In this week's Flagship Flashback episode of the Wade Keller Pro Wrestling Podcast from ten years ago (3-19-2013), PWTorch editor Wade Keller is joined by Jason Powell to discuss with live callers the previous night's flat WWE Raw episode including Paul Bearer's death integrated more, Triple H beats down Paul Heyman, the boorish length and cadence of Triple H's talking segment, plus Bully Ray caught spewing anti-gay epithets and how DIxie Carter should and will likely hanlde it, Raw ratings, WrestleMania 29's undercard, Rock vs. John Cena predictions, and more. This includes our previously VIP-exclusive Aftershow.
In this week's Interview Classic episode, we jump back to two interviews from ten years ago (2-6-2013 and 3-6-2013). First up is Wade Keller's interview with TNA President Dixie Carter. Then a bonus interview conducted by PWTorch's Pat McNeill with Gene Snitsky.Carter took live caller questions and email questions about changes in Impact Wrestling, PPV schedule, Jeff Hardy's turnaround, how close TNA has come to going out of business, is it profitable, does she stand by her comment about wrestling fans being like the "40 Year Old Virgin" character, and much more.Snitsky discussed WWE stories, why he left WWE over creative differences, not liking how Tensai is being used, whether he's been asked to be part of Aces & Eights, his big new movie project & personal training career, and much more! In the second-half, PWTorch columnist Sean Radican discusses the latest news with McNeill. And, in the VIP Aftershow, PWTorch assistant editor James Caldwell discusses news, Live Events, National Signing Day, and other topics.
Four of the top names in the company faced off in a World Title main event match with the iconic, legendary Sting at ringside. How could this show NOT be a smash hit!? Well...we'll explain it to you. "Against All Odds" seems to be a metaphore for this company refusing to give up the ghost. It's unkillable! But specifically about show, it seemed like an extended episode of iMPACT!. Sure, Austin Aries tore it up with Alex Shelley and AJ Styles had a decent match with Kazarian. But the story of it all was, "It could have been better." Even Gail Kim vs. Tara was a bit of a miss. There was something a tad off about this, and the company as a whole, in early 2012. We delve into that a bit on this podcast. Also, a scary injury takes place in the opening match of the show. Meanwhile, in the news, we talk about Dixie Carter lying to the world about firing Vince Russo. We also talk about The Rock bringing it...via satellite...before WrestleMania 28. John Laurinaitis is NOT fired, CM Punk is getting a 3-disk DVD set, a Diva gets injured, and there's backstage heat on The Miz. That and much more on this show! This week, we get some big news that a dying man's last wish is for a date with one of the Sugarbaker sisters. But, not the one you'd expect. Spoiler alert: she goes on the date and *gasp* ENJOYS IT! (Not sure we can say the same for us…) In the background, Suzanne's raising money for charity and learning thar's gold in them hills, when she realizes rich people can live in Arkansas, too, and Charlene knows them! Come back for “Extra Sugar” later this week when we finally talk all things Dixie Carter.
The Don Tony Show (1/21/23), hosted by Don Tony and presented by BlueWire. VINCE MCMAHON agrees to pay Millions to former WWF Rita Marie Chatterton to settle accusations of sexual assault from 1986. The Adult Survivors Act passed by New York in 2022 temporarily removed statute of limitations & allowed Chatterton to pursue a civil suit. After predicting this hush money payment (on 12/17/22 DTS), Don Tony received interesting info not yet public about the settlement. McMahon lawyer Jerry McDevitt claims the settlement was to solely avoid litigation costs which is not 100% complete. DT details when the settlement was made and ties in with the Board Of Directors unanimous vote AGAINST Vince McMahon in December 2022 & FOR Vince in January 2023. NICK KHAN pissed off many among the elite wrestling media and fans. During an appearance last week on the Bill Simmons Podcast, Khan made some fascinating comments about AEW, Tony & Shad Khan. Remember Dixie Carter's 'Cash Flow Positive' remarks from 2013? DT has discussed that many times over the years. Nick Khan channeled his inner Dixie Carter during this interview and labels Tony Khan of doing the very same with AEW. To further fan the angry flames of many, Nick Khan talks Vince McMahon's return & defends Vince' past sexual indiscretions. Or did he? 'Modern day rules should apply to modern day" is the line many are using for Click Bait. Listen to Nick Khan's comments and you be the judge. TONY KHAN also made some entertaining comments this week appearing on The Maggie and Perloff Show. When asked if he and Shad Khan are interested in buying WWE, Tony Khan channels his inner Dixie Carter. In classic Dixie style, TK provides an answer that may require us smoking a funny cigarette to better understand. DT will share TK's audio remarks during this episode. In addition to the topics above, DT also discusses WWE SmackDown and AEW Rampage (1/20/23) results, Royal Rumble updates, 30th Anniversary Raw preview with a huge Sami Zayn diss coming? DT discusses IWC and Elite Media reaction to Warner Media refusing to allow Jay Briscoe Tribute and celebration on AEW Dynamite & Rampage. This episode does open with some very uplifting updates about Jay Briscoe's two daughters and $$ raised for the Pugh Family. ==== CLICK HERE to listen to THE DON TONY SHOW 1/21/2023 online. Designing Women was hardly the first show to feature clashes between performers and producers (go read about All in the Family some time). But the very public war between creator Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and breakout star Delta Burke included Emmy nominations, fat shaming, and a secret Barbara Walters special that no one involved with Designing Women knew Delta had filmed until it aired. Dixie Carter got dragged into the fray along the way, while Annie Potts and Jean Smart wisely stayed out of it. Join us as Mark walks Kasey through the history of Designing Women, why Nacogdoches is a key part of his favorite joke, and what Dixie Carter had to say in a TV Guide cover story meant to do damage control. And yes, Mark bought a copy on eBay just for this episode. We stray from our lore keeping journey on Following Lucha this week by watching and analyzing that first episode of The CW's “Arrow” that Cody Rhodes was on! It's from 2016, starring Stephen Amell, and kinda sucked. We also talk wrestling in the week of October 19, 2016 as Lucha Underground's Black Lotus announces she is pregnant with a Habeger, Hideo Itami gets injured AGAIN, Billy Corgan files for a restraining order against Dixie Carter, and Paige proposes to Alberto Del Rio. Also, AEW's Double or Nothing 2022 event happened, some VTuber plays WWE2k22, and John Cena was harassed by Mo Deen again. Is TK a MARK?! WHY does Arrow sound like that?!! Tread Perilously's Women First month continues with a Designing Women episode called "The Pride of Sugarbakers." When Sugarbakers sponsors a junior league softball team, Mary Jo agrees to coach. Unfortunately, her style is more suited for a Pee Wee league. After the team loses six games, Julia suggests a more aggressive system which favors her protegee, Randa. Will it work? And will Mary Jo discover she needs to be more competitive? Will it have an effect on her son, Quinton, a comically inept ball player? Meanwhile, Suzanne tries to protect her new Cadillac from foul balls and Carlene recalls her childhood days of playing ball with a "puhtatuh." Erik immediately calls the temperature on talk radio in the early 1990s. He also empathizes with Delta Burke. Justin recalls fond memories of watching the series as a child -- one of the few he was allowed to see when he was young. Gerd Shockley comes out against Designing Women creator Linda Bloodworth-Thomason for surprising reasons. Justin's memories of Dixie Carter's time on Diff'rent Strokes gets confirmed by Erik. A discussion about The Big Lebowski breaks out. Memories of the Thomasons' connections to the Clintons lead down a very specific rabbit hole and character actor Dennis Burkley gets a special spotlight.
