Cancel culture and declining social skills have made being vulnerable, exposing weaknesses, or even trusting a community a really scary thing in motherhood. We're afraid to admit that things aren't going so hot, or that we aren't enjoying the process. We don't want to be labeled a "bad mom." So, as a result, we have created a generation of mothers that suffer in silence and put on a good face. But do you know what is one of the main things that drags out feelings of burnout for months, or even years? ...Suffering, alone, in silence.Burnout is the primary focus of MWO and what we aim to help moms with. In this episode, I'll share our process for supporting and validating burnout, guiding moms to pull their heads back above water and find joy + confidence in this role. Motherhood is hard. And burnout is a really common and valid feeling that we all experience at some point in time - some of us for a day, and others for weeks, months, or even years. But we can't take up residence and LIVE in burnout. There is a way out (we promise!). Support the Show.Let's connect on social media! We know the feeling of burnout in motherhood all too well - but it truly doesn't have to be this way! In today's pep talk, I share some practical tips for establishing systems in your day-to-day to help your family, help you. Utilizing systems can help you scale your efficiency, spread out your workload, and feel less burnt out. As moms, we NEED good systems in place if we truly want to enjoy motherhood. If you give these a try in your own life, we'd love to hear what you think! "Maybe I'm just not doing this right" - isn't this a thought that crosses each of our minds at some point in time in motherhood? We look up and see SO many moms that just seem to be killing it. They don't look stressed, or frazzled, or exhausted. So, are we doing something wrong? Nope. Motherhood is hard. Motherhood is exhausting. Motherhood is meant to challenge us. And motherhood can be an immense sacrifice, often. Just because it leads to all of these things does NOT mean you aren't doing it right or that you aren't a "good mom." Together, we can support each other and remind each other that everyone has hard days. We're all perfectly designed for this role and our children...and we've got this! Together we can achieve our mission. You're doing an amazing job, mama. Your struggles are valid, but you don't have to stay miserable in motherhood. We've got you. Support the Show.Let's connect on social media! As a mom, we're the thermostat for our family - how we show up and respond to each situation directly influences the way our family does as well. Motherhood can feel so heavy, and even more so when we're sleep deprived, burnt out, and can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. My guest on today's podcast interview, Mica Deshaw, is a brilliant pediatric sleep coach who GETS IT. We have both had our fair share of sleep deprivation and we've been where so many moms are at when it comes to infant and toddler sleep. But it doesn't have to be this way! So often, we accept sleep deprivation as the norm. As if it's a non-negotiable component of motherhood that you have to endure, like it or not. That's so far from the truth. Mica speaks all about what sleep training actually is, their signature method at Rested Mama, Happy Baby, how quality sleep can more positively impact both mom AND baby, and a huge opportunity for you to explore future career opportunities as a mom that support your ability to put your family first! How often do we make a post on social media, showing off some cherished family photos or bragging on a child's accomplishments, only to revisit the post a handful of times or more to see how many likes or comments it received? Social media has conditioned us to be a "gold star" society and now we're addicted to sharing details of our lives that others will clap for...almost as validation that "hey, you're a great mom!"But on the flip side, we are constantly scrolling past the accomplishments of our friends (acquaintances) and their children. And sometimes this leaves us feeling like..."what am I doing wrong?"We have to bring ourselves back to reality. As moms, we want to highlight the good. We want to brag on our kids. And genuinely, we want to celebrate the accomplishments of our friends' children! But it doesn't tell the whole story and can leave us feeling less than. Sometimes we need a pep talk to remind us to do a reality check with ourselves. We are never alone on this journey and every mom has her share of struggles. Every child has their share of obstacles that their mama fights alongside them. Every family has growing pains and conflict every once in a while. Just because everyone is smiling and looks well put together in the family photo on your social media feed does NOT mean things are perfect and is not the standard you should judge yourself against. I hope you love today's pep talk, mama!Support the Show.Let's connect on social media! There's no doubt we're an integral component in our family's dynamic, but is everything really going to come crashing down around us if we let something fall to the wayside? Probably not. We're going to step into some humility today because the immense amount of pressure we put on ourselves to be perfect must stop. We're hardest on ourselves when it comes to all things personal AND motherhood. We have this belief that everyone is paying such close attention to our every move, as if every decision we make is up for judgment, when the reality is...they probably don't care!  