Hello it's Arizona! It's not just the heat it's the constant sun exposure. Plus a lot of climbing in the first 50k. https://linktr.ee/AND3RSON

Why are birthdays a thing? I prefer Carolla's Achievement Day instead. On top of birthday musings, add on a dollop of coaching empty nest and the annual start of another trip around the sun is rather dour. Day 2 of the Great Virtual Race Across Tennessee was a solo one on the bike path with plenty of urban outdoorsmen.  Many athletes would also go out for late afternoon excursions on the roads, squeezing in a few extra easy kilometres. This loose planning was something that really struck us during our time with the group. Their typical schedule included workout sessions on Tuesday (track), Thursday (long run) and Saturday (fartlek/intervals). Many of the athletes are devoutly religious, hence —Sundays are usually taken as a rest day. https://www.sweatelite.co/eliud-kipchoge-recovery/ Shura Kitata & Tigist Girma won this morning's Ethiopian Olympic marathon trials.  Ethiopian Trials Results (Unofficial***):  Women:  1st Tigist Girma 1:59:232th Birhane Dibaba 1:59:453th Rosa Dereje 2:00:164th Zeyneba Yemer 2:03:41 By the men of the men. 1st Shuta Kitata 1:45:552st Lelisa Desisa 1:46:153st Sisay Lemma 1:46:184st Chalu Deso 1:46:33 Early morning 10ks in California have me more awake than coffee!  @NAUTrackFieldXC brought the Fire Abdihamid & Blaise both running well under the Olympic Trials times (27:47 and 27:56)!!! Jones set his record in 1991. Zack averaged a 5:43 per mile pace over the 41.2 miles of the course, which traverses some of the hillier terrain found in rural middle Tennessee.  The race begins and ends in Wartrace TN, the home of the Tennessee Walking Horse.  Invitational 5,000m at West Coast Relays  7. 15:41.33 Katie Izzo [No. 4 UA] 12. 15:48.38 Lauren Gregory 15. 15:57.66 Logan Morris [PR] 20. 16:05.62 Abby Gray 22. 16:06.83 Devin Clark  Congrats to @taggartvanetten who just broke the 100 mile treadmill world record with 11 hours 32 minutes and 5 seconds, unofficial. https://twitter.com/AndyNoise As of mid-April, Nepal had issued 338 permits for Everest climbers, spread across 36 teams. The most important person in the history of American distance running is, ironically, someone who is famous because of walking. Before Jeff was a guiding light for the masses, he was every bit the elite runner — an Olympian and US record holder for the 10 mile run. But lots of people have been Olympians and US record holders. To start, he pioneered the idea of a “specialty” running store. Don't shop at running stores? Do you enjoy big spectacle races — the kind that bring together elite and recreational runners on one stage to share in the race experience? Do you enjoy being able to run local races pretty much any weekend you like? Chances are our race calendar would be looking more sparse these days without the thousands who started running thanks to Galloway's Book on Running (the best-selling running book of all-time). Ok, ok, the walking thing. “Gallowalking,” the purists (myself included in my younger, dumber days) like to sneer — as if Pheidippides himself chiseled on tablets “thou shalt not walk.” https://www.podiumrunner.com/culture/jeff-galloway-may-be-the-most-important-person-in-the-history-of-the-running-movement/ https://linktr.ee/AND3RSON --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

No CIF State Meet so next weekend's Arcadia will be where California's finest track and field athletes will shine. Ethiopia is having their Olympic Marathon trials this weekend and their GOAT Kenenisa Bekele isn't happy and won't be competing. They are going with the top 3 make the team by KB and the 3rd and 10th fastest marathoners of all time won't be at the starting line. They are fit but believe the race was too last minute and too close to Tokyo. Good news for college track and field athletes is the NCAA has approved their prelims so the top 48 will get to compete at Nationals. Speaking of competition, this weekend is the last weekend to try and make the USATF 24 Hour World team. https://linktr.ee/AND3RSON --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

