Episode 314 is here, but it's another sluggish performance for LAFC. A player returns, a player gets hurt, and opportunities are missed at home in our clash with RSL. Things started out great at BMO, with Steven Beitashour leading the falcon flight as Kike Olivera was gifted an early goal from Zac MacMath. But just minutes later, Timothy Tillman goes down with a hamstring injury, and the Black and Gold did not look the same. A fluke goal off a set piece leveled things for RSL before halftime, and that was all the scoring for the night. Both sides missed a few opportunities, none more inviting than Mateusz Bogusz's in the 79', and the points were split. LAFC gets set to take on Seattle at Lumen in just a few days, and then it's on to Leagues Cup!Enjoy 314!

It's no Lazy Sunday for the Defenders, as they wake up early Sunday morning to give you all the LAFC news, notes, banter, and a recap of the blizzard that hit Sandy, Utah by the name of Andres Gomez. LAFC gets TKO'd by Salt Lake, 3-0, amid a blustery, winter storm. First, the match was delayed 2 hours because of weather. Then, just 3 minutes in, lightning halted the festivities for nearly another hour. But upon restart, the match was essentially over at the half, as Andres Gomez's brace, Chicho's goal and snow angel, and Zac MacMath's MacMastery in net did in LAFC. A solid second half by LAFC wasn't enough, but there were bright spots. Kike Olivera looked good throughout, another post by Denis Bouanga, and the LAFC debuts of both David Martinez and Tomas Angel helped to soften the sting of this defeat. The orange ball is a harbinger of doom, but we hope this episode of Defenders of the Banc gives you a little comfort after the awful loss! Enjoy Episode 290!

The MF crew breakdown the MLS Opening Night match between Inter Miami and Real Salt Lake. Lionel Messi doesn't find the back of the net but does deliver two assists in the 2-0 win. Real looked the more dangerous side in the second half as Inter started to tire but it wasn't enough to get on the score sheet. Suarez was denied a debut goal by Zac MacMath.
Just one episode away from a nice milestone, Filly and Scarf chat about one of our better performances of the season, a 3-0 pummeling of RSL in Sandy, Utah. It's Episode 249, and on this episode, we break down the match, and touch on all the LAFC news and notes of the past week. LAFC started out hot, with an early goal, as Filly predicted. Mahala's 9th minute banger gave the Black and Gold a lead they would never relinquish. In the 15', however, some consternation for LAFC, as Kellyn goes down hurt and has to come off. Both LAFC's defense and Carlos Vela's ankle bent a bit over the next 30 minutes, but nothing too severe on either side. And in the 35', a rocket from Bouanga off the easiest assist Carlos will ever have doubles the lead and puts the boys up 2-0 at the half, just as Scarf predicted! The second half was... boring. With LAFC content to possess and RSL doing little to counter or press for the first 15-20 minutes, the match slogged through syrup. A goal-saving clearance by Timothy Tillman on an Olimpico attempt was about all there was to talk about other than the insertion of Anderson Julio. But Julio would make his presence felt, literally and figuratively, colliding cleanly with John McCarthy in the 68'. McCarthy would stay down for a bit, holding his shoulder, but the stalwart keeper would remain in the match. LAFC closed things out late, as Denis earned a penalty and allowed Mateusz Bogusz to open his account with a boomer of a kick low and hard to the right and past Zac MacMath. LAFC would lead, 3-0, and, albeit slightly battered, would come away with a comfortable win amidst a dominating second half. We'll have to see how Kellyn, McCarthy, Hollingshead, and Carlos are feeling, as a match with lowly-but-finding form SKC looms in just 4 days, but for now, it's three tough points on the road! Episode 250 is also looming, but, for now, enjoy the win, and the new episode!

LAFC takes the show on the road as the Black and Gold take on Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto. Filly and Scarf cover everything that went down in Salt Lake and so much more here on Episode 207!As LAFC heads to the All-Star break, there was one more foe to vanquish before a little break, the cobalt-and-claret clad club from Salt Lake. On paper, it was a bit of a mismatch: No Damir Kreilach, no Bobby Wood, and no recently-acquired Danny Musovski, all out with injury. Recent acquisitions Bryan Oviedo and Braian Ojeda have not yet joined the squad, and the club just jettisoned David Ochoa to the nation's capital. Meanwhile, Gareth Bale, Brian Rodriguez, Latif Blessing, Mamadou Fall, Ryan Hollingshead, and the two Sebastians, Mendez and Ibeagha, we all NOT starting for an uber-talented LAFC squad that is still waiting on the arrival of their newest shiny toy, designated player Denis Bouanga. Would the matchup play out as lopsided as it looked on paper? Yes.LAFC wasted no time getting on the scoresheet as Chicho Arango puts away a Vela free kick with a stunning back-heel goal. RSL equalized just three minutes later off a goal from Cordova, but LAFC got right back out in front when Kellyn Acosta connected on a banger from outside the box. The effort by Mahala to keep that play alive allowed LAFC to enter the half on top.RSL started out the second half on the front foot, pushing LAFC's backline and controlling much of the possession. Not much got through, but RSL definitely pushed the pace out of the locker room. After a near miss in the 50', when Ilie had to clear one off the back line, LAFC grabbed control of the game because of another great play by Mahala. After beating his man 1v1, a perfect pass across the mouth of the goal found an open Chicho for a 3-1 lead, giving Arango 11 on the season. Just when you thought you had seen everything, Italian superstar Giorgio Chiellini tried his hand(s) at volleyball in the 69th minute, earning himself a yellow card and a chat with the AVP. Just when you thought it was safe to grab a snack or a drink, Gareth Bale provides another moment of brilliance, running around 2 defenders on his way into the box and drilling one past Zac MacMath for the fourth goal of the match. The team really was the star; it was the team in Black and Gold. LAFC remain on their pace to break more records and win their first cup. Also on this episode, Scarf has a crazy idea: replace the three LAFC All-Stars with three different LAFC players! Filly has a little trouble with Franco Escobar's first name while the boys both chat about the other leagues beginning their seasons. It's a fun one here on 207!

This week we get you current on the Rapids disappointing draw in Vancouver last Saturday. How did they squander a two goal lead at BC Place? The biggest positive we took away, Zac MacMath ate some crow after spouting off to MLS about the match. Next we address a rumor, or rumour, that Newcastle United is actually in talks with Anthony Hudson to replace outgoing manager, Rafael Benitez. We advise the club to barricade the gates and shoot flaming arrows wildly into the night in an attempt to keep Hudson as far away from this beloved and historic beer, er, um, club as possible. Finally, we look ahead to the ultimate test for the Pids, this Friday night's home match with league dominating LAFC.