We have to simply make decisions based on what is best for us and our family unit. Learn to pick your battles and just keep doing your best to show up every single day. We're afraid to go against the crowd. We don't want to hurt feelings. Go say no, mama. No. Nothing else. Today's episode is so fun! I had the opportunity to sit down with homeschooling and homesteading mom of four, Hannah Burlbaw to talk all about raising good humans. Homesteading and all things that go into it - growing your own food, raising chickens and getting fresh eggs, baking fresh bread - are all the rage lately. We're all waking up and realizing that we want to know what's in our food and develop a more self-sustaining lifestyle. It's the greatest movement to witness, in my opinion. Hannah shares her journey that led her here, how she balances being an entrepreneur while homeschooling her children, embracing the stay-at-home mom lifestyle, and the beauty of our motherhood role. I also ask Hannah questions about homeschooling and what she's found that works best for her and her family. If you dream it, you can do it mama. Pep Talk - Breaking Generational Curses

We can all agree that we want our children to turn out better than us, right? I think that's one of the few things we can definitely all agree on as moms actually! And for good reason. Sometimes this requires breaking some generational curses that our family has passed down over and over. But in order to do this, we have to work on ourselves first. We have to spend time really reflecting and decide how we want to show up, then take action to do so. Because even if you didn't experience trauma in childhood, there's likely things you learned from your own upbringing that you can do better for your own kids. Our generation is pretty terrible at slowing down, making time for reflection, and spending time on self-improvement. We move at full speed 24/7, from the moment our feet hit the floor in the morning until our head hits the pillow at night. In this episode, I walk you through self-reflection to determine what actions you can take as a mom to break generational curses in your family. You can be the change, mama. You can change the outcome for your children, grandchildren, and anyone who comes after you in your family tree. You're never alone in this journey of growth. Keep hanging out with us here at MWO and we'll help you get where you want to go, reclaiming your joy and confidence in motherhood. -----Try Earthley Wellness today using discount code CHOOSENATURAL or COMEBACK for 10% off! We all doubt ourselves sometimes. It doesn't help that in motherhood in this day and age, all of the opinions circulate like a merry-go-round in our heads. But motherhood wasn't designed with room for doubt. Moms were designed with "mama bear" type instincts, the ability to interpret and protect our children like no one else can. Our presence was designed to be territorial, and we should be confident in our own abilities. There are three areas of motherhood that you should NEVER allow doubt to creep in, and we talk about them in today's episode! Listen to today's pep talk as a reminder to shut out the noise, stop overcomplicating the process, and quit comparing yourself to other moms! You were perfectly designed for this and no one could ever take your place. "I have to laugh or else I might cry." Have you ever felt this way in motherhood? Because I sure have! That time our son threw a tantrum that was (no joke) 2 hours long, or when our daughter has us operating on 1-2 hours of sleep a night, or how about that time the Roomba dragged dog poop through my house (MORTIFYING). Look, we've all had those moments where motherhood feels everything except funny. But if we can't find it in us to laugh at the challenges, the struggles, the complete dumpster fire that is our day-to-day as moms...then how in the world will we survive? This week's interview is with the amazing Alyce Chan, a stand-up comedian out of New York who has re-built her brand around all things motherhood - finding humor in the relatable moments that we all go through! Alyce has a global presence, gracing venues such as The Stand and the New York Comedy Club, as well as Yuk Yuk's in Canada, among others. She was also a finalist at the esteemed Boston Comedy Festival in May 2023 and her work has been recognized by Vogue. To say the least, she's incredible. The best part? She's a mom, just like you. When she's not absorbed in comedy, she's cracking jokes and clinging to her "cool mom" title that she holds with her two wild boys. You're going to love today's lighthearted episode, reminding you that we ALL struggle sometimes, but that the best way to survive is to get really good at laughing at ourselves. With warmer weather approaching, lots of moms start to worry about getting our summer body ready for shorts, tank tops, and swimsuit season. We start to get self-conscious about how we've "bounced back" from the season of motherhood we're in, or whether or not we hit our goal weight on the scale. While I'm a total advocate for prioritizing your health in motherhood and I think this is important, I also believe we should find joy in every season of this journey. After two babies in two years, I'm not feeling super confident heading in to "hot mom summer." But that isn't going to keep me from doing hot mom summer things with my kids. When our kids look back at their lives, they won't remember what the scale said when you stepped on, your jean size, body fat percentage, how your shorts