A former National Player of the Year at the University of North Carolina and two-time NCAA Women's College Cup champion, Yael Averbuch went on to have a 16-year professional soccer career, including significant time with the US Women's National Team. Averbuch took her leadership on the pitch and in the locker room to the board room where she played an instrumental role in the creation of the NWSLPA in 2017, serving as Executive Director until 2020. Today, Averbuch is CEO and founder of Techne Futbol, a soccer training app she launched in 2016. Always looking to incorporate new skills and techniques in the development of her own game, Averbuch found herself doing small group and individual training. Looking to expand those efforts and reach more players, Averbuch was naturally pulled into the creation of training videos on YouTube and a weekly email she sends out every Sunday featuring a new training drill. This evolution from player to teacher laid the foundation for what is now Techne Futbol; a system that helps players get better. In today's podcast, I interview the technical soccer goddess, Yael Averbuch. I first knew of Yael from afar, as I watched her YouTube videos that she posted of her dribbling and juggling drills. And I was like ‘damnnnn this girl is a hard ass worker and she's got silky smooth touches that make me feel things.' We recently got to know each other through a mutual friend and we bonded over the fact that we are both, what I like to call, “semi psycho obsessive human beings.” Or fully psycho, depending on who you're talking to. People who are obsessive about their dreams are my kind of people. If you're one of those people, I know this episode will resonate. Come join the club. Yael won two NCAA college cups with the North Carolina Tarheels. She has won three championships during her pro career with Sky Blue FC, Western New York flash, and FC Kansas City. She's also played overseas in Russia, Sweden, and Cyprus. Yael has played for US at at every level of the youth national teams and represented the full team from 2007 to 2013. In 2018, Yael was forced to step away from playing due to ulcerative colitis. Despite not currently being on the pitch, she is still heavily involved in the game. She is the executive director of the NWSL Players Association. She is also the founder of Techne Futbol, a soccer training app that provides personal training for soccer players. I highly recommend checking the app out…like I said her touches make me feel things. In our conversation, Yael talks about: her addiction to being productive how positive things done in excess, can go to far why she enjoys not being good at things her process of mastery the one thing she would do differently, if she could go back and redo her national team career again the intimate details of her battle with ulcerative colitis and what this illness has taught her about herself And more. Yael Averbuch, originally from Montclair, New Jersey, is a Center Defender, currently playing for the Seattle Reign FC in the NWSL. Yael was selected in the first round (4th overall) by the Sky Blue FC out of the University of North Carolina (where she set a record of starting 105 games). After a stint with Sky Blue, she decided to move to Sweden, where she played in the UEFA Women's Champions League with Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC. Yael has also played for the US Women's Team at every level. Besides all of her fantastic accomplishments, I brought her on the Podcast because of how hard she works and how much she truly loves the game! She also just released her new app on the iTunes App Store, called "Techne Futbol," where you can download it, and do a 1 week trial. Within the app, she helps you with your individual technical training. An app I highly recommend, especially for young players. I was introduced to Yael by our previous guest, Joanna Lohman. And I am so happy we were able to connect. Yael is a professional soccer player, about to enter her 10th season as a pro. She's played all around the U.S. and the world and enjoys sharing her journey through the sport as well as encouraging young players to set goals to own their personal development. Yael also played college soccer at University of North Carolina, which is one of the most storied NCAA teams in the country. Yael will talk about her experience at UNC and how it impacted her development as a player. She recently launched Techne Futbol, a training app to help players sharpen their individual skills. Yael is a deep thinker who has used hard work to fulfill her potential. Although I don't think she would ever say that she has fulfilled her potential as she is always focused on constant improvement. That mindset has helped her get to where she is today. You can learn more about her at www.yaelaverbuch.com and Techne Futbol at www.technefutbol.com. You can also check her out on social media: Personal - Twitter: @Yael_Averbuch Instagram: @yaelaverbuch Facebook: facebook.com/yaelaverbuch Business - Twitter: @TechneFutbol Instagram: @TechneFutbol Facebook: facebook.com/technefutbol Thanks to Yael for coming on the podcast and thanks to all of you for listening in 2017! -Brian

On May 15, 2017, the UNC alumna helped coordinate the founding of the NWSL Players Association. The PA will cover all non-allocated players, as well as amateur players with NWSL affiliate teams. Averbuch joins Beyond the Game to talk through the timeline of the announcement, and the next steps of the NWSLPA. The mission of the NWSLPA reads as follows: “We, the Non-Allocated Players of NWSL, vow to build on the opportunity that has been afforded to us, as well as work to achieve those goals that have not yet been attained. We honor the vision and progress of those who came before us...Pledge to work with the League and Allocated Players to advance continued improvements in women's soccer...Commit ourselves to doing all in our power for the betterment of our members so that we may best contribute to the common goal: a world-class product on the field, and to be role models and inspire the next generation off the field.” Show Notes: YaelAverbuch.com On the Road With F.C. Ep.43 Yael Averbuch is one of the most decorated soccer players to ever graduate from Anson Dorrance's UNC Tarheel program. She holds multiple school records and at one time had the record in the NCAA for the fastest goal where she scored in 4 seconds directly from kick-off. Not only that, Yael has featured 26 times for the highly acclaimed United States Women's National Soccer Team. Some would say she has done it all. To Yael, however, it is not enough. In her new endeavor, Techne, she has found an avenue to continue her impressively tenatious level of compeition - with herself. _______________________________________________ Yael Averbuch - Guest - Web - http://www.yaelaverbuch.com - Twitter - https://twitter.com/yael_averbuch - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/yaelaverbuch/?hl=en - Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/YaelAverbuch/ - Techne - https://app.technefutbol.com ___________________________________________ Creating Space Team: Wes Knight - Host - Web: www.CreatingSpaceMovement.com - Insta: www.instagram.com/wesleytknight/ - Twitter: https://twitter.com/WesleyTKnight - Snapchat: www.snapchat.com/add/wesknight - Facebook: www.facebook.com/wes.knight/ Charita Johnson - Exec.
