Fibular fractures are often overlooked as ankle sprains. _People can go days, or even weeks walking around on these fractures as the fibula only controls 1/8-1/10th of your body weight. _During this episode we talk about this injury, outline a few clinical things I've learned and tell some stories along the way. _Have you broken your fibula?
In today's episode, I discuss a new paper by Tom Michaud on some updated thoughts and research regarding tendon pain. From exercises and load selection, to time frames and tempo, there is some great new ideas in this in this episode. Whether you suffer from tendon pain yourself or are a clinician helping others, there something for everyone in this episode. Enjoy ! A note regarding part of the episode: I mention performing isometrics in a lengthening position vs. Neutral. I failed to mention its importance in the research. In Michaud's paper he cites the following, “research by Kubo and others confirm that prolonged isometric contractions, especially when performed with the tendon in a lengthened position, can improve tendon compliance by as much as 50%.” Simply put, isometrics at length help produces tendon stiffness, reduce pain and improve fluid dynamics. **Episode Resources **Michaud, T. On today's episode I had the pleasure of chatting with Dr. Katie Mitchell. Katie is an Athletic Therapist, Physiotherapist & Post-doctorate fellow at the University of Toronto. She is also the lead therapist for the Canadian Women's Para Ice Hockey team. During this conversation we discussed various topics surrounding concussion. From how concussions progress, to limitations of research, as well as the topic of dual tasking, a focus of her research. We also discussed Katie's career in Para sport and some of the unique challenges when considering concussions in this population. Along the way Katie provides great insight and advice, into the navigating career decisions when you may feel stuck.

I talk about the relevant research and the most commonly suffered from abdominal symptom being constipation. This is a topic that isn't discussed enough and very common in the general population. Many people do not know that manual therapy can serve as part of symptom management. Furthermore, while certain areas of manual therapy struggle to have research to measure outcomes, abdominal massage seems to be one with plenty of research published on the topic. We also discuss the importance of diagnosis and evaluation of abdominal pain, when abdominal massage should not be used, as well as common life style and behaviour modifications that are often suggested as a management tool to improve symptoms. During this episode I had the pleasure of chatting with Matt Banks. Matt is Massage Therapist and coach practicing in Halifax, Nov Scotia in Canada. Matt is a long time friend and colleague.
