In this sixth of seven brief ‘trailers' from the Old Testament, as if giving a sneak peek into an upcoming blockbuster film, David writes in the first person about a suffering individual, but it is clearly not himself. Acts 2 says that David was a prophet, and Psalm 22 is his clearest vision of the afflictions of his greatest descendant, born 1,000 years after the psalm was composed. 6 April 2025.

Join us as Paul is rejoined by John Lambert of Cal Poly University Pomona in his second time on the podcast. John just wrapped judging on Region 14 - which is set to be the largest regional of the year. In addition to being the biggest of the year, the show actually sold out of stalls. John enjoyed what was a very long week judging an extremely talented group of horses. Both Paul and John dive into what it means to judge at a high level within the Arabian industry, from technical knowledge, scrutiny of the details, and the endurance required to stand in an arena all day long without much walking and definitely very little sitting. They discuss the potential of conflicts of interests in such a tight-knit community, and discuss their strategies to avoid them. They also discuss why a horse may end up placed drastically differently from one judge to another - from background, to personal preference, to what one person saw that another may have missed. They also jump into auction transparency: When John took on the Head Trainer position at Cal Poly Pomona, an end was brought to private treaty sales from the Cal Poly program and all horses were sold at auction. John talks through how he approached this unique problem, and how Cal Poly has not only sold more horses, but have drawn more buyers through their practices that set forth an alternative blueprint for managing sales in the Arabian industry. Join us as this week, Paul interviews John Lambert, Executive Director of the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center, which is the heart of California Polytechnic University in Pomona California. John talks through his introduction to the Arabian horse, with time in Michigan and California working with some legends of the industry, before he joined the staff as first the trainer and then the executive director at W.K. Kellogg. He shares the incredible history of the longest-running active breeding program of Arabian Horses in the United States, established in 1926 by W.K. Kellogg of cereal fame. He found horses in Southern California and then jumped straight to one of the primary sources of the modern Arabian horse: The Crabbet Stud in England, where the famous Lady Wentworth was convinced to part with some of her finest mares and stallions, which provided a cornerstone for the Arabian Horse in the United States. From there, the program grew, and to ensure its posterity, Mr. Kellogg donated the farm, the horses, and all of the land to the state of California to establish what would become the Cal Poly Pomona campus that is known today. The Arabian farm remains the heart of the campus, and has involved both students and the public in a variety of activities, from Foal Watch to a show for the public every Sunday. John's stewardship has led the program to its high point for sales by eliminating the Private Treaty sale for all "CP" horses, while improving their esteem to be counted among the top performance horse breeding programs year after year. If you'd like to learn more, visit him on campus or send him an email at jelamert@cpp.edu. Episode 146 - We are so excited to welcome you to our new series, God's Glory, Our Delight. Taking delight in God: Nothing could be more important, and nothing could be more practical today. Can we be totally honest here? This is Stephanie's favorite series to date, because it is her own personal life motto! We kick off the series with an episode that transitions us from Easter into this new season of deeper intimacy with God. You are invited to experience the glory of God in the face of Christ Jesus today! Today Stephanie has invited a long-time friend who shaped her own theology of glory and of the cross of Jesus Christ when she was a young believer. Pastor John Lambert tells us about the places where he has encountered the glory of God in Scripture, and humbly invites us on a journey to do the same. What is human glory? What is divine glory? Who is Jesus Christ when it comes to God's glory? Most importantly, how does Easter and the crucifixion manifest the glory of God in most unexpected and most moving ways? Jesus's Passion (His suffering) and His death are seen as the supreme showcase of His glory. How can this be?  How can glory come from such horror and excruciating suffering? Jesus closed the gap between our sin and God's righteousness. Because of this, Jesus's complete innocence was given to us. John invites us to ponder glory emanating from creation is illusive, momentary, diluted and falls short of the glory of God. What times in your life have you experienced this momentary, fleeting glory? How long did it satisfy you? Did it make you want to keep seeking it??  If this type of glory never brings complete satisfaction why do we keep seeking it? Delighting in the glory of God. Does this concept strike you as reserved for spiritual contemplatives? What if, instead, it proved the highly practical, deeply foundational perspective you need right now? Why does God's glory even matter in our day and age? How can we learn from Jesus to make His glory our true North and lifelong quest? What keeps us from fully stepping into this God-ordained purpose for our life? How do we kindle delight for God on a daily basis? And, once we have embraced God's glory as our heart's true delight, how can we then come alongside others? Join us to cultivate a sincere delight for God's glory, rooted in an honest, hard look at the depth of our need, and in the much deeper Reality of His grace. Trace the glory of God through Scripture and in your own life. Behold the exact radiance of God's glory, revealed in Jesus. Learn to see yourself as Christ does—through the lens of the Father's love at the cross. Jesus offers to overwhelm our deadly self-centeredness with His resurrection power. He carries us every step of the way, even as He calls us to true humility on the path to glory. Who has time to cultivate the delight that comes from pondering the glory of God? And yet, nothing could be more urgent today. Marthas and Marys, Peters and Johns—we are all invited to dare to dream of a lifestyle of God-centered delight. Nothing could be more practical.
