Ying chats about how she learned better ways to teach and how to communicate more effectively. The feedback that Ying has gotten from students after utilizing what she learned from the Women's Summit has been great so far. Angela Lemmons was the Keynote speaker the first night and talked about daring to be extra and the importance of pushing forward and surrounding yourself with like-minded people. The on-snow portion of the event covered drills like progressions, connecting your body to your skis or board and steering with your knees. Ying talks about the mentorship session that happened the second night and how it was so valuable to see the stats around women's mentorship in snowsports. Ann Schorling hosted a Q+A around gender equity in snowsports instruction in which a great talk happened about the importance of female instructors. Ying talks about how seeing females in 'traditional male' roles on the mountain is exciting to see and helps a lot with the barrier of seeing someone like you in a role that you didn't think was a traditional fit.

BUFFALO, NY- January 23, 2024 – A new #research paper was #published in Aging (listed by MEDLINE/PubMed as "Aging (Albany NY)" and "Aging-US" by Web of Science) Volume 16, Issue 1, entitled, “Systematic analysis of the prognostic value and immunological function of LTBR in human cancer.” Lymphotoxin beta receptor (LTBR) is a positive T cell proliferation regulator gene. It is closely associated with the tumor immune microenvironment. However, its role in cancer and immunotherapy is unclear. In this new study, researchers Yinteng Wu, Shijian Zhao, Wenliang Guo, Ying Liu, Marìa Del Mar Requena Mullor, Raquel Alarcòn Rodrìguez, and Ruqiong Wei from The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University, The Eighth Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University and University of Almerìa analyzed the expression level and prognostic value of LTBR in clinical stages, immune subtypes, and molecular subtypes. The correlation between LTBR and immune regulatory genes, immune checkpoint genes, and RNA modification genes was then analyzed. Correlations between LTBR and immune cells, scores, cancer-related functional status, tumor stemness index, mismatch repair (MMR) genes, and DNA methyltransferase were also analyzed. In addition, the team analyzed the role of LTBR in DNA methylation, mutational status, tumor mutation burden (TMB), and microsatellite instability (MSI). Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) were used to explore the role of LTBR in pan-cancer. Finally, the drugs associated with LTBR were analyzed. “In this work, we looked into the expression of LTBR at multiple levels.” The expression of LTBR was confirmed using quantitative real-time PCR and Western blot. LTBR is significantly overexpressed in most cancers and is associated with low patient survival. In addition, LTBR expression was strongly correlated with immune cells, score, cancer-related functional status, tumor stemness index, MMR genes, DNA methyltransferase, DNA methylation, mutational status, TMB, and MSI. Enrichment analysis revealed that LTBR was associated with apoptosis, necroptosis, and immune-related pathways. Finally, multiple drugs targeting LTBR were identified. LTBR is overexpressed in several tumors and is associated with a poor prognosis. It is related to immune-related genes and immune cell infiltration. “Notably, we identified LTBR as a potential target for cancer immunotherapy and a marker of immune infiltration and poor prognosis. This study offers new possibilities for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients, instilling hope for improved outcomes.” DOI - https://doi.org/10.18632/aging.205356 Corresponding author - Ruqiong Wei - ruqiongwei@sr.gxmu.edu.cn Subscribe for free publication alerts from Aging - https://www.aging-us.com/subscribe-to-toc-alerts About Aging-US Launched in 2009, Aging-US publishes papers of general interest and biological significance in all fields of aging research and age-related diseases, including cancer—and now, with a special focus on COVID-19 vulnerability as an age-dependent syndrome. This Thursday, January 4th, UnScripted is joined by Ms. Ying Liu. Originally from Beijing, Ms. Liu relocated to the U.S. in 1997. Despite having an engineering degree, her first career was teaching Chinese at Hamilton College. She pursued an MBA in supply chain and finance at Michigan State before joining Apple in 2000, where she played a pivotal role in diverse positions, from materials management to corporate social responsibility. Among her most notable achievements was establishing Apple's procurement operations in China in 2004. She was instrumental in expanding Apple's footprint in the region, laying the groundwork for its dominance in the mobile phone market. Returning to the U.S. in 2007, Ying shifted focus to product operations and supplier responsibility at Apple. Her expertise covered various manufacturing processes, enriching her industry knowledge. As a mother, she sought more than her accomplishments at Apple. She ventured into entrepreneurship, starting with travel planning software. Her passion for sustainability was ignited while researching eco-friendly packaging, leading her to witness the environmental impacts of plastic waste firsthand. This experience led to the creation of Blue Lake Packaging, a company dedicated to providing recyclable plant-fiber-based alternatives to traditionally plastic-dominated industrial packaging solutions and household products. “

Having recently celebrated experimental hodgepodgeist and artist Ying Liu's 10th anniversary as a resident of New York City, Alec & Nick embark on discussing a central question she has asked Flavortone: what is an experiment? The episode features a self-checklist of questions Ying asks herself when inquiring if something “is an experiment.” The conversation responds to these questions and broadly discusses Ying's two recent works PLAYDATE and PIGTAIL—centering questions around the production of willingness, commitment, our technological reality, the shifting reality paradigm, and the implications of Ying's work and approach for experimental music, specifically.
Alec and Nick discuss some of the quandaries of reopening the live music and performance economy. Ideas around liveness, civic engagement, participation, self-determined infrastructure, commitment, diminishing returns, site, assemblage, and citation are discussed—specifically in experimental, improvised, and popular music, as well as in the work of interdisciplinary artist Ying Liu. How can you, as a facilitator, create new and exciting possibilities for your workshop participants? The answer lies in provoking your audience to listen to each other and feel heard. Provocation is a strategic tactic to make workshop participants feel uncomfortable – but in a good way. It drives them out of their comfort zones and allows them to break free from their shells so they can take action and evoke new thoughts and ideas that may have been left uncovered. We know that provocation can have many positive benefits, but how can facilitators use provocation to amplify their workshop?
