All of us started out in the oilpatch with PIPE DREAMS and aspirations of what this lifestyle can bring. At one time the most viable industry in our country. Downturns and recessions have allowed us as MEN to hide and sedate from the REAL problems. I personally did not look at the FACTS and address…
You only have so much time out of your working hours so how do you maximize that. The power of intention is where a lot of this starts. Whether you are in the place of using your job as a tool as a way to raise in the ranks or develop the skills you need to do your thing and start your own business or work close to home it all starts with Intention. Being mindful of why you want something directly dictates how you show up and how others around take and feed off your energy. Shawn and I give a few tools we use to be to use the power of intent in your daily lives to help make better decisions and take action when opportunities present themselves. Use that precious time wisely and you have no idea what you can accomplish. Sit back and relax and listen today's Tale From the Trench.
Shawn and I have had many years and many struggles working away as we have discussed on previous shows and today we wanted to talk about perseverance and how you keep showing up for you and your family when you have only so much time in a day and only so many things you want to accomplish. We discuss some tools we use and especially when you are wanting to make a decision to either grow another business inside or outside of the oilfield and we always take into account that your family is your business. When we get pushed off track and so many outside distractions pulling us one way or another and combine that with the emotions of working away, who do you turn to and how do you stay focused. This is what we dive into today and please listen to Today's Tale From the Trench. As always please share with someone you think can benefit from this and we are always here for a conversation.
At work there is only so many places to hide when things are piling up at home, work stress and in all honesty, just life in general these days. Shawn and I discuss some the tools we use to help combat this as I was triggered this week by my ex wife and thought a good time to talk about these issues as we have something we are dealing with. I talk about when I did not have the tools and shoved all this shit into my big toe, as I describe it, when my wife left me and how detrimental it was by pretending things were all fine. You work away long enough it changes you and having people in your circle to call you on your stuff and help to talk about the struggles and the trickies that come up when you are hundreds if not thousands of miles away from home. Sit back and listen to today's TALE FROM THE TRENCH. Be sure to share to someone that may receive some value from this topic and others we bring up on the show if you see any value from it.
We all have things that come up on an a daily or minute by minute basis and it is up to us to determine what that cost is and if it is worth pursuing or not. When we only have so much time, especially working on the road, there are is a decision that needs to be made. When you make that decision to do something or not there is a cost to that, either by costing money or time or even costing you if you choose not to do something such as learning a skill. Every time you choose not to invest in yourself it is costing you money by not learning and then implementing those skills or strategies. That decision making process is something that a lot of people get stuck on and do not end up doing anything. When you get to the end of your life and all of these little decisions that you did not take action stack up on and you look at the version of yourself that you could have been you will wish you took action on some of these things, invested in more things that serve you and said no to those that don't. Shawn and I discuss how we both chose to take the leap into bettering ourselves and the tools we use to help make these decisions. Sit back and relax and listen to today's Tale From the Trench.
We are really good as Blue Collar workers to hold ourselves accountable when it comes to other people and the company's we work for. Where we are not really good is holding ourselves accountable for the things we want and giving ourselves the respect we deserve by doing the things we say we want for ourselves. Shawn asks me today about the tools I learned coming out of rehab and tools I learned from men's coaching groups I have been in order to implement and consistently show up for myself. The first thing that usually goes while working on the road is your Fitness then Fulfillment which then affects your Family and as a lot of us know in the Oilfield is then your Finances when your relationships finally fails. This cycle happens over and over and over then we just give up. Having accountability through the networks outside of our friends of family is needed in order to push ourselves as the people around you, for the most part, do not want you to grow as they know for the man you are today and if you change they lose that person that keeps them comfortable and usually has nothing to do with you. Put yourself first to then be able to give to others. Absolutely one of the reasons we do this podcast to share our experiences for you guys and also why I have launched the One More Boom Project to help guys be accountable and take their lives to the next level. If you ever would like to see what working with me is like you can always book a call here but in the meantime please enjoy another Tale From the Trench! Our only price of admission is if you get value from this and think it could help someone else navigating the Oilfield then please share and we appreciate you for listening.
