In this episode of The Final Whistle, we sit down with Head Coach Darren Sawatzky to unpack a rollercoaster stretch for the Richmond Kickers. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Barcelona has not had historical success against Inter or against any Italian clubs for that matter, but they've got to find a way to win today at the San Siro to advance to the Champions League final. After the 3-3 draw last week in Spain, Barca could get Robert Lewandowski back on the bench while Inter might see Benjamin Pavard and Lautaro Martinez back in their group. With only 5 wins all-time in 24 matches in Italy in European competition, and only 1 win in 6 games against Inter in Milan, the odds are stacked against Barcelona today. Simone Inzaghi said he will add to those stacked odds by doubling on Lamine Yamal. Dani Olmo said that Yamal has handled that well and it will lead to Barcelona having a free man so stay tuned. Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Round of 32 starts tonight with 16 MLS teams entering the tournament. Yes, we want all of them in the tournament again and we want the roster rules to be expanded to make that a comfortable process. Please get it done for next year. Interesting matchups tonight include DC hosting Charleston in the Coffee Pot Cup (DC players smashed coffee pots in the locker room in Charleston when they were knocked out of the tournament in 1999), Chattanooga Red Wolves travel to Nashville, while Charlotte travels to Cary to face North Carolina FC. Reportedly, an agreement for Carlo Ancelotti to leave Real Madrid has been reached. Brazil says that they want to name their new coach by next week at the latest, while Madrid wants to see if they can get Xabi Alonso in place before the Club World Cup. You know, your usual telenovela continues in Spain. Also, Madrid wants to get Trent Alexander-Arnold in place before the Club World Cup and might be willing to pay Liverpool to get his transfer done ahead of the tournament rather than when his contract ends in June. Still waiting on news as of press time about the CAS ruling on Club Leon and the Club World Cup spot, that should be announced today so we will know who will face Chelsea on June 16 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Upset last night in the Georgia high school playoffs as previously unbeaten Brookwood were knocked out in the girls quarterfinals by Buford 2-1. Johnson of Gainesville had to go back to Calhoun to finish their Round of 16 boys match that was suspended Friday night due to weather, they lost their lead but came back to win 2-1. Now after a 3.5 hour trip back and forth from Gainesville, they have to play against tonight in the quarterfinals. We'll update everything from around the state tonight after the Dalton-St. Pius match. Atlanta Soccer Tonight is live at 11pm on 92.9 The Game and the Audacy app. No Espresso tomorrow morning, we'll be back live on Thursday.

Collin Martin has hit two USL milestones this season - 150 games and more than 10,000 minutes played. In his own words, he's a "steady" midfield performer... yet the path he took was very uncertain back in 2018 when he came out publicly as gay. In this episode, Collin joins host Jon Holmes for a chat at a time when he and his North Carolina FC teammates are bidding to seal a spot in the USL Championship playoffs. Beyond that topic, however, this is a wide-ranging and timeless conversation in which he looks back at his soccer journey so far, discusses his off-field cultural passions, and explains how he's making an impact by sharing his story creatively and purposefully. Collin also talks about his relationship with boyfriend Zach, his hopes for the FIFA 2026 World Cup and Pride Houses at the tournament, and the importance of taking a clear stand against LGBTQ+-phobia. For all of the new forward signings, for the week off from competitive play, it was too little too late for Rising in the attacking department in tonight's match. Through the 85th minute, Rising sat at 1 shot on target and 0.09 xG. While flashes of Jearl Margaritha coupled well with needed proactivity from Rocco Rios Novo and Pape Mar Boye, Rising looks like a club in need of solutions and without the answers. How can we discern what God's calling is for our lives? For all of us that are born again believers, we all have a call to proclaim the Gospel to the nations and show Christ's love to everyone we come in contact with. But there's also the other callings that we have in our lives, such as being an athlete, what job you're going to do, who you're going to marry, and so many other things that God calls us into. But that big call that we have as believers never changes. For Rafa Mentzingen, he heard a call from God to come to the US from Brazil in order to chase his dream of being a professional soccer (or football) player. Now, as someone who is actually living out that dream with North Carolina FC of the USL League One, Rafa is showing Christ through how he plays on the soccer field. Today we get to talk with Rafa about his story and how he understood God's calling to come to the US to pursue this dream. Even through some really challenging times, he never questioned what God had in store for him. Listen as we discuss: Feeling Christ's presence while playingThe hardest part of coming to the US from BrazilWinning the USL League One Final after years of determinationHow athletes can understand what Christ is calling them toStaying in the present and not worrying about tomorrowAdvice for young players that want to pursue their dreams of playing professionallyNEW MERCH IS NOW AVAILABLE!! Then at 10' we have a Day in Gay that brings some welcome news from across the country, an update on the tragic death of Nex Benedict, a big result for Jakub Jankto, and then queerness representing at the inaugural women's CONCACAF Gold Cup Final. Then at 18' we welcome Collin (Insta @cm7md and on Twitter/X @martcw12). He shares about his big coming out in 2018 while at Minnesota United, making him the only openly gay active men's footballer at the time, and also offers his thoughts on why more players aren't out and what it will take for a more LGBTQ+ supportive environment in the beautiful game. Oh, and you won't want to miss his answers to our two most important questions for all our guests. Thank you so much to Collin for joining LGBT FC.Have a gay day!

It's an episode for the history books! For the first time the whole crew is here, with both Kyle and Dillon joining me on the pod! Not only do we tackle LSC's recent results, but we dig into the new tactics and lineups we've seen as we near the end of the season. We also make a case for which players we hope to see more of this, and next, season that maybe haven't had as many chances to shine, but are brimming with potential. Let's not forget our (possibly spicy) predictions for LSC's final home match of the season against the current league leaders, North Carolina FC! Get in here and give it a listen!
-United hosted Lyon (Ligue One) in Edinburgh and beat them 1-0 in a club friendly. The Red Devils will head to the US now as part of the Premier League Tour with 5 other clubs. -One of those, Chelsea, is in Chapel Hill tonight to take on Wrexham. I’d say that Wrexham is the defacto home side, but Chelsea has a unique relationship with youth leagues in North Carolina and I kind of feel like they’re going to get the majority of the supporters. -Women’s World Cup starts in the middle of the night tonight with the US women playing on Friday night at 9 pm (no clue what time or day it will be in Auckland) against Vietnam. -North Carolina FC will host Sunderland from the EFL Championship (Spent about a decade in the PL before being relegated in consecutive years down to League One, but two years ago bumped back up and last season reached the promotion playoffs so this should be fun. Sunderland has only been playing football since 1890… -And, it’s Lionel Messi week…. Not sure if we’re about to see an uptick in offensive linemen tweeting about how disrespected they are as a group, but Dallas’ Zach martin is considering a hold out because he feels like he’s underpaid. -$11 million cap hit this year and his $14 m annual value is 8th among guards in the league….former BC OG Chris Lidstrom is first at $21…Quentin Nelson from Indy is second at $20m Everything yesterday seemed to be about Saquon Barkley and his situation with the Giants. -didn’t sign for $10m -Wants long term deal and wants to be in NJ -In addition, there is another factor and this this is why so many running backs have been upset about this… Not that this is just about the NFL’s New Jersey teams, but there’s a reason why the NFL wanted the Jets on Hard Knocks…. -Incidentally, the Jets will not make this easy. They’ve said that they will not show players being cut because it’s inhumane! -We all know why the Jets are the fascination….Aaron Rodgers….Super Bowl or Bust???? Martin Slumber of the R&A is not ruling out accepting investments from the PIF in the future…
