The four-piece rock band Western Education is another old favorite from our Boston days. We've seen them on stage many times and it's always been a blast, so of course, we had to have them on. Band members Greg Alexandropoulos, Will Hunt and Devin Vaillaincourt join us to recap their most recent singles, which touch on some pretty serious topics, such as the loss of a loved one to cancer and trying to help someone dealing with mental health struggles. The band talks about the real-life people whose stories inspired the music and what it means to share them. Western Education has been around since 2012, and we go into the “good ol' days” of promoting music, how things have changed and how they've changed with them. We talk about favorite Boston venues – ours and theirs -- and some of the stages they've performed on. Opening this episode is an excerpt from the band's recent single, “Catherine What Have You Done” and closing things out is the new release, “Madeline in the Hurricane,” which was released on Nov. 15.

We got together, finally… we have had so much going on, it felt great to get back at it! This week we sat down to discuss the newest singles that had been released. Mostly because we have been too busy to do much research (just being honest). We missed y'all! As I type this I'm dealing with a cut on my eye, so I apologize for the short/ sweet description. Not sure if anyone reads these all the way through, but if so, I'll do better next time! We love y'all! Stay Safe! God Bless! Rob McNelley, the acclaimed Nashville guitarist known for his collaborations with icons like Bob Seger, Dolly Parton, and Luke Combs, has just released his latest single, “The Other Side.” This slow-burning track, built on a growling bass line and featuring McNelley's signature guitar prowess, is the newest addition to his series of Americana-flavored singles that have been rolling out throughout the year. “The Other Side” follows the release of McNelley's two previous singles, “Circus Is Leaving Town” and “Right Back To You,” each showcasing the versatility and depth of his songwriting and musicianship. “The Other Side is a song about learning how to see another point of view and expanding your mind to other possibilities,” McNelley shares. “It's about leaving the possibility open that you may be wrong about things you've always thought, and that that is ok. It's about evolving around a point of view and getting your ego out of the way so that you can truly see the other side of any subject matter. Plus, there's some more focus on the guitar playing side of what I do with this one.” Links https://www.instagram.com/rmcnelley/?hl=en https://www.youtube.com/user/rmcnelley www.instagram.com/rmcnelley Thanks for listening in, and thanks to our sponsors, and behind the scene crew that makes this podcast happen :) Music Matters with Darrell Craig Harris is sponsored by Shure Microphones, Kathy Ireland, ZOOM Audio. Guns N Roses ruled in the 80s, breaking up and falling apart in the 90s. Axl Rose kept the project going with all new musicians, producing perhaps the most expensive album of all time -- 2008's Chinese Democracy. Estimated to cost $13 million dollars, Chinese Democracy is a bloated album that reveals a lot about the headspace and futility of Axl Rose. Since the album released, Guns N Roses has gotten back together to tour, releasing singles along the way -- including Absurd, Hardskool, Perhaps, and The General. These songs aren't great, but if they keep the tours moving, there are fans to please.

Jeremy Allen White is seen at the Critics Choice Awards wearing a rose pin on his lapel that is tied back to Rosalia. Selena Gomez tells everyone she's quitting social media and then returns 18 hours later. Ayo Edebiri is taking home all the awards while shouting out Ireland over an internet joke. ⚡ Lil Nas X debuts a new song and music video for “J Christ,” causing much controversy among christian netizens. Lil Nas X is depicted as Jesus, contrasting to his music video for “Montero” in which he was quite literally dancing with the devil. The pop singer took to Instagram to post an apology video, claiming that his intention wasn't to mock christianity. We discuss Lil Nas's history with provocative art and whether he had any deeper intentions. We also look at the ways Madonna and Lady Gaga used christian iconography to make statements, and the backlash they faced. ⚡ Ariana Grande is back with her single “yes, and?” teasing at what could have been an iconic follow-up to the internet's favorite “thank u, next.” Instead, the single acts as a diss-track aimed at the general public for having opinions about her life including her relationship with Ethan Slater and her change in appearance and body weight. We discuss the trade off of having a private life as a public figure, and the way the song's message is an example of the widening disconnect between celebrity and public. Enjoy this episode? Punk Legends Return With New Singles Compilation#punkmusic #newalbum #newwave #compilation #powerpop The Furys are one of Southern California's first New Wave/Punk/Powerpop bands! The group's first single was released in 1977 (“Hey Ma” b/w “Jim Stark Dark”), and 1978's “Say Goodbye to the Black Sheep” was an international success, garnering extensive airplay, press, and live performances. According to founding member and lead vocalist Jeff Wolfe, “The Furys formed in 1977 as a reaction to the dreadful noise that was on the radio at that time.” 1979 saw the release of the “Moving Target” / “We Talk We Dance” single which elicited substantial critical response. Now the band is back with a new singles collection titled “New Wave Hit Parade” which encompasses all three of the group's vinyl singles from 1977-1979 as well as The Furys 1987 mini-album “Indoor/Outdoor”. Also included is The Furys 2016 digital single “The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore”. This is the first ever digital release of the vinyl records. In conjunction with “New Wave Hit Parade” and upcoming releases of new material, The Furys will be performing live in Autumn 2023. Long standing members, Jeff Wolfe and Dave Lewty will be joined by guitarists Cliff Roman (The Weirdos), Jeff Jourard (The Motels) and Ray Herron (The Sloths) on drums.“New Wave Hit Parade” is available through all streaming platforms: https://album.link/tf-nwhpTo purchase The Furys “New Wave Hit Parade”: https://thefurysband.bandcamp.com/album/new-wave-hit-paradeTo purchase The Furys singles:“New Wave Girl”: https://bit.ly/thefurys-newwavegirl“Action Reaction”: https://bit.ly/thefurys-actionreactionTo purchase The Furys EP:https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-furys-ep/id859677503The Furys official website: https://thefurysband.comThe Furys reverbnation: http://www.reverbnation.com/thefurys4The Furys Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/The-Furys-148310765373316The Furys 21st century FB page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/446752238687819/?fref=tsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thefurysband/X: https://twitter.com/thefurysbandFor all our social media and other links, go to: Linktree: https://linktr.ee/the_vibes_broadcastPlease subscribe, like, and share!
