Even for Christians, the temptation to sin remains an ever-present danger. Mortifying our sin is thus a battle we must earnestly wage, as John Owen wisely said, “Be killing sin, or it will be killing you!” But how do we engage this mortal enemy? The Apostle Paul gives four points of wisdom in Romans 8:13-14: First, stop paying the flesh, because you owe it nothing. Second, if you’re fighting sin, know that you’re dead to sin and alive to God. Third, do it by the Spirit—not by asceticism or personal discipline—but by the power of sanctifying grace. And if you do so, you will live! Killing sin doesn’t get you right with God; it shows that you are right with God because His justified people always bear fruit.

And speaking of making the best, let's talk about the towing company fiasco. Ever dealt with a tow company that's more of a headache than help? Yeah, us too. From outrageous fees to the runaround, it's a saga you won't believe. We also had a blast at the pool party, celebrated with some Sun Cruisers (Joe's lemon, anyone?), and got hilariously wine drunk. Shout out to the 1.5-liter bottles of wine—those things are trouble! Ever had a wine hangover? It's no joke. Picture bloodshot eyes, a pounding headache, and feeling like you're breathing fire. Yep, we've been there. On a lighter note, we're diving back into some fun with Plungeons and Dragons on Patreon. Even if you don't recognize Tim Kreider's name, there's a good chance you've read his work. In addition to his two collections of essays, We Learn Nothing and I Wrote This Book Because I Love You, he's published many short essays in the New York Times opinion section, nearly all of which seem to go viral. The first such essay was The Busy Trap, published more than 10 years ago, wherein he called out Americans' perpetual condition of being “crazy busy” as “a kind of existential reassurance, a hedge against emptiness; obviously, your life cannot possibly be silly or trivial or meaningless if you are so busy.” He's also famous for an essay about knowing people are talking about you behind your back, which Meghan has mentioned several times on the podcast and which has been immortalized in a famous meme. In this conversation, Tim shares his thoughts about writing about yourself, writing about other people, teaching writing to college students and (unrelatedly) getting stabbed.