exposed your cellulite, or ANY of those other things we get caught up in as moms. They don't care. I promise. But what they WILL remember if we were present, engaged, and how we speak about ourselves in these moments. It's not about how you look, but about how you show up for them. Today's pep talk is your reminder that you can't let fear of judgment about the way you look be the reason you don't make great memories with your kids this summer. Support the showLet's connect on social media! Each morning, my son goes off to school and I tell him: "Listen to your teachers. Be nice to your friends. Be a kind boy."I think a lot of us say these types of motherly things. We want our children to grow up to be good humans. We want to do a good job with them. There's a saying I love - "Be the change you want to see in the world, but I think it can give a bystander effect..."someone else will change the world, so I don't have to." It's not actually me that's supposed to change the world. We're always looking to someone else. We want someone else to be the change. Someone else to show us how to be a good mom. Someone else to tell us exactly how breastfeeding should work, how or what we should feel our child, how to discipline, how to raise our children to be empathetic. We want validation and action to come from all of these external sources when the reality is, it's inside of each of us. Today's episode is about deciding to be the change in your own home. It's about deciding to show up each day and model for our children how to be kind, respectful, healthy, empathetic, responsible...the list goes on and on.  We can raise good humans by letting our children witness what it means to be good humans. Today's episode is about the freedom we have as moms to change our minds sometimes. If we're constantly striving to grow, evolve, and challenge ourselves, then change is inevitable. We shouldn't shy away from it. Hardly any of us are the exact type of mom we thought we would be, myself included. We can probably think back to conversations we had before children when we said "I will never"...and we were wrong. So while we might have this idea of who we will be or maybe even have an unrealistic expectation for ourselves, when push comes to shove and we're under pressure, sometimes those things change. Sometimes I think we resist growth because we're afraid to be anything except what we're known as. We don't want to deprive the people in our lives from what they expect of us. What they expect of us is comfortable. But growth is anything but that. It's okay to change. And it's okay to change your mind about the way you do things as a mom. Today's pep talk will remind you of that. Support the showLet's connect on social media! We've painted this picture in the motherhood space that "toxic positivity" is this awful, ugly thing that should be our enemy. It has conditioned us to resent a positive mindset, to resist growth, and to disregard other perspectives. I want to challenge you with a new way of viewing this with today's episode. You see, I believe the real problem, the real enemy in society and motherhood, is the inability to provide validation. We have terrible communication skills. If you are on the Toxic Positivity train, it could be because you're not feeling validated in your own struggle.Motherhood is hard. There are parts that are so ugly. It's exhausting. And us moms tend to take the brunt of it when it comes to challenges. So sometimes we just need to say that out loud and for someone to say "AMEN SISTER!" We need someone to remind us that we aren't crazy. But we also need someone to remind us that it gets better. It's a necessary thing in our life, not a toxic influence we need to shun away. We need the moms who are 10 steps ahead of us to look back and say, "Hey, you've got this."Let me know what you think of today's episode and just know mama, you're doing a really amazing job.Support the showLet's connect on social media! To help us kick off Season 2 of the Moms Working Overtime Podcast in 2024, I thought it was time to go back to our roots and talk about "overtime" hours. Mom culture can be so toxic to our mindset. It seems to either glamorize motherhood, making it appear clean and pretty and always picture perfect, or it capitalizes on the hard parts of motherhood, making the hard parts of this role primary focus and putting a magnifying glass on our struggles. What we need more of the motherhood space is mom who show how messy it is, how hard it can be sometimes, but also how much of an immense blessing it is to get the opportunity to raise these small humans. In this episode, we revisit the mission of Moms Working Overtime, the power of overtime hours, and some things to remember as you pursue your best self. Support the showLet's connect on social media! No mom is safe when it comes to owning our crazy. I don't care WHAT type of mom you say you are - you have some crazy in you, too. We all do. It's what makes motherhood so special, and it's why only we can do it the way we do.  