Stuff In This Episode:  We talk with former Director of Creative Media for Football at North Carolina State University, Mike Jones, about what's next in his career and how he got to this point. Mike shares how it has been a life-long dream to work for the Charlotte Hornets, and the dream started as a player, then after he obtained a B.S. in Sport Management with a minor in Coaching from Liberty University in May 2018, it changed to being an agent. Shortly after that, he got experience with his first camera and fell in love with Photography.  Mike sought out mentors, worked hard, and created a career for himself as a creative, even though he struggled with that term. Mike shares stories of "making it happen" and working with celebrities. We discuss advice for creatives to make their dreams happen Be consistent. Do good work where you are at. You can get noticed. Stick Figure Suicide was a punk rock band from Milltown, New Jersey. The band was formed in 1997, and were part of the emerging emo-punk rock scene of the late 1990s in the Northeast. Their music has been described as a mastery of “old-school hardcore moves and hyperspeed tempos” with clean, precise, over-driven guitars, and they are classified as a blend of fast and melodic hardcore-punk, with lyrics that are occasionally humorous. They drew comparison to the music of the hardcore punk band Minor Threat, and even Against All Authority. In This Episode:   Sarah is a big fan of reality dating shows, she is a fan of relationships, that's why she spent so much time as a couples therapist. So she was very intrigued when she saw Christian Lee Cones on the show "The Courtship" which is like Bridgerton meets the Bachelor.  The Courtships' IMBD description is "Bringing true romance back, this Regency-style series will enable a group of eligible suitors to win the heart of the Heroine. Carriage rides, handwritten letters, this is a time-traveling game for love." Christian Lee Cones talks about the origin story of his journey of self discovery. He had a bit of an awakening during the pandemic, when there was nothing else to do than just sit with his demons. He started educating himself and working on himself wondering when happiness would become a permanent thing instead of just moments of happiness. When asked what was his proudest moment from being on The Courtship, Christian said that although the toxic masculine side of him wants to say winning the festival of strengths (he said jokingly), but it would probably when he came out as sexually fluid on the show. He received a lot for encouragement from people on social media for his bravery and even got messages of how his actions inspired others. We talk about how love is a choice and not just a feeling. So committed relationships continue to choose each other. Christian feels like he is very old fashioned and born at the wrong time. Christian talks about how he was perceived on the show, some people even called him a himbo.  We ask if a lot of people have been sliding into his DMs since the show. A Pastor's Perspective on Leadership with Drew Barker

In This Episode:   We talked about the Hillsong documentary (Hillsong Exposed), which explained the manipulations of the church, and how the trauma of being in a manipulated church can impact a persons life. We talk with Drew Barker who is currently serving in a church in Garner, North Carolina and spent his entire life in ministry in one way or another. Now he has over a decade of ministry experience, stretching from campus pastor to lead pastor to worship minister, guest, experience all across the area.  "Leadership is someone that's willing to empathize with you and serve you and is willing to help you discover something new on your own." "We've got to stop teaching that either you're a good leader or a bad leader, or that a leader is a title or where you're positioned in the organization." We talk about how leadership is something that can be learned, it is a skill not a gifting. We discuss how do we get to the lack of accountability? We go into how we are taught that confidence equates arrogance and we are taught these things way early on. And so instead of looking as a confidence, as a strength, as a culture, we're told that we can't be bragging. We can't be proud of our accomplishments. We can't be celebrating because we might have somebody else. The only thing that tips over into arrogance and a lack of humility is the lack of gratitude. We explain how we don't talk about strengths early enough with young people. Accountability is part of the skillset of leadership.  When you hear or bear witness to what gives you one? How have you reacted? I'm assuming that you have walked the walk and are like speaking up and then how do you have the courage to hold people accountable and make it not so secret anymore? We talk a lot about the doing what's best for the organization. And what unfortunately happens is you shield the person from the consequences, so nobody who was offended gets to heal. The person who did the offense doesn't get to heal. The goal of us learning from these leaders is this is what was done wrong. Why is this wrong now? How can we learn from this and get better so that we don't do that. Episode Sponsor: This episode of Girls Who Do Stuff is brought to you by Healing Green Farms. Janie was introduced to CBD products years ago while searching for an alternative to prescription medication for her young daughter's anxiety.  In her work with special needs children, she has seen the potential of the product for helping in a variety of contexts. Because she has always felt a strong connection to her farming roots, becoming a hemp grower on her family farm (she's a third-generation owner) is the perfect synthesis of all that's she's interested in, both personally and professionally! In 2018 the farm bill passed which allowed everyone to grow CBD, Janie had land and it was recommended that she grow hemp and she started to do her research. She decided to grow in her greenhouse.  Hemp absorbs everything from the environment, it acts like a sponge and soaks up toxins. That's why they wanted to plant in the greenhouse and not in the ground to control the quality of the product.  The law in North Carolina says that hemp needs to be less than 0.3% of THC, which is the chemical that makes marijuana. Janie talks about life on the farm, how they care for their plants, play them music, give them Reiki, etc. Janie shares a story about people breaking into her greenhouse and stealing from her. They think she is doing something illegal so she won't do anything, but that's not true. They grow more than just hemp at Healing Green Farms, including roses, and blueberries. We talk about farm Joe and how he came to help at the farm. Website | Facebook | InstagramEpisode Sponsor: This episode of Girls Who Do Stuff is brought to you by Healing Green Farms. As a teenager in the buckle of the Bible Belt, Zack Hunt was convinced the rapture would happen at any moment. Being ready meant never missing church, never sinning, and always listening to Christian radio. But when the rapture didn't happen, Hunt's tightly wound faith began to fray. If he had been wrong about the rapture, what else about his faith might not hold water? Part memoir, part tour of the apocalypse, and part call to action, Unraptured traces how the church's focus on escaping to heaven has it mired in decay. Teetering on the brink of irrelevancy in a world rocked by refugee crises, climate change, war, and rumors of war, the church cannot afford to focus on the end times instead of following Jesus in the here and now. Unraptured uses these signs of the times to help readers reorient their understanding of the gospel around loving and caring for the least of these. We talk about how Zach grew up in the bubble and how he grew in college. Now Zach still finds the way of Jesus as attractive although he feels less excited by many aspects of organized religion.Fundamentalism is a lot like racism. It's not something you're born with, it is something you're taught. Zach talks about meeting his wife in college who wasn't afraid to call him on his way of thinking. He also describes meeting with a college professor to talk about his views on theology where he thought his hardline approach would be rewarded his professor challenged him to start with an understanding that we are living in the end times now. After initially getting angry and rebelling for a couple of years in what Zach calls a pretty typical rebellion for a Christian kid (trying alcohol, listening to rock music, and getting a tattoo) he began to understand what his professor was saying. Zach felt that when you look at the Bible and need to interpret it you should begin from the standpoint of love and not fear. If your interpretation doesn't cause you to love God and your neighbor then your interpretation is wrong. You can follow Zack on social and check out his book on Amazon.

For many dealing with body images, it can start with being sick and tired of being sick and tired. We discuss the culture of an unhealthy body image perpetuated by marketing and people selling products designed for healthy living."With boudoir specifically, all I'm trying to do is hold up a mirror to who you are and how beautiful you are in the body that you currently reside in because it is a shock. When you see it the way somebody else sees it, it's a shock. We stand in the mirror, we never see ourselves joyful. We never see ourselves in an intimate setting. We never see that sparkle. So that's what the world sees." - KatelynWe have a blast talking about our body image journeys in classic raw and authentic "Girls Who Do Stuff" style.
