Send me a Text Message! After the last episode and its focus on someone who missed Christ, who you might say, missed Christmas, we can't skip Zachaeus; the wee little man, his tree, and the celebration in his home. Zach is a guy who got it, a guy who didn't miss Christ and you might even say, didn't miss the true meaning of Christ-mas! And through his story, we are going to ponder the love of God. Listen, the love of God, found in Jesus, poured out by the Spirit has this ability to change us; give you acourageous self-confidence and contentment all at the same time. Paul describes this love in Ephesians 1:3-5 with one phrase in particular that stirs up Christmas joy in me. Paul writes, "Without a single fault we stand before Him, covered in His love. "His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into His own family by sending Jesus to die for us. And He did this because He wanted to..."You are covered in His love this Christmas...what more could we need?

In this episode, Arnie and Fred talk about apologizing when we are wrong about something. We start out by looking at what Jesus said one must do if one is angry at his brother without a cause and why this is so important. We discuss why it is so important to be willing to admit wrongdoing and correct it. We look at a passage that indicates others can help us in this regard. We also note a passage that tells us we ought to accept others who are seeking to correct their own faults. There are three individuals who offered apologies for their wrong actions that we discuss. Their apologies differed in a number of ways, and we note them. Finally, we discuss several things that are also very important when it comes to apologizing.Take about 30 minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcription of this Buzzsprout episode for your convenience.

"If the lady I'm convinced God wants me to marry has a bad attitude and character, should I still go ahead?" That is the summary to the interesting question we considered in this episode. It comes in from Zachaeus who asks, "Please sir, there's this question I'd love to ask as well as seek clarity from you with regards to marriage/relationship. If God is leading me in the direction of a lady as my wife-to-be (God's will) and such a lady has a bad character and attitude, am I permitted to go on with such relationship?" We discussed this by drawing Zach's attention to further reflect on some of the assumptions in his questions and we also shared from our own experience to give further perspective on Zach's interesting question. You may know where you are, but do you know WHO you are? You are not your labels. You are not your failures. You are not your career. Jesus says, “You are mine.” The story of Jesus' encounter with Zachaeus reminds us that Jesus comes after us when we take a step towards him, no matter who we are or where we've been! Seeking Zacchaeus! As we have been reading through Luke we see something very special about Jesus. He is compassionate. He cares about people’s specific needs. He weeps over their poor choices. He sees people in crowds rather than crowds of people. He sees their problems rather than personal inconvenience. In Luke 19:1-10 we read that Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. Because Jericho was a rich city it had many poor in it as well. They would line the streets hoping some rich person might be generous with them. Blind Bartimaeus was along the road leading into Jericho. Jesus has just passed through on his way to Jerusalem but there is someone else who wants to know what Jesus is like. Jesus sees people and loves them.
This week Faith To Go formation team members David Tremaine, Maya Little-Saña, and Charlette Preslar discuss Jesus' interaction with Zachaeus the tax collector from this week's gospel reading, it's implications for our spiritual lives, and what conversations at home will be like based on these gospel themes. PROMISES MADE 2 WHEN JESUS CALLS Obedience to the Law Vs. Obedience to the Promise Illustration of 3 million dollar gift _____________________________________________________________ The journey to all of God’s promises starts in understanding that we will always fail trying to do whats right (obedience to the law) Lose bible reading streak Forget to pray before a meal Skip church to go to the game _____________________________________________________________ If it's following the letter of a law - you will fail. Seek out his promises and in so doing follow the promise maker. _____________________________________________________________ When A law becomes THE law = religion When A promise becomes THE promise = hope _____________________________________________________________ The primary promise of God = Jesus John 3:16 (TPT) For this is how much God loved the world—he gave his one and only, unique Son as a gift.[k [1]] So now everyone who believes in him[l [2]]will never perish but exerience everlasting life. 17 “God did not send his Son into the world to judge and condemn the world, but to be its Savior and rescue it! Skeletons in the Closet- Zachaeus, from Failure to Philanthropist
Did you know it’s possible to be tall and still feel small?
Occasionally at Grace Community Church, we study selected Scripture passages that do not fit into a particular sermon series. These selected sermons allow us the opportunity to address the concerns of a particular passage in the preaching/teaching ministry of Grace Community Church.
