Samantha reviews her favourite biblical western lovestory Redeeming Love, while Indy gets back into the world of Wong KarWai with a review of Days of Being Wild, and we get ready for In The Mood For Love and 2046. I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha & Indy Randhawa Redeeming Love is a 2022 American Christian Western romance film directed by D.J. Caruso, who co-wrote the screenplay with Francine Rivers. The film is based on Rivers' 1991 novel of the same name, which was based on the Biblical story of Hosea, and is set in the American Old West during the California Gold Rush. It stars Abigail Cowen, Tom Lewis and Logan Marshall-Green. Days of Being Wild is a 1990 Hong Kong drama film written and directed by Wong Kar-Wai. Starring some of the best-known actors and actresses in Hong Kong, including Leslie Cheung, Andy Lau, Maggie Cheung, Carina Lau, Jacky Cheung and Tony Leung, the film marks the first collaboration between Wong and cinematographer Christopher Doyle, with whom he has since made six more films. In the Mood for Love (Chinese: 花樣年華; lit. 'Flowery Years') is a 2000 romantic drama film written, produced and directed by Wong Kar-wai. A co-production between Hong Kong and France, it portrays a man (Tony Leung) and a woman (Maggie Cheung) in 1962 whose spouses have an affair together and who slowly develop feelings for each other. It forms the second part of an informal trilogy, alongside Days of Being Wild[6] and 2046. 2046 is a 2004 romantic drama film written, produced and directed by Wong Kar-wai. An international co-production between Hong Kong, France, Italy, China and Germany, it is a loose sequel to Wong's films Days of Being Wild (1990) and In the Mood for Love (2000). It follows the aftermath of Chow Mo-wan's unconsummated affair with Su Li-zhen in 1960s Hong Kong and includes elements of science fiction.
Walkabout released in 1971, and is regarded as an incredibly influential film in the history of Australian cinema. So in watching it for the first time, we had to bring on board our trusted guest star Andy Lau, who was already a big fan of the picture. The story follows two English children, a teenage girl and her younger brother, who are stranded in the Outback after their father's traumatising death. On their journey back to civilisation, they encounter a young Aboriginal boy (played by the iconic David Gulpilil) who helps them to survive despite not being able to speak the same language. This pilgrimage through the harsh wilderness creates many opportunities to explore cultural differences, and the impact of white Australians on the land, among many other thoughtful topics. And the film does just that with its remarkable cinematography and hypnotic editing. These aspects certainly had an impact on our viewing, so let us talkabout-it. Spring Festival ended on an uplifting note for the movie market this year as it shattered multiple previous records to become the highest-grossing Chinese New Year holiday in the history of domestic cinema.2024年春节档电影市场迎来了开门红,打破了多项纪录,成为国内电影史上票房最高的春节档。Statistics from the China Film Administration, the nation's top industry regulator, showed that during the holiday period from Feb 10 to Saturday, the country grossed a whopping 8.02 billion yuan ($1.12 billion) from 163 million tickets, surging 18.47 percent and 26.36 percent, respectively, compared with the same period last year. 26.36%。Seizing a lot of attention due to actress-director Jia Ling's weight loss of up to 50 kilograms in one year, YOLO — a comedy recounting Jia's portrayal of an oversized woman striving to become her better self — earned 2.72 billion yuan, topping the festival box-office charts. Pegasus 2, the sequel to a 2019 blockbuster racing film by writer-director Han Han, ranked second at the box office with 2.4 billion yuan. Boonie Bears: Time Twist, the latest installment in the Boonie Bears animated film series, took the third spot with 1.39 billion yuan, and Zhang Yimou's Article 20 ranked fourth with 1.33 billion yuan. A report from Maoyan, one of the country's largest ticketing services, revealed that 39.2 percent of the audiences purchased movie tickets while returning to their hometowns or traveling, which was the highest in the past four years. Additionally, up to 58.9 percent of the total box-office revenue was earned in the third- and fourth-tier cities, the highest in five years. Despite a total of eight movies opening simultaneously on the first day of the Year of the Dragon, four titles, or half of them, canceled screenings one after another starting on Feb 14, announcing that the screenings would resume at a more suitable time. Viva La Vida, a moving tale about two lovers fighting severe diseases, was the first to make the unusual decision, followed by Andy Lau-starring The Movie Emperor and the animated film Huang Pi: God of Money on Feb 16, and then another animated feature, Ba Jie, on Feb 17. News and reviews about the highest-grossing blockbusters and the unprecedented scale of cancellations stirred widespread discussions online, accumulating a total of 46 billion clicks on related topics on the popular social media platform Sina Weibo. Yin Tengyu, a senior analyst with Maoyan's research division, said these instances served as a reminder for Chinese film companies to exercise greater caution when choosing appropriate screening times, as well as assessing whether the themes of the movies align with the holiday atmosphere. However, the overall performance of the movie market was quite satisfactory. In addition to the box-office success, the ratings of the festival blockbusters were mostly high," said Yin, adding that the robust start of the Chinese New Year bodes well for the domestic film industry, which is expected to see faster and better recovery. bode well for对...
