He is well-known here in the UK as a passionate advocate for PANS/PANDAS, and has played a large part in many people's recovery. With the passing of Bill 23 by Ontario Premier Doug Ford, it is becoming even more clear to voters that developers run the Province. Their sphere of influence goes beyond the carving up of the Greenbelt.This episode uses Ontario examples to show how detrimental the relationship between ultra wealthy developers and politicians is to the wellbeing of our communities. It isn't just campaign donations, developers are wining and dining politicians, founding and funding right-wing third party 'advertisers' and clearly writing policies that cater to their every need. Resources linked to the show:Who Control's Toronto - ACORD Report - “In the 2018 Toronto Municipal Election, 34% of all campaign contributions came from people with ties to the development industry” Doesn't think any other industry is as heavily invested in municipal politics Toronto 9 out of 9 Planning and Housing Committee took funds (25%) Pasternack 59% of the funds raised Follow the Money Report - Horizon Ottawa - Nearly half of donations came from folks tied to developers Chair of planning Committee had 96% raised this way Results in bylaws and other things under the control of the local governments to be created/changed to suit developer needs - and contrary to public good. Already normalized rezoning and bylaw amendments. Now they don't even need to do that - leaving local officials unable to push back on critical items (affordable housing, green initiatives) Bill 68 (banned union/corporate donations) BUT: raised individual limits and allowed for 3rd Party Contributions (see ONTARIO PROUD) Ontario Proud's Election Advertising Was Mostly Funded By Developers - Sold as some grassroots campaign to defend Ontario values - really just a few very wealthy donors (87%) “Mattamy Homes, at $100,000; anti-union contractors association Merit Ontario, at $50,000; Nashville Developments, also at $50,000; Opportunities Asia Ltd. at $30,000; and Shiplake Properties Limited at $25,000. Seventeen other companies, mostly related to housing development, donated $10,000 apiece.” Ontario Proud: Takes credit for Doug Ford's win. Boasting that unions spent so much more and got a lesser result. Had ads, lawn signs “Unplug Wynne”. They only need to declare what they raised and spent during a specific time period. Outside that time they can do anything (and do). INVESTIGATION: Developers with ties to Ford government stand to cash in on Hwy. 413 | Canada's National Observer - -Lots of very powerful developers set to profit big time from Highway 413 (which has fierce opposition from environmental critics “Four of the developers are connected to Doug Ford's Progressive Conservative government through party officials and former Tory politicians now acting as registered lobbyists.” Article details these relationships and highlights the key players. All donors of Ontario Proud as well. Project will cost upwards of $10B to save folks (MTO says) 30 minutes of travel. Just so happens one of these developers takes Ford and Lecce to a Florida Panthers game, in a box (but swear no government business was discussed) Provide a map where it shows how PC top donors dot the land associated with the highway. I don't think this points to collusion between the PC Party and developers but of one between capital and anyone in power. This week on 8111, Ellen Pasternack! Ellen grew up in Long Island. As a kid she was an avid reader. She was the youngest person in her town to get a library card. As a young adult she earned a degree in anthropology from SUNY Buffalo in three years time and thought seriously about going to law school. But in 1975, a good friend was traveling to California and Ellen decided join the adventure. In sunny Los Angeles, Ellen quickly landed a job working as a temp secretary at Burbank Studios (now Warner Bros.). She's worked in the movie business ever since. Ellen went to work in the publicity department reading all the scripts of the films coming out at Columbia. She worked as the assistant to the head of marketing. When Ellen's boss, Elizabeth Landon, made the move from Columbia to Fox, Ellen came along and was promoted to Jr. Publicist. While at Fox she met Sid Ganis who was the publicist for Lucasfilm (which would come in handy a few years down the road). Ellen later moved over to Tri-Star Pictures as a Publicity Manager. But within a year she left Tri-Star to work as a Unit Publicist working directly on productions. She worked on several big projects including; Rainman, Born on the Fourth of July (where she even appears as an extra!), The Doors, Class Action, Joy Luck Club, Mrs. Doubtfire, and several others. She also moved up to the Bay Area during this time. In 1994, new tax incentives started to drive production out of the state. Wanting to stay in the Bay Area, Ellen landed the job at Lucas Digital as the in house head publicist. She worked closely at LDL with Miles Perkins and Nagisa Yamamoto. Ellen would work out of ILM for the next 12 years leaving just before the move to the Presidio. Working freelance she did work for the Visual Effects Society, Pixar's Renderman, The Orphanage, Tippett Studios, Rainmaker, and Method Studios. Today, Ellen continues to live in Berkeley. For the past several years she's worked on the awards campaigns for multiple studios and streamers. It was fascinating to hear about Hollywood publicity and the often complex, important work she does for the industry. Ellen is brilliant, thoughtful, kind, and great fun to chat with.

Ok friends of the night, the second year in a row in an incredibly difficult and seemingly extremely unstable time is very soon coming to an end. And thus also one in which nightlife seems to be emotionally lost to us. So today, more than ever, it is important to hold on to every little spark of culture. After a short euphoria in the last few weeks when some clubs started to reopen their doors, they now have to close again, which doesn't make the situation any better. That's why I'm personally glad that so many are continuing on their way and tirelessly keeping the roots and the shoots of our musical culture alive, and I'm personally grateful to everyone for that. Only together can we continue to shape the future musically. And since we're on the subject of culture, let's move on to today's guest, although there are actually two of them again. On the one hand, Andy Vaz, whose unbelievably fantastic and deep sound forms the basis of today's guest DJ set, is supported by Andreas Pasternack, who also enhances the whole thing in a great way with his saxophone. For me, Andy is one of the great music makers in Germany. Now living in Cologne, he started his musical career in the nineties from Düsseldorf. Since '98 he has been personally responsible for several labels and all of them are characterised by deep and minimal techno and house sound. Starting with "Background Records" which released 50 releases between 98 and 2006, featuring a wide variety of great artists, including Akufen, Sutekh, Jan Jelinek, Terrence Dixon and many more. In '99 he founded the sub-label "A Touch of Class", which was known for deep house. From 2000 to 2002 came the short-lived sub-label "Deep Night Essentials" which was known more for minimal techno. And since 2007 he has been running "Yore Records" together with "Alessandro Vaccaro", which is still active today and focuses more on house music by artists such as Rick Wade, Chez Damier, Patrice Scott or Alton Miller. Since 2001 he has already toured 7 times in Japan and performed for the Goethe Institute in numerous Indian cities.  Andreas Pasternack is a jazz musician, entertainer, singer and composer. He has performed in Poland, Belgium, Japan and the USA. He creates his own weekly radio show on NDR 1 Radio MV.