Today's podcast is all about owning the things about us that make us the moms we are.As different as you might think you are from another mom in your life, you're just as crazy as she is. And the amazing thing about it all is that no mom is "right" or "wrong" in how she parents. So if you're listening to this podcast and wondering if you're doing things "right" or if you're a good mom...let me tell you, none of us even know what that means!!! We are going to be much happier as moms when we acknowledge this and own our own crazy - our own beliefs, actions, and the decisions that we make in motherhood. Owning your crazy gives you freedom from ALL of the things about motherhood that make you feel judged, guilty, less than, doubtful, failing...insert ANYTHING here! Decide where you stand on the important things and OWN THAT. Each of us is just doing the best that we can for ourselves and our families given our experiences and circumstances. Our instincts are strong for a reason - we are right to listen to them. Lastly, we talk on today's episode about the fact that you can change your crazy as you go. Own that too. Growth is something to be celebrated. Don't be afraid to communicate your stance on something just because someday it could change. Mama, you know what's best for you and your family. Happy New Year, MWO Community!!! Today is a fresh start. But so is every day. Yup, you heard me. Today is no different than ANY other opportunity that you have any other time that the sun rises to make a change in your life.  (This isn't your typical New Years Resolution podcast.)Today I want to discuss with you the many reasons I believe most New Years Resolutions fail and how you can rethink your own to set yourself up for better success. As moms, we convince ourselves that our goals aren't important or possible because there's not enough time for us. We overestimate what we should be able to accomplish in a month and underestimate what we could accomplish in a year. Instead of feeling discouraged, I want you to learn to be okay with stacking small wins over time and being in it for the long haul. What you're so afraid is going to TAKE AWAY from your kids is actually giving back to them in a way that is immeasurable. But we must be careful, because our kids are always watching us. We must be careful what they hear us say we're going to do. How many times have our children heard us say "I really need to ________" and not follow through? Don't let your kids grow up watching mom swear every January 1st that she's going to lose 30 pounds.  Don't let your kids grow up watching mom come home miserable from work, swearing she's going to find a job that's better suited for motherhood. Don't let your kids grow up watching mom put her dreams on the back burner year after year after year after year, all while telling them "you can be anything you set your mind to." Be what you set your mind to. You can do it, mama. But you HAVE to have a plan. You have to take action. & you can't give up this time. Support the showLet's connect on social media! The motherhood space can be so tough sometimes. We're not very great at admitting our moments of weakness and getting vulnerable with other moms. This can lead to feelings of shame, guilt, and failure when we have less-than-ideal days. I had a super hard day yesterday and wanted to open up with you all about it to remind you you're never alone and it doesn't make you a bad mom...even though in the moment I felt like the worst mom ever. When we have these moments, we have to begin to stop the thought process in its tracks and analyze where it comes from. Often, it's some deeply rooted comparison or unrealistic expectation we've created in our mind, likely from social media or other mamas that we believe "have it all together" when we just simply...well, we don't. And when you break down that thought pattern, you realize how much of a lie that is. You can love your children endlessly and still count down to bedtime some days. You can raise your voice, or utilize screen time, or break down in tears...and still be a good mom. And you ARE still a good mom. Because you were perfectly designed for this child, or these children. Everything in your life prepared you for this role and the exact mother they would need. No one is better suited for them than you. Each day is a fresh start, mama. Listen to this pep talk to remind you how you can learn to let go of those negative thought patterns, fill your own cup back up, and begin a new day with the next sunrise. It's okay to give yourself permission to have hard days. But just remember...you're doing an amazing job. Support the showLet's connect on social media! On this episode, she shares how anxiety impacts multiple facets of motherhood, how faith helped her understand her own anxiety, and how to overcome feelings of anxiety or worry. What I love most about Courtney's perspective on anxiety is that it's not something to be "fixed." As moms, we put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect and when we experience anxiety, we often interpret as a problem to solve. Those insanely high expectations you have for yourself to provide this picture perfect Christmas experience - from the gifts, to hiding the Elf each night, to the matching family pajamas, or the perfect Christmas card - are all created in our own heads and often result from unfair comparison. It's the most wonderful time of the year...for everyone except the ones that make the holiday magic happen. This episode is all about breaking your CURRENT holiday mindset to create a new one. One that serves you and your family much better. One that requires you to say "no" to some things. Because each time we say "no" to someone else, we get to say "yes" to ourselves and our family. Often, the areas we're so afraid to fall short on around the holidays aren't even things that make or break the experience of it all for our children. I bring this entire episode together by sharing four things to help you survive the holiday with less stress as a mom.