In 2002, Tony Leung and Andy Lau starred in the Hong Kong classic Infernal Affairs, which Martin Scorsese remade in the US as The Departed; twenty years on, the inspiration flows in the opposite direction, Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street a clear reference point for this fictionalised tale of real-life stock market manipulation, deeply embedded corruption, and the growth of a multi-billion-dollar company from meagre beginnings on the back of scams, confidence, appearences, and lies, with Leung starring as charming, oleaginous company founder and Lau as the anti-corruption official on his tail. We had terrific fun in The Goldfinger. Which isn't to say it's a perfect film. We have our issues. The imagery could be more expressive - though director Felix Chong (another Infernal Affairs alumnus: he wrote the trilogy) clearly has an eye for visual impact, and there's lots to be impressed by. We'd like to know why Lau's corruption investigator believes that chasing Leung's CEO is worth the disruption and danger to his family, beyond simply justice. We'd like any similar insight into what drives Leung, beyond simply greed. And if it is simply justice and greed, we'd like it to be better sold, bigger and brasher. We'd like the clash between the two to be more explosive. And the rather pat ending induces eye-rolling. But never mind all that. The Goldfinger is an entertaining and exciting tale of the rise and fall of a business empire that lived and died based on the fundamental corruption of the system and interests that built and supported it. Recorded on 30th December 2023.

This week, we're rounding out our series on "House" movies with House of Flying Daggers (Yimou 2004), a very sexy wuxia film that combines gorgeous aesthetics with sleeve agility and fighting in trees. It is at its core a period drama, starring Ziyi Zhang, Takeshi Kaneshiro, and Andy Lau, but it also involves love, deception, loyalty, and conflict, which we talk a lot about, obviously. We still have an email address and also transcripts available! Get in touch or get a transcript at thejuiciestbitspodcast@gmail.com. Also, don't forget to give us even more attention by rating, reviewing, and subscribing to this pod. We appreciate it!
It can be traced back to his daughter's lifelong fixation with the Hong Kong movie star. Synopsis: Can I Tell You Something Crazy is a new scripted series under the #PopVultures banner, which examines with fresh eyes, events that shook Asian media and entertainment. In March 2007, Hong Kong movie star Andy Lau attended a joyous event organised by Andy World Club, his official fan club. There, he played games, chatted with fans and took photos - including one with Yang Lijuan, a Chinese fan who had travelled from her hometown of Gansu province in China to meet her lifelong idol. Everything seemed fine. But just a day later, Yang Lijuan's father - a retired schoolteacher named Yang Qinji - threw himself into the sea and left behind a 3,000-word suicide note addressed to Lau. In it he wrote: “Andy Lau, your heart is black, you have no conscience. You are worse than a dog.” What had world-famous film star Lau done to incur such wrath from a humble schoolteacher in China? In this episode of Can I Tell You Something Crazy, #PopVultures host Jan Lee revisits the most infamous "fan" in China - Yang Lijuan. Her father burnt through his savings, sold their family's house and eventually took his own life, all to support his daughter's lifelong, unhealthy fixation with Lau. This is not just a story of one of the most extreme and tragic examples of what celebrity obsession can lead to, it is also a cautionary tale - about the incredible power the media wields and the incredible damage it can inflict. We were lucky enough to attend an early screening of Past Lives at the Melbourne International Film Festival (or MIFF if you're so inclined), and of course we had to invite Andy Lau himself back on the show to breakdown the film. The movie spans decades, focusing on two childhood friends reunited after 20 years. And this being Celine Song's directorial debut, we were very impressed with many aspects of the storytelling and cinematography. For a film which runs a little over 90 minutes, there's a lot to analyse in its characters and performances, and we're excited to do just that. Definitely check out the film if you can when it releases in Australia on August 31st. But then in perhaps our longest and most dysfunctional Question of the Week segment, we share a bunch of thoughts from ourselves and listener(s) on the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Has the whole MCU craze gone down the toilet? Or is there still hope for the future? It's a double feature episode as Elwood and Stephen look at Wong Kai Wai's Mean Streets influenced As Tears Go By as Andy Lau plays Wah a triad enforcer who spends all his time getting his best friend and triad brother Fly (Jackie Cheung) out of trouble while finding his life only getting more complex when he fall for his cousin Ngor (Maggie Cheung). This week Jake delivers the pathos from the East and West in two, dramatically different, but no less dramatic picks. First, we kick things off with the updated Wuxia tragedy from master Sammo Hung, starring Andy Lau and an Orca named Wayne in Moon Warriors (1993). Then we head on down to Bummertown, USA (pop. 2) with Viggo Mortensen's depressingly square butt cheeks and a whole lot of cannibalism in John Hillcoat's The Road (2009)
This week, it's a transitional film for Michelle Yeoh - she gets her very first action scene in a quick cameo in the third film of Sammo Hung's highly successful LUCKY STARS series! This one's called TWINKLE, TWINKLE, LUCKY STARS and features iconic performers like Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, and Andy Lau among its cast. Are the stellar action scenes enough to get us to power through the film's pretty icky sexual politics? Well, it's time to find out!