The Barkley Marathons is one the hardest races in the ultrarunning world. Created by founder Gary “Lazarus Lake” Cantrell, the race provides one of the most grueling ultramarathons ever created. The Barkley Marathons has gained in popularity over the past few years, mostly because of new documentaries and stories that take you inside the race weekend. One of the most popular is The Race That Eats Its Young, which came out in 2014. Another new film, titled Where Dreams Go to Die, documents the two-year stretch where ultrarunner Gary Robbins attempted to complete all five loops. You can view it on YouTube now. #AND3RSON #HeartFailureSurvivor #EnduranceAthlete In March of 2020, I slipped on the illegally dumped cooking grease in front of John's Burger and couldn't walk for 6 weeks. Trail running is fun and all but access is limited in training and racing. So I don't think it is that competitive compared to track and road racing. This lead me to look at his most famous and some say most infamous feat: His Everest summit(s). I did some half assed Internet research and watched “Path to Everest” and made this video. #kilianJornet #everest #mountainrunner The possibility that the greatest mountain runner in the world did not actually summit Everest twice without oxygen or fixed ropes in May 2017, as he claimed, has been raised before. https://runningmagazine.ca/trail-running/kilian-jornets-two-everest-summits-disputed-in-new-book/ Endurance News & Random Musings https://andynoise.com/ Andy Noise Gear https://andynoise.com/gear Andy Noise Experience Stay Healthy. The first place man and first place woman in the USATF 100 mile race will receive $2,500 each, while the second place man and woman in the USATF 100 mile race will receive $750 each. The third place man and woman in the USATF 100 mile race will receive $250 each. Win and set a new Jackpot USATF course record and score an additional $500. So if you win the race and set a new course & American record, you'll take home $4,000. The GOAT is back. Kipchoge's time (the fastest in the world this year in what has been a limited 2021 season) and his margin of victory (2:10 over his friend and training partner Jonathan Korir) sent a message to anyone discounting his chances after his surprise defeat in London last fall: in 2021, the path to an Olympic gold medal still goes through Eliud Kipchoge. Athing Mu's incredible 2021 season got even better as the Texas A&M freshman ran 1:57.73 at the Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor University to destroy the NCAA record and set a 2021 world outdoor leader. The previous NCAA outdoor record was 1:59.10 by Raevyn Rogers of Oregon from 2017, while Mu had run 1:58.40 indoors this year. Why You Should Train Your Vagus Nerve, and How Simple breathing exercises can relax your nervous system and improve performance. Stress is stress. Our bodies don't necessarily know the difference between where stressors originate. A hard training session, a fight with a partner, looming economic concern, uncertainty of the ongoing pandemic; each contributes to the stress response with multiple sources piling up leading to larger problems in mind and in body. For runners, this can become increasingly problematic on a number of levels, including impacting the ever important relationship between training, stress and recovery. https://twitter.com/AndyNoise This Podcast documents my Sixth Decade of Endurance Training. Entering today's Brooks Running 50K and Marathon in rural Oregon, American Des Linden — and just about everyone else — expected herself to break the 50K world best of 3:07:20 set by Great Britain's Aly Dixon in 2019. Besting the mark would require Linden to average just under 6:02 per mile — or 2:38:05 for a marathon plus another five miles — well within the capabilities of Linden, a 2:22:38 marathoner (Dixon's best in 17 marathons is 2:29:06). Less certain: whether Linden would become the first woman under 3:00. Linden, the 2018 Boston Marathon champ who came two seconds shy of winning the Boston in 2011 and 11 seconds short of making her third Olympic team at the US Olympic Trials in 2020, knows the feeling of just missing a major milestone. Today, she got to experience the other side of it, running 2:59:54 (5:47/mile) to destroy Dixon's record and, in the process, sneak under that coveted 3:00 mark. It's Running With The Burros Race Week

We invite individual runners and runners with burros to compete on a challenging course in the canyons of the southern Sierra Nevada. Let's get one thing straight right away. Burro is the Spanish word for donkey, which is the same as an ass. All three words have identical meaning. The jokes write themselves, but ass is a completely proper word not to be avoided. Burro races are a long tradition in the mining community. Locally, Randsburg, Lone Pine, Death Valley, and Beatty have had burro races as far back as 1897. There were even 2.5 day 42 mile races from Apple Valley to Big Bear. Pack burro racing in the current format has been a tradition since 1949 where runners on foot race long distances with a pack burro as a team (one burro with each runner), guiding them with only a halter, lead rope, voice, and their bond as a team. https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=80173 2020 Run with the Burros Photo Album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZP2v1Yc4KcKBRSpT7 #AND3RSON #HeartFailureSurvivor #EnduranceAthlete In March of 2020, I slipped on the illegally dumped cooking grease in front of John's Burger and couldn't walk for 6 weeks. Until the 1980s distance runners in the USA were amateurs for the most part and then the rules were changed and some become professional. Performance in big events was the way you landed a contract. But now a social media following is another route.... That fact remains that for elite runners who are fortunate enough to get one, a shoe contract is the most dependable way to make a living as a pro. But while in previous eras an athlete's value might be based primarily on podium finishes or qualification for marquee events like the Olympics, the brave new world of influencer marketing and social media has added another dimension. So to what degree have Instagram and Twitter upended the traditional approach for brands that are trying to figure out which athlete to sponsor? https://www.outsideonline.com/2422032/running-sponsorships-noah-droddy #AND3RSON #HeartFailureSurvivor #EnduranceAthlete In March of 2020, I slipped on the illegally dumped cooking grease in front of John's Burger and couldn't walk for 6 weeks. With her second book, Misty Blue: 3100 Miles of Smiles and Pain, to be published soon, Holder hopes to help dissolve negative stigma around powerwalkers and race walkers, she says. “Runners can look down on walkers, feeling like they're more superior. I've had joggers or slower runners catch up to me and make smart remarks. I've been pushed and told to get out of the way. We share the same road.” https://www.irunfar.com/2021/04/werunfar-profile-yolanda-holder.html Holder is also excited to help set the bar for the next generation of athletes. “The ladies in their forties are completely badass. I'm setting an example for those athletes as they get older. By the time they hit their sixties, they've gotta' break Yolanda's record.” #AND3RSON #HeartFailureSurvivor #EnduranceAthlete In March of 2020, I slipped on the illegally dumped cooking grease in front of John's Burger and couldn't walk for 6 weeks.