With Shawn getting back from the middle east away for work we thought it would be a great conversation for us to dive deep into the struggles a lot of face feeling like a stranger in our own homes when coming home after a long hitch. The rest of the family goes on with building their lives while when we are home we tend to just get into the way and all of those external relationships we are not part of as well. Nick talks about some examples as well of coming home unexpectedly only to sleep in and still wake up to an empty home when the family had previous commitments. These struggles are not unique only to our industry but those that do this type of work in the Oilfield definitely need to be aware that not only do we not feel part of our homes, our families are dealing with the same thing on their side. Learning to have some tools and open discussions with our partners and our kids is something most of us were never taught and Shawn and Nick go in depth on what has worked and what has not worked for us for you to learn from. Listen to today's TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Rehab was a wonderful tool but after rehab how does one input those tools into real life especially with divorce and inflation rates skyrocketing the past few years today's show is more relevant than ever. Taking a long hard look at the actual results of Nick's life and taking accountability for being so disconnected from life is another level most do not want to look at and even harder to input new habits and behaviours in a world that has been created by the old habits and behaviours. In today's episode we dive deeper into the habits and activities that have allowed Nick to move forward with divorce and other life changes caused by becoming disconnected from life while being on the road his entire life. With Shawn back from his assignment from the desert in Saudi Arabia we dive into the habits and actions that Nick performs daily in.... Fitness Fulfillment Family Finances that have allowed him to remain consistent and gain traction amongst so much chaos once his wife left and has not made life easy in the least since that decision of her to leave over 5 years ago. If being a one dimensional person is what you turned into as well or have been on the road and feel disconnected from life I encourage you to have a listen to today's TALES FROM THE TRENCH.
Life on the road had makes a lot of us numb and disconnected. Through the decision of going to rehab and choices that Nick made after dealing with the fact he was was not in a good place after his wife left, it was taking a good look at the FACTS when things started to become clear that Nick was not in the place he wanted to be and was not even himself anymore. Through this conversation with, Shawn, pulls some lessons and some tools that anyone can use and the biggest was having a vision on where you want to go and it is way easier to not being pulled off track when life throws us curveballs and it always does. This is where the idea of Making your Pipe Dreams a Reality came to be. We all have these thoughts of what we want our lives to be and why we want the money we want but most of do not ever take the plunge to make that happen. Sit down and listen to Today's Tale From the Trench.
After a hiatus, we are ready to relaunch the Pipe Dream Podcast and with a brand new Co-host in Shawn Miller. We are looking to expose the mental health and resilience tools that can be used when looking at the FACTS of our lives and a little glimpse into my time in Rehab in Thailand. I have shared this before but now with Shawn at the helm, you may get a whole new perspective. The oilfield brings so many benefits but when we ignore the FACTS and live one dimensional and chase the dollar all hell can break loose. Hopefully you can take some of these tools and implement them into your own lives and reach out anytime to either of us to have a chat about our experiences and we will be more than happy to hear where you are at. Listen to today's tale from the TRENCH.
Everyone can get triggered, especially when my clients trigger something in me by me seeing something in them that I an acting or reacting like. Here is a message to them which you may benefit from. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Denise Ritenburgh....what can I say?? Oil & Gas Material Manager/Expediter is what she does for a living but she is so much more. She is a mother who found the Oilfield after building roads all over the United States and fell in love with it and has never looked back. Moving around the country, being a mother and respected in the industry has not come with challenges and tribulations. We discuss a lot of them in this episode and get to know this amazing women just a little bit better. Even though things have not always went the way she has thought, she is one positive lady with a zest for life that is very inspiring. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Do you have a partner who never does what they say will do? When this happens, do you start to not trust them? This problem comes up in my coaching clients or has I should say and I can see it in people that talk to me about some of their struggles in their lives. What can you do about this? Do the work and do what you say. Instead of going after every shiny thing and talk about or start a business and move directly to the next thing doesn't work out for everyone. If you say you are going to do that renovation, do the damn renovation, when you say you are going to start a business, start the damn business and go ALL IN. Your partner will eventually quit trusting you and just start doing these things themselves which will start causing a lot of frustration and resentment. If you want a stronger relationship and if you want your partner to trust you, start doing what you say you are going to do.