I have a confession to make — I haven’t always been the most loving person. Over the course of the last year, I have introduced you to “Throat-Punch Derrick,” the guy I used to be before Jesus rescued me. Throat-Punch Derrick was more concerned with incapacitation than reconciliation and more concerned with destruction than discipleship. I even had a t-shirt that said, “Kill ‘em all, let God sort ‘em out.” I used to use the F-bomb a lot. You know, like “F-‘em” to people I didn’t like of people who, in my mind, did me wrong. But today I want to say F-‘em to a whole new group of people. I want to say F-you and I want you to go F some folks. Let’s see how Jesus did it: Luke 23:34 (ESV) 34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments. Some of y’all were on the edge of your seat, thinking I was gonna cuss! Forgive! In some Christian circles, Forgiveness has become just as volatile as the F-bomb. “How can we forgive those who persecute Christians?” “How can we forgive atheists?” “How can we forgive witches and pagans?” “How can we forgive radical Muslims?” “How can we forgive racists?” How can we forgive? I’m not going to lie and say this is easy but this is the straight gate and the narrow way Jesus spoke of. Broad is the way of destruction — in other words, the easy way is to hate who you dislike and to deny forgiveness to those who offend you. But Jesus in, Luke 6:27-28, said to love your enemies. To bless them that curse you. To pray for them who oppress you. Y’all this is hard. But this is love. Can you imagine that while Jesus was hanging on the cross that the thought didn’t cross his mind to condemn those who mocked, beat, and crucified Him? But he said, “Father, Forgive them…” Listen up, you cannot forgive without love. I humbly submit to you that it is impossible to forgive without the presence of love. If you say you forgive without manifesting love, you’re just paying lip-service — going through the motions without any devotion! Now, one thing I want to liberate you from is some Old Covenant baggage — Jesus said that if you don’t forgive, God would not forgive you (Matthew 6:14-15). He said this in His “Sermon on the Mount.” Now there was a point to the Sermon on the Mount that many people miss — that Jesus was preaching the law on steroids. In other words, He was showing the impossibility of upholding the law. Jesus was showing the desperate need for Grace. The Sermon on the Mount is not a guideline for living, it is a demonstration that there is no liberty in the law. Think about it, no one is plucking out their eyes of cutting off their hands, right? But watch this, Jesus demonstrated forgiveness to many. The woman at the well. The woman caught in adultery. Zachaeus. Peter. Jesus even allowed Judas to break bread with Him KNOWING what he was about to do. Jesus was all about forgiveness. He who has been forgiven much should forgive much. But we forget that when we feel offended. And, now, forgiveness has become as bad as a cuss word. “You wouldn’t forgive them, either, if you knew what they did to me…” This is often the rallying cry in the Body of Christ. Instead of trying to figure out how to forgive we strive to justify our feelings for holding grudges. But we are to be known by our love toward others as we love ourselves. That means letting go! Forgiveness is evidence of our love! Paul taught extensively on forgiveness. He taught that we have been forgiven by God and that we, too, must forgive. James and John also taught that God has forgiven us and that we, too, must forgive. Forgiveness is a product of love. In fact, you will never be more Christlike than when you forgive. Now don’t get it twisted, here — I’m not saying you should go become a snake handler after you’ve been bitten by a rattlesnake. You have the right to mark those who offended you and limit your exposure to them.
A Life Of Defining Moments
"Today we look at the story of Zacchaeus, the "wee little man" who amassed a fortune by over-charging his own people for their taxes. He ended up wealthy, but not happy. Find out how his unhappiness led him to climb a tree and discover...
Pointing UP The Power of Story We don’t disagree with the need to point people toward God, we just struggle with how to do it. 1. Develop friendships 2. Discover their stories 3. Discern next steps How do you move from initial interactions to really making a significant difference in people’s lives? • Be with them. Have you ever been in a conversation that turned spiritual and found yourself tongue-tied regarding how to explain who God is and what he has done in your life, this message is for you! Christ-followers often struggle to convey God’s redemption. How do you convey the difference Christ has made in your life in a way that you could share it in conversation? If you haven’t thought it through, you can talk it to death, confuse it, or use so “Christianese” so that only someone who wasn’t a believer cannot understand it. Whether you’re gifted in evangelism or not, you can be prepared to engage people in spiritual conversations and point people toward faith in God. When conversations take a spiritual turn, you need to know how to convey two stories: God’s story of salvation and your own faith story. God’s Story – The Bridge God is on one side. People on the other. Between the two is a great chasm, dividing people from God because of their propensity to rebel against God and go their own way instead. The Bible calls this “sin”. (Isaiah 59:2a) “But your iniquities have separated you from God.” The dilemma people face is that we want to get to God, but can’t leap over the chasm. We try. We try to be good enough, sacrifice enough, do enough. But in the end we realize all the human effort in the world will not be enough to get us to the other side. Our lives would end in death forever separated from God. But thankfully because God loves us so much, he intervened so that we could come to him. His solution was to send His Son, Jesus, to die on a cross to pay the penalty for our sin. Jesus bridged the gap to bring us to Him. John 5:24 24"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.” John 5:1-15 Your Story – Your story fits into God’s greater story. When eternity is at stake, avoid these: • Long-windedness – Give your listener a chance to ask questions. • Fuzziness – KISS (keep it simple sweetheart). • Christianese – Avoid words like “salvation”, “born again”, “accept Jesus”, “personal Lord and Savior”. They don’t mean much to people who are not Christ-followers. • Superiority – Don’t act like you have it all together and they’re the pitied lost person. • Ambush – Blasting people with the Gospel with no love for them is worthless (1 Cor 13:1-3). What difference has Christ made in your life? What were you like before Christ ad now what are you like after Christ has intervened? A diet plan – are you losing weight? A counselor – has he/she helped? Zachaeus – was gripped by greed, but became freed from greed. Paul – was self-righteous, but became a recipient of grace. Me – I was overwhelmed by me sin. He removed my sin and guilt and gave me a new start. What is the single key concept reflected in your life that is relevant to someone living far from God? I was striving… but now I’m grateful. I was self-destructive… but now I’m healthy. I was guilty… but now I’m liberated. I was paralyzed by fear… but now I’m confident. I was despairing… but now I’m hopeful. What were you before Christ? What are you now after walking with Him for a time? I was _______________, but now I’m _______________. Write out your story in 100 words or less. The main thing that Christ has done in your life. In 100 words, it’s easy to share in conversation – more than that and it’s a monologue. God has a story – learn to tell it well. You have a story – learn to tell it well. God has moved and changed your life. And He did it for a reason. It’s not only for you, but also so that you would walk into work each day choosing to be focused on more than just the work at hand. That you would be willing, under the Spirit’s prompting to walk across your office complex or construction site or school building. That you would remember everyone you see is someone for whom Christ died. That you would put some action behind your faith, look a person directly in the eye and start a conversation, a friendship, a chance to affect their whole life.
