It is a privilege to welcome actor John Hickman to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast.  John had always been interested in acting, but it wasn't until he won the opportunity to play a part in True Blood that he realized it was a path for him. His first scene on the HBO series turned into several more, and soon he became a part of Joe Manganiello's “wolf pack,” which included the opportunity to work with live wolves in Season Five.  John Hickman also worked on shows like The Originals and The Vampire Diaries on the CW. As a go-to character actor, John worked alongside some of Hollywood's biggest names, such as Bruce Willis, Ed Harris, James Franco, Nikki Glaser, Peter Facinelli, and Pierce Brosnan.  While his acting career was taking off, he was secretly battling an alcohol addiction. After filming four films back-to-back, John wound up in the hospital due to his drinking. However, it was an on-set meeting with Al Pacino that led him to get clean and sober. While detoxing on his next set, the Emmy and Oscar-winning actor pulled him aside one day and told him he needed to improve. John took that life-changing advice to heart and went to rehab, returning later to finish the film.    In addition to acting, John is dedicated to philanthropy. In 2011, he established the John Herman Hickman Foundation to aid victims of natural disasters and provide scholarships to the children of Peco Foods employees. A hardened CIA agent (Dave Bautista) meets his most challenging adversary yet, a 9-year-old girl (Chloe Coleman), whom he's supposed to be discreetly surveilling. She has other ideas in this cute 2020 action comedy also starring Kristen Schaal and Daniel Kim. "Leave No Trace," Disney+ and rental. In this slow-moving but involving drama from the Oscar-nominated writer and director of "Winter's Bone," a dad (Ben Foster) and his daughter (Thomasin McKenzie) live off the grid in Oregon until one small mistake tips them off to the authorities. Books:"The Invisible Hour," by Alice Hoffman. This novel from the "queen of magical realism" celebrates the power of reading. A copy of "The Scarlet Letter" causes a young girl to question she and her mother's involvement in an oppressive cult. "The Woman in White," by Wilkie Collins. This story originally published in installments in 1859-1860 is often cited in 100-best-novels-of-all-time lists and was one of the first to use multiple narrators to advance the plot. Vivid characters, a mysterious woman in white, true love, scheming upper-crust types, involuntary confinement in an insane asylum—it's all here!

Prime Video has just unveiled that Hamish Linklater will be the new voice of Batman in the highly anticipated animated series, "Batman: Caped Crusader." Fans got their first taste of his portrayal in a new clip released today, showcasing his take on the iconic Dark Knight. This new series is a continuation of the beloved Bruce Timm and Paul Dini animated series, which set the standard for Batman animations. With the passing of Kevin Conroy, who had become the definitive voice of Batman since "Batman: The Animated Series," there was a significant void to fill. Hamish Linklater steps into this role with a deep understanding of the legacy and expectations that come with it. Series creators J.J. Abrams, Bruce Timm, and Matt Reeves are thrilled to return to Gotham City. "We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City," Timm, Abrams, and Reeves stated. I'm concluding my second-anniversary celebration with another second-chance romance episode, featuring movies about finding romance later in life, especially after sadness and disappointment. This theme is one of my favorites, especially as I get older and wade back into the dating pool. It's a funny and bizarre experience at times, but these movies give me hope that my second chance is out there—if only for two hours.MoviesThe Face of Love is described as a "psychological romance" and it's hard to describe its emotional tone: dramatic longing, new romance elation and bittersweet melancholy combined. In other words, my idea of perfect romance right now. I believe they did love each other, even if it was based on shifting emotional sands — you'll have to tell me if you agree. Warning: this is not exactly an HEA, but the journey is beautiful.The Love Punch is the most ridiculous but adorable British farce set in motion after a divorced middle-aged couple, played by Emma Thompson and Pierce Brosnan, discover their retirement nest egg has been stolen through corporate mismanagement. How they get revenge and reconnect at the same time is delightful, but I would watch these two perform a diner menu, so perhaps I'm not the best judge.It's not everyone's cup of tea, but 10 Things We Should Do Before We Break Up about a single mother (Christina Ricci) who gets pregnant from a one-night stand with a handsome man-child (Hamish Linklater), and their decision to make an honest attempt to make the relationship work, is a HFN (Happy for Now) romance, and refreshingly real because of it.Marry Me is a super slick, commercial romcom, but I thought it was very entertaining, mainly because I was rooting for second-chance love for the middle-aged protagonists, winningly —and somewhat unrealistically —played by Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson.Dating and falling in love when you're older can be challenging, scary and push every single one of your buttons — and that's only the first few dates. Enough Said.If you've never seen Bette Davis as an ugly-duckling-turned-swan after escaping her controlling mother and falling in love with a handsome, unhappily married man in Now, Voyager, you haven't seen one of the best second-chance romances ever made.Based on the best-selling novel by Sinclair Lewis,  Dodsworth is the story of a self-made but unhappily married millionaire (Walter Houston) who realizes that money doesn't equal happiness after he meets a compassionate, intellectual widow (Mary Astor) and gets a second chance at true love.BooksThe slightly older, wiser, bantering protagonists of Beach Read and Book Lovers are a romantic delight.They're still young and gorgeous when they get their second chance but Bittersweet, part of the wonderful True North series, is a warm-hearted, hot, and passionate romance.The Dirty Little Midlife... a.k.a. Jesse Tyler Ferguson made his Broadway debut at the age of 21 as Chip in George C. Wolfe's revival of On The Town, and later went on to originate the role of Leaf Coneybear in Second Stage's Tony Award®-winning Broadway musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Drama Desk Award, "Outstanding Ensemble Performance"). In 2017, he won the Drama Desk Award for Best Solo Performance for his 40-character turn in the Broadway production of Fully Committed.