Rhonda Sawchuk has been in the Pipeline Industry all of her adult life but it was something that her father never wanted for her and myself having a daughter, I often think about it too as much as I love this industry. The amazing part of her journey though is that Rhonda has endured some amazing experiences to get to where she is in her career and what has come out of her love of her people being a safety professional for many, many years is the fact she is now venturing into teaching men and women to navigate this lifestyle of the oilfield armed with the tools to deal with being away from our loved ones for months on end. You can tell from how she talks she is so passionate about workers going home not just with all their fingers and toes but on top of that going home with purpose to their loved ones as well. With Rhonda's real life experiences and love for her father, I am so grateful for this interview and is a great listen for anyone in the Oilfield or Trades industry to have a listen. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
A discussion with Aurora Eggert on her show The Borealis Experience about a very sensitive subject, Men and Women and how it relates to all things relationships. This topic is something most people refuse to discuss to touch on but we dive right in and was such an amazing conversation which I highly recommend you listen to. Aurora and I have very similar views so that goes to show that men and women can have meaningful talk when we as sexes actually talk. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Derrick Clark is in Outside sales in Midland, Texas. Started into the oilfield like most of us to be able to make some extra cash and fell in love with it. The deals that were made, How exciting it was to be involved in the rapid pace of the industry. The interview started off pretty standard talking about his position and what he did for his company and then the interview shifted like a lot of mine often do when we start talking about the lifestyle and how it affects the home life. Now he is newly married but his wife comes from an oilfield family. This was such a fun interview when we were able to dive deeper into how this lifestyle and being on the phone all of the time, often when we make EXCUSES when we say are WORKING. Super tough to do as we all know when your next contact you make could mean bank. Derrick has a great insight into the world of the Permian Basin and it was such a fun interview to have. Dawn McShinsky has been a lot of things in her life. She's also carried a lot of titles and is still pushing to get what she wants in the pursuit of living a fulfilled life. From ski racing in the XGames, fire fighting, EMT, Geologist, to Landman, aspiring Wildcatter in Texas and still is not done. Dawn decided the moment she was introduced to the Oil Patch and drilling that was where her heart is and has been her passion ever since. Her entire career could have been for nothing if she didn't make the decision to get sober. What she ended up finding in that journey that so many others in her position were dealing with many of the same issues she was. What makes this conversation so unique is another amazing woman who defied all odds many many times and has come on top every time. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH. While visiting mom and dad on the weekend for my birthday, mom wanted to show me a story that she recorded on the TV. This story started out with a heavy heart of a teenager who tried to jump off a bridge was saved by a man in a BROWN JACKET. What triggered me during this story was not the fact this kid kid tried to commit suicide during an anniversary when I wanted to end it all for reasons I won't get into here but what triggered me was the message at the end of the program of when both people involved were asked what their takeaway from this experience, both of them said it gives them HOPE IN LIFE. HOPE, their message/takeaway was fucking hope!! Are you kidding me? Everyone needs positivity in their life, don't get me wrong. But to have a message to have HOPE THAT SOMEONE IS GOING TO SAVE YOU, is absolutely ridiculous. You need to take accountability for your results, your feelings and be around people that will support you in a positive way. That's it. Not to take away from the reality of depression but from what I have found in this my own experiences once you find alignment in your own values and start creating small wins on a daily basis, moving forward towards your 90 day targets is where you can start gaining traction and depression becomes a thing of the past. Tiffany VonOrff is one driven individual who, with a partner, is building a safe place for women to learn about welding and learn from other women before them, how to deal with the struggles of being a minority in a male dominated trade. I also had the opportunity to dive into what makes her tick and even got her to open up what it was like to leave her babies at home to pursue her dream while she welded all over the US. She does not usually talk about herself, so I am very grateful to be able to have her be REAL AND RAW with me and the listeners are the ones who get to benefit. We also discuss how she took the welding shop which she went from shop hand to owner in a very short time. I love being able to showcase such amazing talent, so please.enjoy this week's show. Being home most likely for spring breakup and I have a lot of mixed emotions. There is no more money going to be put in the bank account...only withdrawn. There is mixed feelings about sitting around all week hoping to see my kids because they live with their mom while going through a separation and impending divorce. Before I quit drinking almost 2 years ago, this would be the time to catch up with the boys, find time to unwind in the garage. What happens though when breakup goes 1-8 months and you are now finding excuses to drink and waste the day away over and over? What happens when the money you relied on to get you through a month or 2 and buy a bunch of shiny things only to not get a job for 1-8months when projects that were supposed to start get delayed or deferred? What happens when you are not used to be home though and your partner and you are not used to being together for a night, let alone months a time? I believe we have all been there who live this isolated lifestyle and how do you deal with the guilt, the shame, the anger, the frustration? This is the discussion of SPRING BREAKUP. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
