Jay Z's career defies easy categorization. His artistry and business sense are as influenced by his past career as a drug dealer as they are anything else. Jay Z has reached unprecedented heights as an entertainer and an entrepreneur, and it almost never happened. All because of a stabbing. A stabbing that was influenced by that same street hustle that created “Jay Z." To see the full list of contributors, see the show notes at www.disgracelandpod.com. In this segment of The Clay Edwards Show, host Clay Edwards tackles the burning question on many Jackson residents' minds: Is the Jackson Police Department (JPD) back? Celebrating a recent narcotics bust on July 11, 2025, where JPD's Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant, seizing illegal drugs and cash as part of an ongoing investigation into drug activity, Clay highlights this as a potential sign of resurgence for the department. He reflects on JPD's past struggles, including what former Chief Joseph Wade described as operational "handcuffs" under previous administrations, which limited enforcement and contributed to Jackson's reputation as a "criminal safe haven." Drawing from positive trends in 2025, Clay notes a dramatic decline in homicides: JPD reported just 33 homicides in the first half of the year, a 42% reduction from 62 during the same period in 2024, aligning with city officials' downward trend. By mid-May 2025, homicides were cut in half (22 compared to 44 in 2024), showcasing improved strategies against violent crime. Additionally, the department rolled out 46 new patrol cars in February 2025, complete with updated designs and pay raises for officers, signaling investments in resources and morale. Clay questions whether these "small victories"—like the drug seizure and reduced crime stats—mean JPD is truly reclaiming its role as a respectable law enforcement agency after years of criticism for inefficiency, DEI-related issues, and lax policies. He calls for transparency on past constraints, arguing that without it, accountability for unsolved cases and preventable deaths remains elusive. Listeners are encouraged to weigh in: Is this the start of a comeback, or just isolated wins? Clay emphasizes celebrating progress while pushing for sustained reform to prove Mayor Jake Windham wrong about Jackson's safe haven status. Tune in for Clay's unfiltered take, listener calls, and more on local Jackson news. Follow @SaveJXN on social media for updates!
The seizure of the MV Matthew, with its massive consignment of drugs, off the Irish coast in September 2023 was as daring as it was skilful. After days of a cat and mouse chase in challenging weather between the Naval Service and the Matthew, members of the elite Army Ranger Wing descended from a helicopter on to the deck of the cargo ship. The crew were arrested and the drugs found.Operation Piano – which brought Revenue, the Garda and the Defence Forces together – resulted in Ireland's largest ever drugs seizure, worth €156 million. While the operation was an undoubted success, a showcase of ability, power and intent, it also highlighted how ill-equipped the Defence Forces are.Only one ship was available for the operation, and only one helicopter. So many things could have gone wrong.Eight men have been jailed over the drugs seizure, their significant sentences a signal from the Irish courts that anyone involved in such international drug smuggling will be treated severely.Irish Times crime and security correspondent Conor Gallagher describes how the Matthew was intercepted and seized.Presented by Bernice Harrison. In the spring of 1977, the Rolling Stones put on two surprise club shows in Toronto. But meanwhile, RCMP officers broke into Keith Richards' hotel room, and discovered heroin. The ensuing criminal trial led to a very unusual verdict: the band had to put on a charity concert for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Why for them? Largely due to the testimony of a Quebec Stones fan. Randy Renaud has the whole tale on this week's edition of the Chronicles of Rock.

FLORENCE, Miss. (WLBT) - A man is in custody after a police chase in Rankin County. Tuesday, Florence Police Chief Brad Burns told WLBT 3 On Your Side that officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2011 Black GMC Yukon on Highway 49 for improper equipment violations. Chief Burns said that while officers attempted to get the suspect and driver of the vehicle, Thomas Fresquez, out of the vehicle, he took off, and a chase ensued. Florence police said the driver ran multiple red lights into the city of Richland. With Richland PD's assistance, the Yukon was spiked near Kroger, where it was a successful hit as three tires were disabled. A Richland Police K-9 was deployed into the vehicle, and Fresquez was then removed from his vehicle and taken into custody. According to the chief, the man was found to have a large amount of THC wax and three firearms. Fresquez faces multiple charges, including trafficking a controlled substance, felony fleeing, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of marijuana in close proximity of a firearm, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, false information to a law enforcement officer, suspended driver's license, no insurance expired tag, and improper equipment. Fresquez also has a full extradition warrant from Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Mississippi Highway Patrol also assisted with the arrest.
