The legendary English record producer, John Fryer returns on the show and this time with the founder of COP International, Christian Petke. John Fryer started his musical career working at Blackwing Studios in South London in the late 70s where he worked with some of the most prestigious indie labels at the time such as 4AD, Mute, Beggars Banquet, Rough Trade and more. Best known for the dream-pop music collective, This Mortal Coil, along with 4AD founder Ivo Watts-Russell, Fryer helped developed the pioneering ethereal and ambient sound of 4AD. Even after 4AD, Fryer's production credits extended decades working with renowned musicians and producing, engineering and mixing some of the biggest names and some of the most notable albums by Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Cocteau Twins, Yazoo, Love and Rockets, just to name a few. He launched his musical project called Black Needle Noise (BNN) in 2016 where he continues in the spirit of collaboration with various musicians. Recently BNN toured with bandmates Anjela Piccard, Betty X and Sean Haezebrouck. https://www.blackneedlenoise.comChristian Petke founded COP International in 1991 in San Francisco/Frankfurt to give a home to the emerging West Coast Industrial/Coldwave scenes. Within 6 months, COP INT created their German counterpart label 23Frankfurt (Trance, Techno, Chill, House) The year 2021 marks the COP International's 30th Anniversary with ambitious plans for its expanding roster of artists such as Azam Ali, Rohn-Lederman, Steven Archer, Chiasm, GW Childs IV, Stabbing Westward, Suicide Queen, Johnny Tupolev, BlackCarBurning, FGFC820, Phantom Vision, NolongerHuman, Life Cried, Coldkill, Tactical Sekt, Sick Jokes, Dark Drive Clinic, Black Needle Noise, Vaselyne and Deathline International, which Petke founded (Aka Count Zero). The label reached a turning point in 2019, teaming up with John Fryer to form a production company under the COP International umbrella. Mike Petke, former manager for Real Salt Lake, was fired after it was determined that he used a word which MLS considers a slur towards referees after a match against Tigres in the Leagues Cup. He was initially suspended for two weeks and ordered to undergo anger management. That suspension was later upgraded to a full termination after Dell Loy Hansen, the owner of Real Salt Lake, was caught on tape discussing the incident, having revealed he was still considering firing Petke, even though the manager was serving his agreed upon suspension. Petke then filed a lawsuit against the team, alleging breach of contract among other causes of action. I discuss the case with Matt Montgomery of RSL Soapbox, who initially uncovered the Hansen conversation, which is believed to have initiated the about face which led to Petke's ultimate demise. I then briefly review the causes of action in the lawsuit and give some initial thoughts on where this could be headed. Twitter: @turneresq Learn more about your ad choices. They've only been and gone and done it. Vancouver Whitecaps won a match! Okay, so it wasn't pretty and it was against a shambles of a team, but a win is a win is a win and right now any small victories they can get should be grabbed with both hands. We look at the main talking points coming out of the victory over FC Cincinnati and the big news in Whitecapsland and throughout MLS this week. From transfers to games to suspensions and failed drug tests, there's been a lot to chat about. Keeping with Canadian club football, we chat with Cavalry FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon about their league season so far, what's made them the class of the CPL, and the need to keep it going to the championship game. Plus we look at what the future of club football in BC may look like. We also delve into the world of football board games as we chat with Marty Neill, one of the men behind the reboot of the classic board/computer game hybrid Football Fortunes, and we reveal our plans for AFTN's new video channel. All this plus Wavelength, BC Soccerweb headlines, and fun food segments with Max Crepeau, Felipe Martins, and Scott Sutter. This show has strong language throughout and humour that may offend.