In a world that seems to thousand tear us in many directions all at once, how the hell are you supposed to be at your best? How are you supposed to make good decisions, be present, feel on fire when everyone wants a piece of you? You EAT FIRST!!! Your BEING, your FULFILLMENT, your HAPPINESS, that is what comes first above all else. You have been conditioned to see this as selfish... It is nothing but. If communicated the right way it can make a relationship bulletproof. If your partner knows why are investing in yourself, why you need to go golfing/fishing/on a motorcycle ride and you put in the deposits in the relationship beforehand you can create something so amazing. Do not do those things for yourself and you will not have the capacity to be the partner/father that is able to give to their families. This is where anger, frustration, rage coming from. Deep down you want to be able to tell your partner how you feel but you do not know how to communicate and love comes out as anger. I am able to operate at a high level NOW, only because I am aware of my own happiness and fulfillment first, then I can pour into others and you can do it too! Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
I put out a question to both both men and women of FB last week about what's your beef with the opposite sex and the answers were varying to say the least. Luke Spicer, being an advocate of the show and after his divorce and his new relationship with his fiancé has a lot to say on this subject and was triggered by some of the answers that were given. This was a very great conversation and what we have come up with is MEN have to step up and do better and both men and women need to learn what actual communication is. Everyone talks about communication but few actually know what that entails.... It entails VULNERABILITY... It entails HONESTY... It entails LEAVING YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR AND ACTUALLY LISTENTING. So this conversation was very stimulating and highly recommend for anyone in a relationship or wants to actually be in a healthy relationship in the future. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Valentines Day, during an outage, I decided to buy the crew some donuts and I chose to eat one too. That one donut turned out to not be one donut and I ate another one later that day as well as the next day. It did not stop there though as I ate like shit all throughout the outage, didn't do dishes, laundry or cleaned up around the place I'm renting for this project. So my realization was coming home and seeing a disaster the day the gas was turned on after the work for the outage was completed and this all started with one donut but I allowed it. So my question to you is a donut just a donut? It would have been way easier to do one small thing in each of those areas each day so when I finally couldn't tolerate the chaos anymore, actually doing something about. This is the reason I teach men and women to set quarterly targets and how to plan their week properly to be able to recognize and address when you are drifting before it's too late. Now did I drift, yes....was I exhausted...yes...would I have exhausted either way if I cleaned up and cooked a little each day...absolutely! Where in your life are you choosing a level of tolerance that you do not like. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
During a long plant upgrade project in Southern Alberta, after a long 9 months in the same spot, I had an altercation with a Superintendent for the company that was taking care of the deficiencies at the tale end of this project. I absolutely thought this guy was attacking my abilities as a welder and I attacked back. What I failed to realize is we just had a new baby, moved into a bigger new house recently, my welder blew up on this project, I was drunk almost every night while deciding to stay near the project even though I could have traveled home every night. In short, I went off on this Superintendent because I was pissed off and out of alignment with myself. How many times have you went off on someone when you think they were attacking you but looking back, it had nothing to do with them? Being like this and taking things out on people just seems like an easy thing to do but this absolutely held me back in a lot of ways.... career.... relationships. Recognizing where you are being triggered in your own life would be your biggest benefit in life. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
BLIND SPOTS.... We all got em. Working on a lease fabing out some pipe spools to tie in a plastic pipeline, the inspector came to check on me around noon. When he saw what I had welded to that moment... He was not impressed and complained to my boss, I found out after getting back out to cell service at the end of the day. What he did not see was what I had prepped and tacked up sitting behind the truck. This inspector was pretty much hammered at lunch at the same time this happened and could not be bothered to look around at what was actually going on onsite. Do you do the same thing in your own life, Take things at face value looking at it from your own distorted lense? Do you refuse to look at your BLIND SPOTS? This is what the guys in my coaching program are looking at on a daily basis with the help of myself and the other brothers in the group. TOTAL ACCOUNTABILITY CREATES A NEW SET OF PROBLEMS YOU MUST NAVIGATE... but I would way rather have those problems of GROWTH and not living in denial of what my own blind spots created in my life for other problems that did not serve me when my wife left our marriage. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Most of we know is how to GRIND. After coming off of night shift for days off, I noticed right away, my kids did not care that I was tired. Their lives do not change if I am tired but only if I allowed it. See I just worked 12 nights and picked the kids up at their mom's the next day. All I wanted to do was sleep but there was no time for that when I only have 2 and half days with the kids before returning to work. How does one manage that and be present with the kids with all of that going on and want to make great memories for the short time I am with them? One way I do that is by meditation. Yeah....I said meditation. In that space I am able to regulate. To see things for what they are. See instead of getting short with the kids or angry because of I am tired, I am able to see what is truly important. Being raised in a locker room, I felt I was never able to think this and see life what it was for. For one, no one showed me how....and 2....no one gave me permission. My kids get all of me and have me present on days off. To learn how that is done and why it is important.... Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
