Hey y'all, it's Kobe Warner! It's been almost eight months since I've sat down to talk to you, and as you well know: *almost* everything has changed. The most notable change is probably that I'm no longer a Georgia resident; I moved to NYC on January 31, 2025! I've been living here officially for a month and half now, and it's already been a surprising journey every step of the way thus far. From being on The Drew Barrymore Show with Chris Appleton and seeing my first Broadway show, to exploring the city and making new friends, all while experiencing growing pains and the reality of my expectations…  to the say the very least, I have a lot to catch you up on. The Grammys and The Oscars also happened and Beyoncé finally (and deservedly) won her AOTY prize. But most importantly: Gaga released Mayhem this past week so obviously this is where the SOTWs come from— Killah & How Bad Do U Want Me are my standouts today. Also obsessed with Garden of Eden because I have ears. Hey y'all! It literally blows my mind to write that exactly two years ago today, I posted the very first episode of KOBLIZZY. The episode is entitled "music" and it's an audio-only pod of me breaking down my favorite playlists at the time, which is very on brand & one of my favorite pastimes. What inspired me to create the KOBLIZZY podcast, however, was attending RuPaul's Drag Race Werq the World tour in 2022. I've seen the show again since then, but this was my first opportunity to see a drag show of that caliber. My mom & I were front row AND I SWORE TO GOD that Jaida Essence Hall was making eyes at me. Heyyyy y'all! You already know what time it is. This week I'm digging into all things 'Eternal Sunshine' by Ariana Grande. While I am extremely late to this party, I've been afforded plenty of time to get accustomed to this record and... I LOVE IT! Ariana's first concept album includes motifs of questioning your current relationship, ending it, and moving on to another you clearly prefer. I fantasize about it all time. The music feels very Y2K pop & R&B, while the overall theme is based on the 2004 film 'Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind.' This album is well done, catchy, and the music & vocal production work is stunning. I also breakdown my love for one of the most iconic reality TV shows of all time, Dance Moms. I've been rewatching the show for the first time since I first watched it as a kid, and my opinions have definitely shifted with time. I also had the privilege of seeing Tiny Habits live in Atlanta on their first headline tour, and that definitely comes up. The SOTW is 'Tyrant' from Beyoncé's 'COWBOY CARTER.' This album is NUTS! Ever since its release, I've been listening exclusively to COWBOY CARTER by Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter herself. This artist doesn't just reinvent her sound- she transforms masterfully & always maintains her own sense of self in the art. Beyoncé is second to NOBODY! Argue with your mother. And the legends agree- we know this thanks to cameos from Dolly P & Mr. Willie Nelson, as well as Linda Martell. Hey y'all! This week on KOBLIZZY, I fawn over Dune: Part Two. It's just that good. I love movies, but I'm not usually a huge fan of scientific fiction. Dune definitely has crossover ability that supersedes the specifics of its genre. I do find, however, that many series' of the Dune variety (ie; Star Wars, The Hunger Games) have foundational plot points that center colonialism & exploitation. Hi everybody! I attended the RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR this passed Saturday night, and I have truly never seen anything like it. Not only was it one of the most fun nights of my life, but it also truly is the best concert I have ever seen. There was a perfect balance professionalism, production value, and personality. This episode of KOBLIZZY is devoted almost entirely to Beyoncé, but I also briefly get into the recently announced SAG-AFTRA strike that is stopping production on essentially all union TV/movie projects. This past week, I was afforded the distinct pleasure of meeting Jorgeous from RuPaul's Drag Race S14 at a gay bar in Atlanta! She was so gracious, and it was a pleasure to talk to her for a few minutes and take some photos. She also lit the stage on firrrreeee! I talk about how much I love drag in general and how I would love to be a drag queen… the only thing that has kept me from it this long is how much goes into it - hair removal, make-up artistry, wig-styling, garment-making, padding, pantyhose, tucking… OH MY! On June 11, non-binary Broadway performers J. Harrison Ghee (Some Like it Hot) and Alex Newell (Shucked) made Tony Awards history by becoming the first two out non-binary actors to win Leading Actor in a Musical and Featured Actor in a Musical, respectively. Hey y'all! This week I talk about colorism & how privilege is informed by proximity to whiteness. Of course I'm still me, so the anecdote I use to introduce this conversation is the treatment of RHOP's Candiace Dillard-Bassett. You don't have to be a housewives fan to be privy to this conversation, though, as I just used the gaslighting of Candiace as an example of blatant colorism. As a lightskin/mixed black person, I feel a certain responsibility to stand up for other black folks (especially black women) whose voices are often drowned out by the noise. With this being said: I'd like to acknowledge that I am aware I'm not an ideal leader for a conversation like this and welcome any of you to reach out to me if there's something you feel I missed or misrepresented.
