Officer and co-chair of the diversity committee), Carol Littleton, ACE (Member of the Boards of Governors of the Academy, Past President of the Motion Picture Editor’s Guild, and award-winning film editor), and Andy Seklir, ACE (Award-winning editor of Westworld as well as one of the architects of the “ACE Best Practices” Pamphlet). This panel was a brutally honest and open look at what it really takes to not only survive but thrive in Hollywood as a film editor. We talk about the brutally long hours, bouts with depression and burnout, issues with diversity on both an ethnic and gender level, office politics, and the importance of not letting anyone steal your creative passion. This was a ‘No Holds Barred’ conversation where no topic was too taboo. NOTE: This is a raw recording of a live event so I apologize for any inconsistencies in audio quality. No editing has been done to this recording...this is LIVE and UNFILTERED. Comic Paula Poundstone, a regular panelist on NPR’s “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me,” spent 30 minutes with Tom Hodson stating her opinions on multiple topics from computers, to writing, to her style of comedy, to unusual dog breeds. Besides being a Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me regular, Poundstone had a role in last year’s Pixar movie “Inside Out.” She also is currently writing her second book to be published by Algonquin next January. While doing all that, she still travels the country doing her unique form of stand-up. She said in every show about one-third of it is improvised with interactions between her and her audience. “I never do the same show twice,” Poundstone said. “Every performance is different and unique. It is very interactive.” Poundstone joked that she has the worst record on Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me quizzes because her competitors “cheat” and are on “steroids.” She says her preparation for the show is in direct relationship to the upheavals at her home in a given week. If things are in turmoil then she doesn’t prepare as much as when things are going smoothly, she added. On a serious note, she decries the use of computers in elementary schools and says that we have become “addicted” to electronics. She says that this reliance has a negative impact on children and their brains. Poundstone also described her writing technique and how writing a book is different and much more difficult than writing comedy routines. Poundstone has had an illustrious career. She was the first woman to win the cable ACE Award for Best Stand-up back in 1992 and in 1993, she was the first woman to perform standup at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. She has been recognized as one of Comedy Central’s 100 greatest stand-ups of all time and in 2010, she was selected for the Comedy Hall of Fame.

Film critic David Ansen has had one of the most unique and influential careers in modern entertainment history. He joins his high school classmate Bob and Suzanne in a revealing and engaging conversation that starts with a childhood growing up in Beverly Hills as the son of a Hollywood industry insider. You’ll hear about David’s early fascination with movies and how even as a pre-teen he began documenting that interest as the ultimate “list maker.” Going from undergrad writing studies at Harvard, to life on a commune, and then to writing about movies for Boston’s The Real Paper, David then found himself recommended as film reviewer at Newsweek by no less a luminary that legendary film critic Pauline Kael. During his 31-year career at Newsweek, David Ansen became one of the most powerful voices in modern film criticism. His lifelong love of movies was matched by an insightful worldview and a writing style that made many of his reviews more entertaining than the movies he reviewed. When David Ansen wrote favorably about a movie, people bought tickets. A negative review would often have the opposite effect, although in this conversation David humorously reveals the one film he describes as “an unkillable movie.” With unique industry knowledge and deep analytical perspective, David talks about today’s rise of quality TV shows as compared to the trend toward major studio “franchise” movies which fail to capture his attention. After a career as Senior Editor at Newsweek and writing numerous television documentaries about Hollywood legends Greta Garbo, Groucho Marx, and Elizabeth Taylor--winning the Ace Award for All About Bette Davis—David moved on to work with The New York Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival, and recently served as Artistic Director of The Los Angeles Film Festival. His newest assignment as Lead Programmer for the 2016 Palm Springs International Film Festival guarantees his ongoing influence in the world of serious filmmaking. If you like movies, you don’t want to miss this revealing conversation with David Ansen.

John originally started his descent into helplessness as a stand-up comic before turning to writing because he needed another way to express his depression. He wrote jokes for the likes of Rodney Dangerfield, Johnny Carson, David Letterman, Gabe Kaplan, Elayne Boozler, Billy Crystal, and Joe Piscopo before joining the writing staffs of “Saturday Night Live,” “The Tonight Show,” and “Politically Incorrect.” He was the head writer for critically acclaimed D.C. Follies and has written for sitcoms so bad, to this day, he's too embarrassed to cash the checks. He was, however, the supervising producer of the ACE Award winning “Joe Piscopo Special” on HBO and also produced what the competing networks, said was the best special ever done about stand-up comedy, “Comedy Club Super Stars” on ABC.