My synopsis after the completion of a 2 week Pre-Training of my current coaching group embarking on their first Quarter experience in what I call the Apprenticeship Arena. These men started for various reasons and come from different construction backgrounds. Their reasons are personal to them and won't be shared but what I will share is what the common themes were. When the one of the first clients video mission was posted in a private FB group of vulnerability of WHO HE WAS, I shortly after received a message of NO WAY AM I GOING TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT!! Needless to say, this client completed the assignment once he realized that watching another man be VULNERABLE, it gave himself permission to be vulnerable. Something that he never thought was possible. This set the tone for the rest of the Pre-Training which at the end created a massive transformation in the Men which is only going to compound in the next 90 days. Seeing men shed their MASKS and being REAL and RAW is what lights me on fire. This podcast started when an Inspector friend of mine took his own life. In his honor, I vow to keep going since I get as much out of this as the Men who step into the Arena. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
My current coaching client and my Mentor did a podcast not too long ago about the process and where my client came from. I thought it was an absolutely amazing interview and figured my listeners would like to hear this. Where this client has come from and where he is going is so amazing to watch and hearing his journey from his lens still inspires me to keep pushing him to let go of the old stories he has and to be honest, helps me let go of mine of separation and divorce. He was a project manager in Calgary and is now a self employed contractor going through the struggles of being a single dad now with 2 kids while dealing with the 6" of real estate between his ears and learning to take the POWER back that he has given away to this world while learning to THRIVE and not only survive. His story has touched me on many levels more than once and it is so inspiring to see him talk about the struggles from being a tradesman to PM while being a dad and husband is something more than 1 of us can relate to. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
There is an epidemic on Tik Tok and other social media platforms of MEN reaching out for help. Help for not having their kids during legal battles. Help for going through a divorce. Help for losing their job or a project being delayed and living one missed paycheck away from losing it all. As much as I respect these Men for reaching out, I am noticing a trend. The trend I am noticing is there is no action when they do get advice or when they start getting what they want, they revert back to the same patterns and behaviors that got them to the same place they started when they reached out in the first place. HAVING IT ALL brings forward a ton of of other problems but when you get what you are wanting, you best have clarity on why you are doing what you are doing and why you want what you want. Sit back and relax and LISTEN TO TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
After recently being fired by Sirius XM, Jason Ellis, tells me how how this is definitely NOT his lowest point. From where he came from in Australia to millions of dollars to losing that revenue in a moment, the man knows how to PIVOT and I am personally excited to see this comeback! Ellis has his podcast, The Jason Ellis Show, now launched by the time this with airs with sponsors and is already back on track to the way to the top and doing it on his terms. Listening to Ellis so many years ago when I first rigged up my first welding truck in 2004 when he started his show on XM soon after I started my own company. His humor and demeanour got me through hours and hours of working away combined with miles and miles driving to and from work. Such an honor for the LEGEND to connect for this interview and I will be forever grateful. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY’S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to not know if you would live or die OR LOOSE A LIMB? Carrie Creed has spent more days than she can count in that space and decided she had a choice. Due to an extraordinarily complex medical issues in her first semester of college she had to make the choice, to let the disease WIN or choose to be grateful for the disease and create her own REALITY where she chose to mentally beat the disease and it eventually became that reality. 130 days of bed rest in her lifetime was not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination. Just like we choose to work away from home, Carrie made the choice to step into the PAIN VOLUNTARILY a second time when she got pregnant with her second child knowing the high probability of complications killing her and it almost did. Just like the PAIN most men in this society HIDE FROM SEDATION, Carrie hid the fact she was so overly positive until her breakdown of PTSD when she finally allowed those suppressed feelings to the surface. Going from Retail to Survey Party Chief to Independent Artist Consultant has been the path of Jesse Curtis. All he knew was he felt the need to make more money when he was offered a starting position as rod man on a pipeline and took it. During that time he got a girlfriend and worked all over the country. Now in my experience, Surveyors can be a crazy bunch and it seems that Jesse was able to manage his 6 years very well and had a plan to save his money and executed his exit strategy well. We discuss some stories about being on the line and how he was able to use the RESILIENCY skills he learned working all over the U.S., pipelining, to be able to launch his own company now to help starving ARTISTS reach their full potential in the entertainment industry. He teaches them how shift their mindset, give them the tools to market themselves in a digital world and learn to thrive. You would think these kind of Doctors would only want you in and out after they deal with the physical problems his patients come in with but the reason Dr. Lance wanted to come on the podcast was to show a lot of the issues that come with the body come from something psychological aspect and affects everyone in the household. His passion is helping these families in all aspects of their life when they are in his office and wanted to discuss those affects. Choosing to hide behind drugs, alcohol, pain-killers is hurting everyone and it is time we all take ACCOUNTABILITY for the good and the bad that comes from living this way. This interview was probably one of the RAWEST interviews where both of us started to tear up when talking about people who have taken their own life trying to