Hey everybody, welcome to KOBLIZZY! This week I'm celebrating queerness in all capacities, and specifically making a point to uplift drag artists and trans/non-binary peoples. This past week, I was afforded the distinct pleasure of meeting Jorgeous from RuPaul's Drag Race S14 at a gay bar in Atlanta! She was so gracious, and it was a pleasure to talk to her for a few minutes and take some photos. She also lit the stage on firrrreeee! I posted an iPhone video of one of her numbers on my personal TikTok account @koblizzy. I talk about how much I love drag in general and how I would love to be a drag queen… the only thing that has kept me from it this long is how much goes into it - hair removal, make-up artistry, wig-styling, garment-making, padding, pantyhose, tucking… OH MY! On June 11, non-binary Broadway performers J. Harrison Ghee (Some Like it Hot) and Alex Newell (Shucked) made Tony Awards history by becoming the first two out non-binary actors to win Leading Actor in a Musical and Featured Actor in a Musical, respectively. Thank you, God! I hope you enjoy this episode! I love y'all and I'll see you next time! xo SOTW: Haute & Champagne Shit by Janelle Monae https://linktr.ee/kobewarner

Mitra Kalita & Sara Lomax-Reese; and guests Joyce M. Abbott, Educator & Climate Manager Philadelphia School District ducator & Abbott Elementary Namesake; Sheryl Lee Ralph, Leading Actor for ABC Comedy Series ‘Abbott Elementary' & ActivistDescription: Can you remember the last time when the challenges that inner city public school teachers face were the subject of a popular TV series? Abbott Elementary — which has just been renewed for a second season on ABC — does just that. The Philadelphia school on TV is fictional, but the challenges it faces are all too real. Closely based on the school that series creator (and star) Quinta Brunson attended, and especially her experiences with Ms. Abbott, her 6th grade teacher, the show combines art, education and activism. On this month's Meet The BIPOC Press with URL Media, real-life educator Joyce Abbott joins acclaimed actress and activist Sheryl Lee Ralph from the series, to discuss what the show's success shows us about this moment, when educators, especially teachers of color, are leaving the profession in droves. Can a TV show help stem the tide, shift the culture and change policy? Among her many accolades, Ralph starred in the original Broadway production of Dreamgirls. Is quality education for all, a dream? Laura Flanders and co-hosts Mitra Kalita and Sara Lomax-Reese don't think it should be.Full research and reading list to further delve into the conversation is available at Patreon.com/theLFShow Guests:Joyce M. Jefferson Mays is currently on Broadway in his original interpretation of "A Christmas Carol" doing perhaps what he does best: playing multiple roles in a single show. Jefferson recalls the strange beginning of how it all started, which was when he and his wife ran smack into Matt Schackman, the Artistic Director of Geffen Playhouse, as they were walking their dogs. He was eventually inspired to base their version on Dickens' original, one-man version. Jefferson also has his parents to thank for reading "A Christmas Carol" to him and his siblings when they were young, which sparked his love for performing and storytelling, thinking it was theatre in its purest form. Decades of experience later, he reflects on how this year has been the year of the understudy and swing, and how their talent and heroism changed his whole idea of what a company means. While performing on stage brings him joy, it's those moments off stage that makes him appreciate the magic of theatre even more. Jefferson admits to gravitating towards storytelling, sharing that this allows him to explore characters and their complexity endlessly. And while he doesn't have a list of roles to play before he reaches a certain age, he enjoys getting "mugged or ambushed by a production" for different kinds of roles. He shares what it's like to grow up with older siblings and the privileges that come with it, hearing the voices of his parents when he's performing on stage, and how his sense of curiosity and wonder motivates him to keep performing. Jefferson Mays is an actor and a three-time Tony Award nominee for his performances in "Oslo", "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder", and "I Am My Own Wife" a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Doug Wright, where he played over 40 different roles and won for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play. His other stage credits include "The Front Page", "The Best Man", "Pygmalion", and "Journey's End". His TV credits include "The Americans", "Westworld", "Nurse Jackie", "Law and Order: SVU", "The Closer", "Julia", "Perry Mason", "Hacks" and a guest role on "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt". He was most currently seen on Broadway's "The Music Man", and recently completed his one-man rendition of "A Christmas Carol" and is now bringing the same show to Broadway. He has also appeared in numerous films, including "Inherent Vice", "Ned Rifle", "Showing Up", "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs", "Kinsey" "Rebel in the Rye", and "The Giver" among others. Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm are two great examples of this – two shows famously about nothing (the trivialities of life), yet turned into art that makes us laugh and relate. In long term relationships, there are no shortage of mundane moments…infuriating moments…and all the other moments in between that can be dismissed as forgettable or necessary evils you have to endure. Our guest today, Madelyn Moon, encourages us to take these relationship moments and make art out of them – just like Larry David would – to bring more life, play and heat into your relationship. Fellas, this might be a good episode to invite your ladies to listen along with you. Who is Madelyn Moon? Madelyn is a guide for women seeking to discover, claim and own all of her inherently wild and artistic sides so that she can express her true self in all areas of life, especially her love life Madelyn is the author of Artist of Love, The Modern Woman's Guidebook to Unleashing Her Creativity, Deepening Her Relationships and Becoming the Leading Actor in Her Own Life Madelyn has been on the show before with one of our most popular episodes of all time, 5 Ways Men Lose Credibility with Women In this Episode: What it means to “create art” out of the mundane and frustrating moments in relationships How a man who knows how to create art out of these moments becomes a more trustworthy man How an artful physical touch can calm your woman's nervous system in a heated moment How lack of defining a shared purpose for your relationship…leads to a relationship who's default purpose is merely “staying together” 4 ways to create art in your relationship
Where are we today? Where do we want to be in the future? How do we get there? On today's episode we hear stories from Theresa Beauchamp and Delin Ruhl, two people who've taken action in moments of injustice. Our guests share their remarkable tales of standing up against oppression, whether that confrontation happens behind the lines of a phone bank or face to face in the streets. Theresa Beauchamp (she/her) is a retired family practice Physician Assistant and full-time political activist focused on reproductive and racial justice and the fight against voter suppression. Boogie boarding, e-biking with her husband, live theatre, hiking in the Sierras and playing with her grandchildren rejuvenate her along her journey as a lifelong activist. Delin Ruhl (they/them) is a musician and storyteller based out of Portland, OR. Locally, Dell plays alto saxophone for the Carroll Raum Swing Orchestra, and flute for the group Jump Up Pup. They have also played whistle and bodhran with the group Possibly Irish at Enchanted Forest, and enjoy performing original sets at venues like The Ranger Station and Floyd's Coffee. Theater credits include Is He Dead? and The Glass Menagerie (Hawai‘i Pacific University), for which they received a Hawai‘i State Theater Association Po‘okela Award for Leading Actor. Regional theater credits include A Christmas Carol (Goodman Theatre), Circle Mirror Transformation; Mauritius (Hawai‘i Repertory Theater), and Someone Else's Slippas (The Arts at Mark's Garage). Offstage, they can often be found debating with their parrot, snuggling their 20-pound Flemish Giant rabbit, or writing limericks.

Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, he spent much of his childhood at Busch Stadium during the heart of the Cardinals' great run in the 1980's with Whitey Herzog at the helm. To this day, he still gets major adrenaline rushes on stage when his performances coincide with Cardinals' World Series games, and has some very memorable stories about those occasions. In an extremely candid conversation, he discusses growing up in what he describes as a very Catholic household with 10 other siblings, and how sports and performing were always at the forefront of his passions. He also takes us through some of the major personal triumphs he's experienced within the Broadway community, having found the ultimate teammates that bring out the best in him to help propel some of his greatest grand slams even in trying times. Anyone from Joe Torre to Keith Hernandez to Bruce Springsteen has come to see Butz perform on stage, and even with all of his success as an actor, he's as humble as anyone we've gotten to speak with. That humbleness, as well as his gratitude and brilliant comedic wit are on full display in this conversation that can be enjoyed by baseball and Broadway fans alike! In this episode, host, Maureen Dixon Harrison, had the great honor of talking with theater arts professor and San Francisco Bay Area theater legend Danny Scheie as he was preparing for a live reading event of his signature piece, Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, which will be a fundraiser for the newly established Danny Scheie Scholarship Fund. The play will be presented over Zoom on April 23, 2021 and stars Scheie as the Dromio twins -- a part he's made famous over the years -- along with an impressive cast of UCSC students and alumni. After over 30years at UC Santa Cruz, Professor Scheie is retiring from teaching, but thankfully not from acting. He's enjoyed a spectacular career as a stage actor, winning numerous awards, including the Bay Area Critics Circle Award three times for Leading Actor; two times for Supporting Actor, and once for directing. Scheie also has earned consistently rave reviews from major publications like the New York Times, Variety, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times and several others for the wide array of principal roles he's performed at top theaters all over the country. As you'll discover in this insightful talk, he candidly discusses his loves, his loses, his addictions, and even his fears. His sharp and hilarious observations make him the ideal guest, and it's no wonder that he's not only a very beloved professor, but also an exceptionally talented actor. We hope you'll enjoy this lively conversation which, due to continuing COVID restrictions, was recorded on Zoom. This podcast was produced, edited, written and hosted by Maureen Dixon Harrison, Asst. Dan is one of Australia's leading actors and television presenters, with a career spanning over 22 years. Strike Back, Neighbours, The Bill, Infini, Dancing with the Stars, Wild Boys and City Homicide are just some of the shows you would may have seen him on. He has travelled the globe for his craft, pushed the boundaries and been on the hunt for growth. He poignantly states: "I now view collaboration as king and must remain king. Where ego will isolate, spirit will collaborate." For someone whose lived out of suitcase since a 17 year old, he shares how Covid-19 has allowed him to be in the one spot, using this pause to be present. Lockdown has also been a gift of time to bring the "needle back to zero", immersing into a new life shift - as a first time father with his five month old son. We talk about mental focus at the cost at times of balance. There are many nuggets of wisdom for those pursuing career paths that are highly competitive or where the odds are stacked against you. He emphasis that successful actors and individuals are not ones that wait for work to come to them, that you need to use every opportunity to create and develop. This conversation discusses the evolution of his career and what it truly means to commit to a craft where the metrics are not defined and are also subjective. Dan is a weapon of an athlete!!! In my opinion he is an example of someone who makes the most of ALL available hours in a day, training for triathlons & IRONMAN at a high level and also working as an actor. Dan admits the pitfalls of trying to pursue both simultaneously (e.g. when he first moved to LA and was training like a pro athlete - resulting in a skinny physical frame, not ideal for the military/DEA agent roles he was auditioning for.) We speak about the value and challenge of method acting; preparing for his role in Strike Back and how confronting train for the role Jordan in the midst of conflict in the Middle East. We discuss his relationship with the veteran community in Australia and abroad, and the support they have given him through his role in Strike Back. Dan is intelligent, highly reflective and generous in how he shares his insights. Enjoy this epic chat!!

Ein Mord im Filmstudio Babelsberg führt Gereon Rath wieder in die finsteren Ecken Berlins der 1920er-Jahre. Seit 24.
