This week on The Coaching Journey Podcast we continue our discussion on coaching and financial literacy. Last week our episode focused on setting the foundations for your financial success, and this week we look at "what's next." 401K...IRA...Roth IRA...SEP IRA, the word jumble can be confusing to many. We discuss your potential options when preparing for retirement, and things to look out for as you continue on your journey towards financial literacy! An important discussion that many coaches, especially younger coaches, should start to think about. Oftentimes coaches go on courses to learn the nuances of technical development, tactics, psycho-social development and much more. In a nontraditional job like coaching, however, what often gets ignored is financial literacy. Given the current crisis that the majority of the world finds itself in currently, I thought this would be as good a time as any to talk about my journey going from "get a new car on that salary" financially illiterate to a much better path today and how anyone can get started! For some, it may just be common sense. It may be what you've been doing already. For others, it may be some needed information that I have found many coaches, especially those starting off in the profession, don't receive yet desperately need. This week on The Coaching Journey Podcast I explore a topic that has been circling my own thoughts recently. As I transition into a new coaching role, I have been wondering how often coaches think of "the next opportunity" and miss out on the present one. How are we finding ways to continually develop ourselves in our roles without always looking for "the next challenge." I share my thoughts in the episode. This will be our last episode before we begin our summer break. We will not have any new episodes as we take a short hiatus, and after the break we will have some excellent interviews and discussions coming your way. Stay tuned! With the US Women's National Team having just won their second World Cup in a row, and appearing in 3 finals in a row, today's podcast might seem weird. In fact, over the last few World Cup cycles, I have been wondering if the results we see are happening while stagnation or decline is underway. As coaches, how are we honestly assessing the results while analyzing the overall process? Are we setting ourselves up for success through continual improvement, or are we resting on past successes while others start to bridge the gap? This week, with the Women's World Cup underway and the United States Women's National Team about to play their first game, I have found myself thinking of Tony DiCicco and the conversation I was lucky enough to have with him, as well as his contribution to the game as a coach and coach-educator. I had the privilege of meeting Tony at a coaching course with what was then the NSCAA, now United Soccer Coaches, and a little while later I was surprised when I found Tony's contact information in the subscriber list of The Coaching Journey's blog. I quickly sent him a message and after a bit of back and forth, we got on the phone and recorded a conversation. Tony's legacy will never disappear from the game, or from the countless players and coaches he has impacted however big or small. Our conversation, although several years old as of today's release, is still full of valuable and timely pieces of wisdom which is another testament to Tony. Enjoy the discussion, enjoy just a sliver of wisdom from Tony, and as you watch this year's World Cup, take a moment and think of those who have helped pave the way for today's players and coaches. This week the Coaching Journey is joined by Twitter's own @soccrcoachprobs and a panel of her friends to speak about the rampant problems female coaches have in the world of soccer. @soccrcoachprobs joined Twitter in 2011 about three months after her players introduced her to the witty world of @soccergirlprobs. Anonymity has been an outlet for many personalities on the internet and for @soccrcoachprobs this is no exception as she tweets about a wide spectrum of problems from crazy helicopter parents and bad referees to difficult players and the pressure to win. In today's podcast, we will discuss the topic of sexism as seen through the eyes of a female coach. She and her friends cover a wide demographic spectrum in their 20s, 30s and 40s and cover the categories of both youth coaches and college coaches, married and single, gay and straight, kids and no kids.