navigate this on their own. Sean Flottman has been in the fabrication industry as a welder for 20 years. He has seen so many changes in his career and has had to adapt. Everything from the welding processes he has chosen to learn, to the changes in his life after his choice to get sober 5 years ago. To keep his hands busy, he up'd his game in his backyard METAL ART to find a way to connect with his daughter more. His side hustle could very well be his main hustle but because of his online presence being refined, coupled with his amazing talent, He was approached by a guy he worked with when he first started in the trade to be Student Outreach Coordinator for the American Welding Academy and accepted. There was so much blood, sweat and tears to get to this point but this was the reason I reached out to this man to make me first logo design in a tig welded metal art that impresses the hell out of me every day that I see it. There are certain things we choose to do everyday. Some of them help us....some of them hinder us. The things that we think are helping us and making us feel good on a daily basis may actually be hindering us. The parable of the day.... WHAT YOU DO AFFECTS TOMORROW is more to help you realize that you are seeking instant gratification. The lesson of the day.... IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT YOU CHOOSE TO DO IT WILL... AFFECT TOMORROW. If you choose to sedate and not do one thing to pull your body forward today, Nothing will change today... But it sure will sometime down the road. The same goes for your fulfillment, family and finances. YOUR ACTIONS TODAY IN EACH OF THOSE AREAS DOES NOT AFFECT TODAY... BUT IT SURE AS HELL AFFECTS TOMORROW. Dr. Monique Andrews and Dr. Tamara MacIntyre started The Prana Foundation after necessity. They were asked to leave their positions doing what they thought were their dream jobs in California. Their whole life came crashing down when this happened and forced to move back to Canada. With their backs against a wall, what does a Neuroscientist and a Chiropractor do? They pulled themselves of the PIT and went to work building their dream where they now mentor young professionals to build their dreams while they get to live theirs. In today's episode we discuss the tools they used to deal with major life changes in their own lives in hopes people can learn from their experience which is very relevant in the world we live in right now with companies downsizing, restructuring, canceling projects.... Leaving the employees to pick up the pieces of these decisions on their own. These are 2 very inspiring and amazing ladies dropping tons of value, which was so fun to talk about this subject. I decided to reach out to Alaya Rain to be on the podcast since trying to navigate dating after after 17 years with the same person and have just not been able to figure things out. What we did end up talking about was what are some ways we can keep the relationships we have be it marriages or dating while living this oilfield lifestyle. There is so much value in what she discusses and has insight into especially after she lived this lifestyle having went through a divorce as well. Having gone through the other side of those experiences of divorce is why both of us are committed to people be able to NAVIGATE RELATIONSHIPS effectively so you are not served divorce papers and THRIVE while doing what you love to do in this often lonely and secluded lifestyle. We discuss how love languages are most important. Also how to create a COMMUNICATION PLAN to effectively communicate what comes up for both partners while one or both are away. Such a great conversation, aligned with the mission of Pipe Dream Solution. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Today's discussion is with the Owner and Head Coach of the Men of Iron, Dr. Ryan P. Doyle. In the Pipe Dream Solution by Men of Iron, we set TARGETS in all 4 areas every single quarter. We set them in our; FITNESS FUEL(Fulfillment) FAMILY FINANCES We are usually pretty good in the Oil and Gas space at making money when there is money to be made... BUT what about the rest of our lives. IN THIS GAME YOU CANNOT HIDE. WE WILL NOT LET YOU HIDE. We just did our Quarterly Target review Webinar a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to see discuss what Dr. Doyle is seeing in the people that are going through the program right now and what were some trends, What were some excuses, What were the biggest reasons people were either hitting their targets; Or why they were LEAVING MEAT ON THE BONE and not hitting the targets they set out. Life is a work in Progress at all times. Once you GAMIFY YOUR LIFE, YOU WILL NEVER LOOK BACK. Sit back and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
I have found that working on the road is the quickest way to let your body go in the midst of 12-16hr days, poor food choices bouncing from town to town, excuses to not work out coming from all over, and so many more excuses why we let our bodies go to hell in the pursuit of our dream of Freedom coming from the working the TRADES and OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY. 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE PIPE DREAM PODCAST. Not only do we have new theme music by the Ghost Inside... We have been spreading this message of learning to BUILD YOUR PIPE DREAM for an entire year. We have interviewed some fricken amazing individuals who have dropped some unbelievable content of HERO STORIES AND TOOLS OF RESILIENCE which is so important in the times we are currently living in. In this episode I run through my story and introduce myself as so many new people are being introduced daily to this movement and may or may not who I am or where I come from.... more importantly how I got to making a podcast based on how I burnt my life to the ground to now using these tools to build a foundation that is going to be unbreakable. I am a tradesman for life who wanted to build a life for my family but had no idea what that even meant and looking back now was a major contributing factor to the fall of my marriage. We as tradesman build extraordinary things for other people using their systems and procedures.... WHAT IF WE USED A SYSTEM TO DESIGN OUR LIFE??? Sit back and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Today's guest is a man who has put in the WORK. Jeff is a Scaffolder by trade who owns his own Scaffold Company in Lethbridge, Upper Limit Scaffolding, while working away at a facility in the Oilsands in Fort McMurray. He signed up when I first put my out my offer for online coaching clients at a time when it was it was either pack his bags in his marriage or do something about it. He chose to fight for his marriage and himself. We discuss the PIT and where he started when we started working together to where he is now. How the conversations on motorcycle trips has changed along with his relationships with both his kids and his spouse. This is a conversation that discusses the damage of working away for 12 years and not dealing/taking accountability for that decision. Jeff discusses what how the tools we work with on a daily basis combined with the ACCOUNTABILITY of daily check ins to his unit has help to transform his life in a positive way. Jeff is ALL IN and I have been waiting for this conversation for a long time. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Today's guest is someone very special to me. She was one of the first mentors that I looked to when I wanted to start selling myself online and the message we are spreading in this space of personal development in the Oil and Gas space. Not to mention her Webinar training I took of hers helped me launch a webinar in a week and actually filled the seats. Such a weird dynamic, I am not gonna lie. Nicole coming from being a high school math teacher to a Sales Coach and myself a Tradesman learning to navigate all of this to where I can effectively communicate my message but her authentic personality and the way she gets through to you is so amazing so I keep coming back. Nicole's calling came out her darkest days of unhappiness in a corporate setting where she excelled as #1 Salesperson in the United States for Aramark which is no small feat in itself but even with that massive achievement felt zero fulfillment. In taking the plunge after years of dabbling in the online coaching she now coaches Health Coaches to learn to sell themselves full time. She explains how sales are important to those who are even not running their own business as they are selling themselves on a daily basis in any industry. In the oil and gas sector, relationships are the building blocks of a career and can make or break it. This is about as RAW as I have ever seen a High School Math Teacher but man she can tell a story and imbed her message so deep, you just want to take action in whatever endeavor you are wanting to create. COVID has shown people what lack of action in their lives gives them when they rely on others to pay them. After listening to this episode, what action can you create today to move closer to your own FULFILLMENT. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
I have been excited for interviews before but not like this one. The accomplishments that Chelsey has been able to crush to date have been nothing pure inspiring and amazing in the Oil/Gas sector, pharmaceuticals and now in a new start up venture with Chiron Group. www.chirongroup.ca All of this started in the concrete industry where she learned some valuable lessons where people shortly mistaken her for the new girl on the crew when she was actually the boss as her work ethic was nothing short of determined. In this episode we discuss her first thoughts of the oil/gas industry to her first thoughts in the boardroom. We even had a chuckle of having to clean up our language and going from the field to the office can be more of struggle in more ways than one. She discusses her views that she so eloquently describes in her blog, www.the6040rule.com, to how running her business in line with her values have transformed her life in such a positive way. Operating in line with your values at home and in the boardroom has allowed her to the space to find an amazing like minded partner who supports her and the start up company she is involved with Chiron Group, I feel, is just the start of something so amazing. The reason I was so excited and nervous for this interview is Chelsey is so well connected in the oil and gas industry and the more we can share this message of how to live your PIPE DREAM better and more connected, in essence, living your life as a PURPOSE BASED BUSINESS where maybe one person can make the SHIFT IN THEIR LIFE THEY ARE LOOKING FOR. Chelsey and I absolutely love this industry and the more people we can attract and retain to this industry while living their best life....well...it is about all we can ask. Sit back and relax and listen to today's TALE FROM THE TRENCH. A short bio of Chelsey Reschke..... Chelsey is a builder—energy networks, high-performing teams, and purposeful businesses. Had a discussion with an plant operator today onsite and the discussion of retirement came up. In a matter of seconds, we are talking about his divorce and now how he needs to work till he is 80 because of the financial ruin this left him in. Should have been a good conversation topic when this came up discussing how another operator is retiring in a couple of weeks but I was wrong. What this conversation taught me is you never know what is happening inside someone's house. This man was ready to retire 10 years ago, he is now 68, but now is having to deal with the fallout of his divorce. When his ex left for a guy from high school when he was working a ton of time during a major pipeline expansion, it was not about the overtime at all but the lack of daily deposits for the entire marriage. This episode hits home on so many levels for me and I feel it will to you too. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Being a long weekend this past weekend, families were abundant in the town I am in and I was triggered by a family having breakfast one morning at the hotel. We do not get weekends off like most people. We do not get vacations like most people either. I was triggered because I was reminded of all of the vacations we never took. I was triggered because of all the memories we made when the kids were young. My ex and I were focused on making money and had the eye on the prize. It was absolute bullshit and lost out on so much. The lesson is all of this was, in the past this trigger would have absolutely ruined my day. Or my week. The lesson is what do you do to regulate these emotions. You know? The thoughts and the feelings behind your ears. Your family is waiting for you to step the FUCK UP and how are you going to do that? How are you going to regulate yourself and make the decisions you need to pull you forward and lead your family to the heights you know you should be? In the MEN OF IRON we use a couple of tools. The STACK. The PATRIOT MISSILE GAME. 2 ways for you to to turn around a story in your head and you get to reframe that story to one that suits you. One the pushes you forward. This trigger for me had nothing to do with the family. Had nothing to do with balance. I am curious if you tried one of these tools how a story like this would work out for you. Reach out to me and let's see if I can point you in the right direction and have you try out these for yourself today. Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Swimming with the kids on the weekend was so amazing. What it reminded me of was a motorcycle trip years ago where these little kids swam across this lake we we were at.... ⠀ Sounds like a good idea we thought. ⠀ We should follow them over to a rope swing. ⠀ Turns out this was a terrible idea. ⠀ The kids were able swim across no problem and I had to be picked up by a guy on a canoe because I was struggling so bad. ⠀ This feeling of helplessness was felt again swimming to a dock on the weekend with my kids. ⠀ Just like in my life, I thought I was helpless. ⠀ Couldn’t talk to my wife about things that was going on at work. ⠀ Couldn’t talk to my wife about how scared I was in life in general. ⠀ Absolutely frightening thinking about 17 years with the same person and you feel like you can’t talk about your feelings. ⠀ How helpless I felt. ⠀ Where in your life do you feel helpless, but if you just let go and communicated those feelings to explain what you are doing.... ⠀ And just tell them you don’t know what you doing and reach out for help? ⠀ How would that change your world? ⠀ Sit back and relax and listen to TODAY’S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Today could have gone one of 2 ways, I could feel guilt and shame by working away again and missing my daughter's birthday or I could take this opportunity to sit down and think of what my daughter's VALUES actually could be. Then to use these values to plan things that when I actually see her this weekend, we can go do things that actually light her on fire!! So many times we focus on the negative and we can't see out of our own little box. Yes....I'm sure she would have liked it if I was home for her birthday and obviously so would have I but this way of thinking allows both of us to get something out of our next time spent together. Where in you life can you look at the values of others and can you use that to light them on fire while you get something out of it too. I bet in your business you could have a relationship like this. Or in your marriage, for sure you can. Listen....it sucks missing these types of events but changing your mindset around it doesn't have to ruin your day and you can plan to make the next day even better. This whole thing is about what can you do to make your life better and in doing that you will have space to help make it possible for someone else's day to be that you care about just a little bit better. I challenge you to write down one area in your life where if you applied someone elses values in planning how you interected with them, could you have a better relationship? The next step is to follow through with that one thing today. Sit back and listen TODAY'S TALE FROM THE TRENCH.
Officially back to work. WTF does that mean now?? I had my days organized down to a T when I was at home during all of the COVID crap. Now I have no rhythm, no flow. What that meant this week is when I reached into my hockey bag full of clothes expecting to pull out another pair of underwear, I was met with nothing. I knew for the past 3 days that I was running low but did I do anything about it! Absolutely NOT!! Just like in my marriage when I went to take a WITHDRAWAL out for the last time and there was nothing left. Where in your life are looking to take a deposit and there is just nothing left? It's not always your bank account. If you considered that planning your week in all areas of your life, can you find there is actually something to take out when you go to make that WITHDRAWAL. We call this, the GENERAL'S TENT. It is a weaponized tool that helps you gain clarity for your week. Basically, what is working and what is not. When you get to the end of the week, report back to yourself with these findings. In this game and using this tool, you are constantly moving forward. Never backwards. And the next time you go take out a pair of underwear from you bag or drawer, there will always be a shiny pair waiting for you. As always, please, LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE. THIS MEETING IS BORING!!!!!!! How many times have that been said for a mandatory safety meeting or a meeting of the minds in an IVORY TOWER somewhere? How many times have you walked into a meeting only to not hear a word the presenter says because you feel you already know what they are going to say but feel you have heard the message a million times? This was a major problem in a physical meeting and now in a world of virtual meetings with people with their videos turned off completing another task or surfing instagram and Tik Tok, getting your message out to who it needs to go takes some serious commitment and skills. This Man, ROBERTO MONACO, is not only the go to guy for learning from to be a master presenter like some of the GREATS HE COACHES but in general to FIRE YOU UP to want to spread your message in whatever way that is to get the desired outcome. Roberto went from owning a $1500 car to eventually coaching every one of Tony Robbins speakers while being a speaker himself for the man himself. The ENERGY that Roberto has can light up any room and in this episode he discusses some of his methods and methodologies to help with your next meeting or conference call. Today we introduce Dr. Ryan P. Doyle. Dr. Ryan is a WARRIOR trained coach, Chiropractor and owner of MEN/WOMEN OF IRON. We discuss his journey from being home every night, to almost burning his life down training and competing in triathlons, while building a practice. We lived together 20 years ago and he went from having to crawl home to his parents after we had too much of a good time and he recognized he needed to make a drastic change to get the life he wanted, only to build it up to try to tear it all down. This is where his PASSION comes from to help business parents live the life they desire with the teachings of his own life and over 15 years of studying psychology/human behavior with some of the greats. All of this has been brought into the FR33DOM FORMULA as the tools he has developed, from what works for him and how it is applied to the MEN AND WOMEN OF IRON who recognize they are crushing it at life and want more; or the person who sees they are in the PIT and wants a way out to get what they actually want in life. I am proud to interview a friend, mentor and now be coaching underneath Dr. Ryan in the same area that saved my life. He is conducting a webinar July 3rd to reset our quarterly targets and if anyone is interested in please message me @AwakenedTradesman on instagram and I will get you a link or just have more questions on what coaching we provide.
