Welcome back, my spookies! Tonight, we delve into the bone-chilling universe of Weekly Spooky, expertly crafted by the eerie voice of your host and narrator, Henrique Couto. As we journey into the sixth year of this phenomenal podcast, we pause to reminisce about the thrilling horror tales unearthed during the prior year, 2024, showcasing a rich harvest of storytelling from new and familiar authors alike. In the episode, we commence with an enticing narrative titled "Terror on Your Radio Dial" by Bruce Haney, where we meet 12-year-old Josh, a boy whose fascination with the supernatural transports him from the mundane existence of Boring, Oregon, into the hair-raising legends slumbering in the infamous Gitter House. Fueled by the need to encounter a ghost, Josh embarks on a spine-tingling adventure with his new friend Mike, who possesses his own secrets of the spirit world. As the boys initiate an electrifying sleepover filled with horror movies and ghost lore, chilling events unfold that compel them to connect with the spectral world in terrifyingly unexpected ways. But that's just the opening act! The episode plunges deeper into horror with tales like "Catching a Buzz" by David O'Hanlon, where the innocent excitement of Halloween transforms into a night of peril for two brothers, Grover and Will, as they engage in a reckless challenge imposed by their babysitter. In exploring the depths of temptation, they unwittingly delve into an experience rife with consequences of their actions, revealing the darker side of childhood curiosity and the sinister underbelly of online challenges that resonate with our current society.Next, we navigate the haunting narrative of "The Last Vacation" by Mike Ashkewey, where family dynamics clash against a backdrop of a horrifying apocalyptic threat during a seemingly idyllic cruise. Our protagonist, just off the cusp of adulthood, grapples with the fragile state of their family while confronting extraordinary changes unfolding onboard. As chaos erupts and the world outside collapses, tension mounts and alliances shift, leading to a thrilling blend of action and horror that leaves listeners teetering on the edge of their seats. Finally, we encounter “My Patient Destroyed My World” by Michael Kelso, delving into the psyche of a doctor grappling with the aftermath of his patient's heinous acts. Through the lens of horror, we explore themes of morality, impulsive behavior, and the thin lines that separate sanity from madness, weaving a tale that is equal parts psychological thriller and poignant reflection on human nature.Henrique skillfully stitches these narratives together, inviting listeners to reflect on their fears and the inherent darkness that lingers within humanity itself. From ghostly encounters that chill the bones to the raw terror of psychological dread, this episode encapsulates the essence of what makes Weekly Spooky a frightfully delightful experience. As the show winds down, Henrique encourages listeners to subscribe, explore the extensive back catalog, and stay tuned for upcoming special episodes, including one themed for Valentine's Day that promises to entwine love with horror in the most enthralling way. So, kick back, embrace the eerie ambiance, and prepare for a delightfully frightful ride through the sinister shadows of storytelling at its finest. Until next time, my spookies!

In this episode, we're delving into the haunted heart of Pennsylvania, a state rich with historical significance and eerie tales. From the bloody fields of Gettysburg to the dark corners of notorious prisons, Pennsylvania's haunted locations offer a chilling glimpse into its past. Known as the Keystone State, it has seen everything from battles to industrial booms, leaving behind restless spirits and paranormal mysteries. We'll be uncovering ten of the most haunted places across the state, each with its own tragic history and ghostly encounters. Whether it's the eerie echoes of Civil War soldiers or the lingering presence of old inmates, these locations are bound to send shivers down your spine. Featured Locations: Gettysburg Battlefield 1195 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg, PA 17325 Beyond the well-documented hauntings, there are countless reports of strange mists and shadowy figures at Little Round Top and the Wheatfield, where some of the bloodiest fighting occurred. Phantom cannon fire and the scent of gunpowder are still experienced by many visitors to this day. Hotel Bethlehem 437 Main St, Bethlehem, PA 18018 In addition to the ghostly presence of May Yohe, guests in Room 932 often hear the sound of a typewriter clacking late at night—perhaps the spirit of a former writer staying at the hotel. The grand staircase is also known for mysterious cold spots and the sound of phantom footsteps echoing through the halls. Eastern State Penitentiary 2027 Fairmount Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19130 Visitors often feel an overwhelming sense of dread near Al Capone's cell, where he reportedly saw visions of his old enemies. The most unsettling part of the prison is Death Row, where disembodied voices call out names, and cell doors slam shut on their own. The Old Jail Museum 128 W Broadway, Jim Thorpe, PA 18229 In addition to Alexander Campbell's famous handprint, there have been numerous sightings of shadowy figures moving between cells, and many visitors report hearing eerie whispers in the basement dungeon, where solitary prisoners once suffered in silence. Fort Mifflin 6400 Hog Island Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19153 Beyond the Screaming Woman, visitors have encountered the spirit of a Revolutionary War soldier walking the perimeter of the fort. The sound of invisible footsteps pacing the gunpowder magazine is a frequent occurrence for paranormal investigators. The Farnsworth House Inn 401 Baltimore St, Gettysburg, PA 17325 Guests have reported hearing heavy breathing and the sound of gunfire coming from the attic, where Confederate soldiers once took aim during the battle. In the Sweeney Room, guests often wake to the sensation of a cold hand touching their arm in the middle of the night. Pennhurst Asylum 100 Commonwealth Dr, Spring City, PA 19475 The Quaker Building is notorious for sightings of a ghostly nurse, while visitors to the tunnels beneath the asylum have reported hearing the cries of former patients who suffered in isolation. Many leave feeling an intense sense of sadness and despair. The Harmony Inn 230 Mercer St, Harmony, PA 16037 One of the most active rooms is on the third floor, where guests frequently hear the sound of a rocking chair moving by itself and faint voices singing old hymns. Staff have also experienced objects moving mysteriously in the dining room late at night. Jean Bonnet Tavern 6048 Lincoln Hwy, Bedford, PA 15522 In addition to the man seen near the bar, guests often feel a chilling breeze in the upstairs bedrooms, where several travelers passed away over the centuries. Some have even seen ghostly figures sitting at the tables in the main dining hall after closing time. The Logan Inn 10 W Ferry St, New Hope, PA 18938 Beyond the Revolutionary War soldier, there are frequent reports of children laughing in the halls, and guests in Room 6 often wake to the sight of a woman dressed in colonial attire standing by the window, looking out as if waiting for someone to return. Rocky Elmore became a border patrol agent along the US/Mexico border and one of the places he had to patrol was Otay Mountain. This was a sacred mountain to the native Americans. They believed that human beings should not go on Otay Mountain, and they never did. However, the border patrol agents had to go up the cliffs there because it was a place that smugglers often took parties of wannabe border jumpers to cross the border. Elmore told a frightening story about what happened to another border patrol agent named Luis Santiago who originally hailed from Puerto Rico. You can find his story in his book Out on Foot: Nightly Patrols and Ghostly Tales of a US Border Patrol Agent.
