Timestamps (10:37) - Napa Halloween Murders Start Napa - California - On Halloween in 2004, three roommates, Leslie Ann Mazzara, Lauren Meanza and Adriane Insogna, spent the evening handing out specially prepared treat bags to the children in their neighborhood. Hours after the women went to bed, Lauren was awakened by the sounds of screaming and breaking glass. As she headed up the stairs to investigate, she heard footsteps coming towards her. She fled the home and called 911 from her vehicle. Leslie and Adriane would be found brutally murdered in an upstairs bedroom. The pool of blood at the scene was said to be inches deep. An investigation would later determine that an acquaintance of the women, Eric Copple, was responsible for their deaths. Eric was the partner of a friend of the girls. No motive for the murders has ever been confirmed, besides Eric's possible jealousy over the friendship. Despite this case happening twenty years ago, it has recently been discussed again due to the similarities between it and the Moscow Murders. In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the 2004 Halloween murders in Napa, California. A false smear about Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio killing pets made its way from a fourth-hand Facebook rumor to Donald Trump's lips during his televised debate with Kamala Harris. Despite the fact that there is no evidence for this claim and local authorities have explicitly denied that it's true, Republicans have enthusiastically promoted the libel in order to demonize Haitians who are legally living and working in the town. This promotion includes AI generated images of anthropomorphic cats in tactical gear. We discuss how this false claim spread, the background of recent anti-immigrant sentiment in JD Vance's home state, a historical example of how American anti-immigrant conspiracy theories inspired deadly violence, and how the current smears are leading to innocent people being threatened right now. Great interview view with Best Selling Author Leslie Ann Lee on writing books techniques, strategies of writing, health, family, AI, and more! Listen in. Bio: I have been writing since I was 6. I have vivid memories of sitting on the couch in our tiny living room in Fremont, CA. and my mother reading me Charlotte's Web and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Even as a little girl, I wanted to write. I wrote my first story in the second grade, published my first book as a senior in high school, and received my first award as a sophomore in college. If there was a way to write, I would find it. I wrote in journals and on the back of science worksheets in biology. I typed on my parents ' computer- designing the cover of my stories with worn-down crayons and dried-up markers. Writing often was my escape, my way of fleeing from being teased and bullied or scared of what real life brought me. It was my way of expressing pain and love without coming out and saying, "I am hurt," or "I am in love." It was a way to call out corruption and abuse in a way that honored the victims. My writing has refined itself over the years, but there still is passion, imagination and sass sprinkled across my pages. While some choose to face the world with bleak surrender, I choose to believe that there is still magic in the imagination, and live in a place where anything is possible... if we just hope. Elon Musk walked into Twitter HQ carrying a sink. I thought it was symbolic that he's throwing the kitchen sink at Twitter but he tweeted to let it all "sink in" that he owns it. The left is going ballistic. We have stunning news on 28 house races and how polling has moved in the past month. Kansas District 3 between Adkins and Davids is the outlier and I may lose my cool over this. We've already heard there are 240,000 ballots mailed out in Pennsylvania that are not verified with a social security number or drivers license. Now the Secretary of State is making outrageous statements about holding back results. You gotta hear this. HOF golfer Tom Watson and his new wife Leslie Ann have announced they are divorcing after three months. I'm not critical of such decisions people make and truly just want folks to be happy. But the comments she released in a statement are bizarre at best. A player from the Chiefs Super Bowl LIV team is selling his ring online... we have the deets. And KU announced a 10 year plan for basketball, football and baseball facility upgrades which sounds awesome. Then they went too far and gave out way too much information and it's a buzzkill.
