New episodes every 1st and 3rd Wednesday! Juncture represents the connection between films and dreams. Dreams are the films your mind creates. Films are dreams actualized. I use my multidisciplinary background to examine films and dreams through the use of symbolism, imagery, motifs, and other narrative and visual techniques involved in storytelling and understanding meaning. So the other day I was messaging with my friends about this Instagram video by comedian Wellington Ojukwu (https://www.instagram.com/tv/COTFjWSnSh0/). In the video he talked how too many movies and TV shows about black people or the black experience are often centered around trauma, violence against Black people, and hopelessness. I was just standing in my bathroom, getting ready to go to bed, and thinking about the films and tv shows mentioned. It made me think of this quote by Jane Espenson. She is a television writer and producer who served in those roles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer for five years. The quote goes: "If we can't write diversity into sci-fi, then what's the point? You don't create new worlds to give them all the same limits of the old ones." I want to emphasize the second sentence because it’s what came to mind when thinking about the conversation with my friends the day before. I'll be taking a trip down forbidden 90s teen movie lane to discuss the film Wild Things. Let's get confused and unconfused together. Today’s episode will cover the movie Cape Fear (1991), a remake of a 1962 film of the same name. Both films are based on the 1957 book, The Executioners, by John D. MacDonald. Cape Fear is a 1991 American psychological thriller film directed by Martin Scorsese. It stars Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, Joe Don Baker, Juliette Lewis, Robert Mitchum, and Gregory Peck. The film tells the story of a convicted rapist, who, mostly by using his newfound knowledge of the law and its numerous loopholes, seeks vengeance against a former public defender, whom he blames for his 14-year imprisonment because of the purposefully faulty defense tactics used during his trial. Exploring symbols in the film 1992 Candyman In today's episode I'll be analyzing and exploring the symbolism of the 1992 film "Candyman". Candyman is a 1992 American supernatural horror film written and directed by Bernard Rose and starring Virginia Madsen (Helen), Tony Todd (Candyman), Xander Berkeley (Trevor), Kasi Lemmons (Bernadette) and Vanessa Williams (Anne-Marie).
