Sex can feel complicated when our parts get involved Patricia Rich introduces the concept of self-led sexuality — approaching sexuality from curiosity, compassion, and connection rather than fear or conditioning. She explains how understanding our internal “parts” can help individuals navigate conflicting desires, deepen consent, and create greater safety within themselves and their relationships. Explore the complexities of sexuality, emphasizing the importance of self-led sexuality and the integration of Internal Family Systems (IFS) in sexual therapy. The conversation also examines the broader cultural forces that influence sexuality, including capitalism, gender expectations, and the silence many therapists themselves experience around sexual topics. Grounded in both clinical insight and humanity, this episode offers a refreshing framework for understanding sexuality as a space for healing, embodiment, and authentic connection. “Listening to our desires doesn’t mean we have to act on them all. The superintendent isn't a budget manager, they're the chief advocate for all children. Dr. Michael J. Barnes rebuilt Mayfield City Schools around this principle, and the results speak for themselves. The superintendent is the chief advocate for all children in their community. Nobody else can say that, not the mayor, not the school board, not the superintendent of the next district over. But somewhere along the way, superintendents drifted from the instructional chair into operations and politics. Dr. Michael J. Barnes reversed that drift entirely. At Mayfield City Schools (Ohio), Barnes built a four-track personalized learning model that blew up the time/learning equation. Traditional, Cross-Curricular, Self-Paced, and The Option. When students got agency over their learning design, attendance skyrocketed, not because of better discipline policies, but because students were actually designing their own learning. Time stopped being the constant. Learning became it.In this conversation with Dr. Conner, Barnes walks the AC-Stage reframe: what does instructional leadership look like when the industrial model is obsolete? What's the role of the superintendent in an Innovation Core? Why do design thinking, engineering, and entrepreneurship matter as much as math? How do you navigate the VUCA landscape of state politics without abandoning your moral imperative? What You'll LearnThe superintendent's real job: chief advocate for all childrenHow to flip the time/learning variable, when learning is constant, time becomes flexibleThe four-track personalized learning model and why student agency drives attendanceWhy instructional leadership means staying in the learning chair, not the politics chairThe Creative Staircase framework for systemic innovationHow to navigate the VUCA landscape in state politics without compromising your visionThis conversation is essential for any superintendent or central office leader in the AC-Stage of education. Dr. Conner and Dr. Barnes dig into the frameworks that move the dial from excellence as an aspiration to excellence as a system. And on that note, onward and upward.

Instead of treating fast finishers as a problem, I reframe pacing differences as one of the biggest benefits of blended learning and self-paced environments. I walk through six practical strategies you can use to keep students meaningfully engaged without defaulting to extra work or busywork. From Must Do, May Do, and Aspire to Do to peer tutoring and brain break options, these approaches help you design for flexibility, student agency, and better classroom flow. Some feelings can't be said – but they can be sung Ann Koplow shares her journey as a therapist and musician, discussing the healing power of music, her experiences with a rare heart condition, and the importance of authenticity in therapy. She emphasizes the role of shamelessness in creative expression and how songwriting serves as a therapeutic tool for both herself and her clients. The conversation explores the impact of music on mental health, the creation of community through shared experiences, and the necessity of letting go of shame to embrace one’s true self. “Every day is a gift. Let go of your shame. Be your authentic self.” – Ann Koplow, LCSW, CGP About our Guest – Ann Koplow, LCSW, CGP Ann Koplow is a clinical social worker, certified group therapist, and singer-songwriter who uses psychotherapy and music to help people grow and connect. She facilitates six open-access “Coping and Healing” groups a week at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and is a past president of the Northeastern Society for Group Psychotherapy. She has yet to publish any articles or books about her innovative model for group therapy because she's better at short-form creations like songs, including “Triggers,” “Everybody's Somebody's Asshole,” “Catastrophizing,” “Other People's Anger,” “Don't Kill Yourself,” and her protest song “You Don't Scare Me!” When she shares her songs in her groups, the members appreciate her relatable and accepting messages like “I Left the House Before I Felt Ready” and “It's Hard to Get Sh*t Done When You're Scared Sh*tless.” Her patients express concern that she will get too famous and leave the groups behind, but that's just not going to happen. What does science actually say about monogamy, desire, and long-term love? Evolutionary biologist Dr. Justin Garcia joins co-host Sue Marriott to deepen our understanding of the myths and realities of modern relationships. From monogamy to consensual non-monogamy, we explore how jealousy and trust function – not as flaws – but as deeply human signals shaped by biology and attachment. Dr. Garcia breaks down how relationships shift over time, especially as we age, and why sexual satisfaction isn't just about frequency – it's about novelty, meaning, and connection. We dive into the neuroscience of intimacy, including the roles of dopamine and oxytocin, and revisit the Kinsey scale to better understand the fluidity of sexual orientation. This conversation is a grounded, nuanced look at how passion evolves, and how couples can intentionally cultivate desire, curiosity, and emotional safety over the long haul. “Humans, the most intimate animal, will always live and die for love. What are we to make of Donald Trump's recent statements on abortion? Are pro-life Americans winning or losing the battle to protect the rights of unborn children? What is the way forward? This week, author of 'The Case for Life' and leading pro-life expert, Scott Klusendorf, joins Frank to analyze and unpack former president Trump's statements regarding abortion and why it has created concern among pro-life advocates. During the episode, Frank and Scott will answer questions like: Why has the pro-life movement consistently lost the vote of the American public and what can pro-lifers do to win the upcoming referendums? What underlying issues may be motivating Trump to not seek a ban on abortion? Is he really pro-life? Is the “will of the people” our standard? What should pro-life politicians say? How can they avoid tripping over the "what about" arguments against abortion? What about race and incest? Why do pro-abortion people falsely claim that women who suffer miscarriages or require surgery for ectopic pregnancies be jailed if abortion is outlawed in certain states? Is the pro-life view inherently religious? Are we trying to establish a theocracy?   Later in the episode, Frank and Scott will examine the concept of incrementalism and how it was used historically to fight slavery in the West. This eye-opening conversation will equip you to defend the sanctity of life as Scott exposes some of the weaknesses in the popular "pro-choice" arguments and explains some of the nuances and strategies needed to push the pro-life agenda forward politically.