On this episode of the Capital Games Movie Club, Zero and Wiz talk about the 2002 crime caper "Infernal Affairs" starring Tony Leung and Andy Lau. Next week, we will be watching the remake of this film "The Departed", starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg and Jack Nicholson.

Audi's newly released advertisement video on Chinese social media has been accused of copying from an internet influencer. The video advertisement, featuring Chinese Hong Kong's actor Andy Lau, has caused a huge public outcry over the brand's plagiarism. Audi apologized Sunday morning over the plagiarism, adding that the brand has removed the video from the Chinese social media platforms and has demanded the relevant companies to address the infringement.22日上午,一汽奥迪销售有限责任公司对此发布了致歉声明。 M&C Saatchi apologized on Sunday, saying that its Audi team "lacks copyright awareness" and promised to do its best to make up for the loss to the original author. Sunday afternoon,Lau expressed his regret and said he has 100 percent respect for originality.5月22日下午,刘德华发文称,“对原创我是百分百的尊重,今次事件,对于广告团队在创作过程中出现的问题,以及对满哥造成的困扰,我个人深感遗憾。”In the promotional video released by Audi, Andy Lau popularized the origin of Xiaoman. At the end of the video, he also wrote a poem about Xiaoman. On Saturday evening, a blogger named "Beida Mange [short as Mange]," accused the brand claiming that the script for its new video is in fact "from an original poem" that he composed on the same day in 2021.21日晚,一位名叫“北大满哥”的博主称该品牌宣传短片的脚本实际上是他在2021年创作的“原创诗歌”。"The poem was made by myself. Please ask the original author when citing them," said Mange, a popular educational content-driven video influencer graduated from Peking University. Mange accused the brand of failing to properly communicate with him before using his poem for marketing. However, some netizens pointed out that some of the words mentioned in the video of Mange are not all original, and other bloggers published them as early as 2017. As a result, the plagiarism incident of Audi Xiaoman's advertising copy has sparked a new controversy. This plagiarism incident has also caused discussions on intellectual property protection. Taking down advertisements is not a fundamental solution to the problem. Those suspected of infringing on others' intellectual property rights should bear corresponding legal responsibilities. Respecting originality and protecting innovation should become the consensus of society. plagiarism英[ˈpleɪdʒərɪzəm];美[ˈpleɪdʒərɪzəm]n.

Andy and Pete continue our 10 Year Anniversaries series with an episode that's a crossover with our next series – a look at director Ann Hui. We're looking at her 2011 film ‘A Simple Life,' starring Andy Lau and Deannie Ip. It's a touching and quiet film about a maid and the young man who's family she's been working for nearly 60 years, and how their relationship evolves when she decides to retire to an old folks' home. The pace may not be for everyone, but we were both really touched by the film. Tune in to hear our conversation!

Season two kicks off with two awards big-hitters, winning dozens of international awards between them. Firstly, the smash hit Hong Kong crime film Infernal Affairs, starring megastar actors Tony Chiu-Wai Leung and Andy Lau. This is a fast-paced, slick, exciting cops and robbers thriller, with a uniquely complex hook. It's so good, in fact, that less than five years after it's release, Martin Scorsese remade it with Leonardo di Caprio and Matt Damon in the lead roles, as The Departed. But just because its more expensive and has an English language audio track, that's not necessarily enough to convince the GBR team that it was worthy of remaking. The Departed is arguably the most requested film we've done to date. Find out whether it lived up to the hype.
